I heard from lots of folks that Georgia has some of the best BBQ in the country. And boy were they right! Carroll's Barbeque is located in Blueridge Mountain, Georgia... just a few miles from the cabin we were vacationing in. It's a small restaurant with a menu similar to other bbq spots. But this place stood out to me and let me tell you why. Decided to drop in one evening after a day of hiking and indulge like carnivores. Hubby went with the special of the night which was the brisket sandwich and a side of beans and deep fried okra. I ordered brisket with fries and collard greens. Our awesome waiter Anthony recommended I season my collard greens with some hot pepper sauce for a bit of pop. So I did! So happy he recommended this because this will be the way I eat my collard greens from now on. The brisket was perfectly seasoned and melt in your mouth juicy. It's amazing on its own and even better in the sandwich with all the melted cheese and peppers. This place is only opened 5 days a week with specials on certain days. We came in when they had the brisket sandwich special. So you gotta come in when they have it. And If you have Anthony as your waiter, you're in for a real treat! Very attentive and personable. Never Again. Which we have told ourselves before. Rolls and ribs were good, but brisket was awful. Asked for lean, yet received not trimmed, gristle throughout, and tough product. BBQ is too pricey to purchase from someplace that doesn't follow simple written directions. What a disappointment. read more

AND the mac & cheese is delicious with the white cheddar-type--my favorite! Large restaurant and overall fast to order as we did take out and took it home and then loved us some Carrolls BBQ! Best food we had in Blue Ridge! The meats were all tender and juicy, and the sides great. I especially loved the hot and spicy sauce - sweet but with a definite kick! Review: Carroll's Barbecue vs Bigun's We are staying in this area for 6 weeks and really wanted to spend time supporting the locals. However, like all my reviews, I strongly believe in telling both the good and bad. We had already visited Bigun's in Talking Rock, and while we were there we saw the huge billboard across the street for Carroll's so we decided to give it a shot. Ambiance. Not much to say. It's a BBQ place. It was clean, well organized, and had all the normal amenities. Service. Terrible. There was literally one person working the register and a line out the door. She was not friendly at all. In comparison when we went to Bigun's we were laughing with the cashier. This lady seemed like we were doing her a favor eating there. The only positive is they did bring out our "appetizer" to our table first and then our lunch after. Food. This is where they really fall short. For a bit, I thought how can you really screw up barbeque. Well - you can. Smoked Sausage - was more like a Hillshire farms polish Kielbasa. No comparison to Bigun's Sliced Brisket - awful. Whatever they use for the rub is not working. Unless you cut the out ring of the Brisket you literally feel like you are eating a handful of peppercorns work a teaspoon of hot sauce. Beans - Hmmm well I would say they were like as good as a can of Bush's beans. I did however enjoy the fried pickles although can you really screw up anything fried. Overall - hands down Bigun's is way better. Even if you leave up in Blue Ridge - Bigun's is worth the drive. Now I know why they put a gigantic billboard across from Bigun's. It's a high-traffic area given Bigun's amazing food. Who am I: I have traveled the world including 67 countries and 32 US states and have had the opportunity to eat at over 500 Michelin star restaurants and dined with several international chefs. We decided to spend the day at serenberry winery and were in the mood for some good bbq afterwards. We were recommended carrolls and it did not disappoint! This is an order all at once and grab a table afterwards type of place. We ordered fried pickles, cheese curds, pulled pork sandwich and ribs. For sides we got fries, coleslaw and baked beans. Was craving bbq bc I was watching it on tv while staying in morganton. This place was not too far and rated high. In a small plaza and order at the counter casual type of restaurant. I ordered the $8.50 lunch special of pulled pork, French fries (also had a choice of wings or turkey I believe), and a drink. I also ordered a side of ribs so the table could try them. Ya'll, the pork was smoked perfectly and didn't have a heavy smoke flavor, meat was juicy and fries were nice and crispy. The ribs literally fell off the bone! We found this gem via local recommendations and fellow yelper reviews. We ordered online the family meal with a full rack of ribs, 1 lb of pulled pork, 1 pint each of cole slaw and potato salad as well as the 3/3 bun and roll option as well as sides of okra and collard greens. All were well cooked but I highly recommend try one of the many sauces they offer to add more flavor. The ribs were fall off the bone, the pork was moist, and the sides tasted good. Our family of 5 had enough food for two meals. We placed the order and were given a time frame for pick up and this is the first place around here that had our order correct and ready on time. We've been here several times during our frequent trips to Blue Ridge and I have to say every time we come it gets better and better. For me to order turkey at a BBQ place says a lot. Their smoked sausage is absolutely stupendous. Sides are perfect, service is friendly and quick. After an absolutely abysmal meal Christmas Eve at a long-time favorite in downtown Blue Ridge our day after Xmas meal at Carroll's redeemed the town's restaurant scene for us. We stopped in here after a long day of tubing and hiking. We had a huge appetite and boy did this fit bill! We came as a party of 6 with 4 small children and were seated promptly within the 20 minute quoted time for a table. We were greeted quickly by a server and our food came out only minutes after being ordered. We had quite a smorgasbord between all six of us, including a full rack of ribs, pulled chicken, smoked brisket, smoked sausage, mac & cheese, fried okra, and their sampler appetizer platter (onion rings, corn nuggets and onion rings). Absolutely nothing was left. It was all so delicious. My husband commented it may be the best barbecue he's ever had and we've eaten it across many states. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area even if you had to drive a ways to get there. We finished off our dinners with dessert that we didn't have room for. Two huge Sundae skillets for only $7 each, they were a steal! We had to try both the brownie and the chocolate chip. So they said it be right out and when we got it, it was lukewarm. Decided to just eat it as is and not try to return anything back to the kitchen for fear of how it would come back. Place was packed. My wife had found this place, and took me up to Blue Ridge for my birthday this past year, and I was more than happy to let her take the wheel and trust her choices. Carroll's is located off of US-76, and the easiest landmarks to look for is being across the street from an Ingles and behind a CVS. There are also several billboards along the way to help guide you to them. They have a pretty large space, and based on the parking lot being full, I had faith that this would be a good dining experience. The interior is comfy, in that all-wood cabin look that country barbecue restaurants all seem to adopt. A big barn door separates a big party space from the rest of the restaurant, but it looks like you could easily get like, 40-50 people inside the restaurant to dine-in. I ordered a brisket combo, and my wife ordered pulled pork. Each comes with two sides, and I got collard greens and fried okra. Factoring in drinks, the both of us ate pretty generously for a little over $30. The one thing that really stood out about Carroll's was the level of spice that they bring. Normally I fancy myself as someone with a pretty decent heat tolerance, but the crust on their brisket is heavy on the black pepper, and leaves a lingering burn from eating it. I didn't mind it, but it was noticeable and memorable. Additionally, the sauces at the table, most places spicy is usually nominally more warm, usually from like vinegar, but Carroll's spicy sauce actually brought some heat. It caught me off guard, because I wasn't expecting them to actually have some real heat in their sauce. But it was good all the same. Overall, I was pleased with the experience there. I ate well, got to try somewhere new, was met with some good quality brisket that brought the heat. I'd be comfortable recommending this place to other travelers that didn't want to feel silly going to a place called Big 'Un's BBQ along the way and wanted something a little more tame and probably better. read more

My hubby and I started with an order as a starter, then I moved on to my dinner selection of the pulled chicken platter with two sides and a roll. BEWARE LARGE GROUPS Came to Carroll's with a group of 20 with reservations prior. Reservations was for 4:30 pm, we didn't leave the restaurant until 7:30... When ordering, their ordering system went down which we were sympathetic for. However when our waitress retook our orders, she forgot 10 orders. When she retook those orders she forgot 5 of the 10. You'd think after the 3rd time she could get it right, but no she brings 4 of the 5 leaving 1 person out (he eventually just took the food to go and ate it at home). When the last order came the sides were STILL wrong? We also ordered apps and other sides but after the 2nd reorder we gave up on those dishes. By the time the last person got their food the 1st group were finished eating for 45 minutes. On top of the ordering issues, once seated it took us 45 minutes to even get drinks, and most of the drink orders were wrong. We asked for bbq sauce 4 times and after not getting it we just gave up and went to another table to get the sauces. Additionally, even after we left they messed up the checks and forgot to mark one table as paid even though we just finished paying. After all of that there was no compensation offered by the wait staff. Now when the food finally came the brisket and smoked wings were dry. The ribs, potato salad, Mac and cheese, and collared greens were solid; but not worth the wait. The fried okra was essentially the same as the okra you'd get from Cracker Barrel. Overall, it was the worst service I've ever experience at a restaurant. While some of the food was good, it wasn't worth the quality of service and having to wait 3 hours for bbq that have been smoked/cooked since the morning. Most likely will not be back and if so it won't be with a group larger than 4 people. read more

Caroll's barbeque is tucked away off the main road in a small strip plaza, located on the end. Due to covid restrictions, you walk up and order, sit down and the server will bring it to you. The menu is large with tons of options from appetizers, combination plates, sides and desserts. I love options so I went with the combination. You choose 3 meats and two sides and a roll for $17. I chose smoked turkey, chicken wings and smoked sausage. My sides were collard greens and fries. For sauce I tried the hot and spicy and Georgia vinegar. The sausage was delicious as well as the smoked turkey, but the show stopper was the wings. They were perfectly cooked, so crispy! I dipped them in the hot and spicy sauce and they were perfect. The fries were good, but unfortunately the collards had no flavor so I wouldn't choose those again if I had the option. My boyfriend got the Mac and cheese and it was the best I've had in a while! With many BBQ options in Blue Ridge I recommend stopping in and giving it a try! read more

The waitress deliberately waited on us last, each time, from taking our orders, to serving us our food, to giving us our bill. She served guests that were clearly here AFTER us, every single time. She was told by another waitress the specific order of arrival, and even then, she always served us last. We were literally the last ones left in the restaurant! So, being completely honest, we tried to go to 2 other BBQ restaurants first which were both closed. So we tried this one instead. We were both VERY happy with every aspect of our visit. Friendliness (our server Chris was absolutely on top of things, though she said she was new - you wouldn't have known it). The atmosphere is as you would expect of a country BBQ place, but cleaner haha. The food was excellent. We had fried pickles (YUM!) and I had the pork quesadilla- sooo good. I wish more BBQ places would have this on the menu. Wife had the stuffed baked potato and really enjoyed it but it was way too big for her.
