We had only one gripe as we had to wait a 1/2 hour for a suite even though we had a reservation. Each time though the service is fantastic. It's always an amazing experience here, and this is the perfect spot for a special occasion dinner. We started off with lobster rolls which were perfectly portioned and delicious. An appetizer order comes with three small slider style rolls. For mains we shared the chicken parm and veggie ravioli. The chicken parm was an absolute show stopper. They do that thing where they come to the table with a hot pan of cheesy sauce and pour it over the cutlet. It tasted even better than it looked, and I love that this came paired with paccheri pasta. The spring ravioli is a nice and light dish and came with lots of fresh veggies. Love the vibes on the patio and an aperol spritz was the perfect drink to enjoy outside on a nice day. Had lunch here yesterday on a warm sunny day. Arrived early for a noon reservation for 2 people. The woman at the podium greeted me warmly but was not able/authorized to check on my reservation or seat me, despite the place being empty. We had to wait for Anthony, the arrogant host, to get off the phone. I walked around for a few minutes and as soon as my buddy arrived. We went back to the podium, waited a few minutes more for you-know-who to get off the phone. We asked to be seated outside under an umbrella. We headed outside. All of the umbrellas were down. We were seated and waited for Anthony to move an umbrella, open it and adjust it so we were actually in the shade. He said absolutely nothing this whole time and simply walked away, leaving us perplexed. Mike our waiter arrived and I have nothing but nice things to say about his attitude and friendliness. We ordered some drinks which were good and arrived timely. Then ordered our food. We shared sushi, which didn't seem as fresh as it should have been and included cucumber, despite me asking to make sure it was removed. The onion soup was thick, unflavorful and quite awful. My medium rare burger came overcooked and too burnt on the edges. I ate it anyway. This place, which has a prominent chef, should be able to do MUCH better. I'll start this review off with a shout out to Ryan @ the Bar, who was very welcoming each visit I made here; very timely service with great small talk in between! Now the food; I was very impressed with the many foods I've tried. For starters, I had the Crispy Dynamite Roll, the Clothesline Bacon, the Lobster Dumplings, the Crispy Rice Cakes, and the Fried Calamari. All were outstanding, but the lobster dumplings was underwhelming. Now for entrees, I have tried the Herb Crusted Salmon, Braised Lamb Shank, the Filet, and the NY strip. All were amazingly delicious! Highly recommend the herb crusted salmon which lays on a bed of pureed goodness. For sides, we gave the brussel sprouts, general tso's broccoli & cauliflower, and fire-roasted heirloom carrots a try. The general tso brocc and cauliflower were OUT OF THIS WORLD. It's perfect as an app too. I was truly impressed by this recommendation by Ryan. Now the fun part: COCKTAILS! Hands down, the Plum & Glory is dangerously addicting! My first time here with my family for Father's Day brunch. we were very underwhelmed. it was a prix fixed menu for $89/ person. All I can say is overall the food was probably about a $50/ person level. With a dissapointing dessert included in that price. The best thing was the bacon. outside of that my daughter ordered chicken and waffles, the waffle looked like a bigger version of an eggo waffle. chicken was fine. my pull pork sandwich had a very small amount of pulled pork in it and not very tasty. the other two dishes were not anything amazing which you would expect for the cost. Individual cheesecake for dessert were a bit sponges in texture and a bit artificial tasting. My individual lemon pie quite honestly was nothing special either more sweet with no sense of tart that lemon should give you. another case that looked like it was frozen and made somewhere else. I would expect for 3 courses at 90$ and nothing else included that we would be wowed at some point. The service and ambience were just ok. Also being in an office building was off putting and also when we walked through an entrance with a crumpled up floor mat in corner that should have been my que to know that it wasn't anything special. When you're out in Morristown or just want a date night, this place is a must stop. My wife and I randomly stopped by on a Friday night. Got a standing spot at the bar but quickly were accommodated seats by their manager, Jade. That doesn't happen too often. Ryan was our bartender/server who was very attentive and approachable. Being a bit of a "snub", we ordered few drinks and apps which were simply spot on. Highlight was def meeting one of their owners, George, what a great guy. Come for the vibes, not for the food. I came here with a party of 8, and noticed that a majority of the tables were large groups. The decor was amazing and really had a winter lounge vibe making it a great spot for a celebration. Unfortunately, all the food we ordered had the same theme of being over salted. We ordered the ravioli which had a salty sauce and lacked flavor on the inside. The 8oz steak was really dry and disappointing. We also ordered the French onion soup potatoes and found the entire thing very salt heavy, masking any other flavor, and a similar story with the general tso's cauliflower. The only item we liked were the French fries as they were crispy and the salt was appropriate. The tiramisu was also disappointing as it was soggy but flavorless. The winter cocktails were also disappointing as they mostly felt watered down - I soon switched to wine which was the better choice. You can either find street parking, or park in their garage ($10) in which you can take an elevator directly up to the restaurant. We sat at the bar for happy hour, and ordered some drinks along with a light dinner. The restaurant itself is very spacious and has a large outdoor space to dine in the summer months. Considering the prices from happy hour, I am pleased with my meal. My only complaint is how the oysters tasted a little too fishy. I was surprised to see how much of their menu consists of sushi. I came here with friends for brunch. I have been here before for dinner but I had a better experience than I did now. I would've recommended this place to someone after the dinner experience, but this Sunday's brunch it would be a solid no. The waiter seemed annoyed that we were there. Annoyed that we wanted to order a variety of drinks. Never even came back to ask if we needed a refill on water. I was even afraid to ask for anything, I just wanted out. He just seemed very upset or bothered he had to wait/ bartend at the same time (btw the restaurant was not busy at all). After all the hype of 1776 we finally we able to try it this weekend for date night. 1776 fell short and then some for our dining experience and I will definitely never return for a meal here. We had reservations for 615pm and were promptly seated. We waited for over 20 minutes before our server showed up and simply asked what type of water we wanted no drinks before he disappeared for what was another 20 minutes to return with just water. Then a random girl Katie who was pleasant came over took our drink order, then miraculously our server reappeared to confirm Katie had taken our drink order. 45 minutes before getting our first round of drinks. The winter night mojito was completely watered down by the time it got to our table so it had been sitting a while. My lychee plum twist was good and extremely strong and I ended up giving it to my boyfriend as he was disappointed in his drink and we had no idea when we would be ordering our next ones. We ordered a few appetizers to start: Love tuna roll, clothesline bacon, and Gruyère, cheddar & herb brioche buns The clothesline bacon came out within 5-10 minutes and they char it with a blowtorch at your table. A nice touch and we were glad this came out first as we were absolutely starving. About maybe 25-30 minutes later our love tuna roll came out. It was good but I've had better speciality rolls elsewhere and it was not worth the price. We had finished our bottle of sparkling water and Gabriel asked if we wanted another and I had said no thank you we are sticking to our drinks and are good. 3 minutes later he appeared with an already opened bottle of water we did not request. The gruyere cheddar buns never came out and our server had fully disappeared for about 45 minutes at this point being impossible to find or flag down. We both needed a drink refill and when our server finally reappeared my boyfriend ordered an IPA and it never came until 20 minutes later he asked if I wanted a cocktail and then he finally placed my drink and my boyfriends IPA order in. Our entrees and sides came out together and each steak was paired with a pile of arugula. My filet was ordered black and blue. It came out maybe medium rare/rare. It was edible and alright in flavor but it definitely could have benefited from some sea salt on top. My boyfriend ordered the dry aged prime NY strip and was disappointed and would not let me send it back as it was more on the well done side and extremely fatty. He did not want to wait another hour to get food and be able to eat, which I understand but for the price and wait it should've been cooked to the proper temperature. Our sides were the Mac & cheese, onion soup mashed potatoes, and hipster fries. The hipster fries were perfectly crisp and well seasoned with the shishito peppers and parmesan cheese and a rather huge order as well. The Mac & cheese was delicious very cheesy and the breadcrumbs on top balanced it perfectly. The onion soup potatoes were good but not my type of side. We opted to not get dessert as the long wait times and impossible to find our server was very frustrating. For a well know steak restaurant it was very upsetting to know the best parts of the meal were everything but the steak. The next complaint I had is the music playing it was early 2000s club music which did not make sense for the restaurant. It made sense in the top golf part of the location but not for the main dining area. I was very disappointed in our server Gabriel for being hard to locate, not placing parts of order twice, and prioritizing the larger party to our right whom arrived after us but received drinks and appetizers before us. 1776 the food was average and extremely disappointed in the cuts of steak. Especially seeing the table next to us order ribeye which is generally a fatty cut and have our ny strip filled with fat. Overall I would say the food was average minus the steaks, our service was beyond disappointing. Sadly I would not recommend or return solely based on our Sunday evening dining experience. The inside is modern and artsy, with plenty of seating and a bar that commands the room. This is an indoor golf simulation entertainment venue with eight rooms where patrons can play virtual golf as well as simulated sports including baseball, hockey, and soccer. My colleague and I started out with several rounds of golf with six members to a team. Their menu is full of delicious options to choose from the creation of Chef David Burke. As appetizers to share, we decided on the chef's famous Clothesline Bacon, Lobster Dumplings, Fried Calamari, Hipster Fries, Surf and Turf Skewers, Popcorn Chicken, Gruyère Cheddar Herb Brioche Buns, and Tuna & Salmon Tartare Tostones. For our meals, we decided on the Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass and Lemon Roasted Branzino, to name a few. Some of us saved room for dessert and got their DB's Cheesecake Lollipop Tree, Pumpkin Crème Brûlée, Apple Brioche Bread Pudding and Cookie Skillet. The clothesline bacon, consisting of three thick strips of crackly, hickory-smoked, maple-infused bacon, neatly clothespinned to a mini clothesline on a little wooden frame, was a star of the show. Talk about a staggeringly uneven experience. I came here for the post-First of the Year Hike with three chums, one of whom specifically recommended it despite the fact that it was a little bougie and most of us were wearing hiking clothes. We made a reservation about half an hour ahead of time, which I've decided is one of the reasons we were warmly received and seated without incident despite being very mangy compared to other patrons. The interior is really something to behold. I got enormously distracted by the 3-D foliage portrait things on the wall (which probably have a sophisticated artistic name), and there were still quite a bit in the way of classy holiday decorations throughout despite the calendar turning to 2025. We obviously had to take an impromptu photo op next to some colonial-themed shizzle on our way out. Very spiffy. I knew going in that the Clothesline Bacon needed to be procured. How I've somehow managed to go this far in life without eating strips of bacon mimicking laundry is beyond me. Huge recommend both for style and substance - we deliberated over getting two of these orders but ultimately decided that one giant slab each would be sufficient given everything else we were getting, and that was the right call. Juicy, flavorful, amazing. The Lobster Dumplings were also great, and probably the highlight for me - cooked exactly right, with a creamy tomato miso that perfectly complemented it. Also a huge positive? My entree, the Bananas Foster French Toast. This is typically a heavier meal (which I didn't mind, given that I'd already been on a ceremonial hike and gym visit earlier in the day), but it was actually pretty light - they didn't overly douse this in syrup or anything, and it was maybe even slightly undercooked, which I always think is a huge positive. These weren't giant slabs of Texas Toast, so that helped as well. Definitely would get that again. It's unfortunate that there were a few significant negatives that dampened the meal overall. The service was honestly strange; our waiter was very nice but not that attentive and did not stop by consistently. There were huge stretches especially in the second half of our stay where he was just not around and we were all craning our necks looking around for him. Beyond that though, there seemed to be a lot of disorganization and confusion in the kitchen. Literally at least four or five times (it could have been more), we had someone stop at our table to ask if the drinks or meals they were holding were for us. They weren't. And one time after we told them it wasn't ours, the guy came back to double-check! Really odd. I don't know if one of their systems was down but it wasn't a good look and was actually starting to get annoying after the second time. That's just bad management. The low point for me was the cookie skillet, which was literally the worst I've ever had. I don't think this is a hard dessert to master (if Applebee's can do it, anyone can), and yet when I took the first bite and looked over at my top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and was chewing pensively herself, I knew it was missing a key ingredient. It basically tasted like a protein bar - it was missing the sugar or the vanilla or something. Just awful. Thankfully it DID have a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it, but we didn't even eat half of it. Huge, huge miss on the equivalent of a food layup. Should not happen. There was an awful lot to like here, but the bottom line is that for the price and ambience, this didn't hit the mark. You can have the greatest dishes in the world, but if the service and management aren't up to par, it's going to cancel out a lot of the good. read more

Dining experience here was great! There is valet parking at the front along with a parking garage right next door. Interior is beautifully designed, we were sitting at a hightop table and it did not feel too crowded or that other people were sitting on top of us. There is a private room in the back for parties that also looked very nice. The surf and turf skewers I thought were just ok, kinda overpriced for what you get. The lamb shank app was very delicious and large portion. Lastly, I would recommend the general Tso cauliflower side, so crispy and delicious! The construction on the main level makes things more confusing and even though I know Morristown pretty well, going outside to find the place after parking is a little disorienting if you haven't done this recently. The Clothesline Bacon - black pepper, maple glaze, pickle, lemon is to die for. Any place looking to serve bacon as an appetizer should serve it this way. It was nice to see an extremely light a crispy fry to the Rock Shrimp & Calamari - zucchini, shishito peppers, citrus aioli. The Fried Goat Cheese & Strawberry Salad mixed greens, almonds, orange vinaigrette was good though a little light on the goat cheese part. Sharing the 34 oz Dry Aged Prime Porterhouse with the table worked out well. The Hipster Fries - shishito peppers, bacon, parmesan and the General Tso's Broccoli & Cauliflower contains cashews (very unique) were great sides. Enough food to take some home as well. We were really excited to finally try 1776 esp since it's a David Burke restaurant which we've always enjoyed his places. The ambiance was sleek and modern. The vibe felt lively without being too loud. We started with rosemary bacon was a great start, especially with the table side roasting and the bread basket was generous with a perfectly seasoned butter. Unfortunately my well-done steak came out rare (still bleeding) and was oddly the first dish to hit the table, even before everyone else's meals. They made an attempt to recook it but it was still too undercooked to eat (for my liking). The desserts were a great, we ordered the key lime pie which was delicious and beautifully plated. The the other cookie dessert was just as fun and tasty. We appreciated the manager comping over $100 from our bill, which felt fair given the steak issue. I have always been a fan of Chef David Burke and his whimsical cuisine, and I had really enjoyed my visit to 1776 for a Yelp event a few years ago. That Elite function had included a $25 gift card, which I finally went back to use recently. The restaurant was located in a modern office building and provided a breadth of seating options. There was a patio out on the main thoroughfare, a massive bar with neighboring high-top tables, and several areas of standard seating. The decor was sleek, upscale, and playful, which perfectly mirrored the clientele with the same attributes. Though their beverage program sounded excellent, I was driving, so I decided to order one of their fancy mocktails instead. The Skinny Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita had a good deal of fruity sweetness and peppery heat. Unfortunately, the restaurant had gotten rid of their complementary popovers, so we had nothing to pair with our round of drinks. But, we were starving and needed to order some sort of starter. So, we opted for the chef's famous Clothesline Bacon, which was 3 large, thickly-sliced slabs of meat hanging from a small clothesline. I appreciated the kitschy presentation, but even if someone did not, they would be blown away by the tender pork that had been glazed in maple syrup and sprinkled with black pepper. Each bite was smoky, sweet, and zesty, and their juices were dripping onto a pickle that was laying underneath the line. That pickle was the best pickle I had ever had, since it was covered in all of that bacon grease! While that dish had come out rather quickly, the rest of our meal did not. However, our server was a complete delight and made sure to stop by and let us know that our food was being worked on, since she might have sensed our lack of patience. The main dishes finally arrived, and they were excellent! Based on positive review of the sushi during my event visit, I decided to order 2 rolls as my entree. I was a bit concerned that the 2 might not satisfy my hunger, but they were huge! Each roll had 10 pieces, making them much more substantial than maki tend to be. The Salmon Mango Roll contained salmon, avocado, and cucumber, and it had slices of fresh mango on the outside. The Dragon Roll was similarly stuffed with avocado and cucumber, but also shrimp tempura. Pieces of marinated eel were draped across the top. Both were super fresh and really flavorful, though if I had to choose my favorite of the 2, it would be the Dragon. I also tasted a piece of the 18-oz. Rosemary Salt-Crusted Prime Rib, which was only available on Fridays and Saturdays. The bite that I had needed salt, and I heard that some pieces had more salt than others, likely based on if they were near the crust or not. Despite the lack of seasoning on my slice, I thought the steak was tender and well-prepared. I also grabbed a few of the Hipster Fries, which were eclectic because they included shishito peppers and bacon. (They were also supposed to be sprinkled with parmesan cheese, but we asked for that to be omitted.) The fries were greasy, but were very flavorful and served in a giant bowl! We thought that they were reasonably priced at $12. 1776 provided a really delicious culinary experience in a creative atmosphere, and I would definitely like to return. read more

If you're looking for a NYC vibe in NJ, this is it! I love the modern, contemporary ambiance of 1776--it has that sleek, big-city feel. I've been here many times, but one visit truly stood out. I had seen an email about a Veuve Clicquot promotion week and arrived just after it ended. When I mentioned to the bartender that I'm a huge Veuve fan (and had just earned my WSET Level 2 certification), he disappeared for a moment and returned with the Veuve Clicquot giveaways from the event. I was floored! That small gesture sealed it--the little things make a big difference! ...And the food is fantastic too - do yourself a favor and try the clothesline bacon and lobster roll. I like 1776! I was very happy going with out of town colleagues because they were so chill with letting us sit and drink for a bit before ordering food. The meals and appetizers themselves were great. I was a little annoyed because we received the last of every beer type we ordered, and some of the remaining choices weren't great. It was also 79 degrees inside that day. It was so hot, and they wouldn't even open the doors. It was obvious something was broken, but there were no moves to fix it. That being said though, I do generally like eating here. I like the varied menu and never have any issues with the food. You're definitely paying for the name and location, but it's really not that bad. read more

i came here for happy hour, which features both drink and food specials. the service was excellant! love the space and natural lighting. wings: these needed some help. i got the garlic parm. they were skimp on meat. not that hot. to be honest the chicken felt overcooked? something was off, but it didnt feel plump and juicy. spicy tuna roll & california roll: i prefer the california because it had real crab meat. the spicy tuna roll was okay. not spicy at all. i felt both rolls were incredibly small and the rice was a bit hard. oysters: they had them on special 2 for $4. they were so small. barely a bite. cleaned well. read more

I was very excited to come to 1776 for my first time in Morristown. The bacon was exceptional (although very rich). The lobster dumplings were good. Then I ordered the scallops and shrimp - at $44 I expected it would be excellent. The scallops were horrific - I was hosting a client, and couldn't send them back (or risk making a scene), but they tasted like they had been seared in butter that was rancid. On top of that, the shrimp were rubbery. I expected far better quality for the prices paid, and with this experience, will never return. read more

1776 has a pleasant upscale atmosphere with a large patio seating area, quite lovely. One cocktail a Proper was refreshing and well balanced. The other cocktail, see photo, a Oaxacan Paper Plane was a nice riff on a traditional paper plane however a major cocktail faux pas as it was served with a complete layer of ice floating on top! A complete no no!!! It tasted like it had the makings of a great cocktail but of course with the ice soon was watered down. I was actually shocked the bartender in such a place would make and serve it that way. Just plain sloppy bartending. That's the sole reason for my 2 stars. read more

My friends and I were so excited to come here after reading all the reviews, but it ended up just being ok. Parking options include valet, street parking, or the garage around the corner from the restaurant. We made reservations ahead of time so we had no problems getting seated shortly after arriving. Service was slow and we ended up ordering our meals with another server because we didn't see ours. We started with a couple cocktails. I don't recall the name of the drink I ordered (pink with the spicy rim in the picture). The drink itself was good but if you look at the picture, I basically received a ball of ice with a half filled beverage. That picture was before I even had a sip of it. We ordered the Love Tuna Roll to share and I ordered Maple Glazed Cedar Plank Salmon. I was not really a fan of the Maple Glazed Cedar Plank Salmon. The middle of the salmon was undercooked so I didn't eat much of it. The Love Tuna Roll was probably my favorite part of the meal - lovely presentation and taste. I wish I ordered that for my meal instead. For the price we paid, it was a bit disappointing. read more

The decor and overall setup are very nice--definitely a high-end space with a lovely winter lounge feel. The bar is nicely done. The lighting and the garden are lovely The staff is extremely busy but still courteous. The menu is hit or miss:. While everything is executed well, the place lacks energy or personality. It feels more like a steakhouse focused on eating and drinking in groups, without much atmosphere or sense of experience. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, but it is boring. read more
