Just made the drive from Tucson to get German food in Catalina. Loved this very clean and bright little restaurant. The menu covered all the expected German foods. We had schnitzel, jaeger schnitzel, spaetzle, red cabbage, marinated salad and German beer. Dessert was rum cake and a cloud light apple cake called struzzle. We heard about this odd combination "German Mexican" restaurant in Catalina AZ. Well WTF let's check it out. What an amazing experience. Jose and his wife have poured their hearts into this place and you can FEEL it and TASTE it! We all ordered German food (including my German GF) and everything was great. If you want to get totally ignored, this is the place for you. Stopped in for dinner at 5pm and there were two other tables occupied. Sat for 20 minutes, during which time the owner walked past us multiple times. He was waiting tables and absolutely refused to acknowledge us. Our friends tried to get his attention, but he stayed in the back of the house. One of the other tables was getting upset by the lack of service. After 10 more minutes,, we walked across the parking lot to Bubb's Grub and enjoyed the great food and service. I wanted to go there for dinner the other day with my service dog because I'm handicap and they refused me. Service was very poor. Felt ignored when waiting for the bill. Finally had to walk up to the counter. My sauerbraten was terribly dry with a small amount of rotkohl but ample spatzle. This is the second time we've experienced this. The waitress tried to convince me that the Apple Strudel dessert was accurate when all it was was a piece of cake with some apples on it. Having lived in Germany, I do know what apple strudel should be. One time we even walked out after waiting over a half hour for our food. So sorry, but this has bothered me for a day. The owners are lovely people. The atmosphere is cordial. The restaurant is clean. The food tastes good. I will not spend my gasoline to drive from my home in Tucson to go back. I ordered Chile rojo (chili rojo). The quantity of entree (the chili) was sparse on the plate. I had perhaps 3 one inch cubes of beef, maybe 5 one-half cubes of beef, and the rest was cubes of potato. Hey, I put potato in my tacos sometimes. I don't mind that. What I DO mind is the lack of meat. If they were low on the entree, they should have told me and suggested that I select something else. I support local businesses, so I feel sad to post this review. Great local restaurant serving Mexican and German Food! Been hoping for a German Restaurant to open up somewhere in the Tucson area and I'm glad to have found Casa Ramirez! The day I went for lunch (day before Thanksgiving) I was expecting it to be busy but to my surprise it wasn't. I was immediately greeted by the owner and seated. I ordered the Jager Schnitzel with spaetzle and two Hoffbrau Larger Beers. While waiting for my meal I looked around and enjoyed the atmosphere. It's a nice mix representing both Mexican and German and nice German music was playing in the background. The food is made fresh so it takes some time to cook and arrive at your table. My Schnitzel was cooked to perfection and the spaetzle was tender and tasty with the Jager sauce on top. The prices for the German food are slightly pricey but well worth the price especially seeing how this is the only place within 80+ miles serving German food. We were out shopping and saw this newish restaurant, I gather they've been open about 3-4 months. We were there right as they opened and interior was SPOTLESS & had a lovely light feeling, lots of white, which was a refreshing break from the standard Mexican colors. The owner was there, Mr. Ramirez was gracious and easy going. We ordered two combos, 1 beef taco trio - they were cool and let me do ground on 2 and shredded on the other. Hubs ordered the combo with Chile Relleno & Picadillo. He loved his, mine was basic but fresh and clearly homemade. Loved the fresh chips, the variety of homemade salsas and the sides of beans and rice were simple & tasty. We heard that they've got Schnitzel on, I think, Weekends? The owner lived in Germany for 9 years and I am looking forward to some schnitzel with German sides (kuchen!). Service was relaxed and we enjoyed our food and the fun of meeting the small business owner who works the business, with his co-owner/wife. Tried the Mexican food. They give you a small bowl of chips and a smaller bowl of salsa. It's not enough salsa for the chips let alone your meal. When you ask for more salsa it's an extra charge for a thimble full of it. The food has very little spice and flavor. Should have been our first sign when no one else in the place. Jose's wife learn learned how to cook German food when they lived in Germany, and it is fantastic. We gave it a try last night and both parties had the Jagerschnitzel MIT Spätzle. It was outstanding. German Food - I Forgot how good it tastes! That is why we were so intrigued by Casa Ramirez offering German Food on Saturday night. WAIT! Before you say German food in a Mexican Restaurant - no way, understand the owners learned to cook German when they were stationed in Germany. Currently, German food is only served on Saturdays. We went with another couple, this past Saturday evening. We arrived during happy hour. The other couple had Margaritas and I had a beer. Yes, they have a few German beers. We all ordered a German dinner which consisted of a German pickled salad, Jaeger Schnitzel and dessert. We all enjoyed the salad which had a number of different vegetables pickled just enough so that the vegetable flavor wasn't lost. It had cucumbers, red cabbage, beets, and carrots. Then the Schnitzel came and was worth waiting for. The pork cutlet was very tender, the breading was perfect, not so thick that it was only bread, not so thin that it was absent. The breading is essential to help hold the sauce which is very tasty. It is a mushroom cream sauce that works perfectly with the pork flavors. (NOTE: The schnitzel is also available without sauce) Finally, dessert. The desserts are homemade. Two of us had Rum Cake and two had Plum Cake. Note the Plum Cake is a seasonal dish. I went by for lunch today and to finally try Casa Ramirez. I was very happy with my experience. The owner and staff were cheerful and professional. The waitress took my drink order right away, then brought it salsa and fresh-made, warm tortilla chips. You have a choice of mild or hot salsa.The mild salsa had a little bit of warmth (spicy) but not too much. Based on recommendations from the waitress and the owner, I ordered the taco salad. I chose the ground beef over the chicken since I prefer ground beef. The taco salad came in a house-made shell/bowl that was nicely crisp and not greasy. Inside they layered refried beans, rice, lettuce, sauteed bell peppers (red, orange and yellow), their ground beef taco meat, cheese, tomatoes, sliced black olives, sour cream, guacamole and decorated with some thinly sliced jalapenos (see photo). The taco meat was nicely seasoned, not greasy and I especially loved the addition of the bell peppers to the salad. I'm not a dainty eater and my stomach was definitely empty when I started eating (no breakfast this morning) but I couldn't finish the whole thing, so I feel like the portion size was generous.
