I have used C & C several times over the years for shipping sculpture. But the last time I used them (or will ever use them) they shipped a mold for me that arrived in multiple pieces. Trying to get the insurance that I paid for was a nightmare. They required photos of the packaging from before it was unpacked, and then all of the packing inside it, as well as all the labeling (which they put on) They were the ones that packed it! Don't they know what they did? It was unquestionably obvious that it was totally inadequate packaging, and the UPS audit that C & C required also said so. Jeff and Ana continued to stall and evade their clear responsibility for the damage, and refuse to pay, even though I bought $2000 worth of insurance. I'm out $2300 for repairs for their substandard work. They did it on the cheap, were responsible for the damage and refuse to honor their agreement with me regarding the insurance. One would think that a packing and shipping company would know that it's not a good idea to ship a TV with styrofoam peanuts as the main source of cushioning and protection but apparently this company does not know that. I received an irreparably damaged TV due to unprotected corners being bent and split open. There was no added support to the corners, only the bubble wrap I delivered it in, some added foam sheets and peanuts that had drastically shifted during shipping, to the point where the box was misshaped due to their displacement. I turned it on and the picture was only a shattered marbled mosaic. To make it worse, the owner hit on me and I rejected his advances. The package that shipped prior to my rejection arrived in perfect condition, the package that shipped afterward (this TV) did not. Coincidence perhaps? (it is laughable that so many men mistake a woman who makes friendly conversation as a clear sign that she wants to sleep with them. Hint: it's not). This is a neat place to ship wines out on your behalf. Just be aware that the prices run a bit high but they have everything you need here, including packaging materials. For a specialized service like this (given the Puritanic history of alcohol laws in the United States), it's hard to find anything else like it. I stopped in here for the first time and was met with an overwhelming amount of rudeness and nothing but frowns. I was interrupted at my every word and condescended to like I was an idiot. Helping me was definitely not on the agenda for the lady at the front desk. I was trying to drop off a package for DHL, as I was sent here by DHL's website. The lady told me DHL might never pick up my package and so she needs my number to call me so I can come get my package. This sounded bizarre to me so I tried to get further info. Like, why would they never come and pick it up? She repeated what she already said, providing no additional info or clarification. I said I was trying to understand this because I don't live nearby to come back. She went back to reading a magazine(?) and so I walked out. I left and went to All American Mail Center down the street. They helped me ship my package, and were very professional and kind. The best packaging of framed art that we have ever seen! We took seven, large, framed images to Cartons & Crates where 18-yr-old Matt, who has been trained to pack like the pros, accepted our assignment -- to package up the art and ship it 1,000 miles to Seattle. The art arrived in two days (Thank You, UPS!) and as we unwrapped our framed works, we got the sense that Matt's packaging skills were equally as good as the artists' skills whose work we had shipped. Matt's handiwork is a thing of beauty; we have packed and shipped a lot of art in our life, but Matt's work surpassed anything we've seen before. If you have anything of value that you want shipped -- take it to Cartons & Crates and ask for Matt to wrap and ship it for you. Shipping doesn't get any better than this. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! If anything they package and ship is damaged, they will not reimburse you for the damage, even if you purchase insurance. We went to a charity silent auction while in Napa from out of town and purchased a large framed print. We used Cartons & Crates to ship it home. While it arrived very quickly, it was also destroyed. The glass was shattered and the artwork is ruined. Cartons & Crates is refusing to reimburse us for the insurance we purchased through them. We've provided photo proof of all damage. We had a rush shipment of a model for a sculpture that was cut into 5 pieces in order to qualify for UPS 2 Day Air. I was boxing them myself and wanted assistance, so we took 3 of the five to Cartons and Crates. I was assured they knew how to pack fragile objects. I doubted them enough that I dropped off rigid insulation foam to stiffen the insides of the boxes. They said they used it. I packed two as planned and dropped them off at the UPS terminal. They packed 3 and had UPS pick them up. Cartons and Crates charged us $3500 to box them, plus the 2nd day air fee of $3600. Yes, they boxed them in a few hours and charged us $1200 in labor per box. When they arrived in NYC, all 5 boxes looked fine but all 3 of the pieces shipped by C & C were broken. The two I packed were not broken. DO NOT SHIP FRAGILE UNUSUAL OBJECTS WITH CARTONS & CRATES. They have styrofoam or paper inserts for holding wine bottles, but they aren't knowledgable about vibration, overturn, internal bracing, etc. They want to blame UPS, but the packing was poorly done. And these are super nice people by the way. read more

The patriarchy runs deep here. They get two stars ONLY because they are one of few places that ship personal wine. I'm moving out of state and called ahead to see if they could ship to my new destination before I made the hour drive. I was told yes, they could ship to my new state. I was the first person in the door, which didn't seem to matter, since they helped five people (mostly men) and someone on the phone before me. When they saw where I was shipping, they can't in fact ship to that state. I said I had called ahead to confirm, to which they asked: "Did you talk to a woman?" Nope, dude, talked to a man but way to try to blame a woman, while treating the female customer in front of you like crap. Thankfully, they can ship to a neighboring state where I have family, but all the trouble could have been avoided if the people who work there actually knew their business. Long story short, I recommend going elsewhere to ship wine, unless you like getting treated poorly by old dudes who probably had to Google "patriarchy." read more

We shipped 12 bottles back to South Florida, was $70. It's an additional $7 for the shipping materials, some wineries may give you it free if you buy some bottles from them .... just ask. Not impressed with this company at all. I dropped off a piece of art on June 8th to be packaged and shipped out to WA. I was told that it would take a week to package it up as they were busy. No problem, I understood. Twelve days later when I did not get the tracking number sent to me I started to wonder. I called the company and was told that they were still running late and should expect to see it shipped later on that week. Third call I was told they were still working on it, so then I got suspicious. Called back again and was promptly put on hold, after five minutes I hung up and sent an email inquiry as to the status of the shipment, no response. Two days later I called and they told me that UPS had lost the shipment, this is after being put on hold for ten minutes and me calling on another line to get a live person. At this time I decided to drive down to the location and have a face to face since every conversation I had with someone I was getting a different story. On the way over I got a call to say that the artwork was found and it had been tucked between other shipments and that they would ship it out today. After waiting nearly twenty days and getting zero customer service I told them not to bother and I would be picking up the artwork and dropping it off to company that actually provided a service and not a headache. Shipped a package through them today via UPS, was charged $44.25 (including a box which was probably about $3.00), when asked why it was so expensive, was told because of the zone it was being sent to based on size and weight. Checked the UPS website for cost... $24.76!!! I was charged a ridiculous amount for their time, which service was slow at that. They SUCK. I had a box to ship to Canada. I went on the C&C website under "printable forms" and could not find ANY forms to print. I called them up, they said "oh no, you have to request those forms in writing by email". (Whaaat?) So I sent an email saying EXACTLY "Ihave a shipment to go to Canada. Please send me the forms so that I can fill them out before bringing the box to you this afternoon." They sent me two forms to complete, which I did. Then drove over to Napa with the box and the forms, present it to the desk and the guy says "oh we don't ship to Canada." WHY did they send me forms then??? And why don't they ship to Canada - does Customs hate them for some reason? I've a good mind to bill them for 80 miles of gas. I wish I could rate them in negative stars. read more

I'm disappointed to say I received bad service from Cartons & Crates. I stopped by over two weeks ago to ship a barrel top and wood staves for a customer of our winery. I called last week to check on the status and they said "yeah they're working on it". Two weeks later and I have no receipt or Tracking via email so this week I called for an update. The first person I spoke to laughed at me... After being placed on hold I was transferred to the non-wine packaging specialist who received the items a few weeks ago and he confirmed it had shipped (first time I had heard that) but was unable to provide a receipt saying they are unavailable for a cash sale. This confused me because I paid via Credit Card and I asked him what that meant. He told Robert Mondavi Winery has an account and we do not and that anyone without an account is just a cash sale. Very matter of fact. As their customer why I should be expected to follow their cash / credit card / account / non-account logic terminology? When I asked about a receipt he told me they do over 1000 shipments a week and it would take far too long to get me one. He then transferred me to a clerk who he said could help by looking up the customer's name. Now on the phone with the third person I gave the name and she said she could not send a receipt but could give a tracking number. I said I didn't need tracking necessarily but sure I would take it in case I needed to reference later. She then said that I would need to email her first so she could reply with it... Sorry C&C you made me jump through enough hoops for basic information. Asking more of your customer in this situation comes off as aloof at best and lazy at worst. I hope the person reading this case can provide some customer service training to their team because a simple attitude change of "I'm sorry that isn't available but I can help you in another way" would have gone a long way. Instead your team today decided to laugh at their customer, explain why their request would be too much work for our little company but is available to others (in an all too condescending tone), and passed me along to the next person providing little value. I understand information technology isn't always available at your fingertips, but a good attitude always is. Please read this C&C because I know you can do better. read more

Brought in many items to be shipped to two locations. Put everything on two carts. Super clear, one cart to one location, one cart to other. First, wrong tracking numbers emailed to me. Then one box sent to wrong location. Finally open boxes and 2 picture frames broken, one bent and other has glass broken. Not impressed at all with this company as this is what they do. This place is mostly for shipping of art and other items you may wish to ship. They do have canvas', a lot of paint, paper, charcoal and many other art supplies. Their student discount is lower than Fine Line in Sonoma and their prices are quite a bit higher than Michael's in Vallejo. Of course that was comparing brushes and basic paints, you may get what you pay for but my friend was happy with what she was able to find. They are closed Sundays. read more

We had accumulated way too many bottles of wine (10) to ship home and contemplated shipping and insuring; buying another piece of luggage, use clothing to pd them, and checking it; expand the existing bags and suffer huge overweight fees. C&C was the only shipper open on Sunday before the flights, and they really helped out. In contrast to huge shipping fees and new luggage, C&C quickly solved our dilemma with a 12 bottle insert, standard box and TSA approved rolling nylon cover for the standard box at a fraction of the cost. The fact they are open on Sunday for frantic travelers is a big bonus. Problem solved. read more

Living in Massachusetts, it is challenging do ship wine home from Napa. Not only does Cartons and Crates have shipping options, but the have some, do it yourself options as well. We bought a travel case trolley(2 actually). It is like a duffel bad with wheels for a shipping container for a case of wine. It was economical, easy and got our wine how with us. The clerk on the weekend was very helpful. If you are visiting on the weekend, they are open on Saturday and Sundays. We are very happy with Cartons and Crates ! It allowed us to bring more of Napa home with us than we had originally planned. read more

When you are stuck on a Sunday and need to ship wine home. This is the place that you can go before noon. The person working on our visit was helpful. They had some used boxes at reduced prices which was nice. We were able box every thing with no issues. The price was little more than what we paid for at other places ($2 more). And the price on the shipping and the insurance was a little higher than other places. Though as I mentioned, nothing else was open at the time. Our confirmation information is supposed to be sent by email and we are supposed to receive our package in about one week. They ship their packages via UPS, which is good for us as they are more flexible. I will update the review after we receive our package.
