On 27 November 2018 I took two watches to this shop for repair. One, a vintage Bell & Ross Space 3 GMT Titanium with a mechanical movement that lost time and had a defective quick date adjustment T-Crown system. The other, a vintage Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T Titanium watch that functions perfectly but required a new sapphire crystal and inner bezel to replace the cloudy mineral glass crystal and worn bezel. Angel, the proprietor, assured me he was familiar with the B&R Valjoux 7750 movement as well as the Citizen. Time passed. Hearing nothing from him, I inquired of the status of the repairs. He informed me that for the B&R he was awaiting a repair part from Switzerland and was waiting for Citizen to give him the price for the crystal and bezel. A week later he still hadn't heard from Citizen, so I picked it up with the intention of sending it myself to the Citizen factory repair center in Torrance CA. In January, Angel finally told me the B&R was ready to pick up. It was only then that I learned he hadn't repaired it himself, but had given it to another person he identified as his cousin, who presented it to me. He said the movement was rusted (not true) and needed a thorough cleaning and overhaul but now kept perfect time. I attempted to change the date with the quick date adjustment feature. It hadn't been repaired. I asked why and the cousin told me Angel hadn't told him it was defective, but I still owed $312 for the overhaul. I refused the watch and told Angel himself to repair it properly or otherwise send it to the B&R repair facility in Miami at his expense. Three days later, Angel telephoned me to tell me it was now fully repaired. And indeed the watch appeared to function properly. Angel told me he had written the repair date inside the case and warranted the repair for six months. My confidence restored, and since I hadn't had the opportunity to send my Citizen for repair, I gave it back to him with specific instructions to send it to the Citizen repair facility and I would pay him a convenience fee for sending it out. And I waited. And waited. When I called him, he said he hadn't heard from the repair center yet, but not to worry. The following week I called and he told me he had finally called the repair center and learned they hadn't received the watch, but don't worry, this happens sometimes and he's done business with them in the past. I asked him if he had sent it insured. He replied all watches that he sends out are insured for $500.00, to which I replied it would cost more than $1000.00 to replace it. I asked him when he had telephoned them. He replied he had called them the day before and would call them again tomorrow. I told him to call them today, as they were still open. He refused, stating he would call them again tomorrow, not today, but not to worry, everything would be fine. My suspicion aroused, I contacted the repair center myself. They acknowledged they had received nothing from Carrara Jewelers and had no record of ever doing business with them. I asked my wife to accompany me to the shop, where I asked Angel if he has a tracking number. He said yes, of course. I asked him for it so I could determine where it went astray. He refused to give it to me. At that, I recognized he had never sent my watch to the service center. I asked him who has my watch. He refused to tell me, stating everything will be fine, just wait a few more days. I demanded that he produce the watch or a tracking number, or tell me exactly where the watch is. He refused. I told him I am going to walk out the door and if he refuses to answer before I walk out, I am contacting SAPD and filing a complaint against him, charging him with theft or fraud or both. He still refused. With my wife inside the store, I telephoned the police and upon an officer's arrival I related the situation to her. While we were talking, my wife exited the store with a handwritten note from Angel in her hand. The note stated he will have the watch for me to pick up on Thursday. This was Tuesday. The SAPD officer gave me her card with the report number and told us to contact her if he doesn't produce the watch on Thursday as promised. I had recorded this entire visit on my cell phone voice memo, from our arrival at the shop until our departure with the note. It's a matter of record. On Thursday we returned to the shop and Angel indeed had it. It had not been repaired. He offered no explanation and refused to tell me where the watch had been. I told him my wife had been prepared to let him service her mechanical Rolex and Cartier watches until this episode. This entire incident is fully documented. We always prefer to give our business to local independent shops, but that was a serious mistake with Carrera Jewelers. I'm filing a fraud complaint against them with BBB. We don't know what Angel hoped to gain with his deception, but he succeeded in losing lucrative additional business from us. read more

Quality work at a fair price. Took my Timex in for repair and it required replacement of main body. It costed a fraction of the watch value and worth it. Carrera also replaces watch batteries and the work is more reliable than the mall. Thats why my watch broke in the first place. read more

I took my Chronograph watch to this guy to have the bracelet removed only. It was an unusual type of pin so I could not do it myself. Rather than try to find out how the manufacturer installs and removes these pins he gorilla wrestled with the pins until he gouged the sides of the face 5 times, broke off all 6 of the blue sapphires on all the chronograph buttons and decorative pins, and bent the pin he was trying to remove. Worst part is he lied to me 7 times telling me to come get it the next day. Every time I went in he would ask for one more day. After giving him months to do this task, and fix his damage, he (with bad attitude) finally gave it back ruined and the band still attached. No refund of $20.00 prepay fee... of course. read more

I have taken damaged gold jewelry to Mr Carrerra twice now and have been very pleased with his work both times. The broken 14K watch band and watch that he repaired most recently for me looked brand new when I picked it up. I could not tell that it had ever been broken. He is a true artist and craftsman. Took my widows mite ring to be repaired. Angel said it would be ready in 2 Saturday's. Saturday came and went finally picked it up today January 11,2017 and all of the patina finish was polished off to the point that the letters that were on the back of the coin are not visible and the coin now has a crack in it. My ring is ruined. I would have thought a jeweler would have known not to polish the patina off of a coin. But evidently not. Also the gold that he replaced is uneven and shoddy looking. I should have known better when I saw nothing but sterling silver in all of his jewelry cases. I will never go back to Carrera jewelers EVER again. Not recommended for high quality jewelry repair. read more
