Went here for dinner tonight, and it is a very calm, relaxing environment to sit with a friend, enjoy some oysters and drinks, and have an altogether great time. The oysters I got were the Virginia Wilds, which I believe come from the James River. They were buttery and almost sweet in taste. The oysters themselves were of good quality, and they came with plenty of fixings. The Brussels sprouts were also delicious! I'm not sure I'd order them again if I went, but I wanted to try a few things since it was my first time going. The whiskey sour I had was well-made, and our server was fantastic! Month's back, I've heard about this place by watching a local news segment for Friday Flavors. If you're not aware of the backstory, it was a former gas station that was out of business for years until a couple (who are both trained chefs) turned it into a small restaurant that opened up a year ago. With many good reviews on Yelp, local coverage on both TV and in print and a Coastal Virginia award in its pocket, let's just say I had to try it out for myself to see if it lives up to the hype. Walking inside, you're immediately greeted by the hostess and in front of you are a display of spirits on the right side and a bar where you see the chefs whip up food in the back along with a few seats (probably seating between 30-40 people). Definitely a nice sight to make you feel welcomed. Once our party got seated, we ordered food after a few minutes. Most of us ordered tacos (with one person ordering hush puppies and chargrilled oysters which she really enjoyed) so I'll just break down my meal: -Oyster po-boy taco consisting of fried oysters, Napa cabbage, jalapeno, tomatillo salsa verde and remoulade. Talk about delicious!! From the crunch of the fried oysters to the tomatillo salsa, this one was a winner. Being from Louisiana, you would see fried oysters in a French baguette topped with lettuce tomatoes, mayo and cheese. But the soft taco replaced the baguette here and I'm a-OK with that!! I did taste a hint of lime even though I didn't squeeze any on my tacos, but it was probably the salsa. -Fried chicken taco consisting of fried chicken, pimento cheese slaw, B&B pickles and garlic aioli. I thought for a minute the oyster po-boy taco would be the winner here, but I was so mistaken. This one here was a complete home run. Kind of messy because of the slaw along with some spice (I believe this was Casa Pearl's own brand of hot sauce which you can find on every table), but so so good!!! Probably one of the best tacos I've ever eaten. Overall, this visit was a blast. Williamsburg truly has a hidden gem here. Come here if you can. You will not be disappointed. read more

I love this place and will be coming back often! Oysters and Tacos who ever thought of this might be a genius or they know me very well. We were greeted with a lovely waitress who had plenty of recommendations upon request. We started with 3 types of oysters with 2 of them being from the local area. First time here, but already ready to dish out the 5 stars! Well, maybe 4.5 due to the onion heavy recipes, but that's just my nitpick. We came here on a Thursday and got a seat right away. However, soon after it filled up. The atmosphere is casual, maybe a tad claustrophobic, and the staff is friendly. We had the hush puppies and Brussels sprouts followed by a fried chicken taco for me (yep, fried chicken) and a pork taco for my lady. We tend to avoid sea food, but a lot of folks were downing oysters like they were free candy. All food was fantastic. Full flavor, hot, and well portioned. We've been here twice plus once for take out because my husband is a fan. The first time was my favorite, although I thought the halibut tasted kind of odd. Not that it wasn't fresh, I just didn't care for the seasoning on it. I loved my Asian salad the first time but the second time it fell flat. Not enough dressing maybe? The second time I got two fried oysters on top and they were delicious, so fresh, but again, the salad was bland...oh well. My husband likes the po boy tacos and the fish tacos. He doesn't think the mahi tastes weird so take your pick on who to believe. Brussels sprouts are better without the cheese. Ceviche is wonderful. Kids love the pork tacos. The service is very good. Worth it to come, but not sure I'm going to continue to be a repeat offender unless I'm really craving the ceviche and a fried oyster. read more

Casa Pearl is all about flavor, and that shows through every single dish. I came here for a work lunch and it wasn't slammed. All of our food came out quickly. We ordered all of the snacks to share. My favorites were the Chips & Dip and Smoked Fish Dip. I was worried that pimento cheese with the Chips & Dip would be too much for the chicharrones, but it was so light and had a great barbecue chip-style flavor. The Fried Plantains were also a big hit at the table. I ended up spreading some of the sambal crema on my hush puppies. We also had the Brussels sprouts, which I initially turned my nose to because they are my least favorite vegetable. I am now a sprouts stan, solely because Casa Pearl prepares them in the most incredible way. There's a fantastic acidity and the dish also includes shaved parmesan in capers. After all of that, I was pretty full so I only ordered one taco. I chose the Oyster Po Boy taco, which also had a fantastic acidity in the cabbage. The oyster pieces were fried perfectly and didn't get soggy despite being under the cabbage and salsa. The remoulade with the oyster gave me big Louisiana vibes. read more

We ordered the fried plantains and hush puppies for appetizers, which were both amazing and large portions. Then he had the fried chicken and pork tacos and I had a fish taco. The tacos were really big and pretty good but not anything too special. We had a couple of cocktails which we thought were a bit pricey but overall good. My first visit, on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The cocktail list is impressive but we stuck with iced tea and a beer, heading for other activities. It's a calming, attractive place in a converted gas station, on the Edge (it's a tourism label) of Colonial Williamsburg. Small, wood and metal decor. There's an outdoor patio that is below the busy road surface. Not scenic, but not noisy. Food was stylish in presentation and well prepared. Our server was excellent, unobtrusive and helpful. I had a fish taco and Brussels sprouts in a lemon caper vinaigrette, my favorite dish and prepared perfectly, crisp, well seasoned, so good I wanted to lick the plate. The taco was okay, not huge but filling, not a stand-out in flavor but fresh and good. I have been spoiled by Southern California versions in beachfront dives. My friend had a white gazpacho special which was plated with style from a small flask with all the garnishes in an attractive crescent on the side of the soup bowl. She enjoyed it. She also had hush puppies with honey butter, tasty, though I'm not a big fan of hush puppies. Good crust, moist interior and fried without excess grease. The oyster menu looked tempting for another visit and seemed a popular choice. It's a tapas, small plate kind of place, fun for a group to taste and share. Our fellow diners were prosperous looking older couples but it was a Sunday late lunch time frame. A young dad came in with two excited little girls as we left, asking for tacos. This is a long overdue review for our co-favorite restaurant in Williamsburg, a place we have visited frequently through the years partly via affiliation to W&M. There is one other long-time favorite restaurant, and a few years ago it was the chef/owner there who told us to try Casa Pearl, where he goes on his nights off. We've had many occasions to be grateful for this advice. Had an early dinner on Friday evening during the busy Christmas season in Williamsburg. No wait for a table at 6:00, but folks were waiting when we got done. The crowd appears to be mostly locals, not tourists, always a great sign especially in this town. I love the ambiance of this place - busy and lively, nicely low-lit, casual, fun. I bet the patio is great in warmer weather. Our server, Jade, was terrific - super efficient, and funny and friendly, stopping to chat even as she got busier. (Asked Jade if she has any other favorite restaurants in the area. No. This is the only place she will eat out because the food is so fresh, and the kitchen is so clean.) Every bite was delicious. Everything is super fresh and bursting with flavor. We had the ceviche, smoked fish dip, fish taco, po' boy taco, and a salad. Every. single. bite was good. And the key lime dessert is fabulous. I don't even love key lime pie but this? Light, zesty, creamy. Good. So, we decided there was no reason to go anyplace else on Saturday, and went straight back to Casa Pearl, and sat in Jade's section and enjoyed talking with her some more, and had a few more wonderful things, and declared it the best part of our whole weekend. read more

First, always happy to support a local business even when traveling. Too, I can be more than a little picky, but found few things to complain about here. Spoiler alert: we liked it SO much, we ate there twice during our short stay in Williamsburg, once for lunch and then again for dinner. Blew off reservations at another place to return. The atmosphere was cool and clean, sleek. The margarita was very good, loved the way the salt was on the side of the glass so you could have as much as you wanted , the only minor criticism was it seemed a little slight on the pour, but it was balanced out some by the cost and quality of the food. Service was kind and efficient. We really liked Andy, he was especially good. All the food we had was really good, especially liked the raw oysters, fried oyster tacos and the peel and eat shrimp. The whole fish a nearby table ordered to share at dinner looked wonderful! It's a small menu, but it's more than enough choices. Owner on site both visits. I'm a beach boy so Gringos by the ocean front in va beach is almost always number 1 for a fish taco ... not a lot of fish taco spots in the burg so this one doesn't have much competition .... The tacos have a decent flavor but the fish is lost behind the sauce and toppings .... the hush puppies are average until you add the sweet butter then they have a great salty sweet mixture ... I tried an old fashioned as a drink ... it was a bit strong for my taste but I'm not a big drinker so there ya go .... Wow! It is so refreshing to have an original here in Williamsburg. These guys are serving up some mean tacos that are full of fresh ingredients. Their hush puppies are barking hot and the butter that comes with them just melts. It is sooo good. We got one of each oyster and they were all delicious but my favorite by far was the colonial. The oyster taco is crunchy and the shaved jalapeño gives it the best kick. I cannot wait to go back and try something else. I did not get a chance to try the drinks but I did spy a couple of local beers including the keep Virginia beautiful which is from Va Beer Company which is down the street. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. The ample natural light lets the dining room feel open and welcoming. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try. read more

Our family visited Williamsburg Busch Gardens from Washington DC, and we stopped by for dinner at Casa Pearl. We love seafood. We sat on the patio with our dog, and this place delivered class A+ atmosphere, and a great variety of seafood. The shrimp toast appetizer with shrimp farse with a soy aioli sauce and a creamy hot sauce was incredible and so detailed with beauty. Whole fish with brussel sprouts were yummy. The server was knowledgeable and funny. This place really had passion for their crafted menu, and it showed. We had a fun and relaxing evening, and will always come back when in town. Second time I have been there. The wait staff is friendly. The recommendation on the food and drinks was amazing. I have never had ceviche and I wanted to try to something I have never had before. It was light tender and you could taste everything. I was worried it would be one flavor and acidic. Not the case. The hush puppies are total comfort food.
