Hoping these are just growing pains for a brand new restaurant but this place leaves a lot to be desired. I'm giving it a 3 out of 5 based on my hopes for the future, but I would probably call it closer to a 2 as of right now. We went on Friday at 5pm with our two kids, and the place wasn't terribly crowded but looked great. First problem-- no high chairs available. In a restaurant of this size, only having 2 high chairs seems insane-- there were at least 3 other families in our immediate vicinity juggling their small children since there was nowhere to put them. We really wanted to try this place so we decided to make it work. Right away we ordered margaritas, which were delicious! And the salsa was fantastic. However, know that they only bring you a tiny bowl of chips and salsa, and charge $9 for more. We also ordered kids meals for two kids. The kids meals came out incorrectly, but that was fine-- new place-- we let them know and they replaced with the correct items (still ended up charging us for the incorrect items, but that's for later). The chicken quesadillas were falling apart... not enough cheese, basically just chicken in a tortilla. Kids liked it enough anyway. Next we ordered the fundido-- also very good and a huge portion. However, know that they will not bring you chips with this, only 4 tortillas-- not nearly enough. Again, $9 for what the menu itself describes as "small chips and salsa," which is wild. At this point, we're almost an hour in and our toddler is impossible to hold in our laps since we still don't have a high chair, so we decide to call it a night (we had really wanted to have a full dinner but it wasn't worth eating while holding a squirming child). It took 15 minutes from here to get an incorrect check overcharging us for two different things, then another 10 once I requested they fix it. The final version still was overcharging us but I felt bad for the very nice waitress and just told her not to worry about it (I also wanted to get out of there). Total was $84 before tip for: 1. One kids chicken quesadilla with rice and beans 2. One kids cheese quesadilla with fries 3. One apple juice 4. One classic rocks margarita 5. One strawberry rocks margarita 6. One queso fundido (no add ins) Again, the margaritas and the queso fundido were really good. The kids quesadillas were just ok. The other thing I'll note, which we noticed as we were planning to eat dinner (before we realized we couldn't continue a second hour without a high chair)-- the prices are all over the map, definitely on the very high side. For example, nachos on the appetizer list are $14. If you add shredded chicken, it increases the price by $15... to $29. Again, $29 for appetizer nachos that don't even have guac on them-- they are listed as having refried beans and munster cheese, topped with pico and jalapeños-- that's shocking. All in all, this place has the opportunity to be something amazing. I really love the interior and the margaritas and queso are so good. However, there is a lot for them to work on with service, the customer experience, and value. My immediate recommendation would be to evaluate their value proposition and rethink their pricing while also investing in more of the customer-facing touches (Ridgefield very much being a family town) and training their staff extensively.

You wouldn't expect downtown Ridgefield to have a taqueria amongst the upscale shops and math tutors, but guess what? Remember when Hilary was running for president and her opponent threatened there'd be taco trucks on every corner if she won? That wouldn't have bothered me one bit. I'm at a taqueria, I'm going to have some tacos! I ordered three: one with fried shrimp, one with mango and shrimp, and one with chorizo. (We went last week, so I forget the proper names. You'll see them on the menu.) The tortillas are the standard taco size, about 13 cm, so anyone can down a trio with room to spare, if you want an appetizer or dessert. They have table service, so pick a seat, grab or pour a soda or ask for a beer, and get ready. The kitchen is pretty quick, about as quick as eating three delicious tacos will take. The meats were fried or grilled to perfection. The sauces, fruits, and veggies are the perfect temperature and texture. A few Mexican hot sauce bottles are yours to use as you see fit, which this heat hound appreciates. My girlfriend's rice bowl looked great, too, so I'll assume this taqueria can do more than make some awesome tacos. They're space is a little cramped, being on the wrap-around first floor of a building with a staircase in the middle. It's an odd design, and not accessible, but you can blame whoever built this place decades ago. (Fortunately, I think you can get delivery, or a to-go order.) EV drivers take note: there are a whole row of level-2 chargers across the street next to CVS!

The wings are smoked to perfection and our table loved the garlic parmesan. Super savory and the sharp parm hits every time. I used about every napkin in sight and won't apologize for it. I could eat the brisket grilled cheese every day of the week. Buttered up and toasted to perfection. The chopped brisket and melted cheddar go together forever. The Holy Texas Trinity will feed a hungry family of four without a question. Smoked jalapeño cheese sausages will change your life. Created in house by CT's self proclaimed sausage king Tyler. The brisket is ridiculously flavorful and the slices are very generous. Ribs were cooked well and dip nice with the table sauces. Cornbread is so fat and tasty I would commit crimes for a whole tray. All washed down with a cold Two Roads Honey Spot.

Every time I get it, without fail, the server informs me that it is a big portion. And I say YES. The beef rib is juicy, meaty, fall-off the bone tender, oily, and you just get hit with that wave of immediate satisfaction on first bite. That said, it is pricey so it's more of an experience than a casual dinner. The rest of the food is decent. Also like the corn bread.

It's getting more and more disappointing every time I go. One time recently, I ordered the Jesse Burger, which was a classic from the old menu. It had shrunken drastically in size. Okay, I can never finish a burger anyway, and I didn't finish this one either. But while Old Ancient Mariner's burgers weren't exactly the best around, this one was dry and just trying to look fancier, an absolute downgrade. But worst of all, the scallops were absolutely terrible, and for around $38 I believe. I was excited to try them, but they were undersized and chewy, and the cauliflower purée underneath was grainy and disgusting. It barely qualified as a side at that price point anyway. What is this new owner doing??? We're all whispering about it in Ridgefield and taking bets. I really hope he turns it around. Right now, I can't recommend it for anything but booze with townies, if they even keep going.
