Stumbled upon this cute little place after going to the market next door. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and the patio was gorgeous with white lights. We walked up around 8pm on a Saturday and they were super friendly and seated us right away (without hesitation, even though they close at 830pm). There wasn't any music and the cook's music was soft enough for guest to relax, which is good after a long day of hiking The decor is a mix of the Sequoia National Park and Mexican culture. It is family friendly and wheelchair accessible. The food was below average Tex-Mex, definitely NOT "authentic" Mexican Cuisine. The chips were a mix of chili & salt and plain. The salsa and chips were just ok. Shrimp Cocktail was prepared with shrimp cooked in plain water and add catsup and other ingredients. My husband didn't like it. The fish taco was bland - it had no taste, the same with the green salsa on it. The tortillas used for the taco were stiff/hard. I ordered the green chili, dinner combination. I didn't like any of it. I really tried to keep an open mind, but it wasn't good. I did like the "agua fresca" de jamaica, but I think it was prepared from powder mix. They have. Super visible on Sierra Dr going up to the Sequioa's. It's one of those places that would easily be a choice option to eat because there isn't much else around. Luckily, it's a good spot. Friendly staff--we had a charming and hospitable server. They offer complimentary chips and salsa--and the salsa is tasty. Free refills on select sodas which is a huge plus after a long day of hiking--you get SO thirsty! They serve breakfast all day so I went with my go-to, Machaca--solidly palatable, with some additional visible onions and bell peppers. I don't think I've ever seen it served like that, but I enjoyed it. The Huz ordered off-menu: a burrito with shredded chicken, rice and beans, no sauce please (something that restaurants don't always get right)--and it was done with no issues and it was larger than we thought it would be. All of us enjoyed our entrees (all with a side of beans & rice). There is seating inside and outside on a patio. Because of the environment, there are flies buzzing around outside which can be off-putting, but once you sit and start flailing, they tend to hover a bit further away from you. LOL. Just be aware of them & keep swatting if they get near. It's fine. :-D Maybe the restaurant can get some kind of fly repellent, like candles or something? Stopped by here after a full day of hiking through the sequoia national forest, and it hit the spot! We had no clue what to expect and this Mexican restaurant is really a hidden gem! I had the carnitas plate and it was delicious, soft and tender but full of flavor. The wife had a Chile Relleno and enchilada combo also very delicious, my daughter ordered a bacon cheeseburger, and that was on point too! Service was fantastic, light and funny but very detailed and very thorough with our order. We sat outside just because it was such nice evening out, but they do offer both inside and outside seating. The food here was just ok. I would not recommend the cheese at all. It was grainy and didn't have a good after taste. There were 4 of us sharing and we didn't even eat half. The chips were good though. I got a tamale and a carne asada taco. Both were just ok. I would not go back to get either nor would I recommend them. A must stop for Three Rivers my only complaint is I wish they were open longer as it is hard to get good food in Three Rivers past 8 o'clock. Prices are very affordable and the quality is always the same, staff is super cool. They also offer Coke made in Mexico which is a huge plus for me! Don't let the lack of ambience fool you, this place has EXCELLENT food. The salsa that accompanies the tortilla chips is totally on point. I had the Carnitas plate. It can with Mexican rice, refried beans topped with cheese, guacamole and sides of cilantro, chopped onions and corn tortillas. My wife had the green enchiladas with chicken. Complete with rice and beans. The service was a little slow, but they appeared to be short handed, like many restaurants in the Covid era. There is seating inside and outside. Outdoor seating is really nice and soothing. Food: Salsa that came with chips is either canned or jarred. May be a hint of some fresh tomatoes mixed. Fajita plate was advertised to have mushroom and Zucchini. My plate came with 3 slices of mushroom penny size, few sprinkles of Zucchini penny size, and remaining plate was filled with undercooked bell peppers and lots of onions. Veggies tasted fresh at least so that was good. Beans also tasted and felt canned texture. Veggie burrito was weird, it had everything from veggie fajita. Burrito wrap also tasted stale. Rice was also stale and dry. The problem is there aren't many options around, so we might still end up here in future but I'm hoping we are more prepared so we don't have to. read more

Mexican food wasn't our first choice for the day, but we're glad we wound up here. I had the Chile verde enchiladas, rice and beans. The Chile verde was perfectly seasoned: spicy but not overly so. My wife had the beef flautas. The beef was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The shell was crisp and flaky. The portions were generous, and we just kept having "one more bite" until we were overly stuffed because it tasted so good! The complimentary chips were wonderful and had seasoning sprinkled on them and the salsa was mild, fresh, and flavorful. The waitress was friendly, attentive, and promptly brought us our drinks and chips. The food came out very quickly as well. We sat outside and the setting is quite nice. The only complaint is that the Mexican music over the outdoor speakers was a bit on the loud side, but that may have been because is was fairly close to our table. An elderly lady stepped out of the kitchen and addressed a small section of standing/waiting customers: "We are working as hard as we can, I don't wanna hear that it's taking too long ok??" Yikes. We had an out at this juncture but decided to press on with the order. As a whole, I'd have to combine everything for barely 3 stars. My boyfriend and I just had a wonderful meal at Casa Mendoza. We had the most amazing waitress, Danielle. She was so kind, quick, helpful, and full of amazing suggestions. For the food, we got the nachos without meat, mole enchiladas, and cheese enchiladas combo. Honestly, the portions were huge so you'd be fine just getting the entree and skipping an appetizer but the bachos were yummy. The cheese was monterey jack and they skipped the olives at our request. My favorite part of the meal was the enchilada sauce (red). Danielle said they had received hotter pepper than they usually have which resulted in a slightly spice enchilada sauce which was a MAJOR plus for me because I love spicy. I highly recommend them and the next time we come to Sequoia, we will probably come here! read more

Good food with small mountain town vibes. If they're slammed, don't complain about service. It's phenomenally difficult to find enough workers in Three Rivers because, again, SMALL mountain town. It's not the big city, so expecting big city service will only ruin your good time. Be patient and kind, and you'll love this place.
