I'm in love. I'm in Jersey and I'm looking for a place to wind down the week. I figured, let me grab a beer, eat a quick dinner and then go to JR Cigar. I should have read the reviews instead of just doing a search for Cigars. This place, has EVERYTHING! When you drive up the windows say WORLDS LARGEST CIGAR STORE (In my mind I'm thinking, yeah ok) When you step to the right and open that door, its like another world. When you first walk in, its like an old Irish pub. Its dark with dark woods and taps! There are at least 10 beers on tap. And everyone is smoking! There is smoking allowed at the bar. When you walk thru the bar, you step into another area. To the right is a wall of alcohol for sale. A huge wine collection as well as vodka, gin and tequila. Huge! A woman greets me and says, would I like to try a sampling of our featured wine? Yesssssssss! I now move to the left, the cigar area. Oh baby.. There are cigars for sale, as high from the floor to the ceiling. It could be difficult to navigate but the folks behind the counter are knowledgeable and are there to assist with your cigar purchase. I choose my cigar and light up. I continue my survey of the space. In the back is a deli counter. I see these folks working hard and making meals for the customers. JR Cigar has an area for diners, there are multiple (4) top tables to grab bite to eat and drink a beer. I go back to the bar, smoke my cigar and order a Boddington on tap all while watching the Yankees pound the Red Sox. Life is good. read more

This location used to be an astounding environment to lounge and socialize with your friends, family members, colleagues. Since new management has taken over, it's becoming more of a test bed for "let's do something radical and see if it sticks". The retail pricing has increased significantly, the bartenders are subpar, and the restaurant is decent. Overall, this is no longer a must go location to fully enjoy a stogie, while enjoying good conversation with your party. read more

This place used to be great - friendly, great bar food, watch the game(s), a place where people from all walks could gather and enjoy a fine cigar. That has changed for the worse - much worse. The new management is very unfriendly - almost belligerent about being customer friendly. Despite 99% of the customers enjoy watching sports on the many TVs in the "lounge", the management openingly hates that customers want to watch various games. The TVs all have to be on the same channel even if multiple games are broadcast. The seating is deplorable with chairs that are very old, worn out, and very uncomfortable. As long as I've been coming here, the chair havent changed and they were never comfortable. Now, the cushions are non-existent. When I say the chairs are uncomfortable, I mean REALLY uncomfortable. And, you actually get yelled at if you want to move a chair as if management doesnt understand that smoking cigars is a communal, social activity. What's the big deal if someone moves a chair? Then there is the menu. The food used to be good bar food. Now the prices have practically tripled as if they fashion themselves as a boutique or a specialty restaurant - which it definitely is not. $30 for wings???? The new management sucks. They think no one cares because there are few places nowadays to smoke a cigar indoors. That attitude is a sure way to failure. read more

The only thing good about this place is the selection of cigars and my very sweet server. She worked her butt off. The cocktails are horrible! With a capital H. The food, ugh. I thought i could share a Cuban sandwich with my husband but my half was barely a bite. This place has totally gone down hill. I actually feel bad for them. I know good help is hard to find but if you are going to charge the same prices for less then what it used to be , think again. You are shooting yourself in the foot. Always a great experience coming to JR. Good selection of cigars, employees are very knowledgable and have made great recommendations on what to purchase. Plenty of spots to relax with a cigar, order food and drinks, or watch the game. We usually sit in the "restaurant" area to eat and drink but there are areas with more of a lounge feel too. Food specials are unreal. Somehow $11 gets you a big portion of pretty decent food AND a cigar. Last time I had the taco trio (brisket, fish, and I think carnitas) and they were huge! Buffalo chicken wrap, Cuban sandwich, and cheese steak have been other favorites. Drinks are also pretty good, we usually do Manhattans or old fashioned. We've been several times and are sure to keep bringing visiting friends here to kick off the night before going out in Morristown. read more

Went here for husband's birthday. The draw for coming here is being able to smoke inside. He and his friends definitely enjoyed that you can have a meal and sit and smoke, and not have to get up and stand outside. Also, the manager I spoke with originally in planning the birthday (Amanda maybe?) was excellent and accommodating. However, the waitress we had the actual evening provided totally abysmal service. Brought extra food we didn't order, didn't bring things we did order, and just generally seemed like she didn't care or like we were bothering her. She asked to take things that weren't finished, and left empty bottles and plates; when she did clear the table, she spilled beer all over one of the seats which splashed on one of us. When we asked for a cigar cutter (at a cigar lounge!!) she gave a blank look and said she'd "try to find one." The food is also wayyyy overpriced and not very good. Also, we were looking forward to going into the shop part to look around once we finished eating, but it closed before we could make it there. A "last call" would have been nice. Overall, if you're looking for a cool place to smoke inside and have some drinks, this will work, but don't expect good food or good service. read more

Love to meet friends for a cigar here but that's all that's good. I had to make a reservation on Open Table while I was actually in the restaurant at the host stand. Really????? Ordered tequila and they trick you here by saying they don't have what you ordered but "try this" instead. The alternate choice was double the price and that wasn't mentioned. Second time this has happened at this place. Waitress was overwhelmed as they were understaffed but she wasn't pleasant and it made the experience dissatisfying. Plus my burger took an hour to get and was overcooked and barely edible. Their regular chef didn't show up evidently. I'm glad I'm heading to Florida soon where I can smoke outdoors in warm weather and not have to put up with all of this. They can do better!!!! read more

I came for the annual Havana Night. It is my favorite night of the year at Casa de Montecristo, I already have the date saved on my calendar for next year. This year a group of friends made dinner reservation in the dining room. The food was better than the superb specials I have come to love on a weekly basis. This place is a cigar smokers paradise. Welcoming and very tasteful decor and seating areas. The humidor is one of the largest in the country. A very wide and diverse selections of cigars and very knowledgeable staff. The restaurant within the premises is spacious and surprisingly the food is good. Ashtrays don't get emptied, had to ask to clean out an over flowing ashtray No drink menu or offer of available selection of fine spirits or drinks to pair with your cigar. Had a great band though. Purchased sticks here before a few times for celebrations and such, but not very frequently. Now that I'm taking the plunge into the hobby, I decided to bring a group of friends on friday of last week to check out the actual lounge part of the building. We were a group of 6, three ladies and three young men, and everyone we spoke to was so friendly and accommodating it was an absolutely wonderful experience. My friends are brand new to cigars and the tobacconists in the shop helped everyone pick cigars they liked, and even though the lounge had many patrons our waitress was attentive and sweet!! the drinks and food came promptly and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and fun. Plenty of seating, top notch ventilation. My cocktail was made to perfection every single time i ordered another round. Other attendees seemed to be laughing and in good spirits. The staff is always very helpful in assisting you in picking out a new smoke or locating your favorites. Nice lounge and bar area with a great selection of Scotch, cognac, beer and other beverages. They also have some decent small plates and sandwiches. The adjacent wine/spirits section, while a bit pricey, also has some interesting finds. read more

J&R Cigar is the one place ive been buying cigars for years. There massive walk in humidor has even impress all my non smoking friends when we've stopped here. I normally purchase cigars by the case, but occasianally ill pick up one of two of their specials. They also have all sorts of things for pipes and their gift shop has an obundance of oddities. Ive browesed there wine selection and it pretty decent and the prices are average with a few things that drop below average. I know because i use to manage a liquor store and i was incharge of ordering and setting prices. They also have a restaurant to eat in which ive never been to but have wanted to try.
