taco salad with chicken
Imran S.

we have passed by this restaurant many times but had never tried it so decided to stop by and try it. it was taco tuesday so decided to try the soft taco with cilantro and onions and added beans as well as the taco salad with chicken. the taco salad had lots and lots of chicken which was good but had minimal flavor. the tacos were good for the price / small and had decent flavors. complimentary chips and salsa were given which tasted fresh overall average tex mex food

Amazing service! Food was great, and came out pretty fast. I will be back!!! I was craving Mexican food and they delivered.

Chile Ranchero!

Let me preface it that's its 3.5 and not 4 stars due to service. At end on lunch time a few days before Christmas...sat in bar area. Server was sweet and kind...loved her but she was never around. If I have to leave the table not once but twice to find someone...ugh. But the food was delicious. I had the Carreta's special and Chile Ranchero with chicken. Chicken was thin and tasty, not too salty and perfect seasoning. The pepper wasn't too over cooked - the cheese could have been melted more. Delicious dish. Mine was yummy!! Will come back for sure when I in neighborhood. FYI- have to order chips and salsa and the chips here hot amd salsa tasty.

My go-to for Mexican. It's no frills and the quality is always consistent, no toss-ups on what you're going to get. Service is generally pretty good and friendly. Prices are on the dot and actually pretty cheap for the quality of the food you're getting. Def recommend! Their queso is always thick and tasty. Whenever we feel like splurging, we'll get the Popeye Dip (queso w/ spinach and artichokes) and fried puffy tortilla chips. Yum! We always get the grilled chicken nachos as a meal which are huge. We get the toppings on the side so that it doesn't get the chips mushy and they are always more than accommodating in hooking it up.

Cute and quiet location off the interstate. Nice size portions and the outside seating is nice. Wouldn't mine trying again.

The food was terrible. Margaritas ok. The grilled chicken salad- how do you make that bad? Serve old chicken

Did not enjoy the steak tacos. Poorly put together and tortillas broke apart and we're room temperature.

We rolled into dinner hungry...like "scan-the-menu-before-you-sit-down" hungry, and in the mood for…read moregreat Mexican food and a couple of memorable cocktails. A few years ago I had been to La Tia in Metairie, and it left a serious impression. What stuck with me most were the craft cocktails...creative, clever, and a little bit mischievous. I still remember one in particular: a Mexican-inspired cocktail with mezcal and beet juice that somehow managed to taste like summer decided to take a vacation south of the border. It was the kind of drink that makes you pause mid-sip and say, "Okay... whoever thought of this deserves a raise." Somehow the place drifted off my radar over time. But when the craving for Mexican food hit, it popped right back into my head. I was excited to bring my son and daughter-in-law since they had never been. Unfortunately... the reunion didn't exactly go as planned. Two things hit me immediately while looking over the menu. First: the craft cocktails were gone. Not "different." Not "updated." Just... gone. Replaced with the same drinks you see in every other Mexican restaurant. Second: the prices nearly made me spit out the water I hadn't even ordered yet. $6 for a Corona. $18 for a basic burrito with fries. $10 for a kids plate over chicken tenders and some fries. And not the old La Tia burritos either...the ones I remembered piled high with rich molé, bright verde sauces, and layers of flavor that made you wonder if you should be taking notes. Nope. Now we're talking about a plain flour tortilla with some ground meat inside, no sauce, and a side of what looked suspiciously like freezer-aisle French fries. For eighteen dollars. My daughter-in-law ordered the fajitas, and honestly... they were rough. Thin strips of overcooked meat that looked like they had taken a brief vacation in a plastic bag before hitting the grill...served on a plate. Lately I've gotten into the habit of pulling up Yelp photos to compare dishes from past years, and I did exactly that. I found a photo of the same fajitas from about three years ago...big, juicy steak pieces, sizzling on cast iron and full of life. What we got looked like it came from a completely different restaurant. To be fair, my shrimp tacos were actually pretty good. Nicely cooked shrimp, decent flavor, and probably the lone bright spot of the night. But overall, it felt like the La Tia I loved had quietly packed up and left the building. The elevated Mexican food? Gone. The rich sauces? Gone. The inventive cocktails that made the bar worth sitting at? Also gone. In their place: food that feels pulled from a bag... at prices that feel pulled from a luxury menu. It's a tough thing when a restaurant you once loved loses its spark. But sadly, this visit felt less like a reunion and more like running into an old friend who has completely changed--and not for the better. As much as I hate to say it, I don't see myself returning to La Tia anytime soon. Turns out the only thing that stayed spicy... was the price tag.

Decided to sit at the bar so I can get in and out quickly and have a little margarita. My server/bartender wasn't very attentive at all. I had to get his attention a few times for service because he was in his whole the whole time. I ordered a margarita that to me was okay, but it tasted much better after I asked to have a flavor added to it. I think it was hibiscus. I only got 2 tacos. The fish and shrimp. The fish was a little bland for my taste but the sauces and add ons saved it. This was an okay experience, I'm writing this place off. I plan to give them another shot and try some of their other menu items.

When we first went there, it was…read moreabsolutely incredible on all levels but then, things changed and the quality of the drinks and food went down. On our last visit the fajitas were incredibly salty and we did not even finish them. Well, THEY ARE BACK! I am very happy to say this! We went there last week and had the chicken and steak fajitas and they were incredible once again. Great flavor, well seasoned, cooked to perfection. I have one big complaint, however, and it has something to do with their supplier. In my wife's and my opinion, the shells they provide to you for the fajitas are an absolute joke. Taco Bell's shells are larger. Every other Mexican food restaurant I have gone to are larger. Really, guys, I don't want to hear about your supplier, I could not care less and really do not want excuses. Then, the bartender has the Gaul to tell us that they are designed more for pushing than making a fajita! DO NOT tell me how to eat my meal and do not come up with such a poor excuse. This place has great Margaritas. Donnie is an incredible chef putting out the best Fajitas in the city! Don't insult your restaurant, your customers, and Donnie and give your customers Fajita shells that would be better suited to little hands in a grade school cafeteria!

Once I ordered, the food and drinks came out quickly. The 'unlimited' mimosas actually cap at 5, which is fine, but the mix they use cheapens the drink, and the glasses weren't the cleanest. The birria and grits were good (about a 7/10), though I think the pre-shredded Mexican blend cheese on top took away from the dish. A traditional white cheese would have worked better. The birria tacos were tasty, though. The bathrooms could use attention as there were no paper towels, which makes me wonder what employees do after washing their hands. Overall, it was a good experience and definitely cost-efficient. With a few tweaks to the drinks and presentation, this place could easily go from a 3-star to a 4- or 5-star brunch spot. I'll be back to try the tacos and check out the unlimited margaritas.
