Lovely spot to catch up with an old friend over brunch on the weekends. Surprisingly easy to find street/metered parking. Friendly staff and delicious food. I've been coming for over a year and so far there's only one dish that I have not liked and that was my most recent visit and it was their pozole. I think that if I didn't know what good pozole tasted like, I wouldn't think twice. In my humble opinion, however, this pozole was lacking flavor. Even with all the fixings and a good amount of the red salsa I was still disappointed. The highlight of this dish were the chips on the side. I finished the dish but left hungry and disappointed. Needless to say, I will never order this again. Anyway, everything else I've ever had from here has been absolutely delicious. Love their egg dishes. If I'm really hungry I can go with either their chilaquiles or huevos rancheros. If I'm felling something light, their huevos escalfados are just right. My partner likes their enfrijoladas, but sometimes they mess up the filling. Their pupusas are not bad and seem popular, but I think they're slightly pricey and would rather go to a Salvadoran spot for pupusas. Their coffee and horchata are good but not special. Their pan dulce smells and tastes yummy. Despite my mixed experiences the ambiance keeps me coming back for more and earns this place the 5 stars. read more

What have I been doing with my life?!? Casa Latina has some amazing food! Haven't had a pastry again (yet), but my partner and I like to come here for the pupusa plate (I like the cheese or black bean) with amazing plantains and refined beans. I'm not a huge fan of mole, but the tamales with mole is also amazing. Please also get their tres leches cake! So good! So far, the only thing I haven't enjoyed with extreme enthusiasm is there mole pork burrito (because I'm not a fan of mole and also I don't really like pork). I'm still planning to try other items on the menu. The only drawback here is service is extremely slow. Usually street parking is not too bad here and there's typically seating indoors (no outdoor seating). Next time you're craving pupusas or plantains... go check it out! read more

A large display case across from the register holds any pastries you might want to add onto your meal, or coffee, or margarita if that's your poison. The lady at the front was awesome with questions I had. I had gotten the legumbres revuelto, and an order of the pozole. Compatriot had gotten a pupusa plate. The pozole was good but I think other renditions of it are better. The legumbres revuelto was good and pretty well balanced. I liked the flavor of the veggies which worked well overall. The pupusas were pretty good but I thought they were a little dry and I wanted more cheese honestly. A good meal with some drinks and good company. I like the decor and service here. I think the plates are a little but much for mexican food. There was too much cheese in the papusa un my opinion. I think it should be a 50/50 split with the cheese and the dough. Mine was more 80% cheese and 20% dough. But the tacos are really good!!! Always like is this place new then find out it's been in this location for years reviewed by a zillion people and almost universally loved. Me consistently being on top of nothing. But one of us searched it up and thought so many people sing these praises we shall give it a try. Fish taco and Especial del Diego were sampled. I preferred the latter to the former but both were delicious. Perfect portion size to satisfy your craving without forcing a half hour sleeping in the car after. House made spicy and not spicy sauces. The Diego Special was delectable and I'd recommend your experiencing this for breakfast at the earliest opportunity. Interior is spacious and plenty of room for even the most germ conscious person. Fresh breads and bakery smells, happy pretty people. All around winner. The food here pales in comparison to the bakery items. I absolutely loved each pastry that I bought in the bakery. I wish the pastries were labeled, because you kinda just have to guess at the ingredients. They have multiple pastries filled with guava, custard, or pineapple, as well as an assortment of other sugary delicacies! You can tell that the pastries are baked fresh, and they were so soft that they melted in my mouth after I took one bite. It has a homey, fresh out of the oven feel. I got a shrimp burrito and a vegetarian taco also. The burrito was meh in terms of flavor, it wasn't bad, but it was just average. The burritos are really heavy and gigantic though, so be ready to take home leftovers! The taco was pretty good, but wasn't great enough that I would come back for the food alone. For 2 sandwiches, 2 beers, and ceviche it was 60$ which might sound good but the place looks more like a casual dining spot so I felt like I thought it would've been cheaper. Really great local Latin food and baked goods. I was super happy to find this place because I love a good pan dulce. I ordered the veggie enchiladas, partner ordered the huevos rancheros. Came in with a group of 5 people on a Sunday evening. The bakery selection was smaller than usual due to the time of day so if you are looking for bakery goods show up early. Order and pay at the counter, there is a small bar behind if you need a margarita or beer. We ordered pupusas, mushroom empanadas, and guacamole starters. All of these were really good, the chips are nicely seasoned and crispy. For main courses we had Baja fish tacos and a barbacoa plate. The fish tacos should be eaten quickly as the toppings can make the crispy fish soggy quickly. The flavor of the food was good, they have a special green salsa that won everyone over. Service was very polite and the food comes out pretty quick. This is a good spot to go if you're in this part of town. read more

When we first walked in at 10:00AM, no one greeted us. The two staff members behind the counter assumed we came for coffee. When I asked to sit down for a meal, we were instructed to take our own menus and then order from the counter. This place is not as cute as it looks in the pictures. It was actually kind of depressing because it looked abandoned and bleak. The floors could use a good cleaning and the entire place looks a bit dusty and unkempt. The music was somewhat loud but we enjoyed the international music and it transported us to another country. We ordered two moles (chicken and pork) and each was 15.50. I had the chicken mole which was very spicy and sweet but the mole lacked the complexity I was hoping for. I took the pork mole home (see pic). This dish used to come with tortillas, beans and rice but now it comes only with rice which is unfortunate because I asked for black beans and it really saved the meal. Otherwise, the mole was just too sweet and it needed something salty to balance it. The Spanish rice had no flavor. The chicken was just plain boiled chicken. It was very soft but had no chicken flavor at all. It tasted like they used chicken to make broth and then took the leftover chicken and covered it in mole sauce. My partner ordered a CA taco which was actually impressive since it came in a massive plate filled with black beans, rice, and lots of grilled chicken, lettuce, salsa and guacamole and two small tortillas. All this for a little over 7 dollars. There was a homeless man who parked his cart outside and he kept running inside. At one point, he took all the tips out of the tip box and then he was told to leave. I would not recommend their moles. I would recommend their tacos here. read more

You order at the front and then self-seat along with getting your own water, napkin, and utensils. They do buss your table though (unless I did it wrong). Anyways my review is specifically for the pork and cheese pupusa. I was really excited to find another place besides Platano but was actually disappointed with the food. The pickled stuff they gave weren't as good. The pupusa fell short for me - lacking in flavor and texture of the cornmeal bread was very grainy. Pricing was also more expensive and not worth it in my opinion. My friend ordered the fish burrito though and liked it. Casa Latina truly is the love of my life! I have been going to this spot for YEARS, but after not going for 2 years, I knew the time had come for me to go again. I walk in and the place is poppin on a Friday night! I was excited to see how busy they were because they used to be pretty light on attendance when I would come in the past. The woman taking our order was kind and their service is super fast! The inside decor has Frida Kahlo's everywhere and makes me overjoyed with happiness because Frida is one of my favorite human beings and a huge inspiration to me. So about the food... I treated my b to a large dinner of a carne asada burrito, torta with pollo asado, two pupusas (one with pork and one with black beans and cheese), and topped it off with tres leches cake. We split everything and jammed!! We both died over the burrito, the torta was my favorite, and the pupusas were delicious! My b loves tres leches cake and I'm not even a big tres leches fan but we both LOVED it!! We were completely stuffed to the brim after. My b also decided this was going to be our regular spot from now on because I opened his eyes to how amazing Casa Latina is. I cannot wait to go again! Highly recommend. A few tables for indoor dining. They don't take your order at the table. You'll have to order at the cashier. The interior gives rustic vibes. The frida art on the wall is nice as well. Flautas de mole poblano. The mole for my liking was too sweet. The flautas are placed over the sauce which made them a bit soggy. I would have preferred just over the flauta. Pupusa Plato. I really enjoyed this. I got the pupusa revuelta. The plate comes with 2 pupusa, plantano macho and beans of choice. The plate items complimented well. Will definitely be back for this meal. I loved that they raised the bar for Tres leches cake. There were two other places in the area I thought had good cake, but Casa Latina blows them all away. I always get the nachos every time I come here because they are seriously so good. And they're not your typical nachos with nacho cheese. They have fresh cheese, salsa, jalapeños, a generous portion of toppings and the bonus is that the chips are made fresh!! This honestly makes all the difference. I also recently tried their platanos appetizer which was *chefs kiss.* Also their bakery?! A hidden gem. I tried one of the pastries filled with cream and you can just tell how fresh it is from one bite. I want to try the tres leches cake the next time I'm there because it really looked amazing. Excellent atmosphere, clean and bright. As I walked in, I was drawn by the colorful pastries which was shocking, cus I do not have a sweet tooth, but just cannot keep my eyes on the huge delicious looking pastries that are calling my name. The menu has many varieties from empanadas, tacos, flautas, burritos, mole, and even breakfast dishes. Therefore, I am expanding my taste buds beyond the regular fish tacos. I ordered a chicken mole, a rich chocolate sauce covered shredded chicken with rice, topped with pickled pepper. The sauce was smooth with a taste of semi dark chocolate and savory, with a dash of hot sauce, it was partying in my mouth. The shredded chicken was tendered. Glad i expanded my horizon beyond the fish tacos. Yes, i did pick up three pastries back to the office. Tried a half, it was soft and not sweet at all. My boyfriend and I picked up some pan dulce today. I've come here in the past for their tacos (very yum. I recommend the grilled fish taco!) but this was my first time trying their pastries What we tried: - Concha: this is given its name because the shape of the topping. This was very reminiscent of a Chinese pineapple bun but slightly more dense and less sweet. - Strawberry muffin: this was yummy. The filling had chunks of strawberry which I liked. - Sprinkled cookie: this was a standard sugar cookie with sprinkles covering it. Nothing too special but simple and yummy. - Gusano de canela: a mildly sweet bread that is fairly dense covered with cinnamon. This was yummy but for my sweet tooth, I needed more sugar haha. - Oreja: this is a puff pastry that is named because of its ear shape. It is sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. This was definitely my favourite. I popped these in the microwave for about 10 seconds before eating! I prefer my pastries and breads to be on the warm side. read more

This place has a great vibe to it! The decorations are cohesive throughout the whole store including the music. The staff is extremely nice and kind. They have everything you want from a pastry to a full on meal. They have coffee and other beverages like margaritas! My easy go to there is the bean and cheese pupusa which is delicious with their pickled slaw. The pupusas always taste freshly made and not just sitting there. There always a decent amount of foot traffic in there buying all sorts of things. I see them constantly baking fresh goods and restocking their bakery. We have been very lucky to find parking on the street every time. There are meters all along the street that this is at. We haven't had any negative experiences here. It is missing 1 star because I wish their menu was more clear. I saw that they had an espresso machine but I could not find where the drink menu was. My boyfriend also got an al pastor burrito that I felt was underwhelming. It had more rice than meat and was a tad blan. So next time we are just going to stick to the pupusas! One of my favorite sit-down friendly Mexican spots in Berkeley! Casa Latina is an adorable white corner building with ample indoor seating and many a portrait of Frida Kahlo - I counted at least 7, which is a fun personality quirk of the place. You order at the counter and while a line will likely form, they move fast and get you your food faster than expected! I got the pupusa plate - one cheese, one bean and cheese - and they were scrumptious pillows of joy!! They are quite large, the cheese one is generously filled, and the plate comes with more beans and plaintains and pickled veggies, which you can put on top the pupusas. Their quesadilla is also quite sizable and looked good. In addition to dinner, they are a good happy hour spot for Sangria, and they also have a great selection of Mexican pastries, as they have an in-house bakery too! read more

Casa Latina is a lovely spot for Mexican food in San Pablo. I love the decor and artwork. I recently went with a friend and got the chilaquiles with red salsa- be warned of the spice level. I consider myself to have a reasonably high spice tolerance but this was really very hot! The texture of the tortilla chips were perfect. I do wish it was a little less spicy!
