I really wanted to love this place as I was so excited for the grand opening, but unfortunately it was only about average. The ambiance and staff were great, but it was lacking in the other areas of my review. Let's start with the good... The staff was great!! Very kind, very smiley, and they tried to accommodate when possible. Also, the ambiance was really cool. Very nice decor, very cool lighting, and a great bar area. They also have a stage for music, so that was interesting. The margaritas were above average. They definitely pack a punch. I'd definitely recommend the frozen over the rocks though. Now for the lacking areas... The prices were extremely expensive and they are very stingy. Everything was easily 60% more than almost any Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. To make matters worse, a $26 meal does not even come with rice and beans...a standard at most places. Actually, nothing came with rice, beans, or other basic sides. Everything costs extra...basic sides, more chips and salsa, etc. I understand when places have high prices, but I do not appreciate stingy behavior, I find it unethical, especially when they are not forthcoming about it. The food was mediocre, not special. It wasn't bad, but it was not as good as many other places close by. Overall, I would come back if they change some of these things, but until then I'll have to go to other nearby places that are considerably better. read more

Lovely atmosphere and very good food. The margaritas are delicious. However, I preferred my husband's enchiladas to my garlic shrimp only because the shrimp was undercooked and had too much sauce for my taste. Maybe I should have asked for browned shrimp. The prices are fair and chips are delicious. The singer for entertainment was fantastic. He belted out a combination of popular and Mexican songs with all of his heart and soul. I must say that the reviews posted already are most accurate. The pictures are on spot. We were very excited to try out a new Mexican restaurant in the area, especially given the options around. Yes, the decor is amazing, and one can see all the money that was invested into making an authentic, looking restaurant, from the lighting to the hardwood floors, to the chairs and tables And the bar area beautiful! The menu - the prices are incredibly overpriced. Expect to pay on average, $30 for an entrée with sides costing extra. The chips and salsa are tasty but incredibly small, and additional fills cost nine dollars each! That is foreign to me as often restaurants will refill chips and salsa for nothing . The portions are average - I would not say generous however I would not say ridiculous either. The margaritas frozen we're pretty good actually and I would say typical prices. The staff is learning their role and overall was fine, though they seem somewhat nervous and conversation is minimal. I will be coming back to read reviews to see if things improve, but at this time, have no plans to rush back. read more

Well ya. I was being generous with my two star review. Trust your instincts. I generally check reviews before I try a new restaurant, but I gambled and tried Casa Lu. This was a significant error. The restaurant looks like fun. Maybe it has an epic bar crowd on the weekends. The food was TERRIBLE. Not some of the food - all of it. The fish tacos were tasteless and mushy. My partner's dish was flavorless, and - though ordered sans gluten - was packed with gluten. The single ear of street corn was rotten. The first bite revealed its nasty brown cob. The margarita was gross. It claimed to be made with top shelf tequila, but it was clearly the cheapest lighter fluid available. We walked from the table with 95% of the food untouched. I asked for the bill and the manager approached and offered - free dessert for our troubles. No thanks. He did reduce the bill by 50%, so I only paid half price for food I didn't eat. This location is the kiss of death for restaurants. The only way to succeed there is to be a destination restaurant with a strong following. I have a feeling we will all be following the travails of Casa Lu until vacancy prevails. read more

I went for dinner with my family and was immediately impressed by the ambiance and decor of the place. The wait staff was very welcoming, especially with 2 young kids. When I opened the menu I was immediately taken back by the prices, they definitely are on the higher end of what is expected at this kind of establishment. It also appeared that there are a lot of up-charges. I ordered a steak and chicken fajita which was mediocre. The steak was cooked as requested, but was under seasoned. All of it needs improvement. First of all there was no hostess for a very long time. We stood ungreeted for at least 5 min. We finally saw a waitress and asked if we seat ourselves, she literally shrugged her shoulders and kept walking. Eventually a hostess did come, we said 3 and she disappeared again for a really long time. We should have just left at that point, but unfortunately we didn't. In addition, the restaurant did not smell like delicious Latin food. IT SMELLED LIKE ROTTEN FISH! The lighting is very bright, like that of a cafeteria. They would do themselves a service to changed to warm lights and dim them. Next, there was live music and the singer was good, however, the speaker volume was SO LOUD we couldn't have a conversation at our table without yelling to each other. Ugh, I don't really enjoy leaving bad reviews, but I feel this one is necessary. I'll start with good stuff: murals are fun, decor is playful, and there's lots of room. However, our service was dreadful. After 30 min, we hadn't received our water, drinks, or the high chair we asked for when we arrived. The overpriced table side guacamole was underwhelming. One of us had enchiladas that had a bone (or something?). The table was too small to fit our meals. Smiles were hard to come by from the staff. The food was good, but I've had better Mexican food. The décor is very interesting, much more the "Day of the Dead" theme than I have ever seen in a Mexican restaurant. You can tell they spent a lot of time and effort decorating the restaurant. The velvet chairs are very nice and comfortable. Our waiter was pleasant, professional, and friendly. Hoping these are just growing pains for a brand new restaurant but this place leaves a lot to be desired. I'm giving it a 3 out of 5 based on my hopes for the future, but I would probably call it closer to a 2 as of right now. We went on Friday at 5pm with our two kids, and the place wasn't terribly crowded but looked great. First problem-- no high chairs available. In a restaurant of this size, only having 2 high chairs seems insane-- there were at least 3 other families in our immediate vicinity juggling their small children since there was nowhere to put them. We really wanted to try this place so we decided to make it work. Right away we ordered margaritas, which were delicious! And the salsa was fantastic. However, know that they only bring you a tiny bowl of chips and salsa, and charge $9 for more. We also ordered kids meals for two kids. The kids meals came out incorrectly, but that was fine-- new place-- we let them know and they replaced with the correct items (still ended up charging us for the incorrect items, but that's for later). The chicken quesadillas were falling apart... not enough cheese, basically just chicken in a tortilla. Kids liked it enough anyway. Next we ordered the fundido-- also very good and a huge portion. However, know that they will not bring you chips with this, only 4 tortillas-- not nearly enough. Again, $9 for what the menu itself describes as "small chips and salsa," which is wild. At this point, we're almost an hour in and our toddler is impossible to hold in our laps since we still don't have a high chair, so we decide to call it a night (we had really wanted to have a full dinner but it wasn't worth eating while holding a squirming child). It took 15 minutes from here to get an incorrect check overcharging us for two different things, then another 10 once I requested they fix it. The final version still was overcharging us but I felt bad for the very nice waitress and just told her not to worry about it (I also wanted to get out of there). Total was $84 before tip for: 1. One kids chicken quesadilla with rice and beans 2. One kids cheese quesadilla with fries 3. One apple juice 4. One classic rocks margarita 5. One strawberry rocks margarita 6. One queso fundido (no add ins) Again, the margaritas and the queso fundido were really good. The kids quesadillas were just ok. The other thing I'll note, which we noticed as we were planning to eat dinner (before we realized we couldn't continue a second hour without a high chair)-- the prices are all over the map, definitely on the very high side. For example, nachos on the appetizer list are $14. If you add shredded chicken, it increases the price by $15... to $29. Again, $29 for appetizer nachos that don't even have guac on them-- they are listed as having refried beans and munster cheese, topped with pico and jalapeños-- that's shocking. All in all, this place has the opportunity to be something amazing. I really love the interior and the margaritas and queso are so good. However, there is a lot for them to work on with service, the customer experience, and value. My immediate recommendation would be to evaluate their value proposition and rethink their pricing while also investing in more of the customer-facing touches (Ridgefield very much being a family town) and training their staff extensively. read more

This place is incredible. The wait staff is super attentive and very knowledgeable. The decor is absolutely perfect. The prices are comparable to everything else in Fairfield County. The atmosphere is fun and very NYC mixed with Cabo! Open late on weekends with live music and a DJ.... where else in the boring town of Ridgefield can you find that? Yikes... don't usually feel the need to write a review but where do I start? We just finished our dinner here. Service was slooow... adequate but painfully slow. Salsa (literally the size of a shot glass) tasted like marinara sauce. Fajitas came without rice/beans and charged $3 for any little extras that most restaurants would just throw in. They use muenster cheese in their dishes?? Charged me $19 for a margarita...wth?! And we brought enchiladas home for our kids...mushy mess. $25 for gross, ground beef enchiladas. They are trying to take advantage of customers with pricing and not providing quality food or service in return. Won't return. read more

We were on our way north on rt 7 and came across this restaurant and decided to try it. When we walked through the door all we could smell was septic. Were the bathrooms right there? I am not sure. We sat at the bar and I could still smell the awful smell. The service was .good The food was just OK, no sides come with the meal and the prices are very high. I was somewhat hesitant about going to Casa Lu after I read the reviews, but I have to assume they were all based on the place getting itself going. We had a group of 8. We all ordered different things: Steak Enchiladas, Fish Tacos, Chicken Quesadillas, etc. Everyone was happy with the taste and presentation of the food. The guacamole was the best I've had. They prepare it table-side which was a treat. My margarita was delicious! And, contrary to past reviews, they don't charge for the tortilla chips. The ambiance was very nice, and the staff was very attentive. We will be back! read more

I was so excited to try this place... Mexican is my favorite cuisine. The decor is perfect! We've tried it twice in hopes of giving it a chance. The food is....atrocious. At best none of it has any flavor. Order anything with steak, it is the only edible item (eight meals in....). The steak quesadilla had ...steak....the amount of cheese was questionable as we couldn't see it. But at least the steak was cooked nicely, as it was in the flavorless steak fajitas. Do **NOT** order a "burrito"....there is a reason you can only have chicken. It's some odd chicken mush with rice wrapped in a tortilla wrap...no salsa, sour cream, anything else, just chicken mush and rice that looked like Spanish rice....and literally no flavor. Fries are served on the side (?). Enchiladas were edible but again, no flavor at ALL. Just so odd. Also....Shrimp quesadillas are listed as $56....we didn't order them as clearly that's not something they want to sell. I have no idea what the target is for this place, maybe it's trying to be a nightclub? But unless they change the menu or get an actual chef they are doomed as a restaurant. read more

What a great new gem in Ridgefield! We loved everything about it.... The eclectic decor, food, drinks and entertainment. Of course they are working out the service kinks... it's their first week open! But if the bar is set this high before the kinks are ironed out.... Wow! We ordered our dinner for take-out, so I can't speak to the ambiance or service. THE PRICES: Their prices are not what you'd expect from a typical restaurant. A simple Mexican Salad ($17) with grilled steak on top (another $13) - that's $30. I'm not sure a 5-star restaurant would charge $30 for a salad. We ended up ordering a Ceviche Baja California appetizer ($24) and Steak Fajitas ($29) main course. We wanted to give this new place a fair shake. We hoped for the best. Well... THE FOOD: I have ordered ceviche from restaurants all along the Northeast, but I have never seen a ceviche doused in tomato sauce. It defeated the whole point of ceviche - which is to be fresh and tangy. This was a shock and disappointment. Even if it had been half the price, it wasn't what ceviche should be. Also, it was a very skimpy portion. More sauce than seafood. The steak fajita? Someone in that kitchen must love tomato sauce. I've never seen thinner slices of steak - again, doused in red sauce. And where were the grilled veggies? I should have looked more closely at the menu: it does state "sauteed onions, corn, pepper and zucchini." But anyone ordering a fajita would expect grilled veggies, not sauteed in sauce. Maybe don't call it a "fajita" on the menu and it would be okay. Here again, a skimpy portion. I won't even talk about the rice / guacamole / sour cream / salsa that accompanied it. Zero rice and beans. I'll be honest: it pains me to be this harsh about a new place in the neighborhood. Maybe it's growing pains, as another reviewer noted. But the lackluster food combined with the eyebrow-raising prices doesn't give me much hope. read more

This is a long one - but there was A LOT to digest from this experience last night! I'm going to give 2 stars right now in hopes that the owners will see this and make some changes! My husband and I have been driving past this building for quite some time and were so excited for this place to open! However, we were wildly disappointed last night. We intended to stay for dinner, but ended up leaving and going elsewhere after 1 margarita each and the appetizer, which still all together cost us $35. I understand they've only been open for a couple of days, and I know there are going to be kinks to work out, so I'm hopeful - but didn't expect this level of discord. If things don't improve quite drastically very quickly I'm not sure how long this place will last. It really feels like they put all of their money, time, and efforts into the decor (from the painting on the wall right down to the headbands the female staff had to wear) instead of proper training of their staff and quality of their food, drinks, and service. It felt like it was the entire staffs first restaurant job and there was no one with any type of experience. We saw what we believed to be the manager here and there, but he seemed to really only be reprimanding about little things, not sure what his purpose really was. First impression when we walked in was great! The hostess was super sweet and the ambiance and decor was beautiful. We opted to sit at the bar for dinner instead of a table, which I'm glad we did because we saw a lot we wouldn't have. We weren't given menus when we sat down, just the Happy Hour menu, and saw there was a QR Code to scan for the dinner menu. We both scanned, and realized there's no service in this area so went to connect to wifi which requested a password. When we asked the bartender for the password she said their Wifi isn't working yet so they don't have one. So we requested an actual menu. It was about 10 minutes after this that we were finally asked if we would like to put anything in. We ordered 2 margaritas and the Queso Fundito. The margaritas were premade (never good) and they literally poured it out of a repurposed plastic chemical jug that had a hand sanitizer label on it still. We were shocked that something like that would be customer facing. Upon tasting the margarita we could tell that even though they may have premixed this it definitely was not with fresh lime juice, and it was the lowest quality tequila. Super sugary and will give you a nasty headache or hangover if you have more than one or 2! While waiting for the appetizer we noticed some other things - we were seated on the side of the bar that is up against the wall. This is the same pathway the service team uses and it's so narrow we were constantly having to duck and lean forward to get out of the way of trays of food. You can feel the floor flexing every time someone walks by and we felt like we were very much in the way. This area either should have 0 seating, or should not be a passthrough for the team. It was so beyond distracting to our conversation. We also noticed in this area every time the kitchen door opened we got a smell that reminded us of the public bathrooms in the NYC Subway system. Like a very cheap cleaning solution scent mixed with a dirty garbage disposal smell. Not appetizing. We also noticed how many people were behind the bar and all of the confusion that was going on. Every person was making their own drinks instead of a bar team handling it. There is also a blender on the top of the bar that they were running for frozen margaritas, also a very distracting thing to the ambiance, we were seated very close to this so we had to pause talking while they were running the blender. The staff behind the bar were very confused about working the register and didn't know what customer the food was going to every time it came out. When our queso finally came out the server came from behind us and it was in a very large bulky bowl. The server was extremely awkward in placing this down and placed it in front of me, and proceeded to take my plate and my utensils leaving me nothing to eat with. We rearranged (the plates and placemats are way too bulky for the tight bar area) but then realized we had no spoon to serve the queso with, so we had to ask. The queso itself was bland and expensive. It's not in a warming bowl so it coagulates very quickly making it super difficult to eat, and there was not much flavor at all. That's when we decided to call it, we didn't want to spend more money and become even more disappointed. I should also mention there were a group of 3 or 4 women sitting at the corner of the bar who had been asking for their food during this whole time as well. They had been waiting for an hour, were there before most other people sat down, and hadn't even been asked if they wanted their margaritas refilled. I've lived about 1/2 mile down from this location and have witnessed a number of restaurants fail. But Casa Lu is definitely set up for success and I am rooting for it. read more

Wanted to like enough to go back, and staff and service was fine, friendly and helpful. But I thought the prices were a bit high, $17 for guacamole (even if it is made to order) seems excessive to me (we did order it and it was good but no better than other restaurants or even mine). Mixed drinks were $14 and up, I LOVE margaritas but my drink was sour rather than tart and more ice than liquid...My husband's fish taco was excellent, I wasn't terribly hungry so had a salad with grilled chicken, chicken was way overcooked and the promised cheese, avocado, tomatoes could barely be found, basically a bowl of lettuce. We probably won't be back but will continue the quest for mexican! read more
