The main reason I have giving this restaurant even two stars is that the service was good. The food, however, was not. They call themselves the House of Schnitzel, and yet they have no clue how to make a good one. It was thin, flavorless, and tough. The potato pancakes were flavorless and greasy. Their goulash soup looked like dishwater with some vegetables and tough meat thrown in. And, they are extremely expensive. If you're looking for good German food, you won't find it here. This place is one of my favorites in Sierra Vista and is superior to angry german cafe. The waitress with the red hair and the german accent will leave you with a smile as she is always super helpful and makes the best looking german chocalate cake I have ever seen. So their snitzel is fabulous! I always get thr swizz version with the ham and eggs. Best dish there. They have horse radish, mustard and kraut and do not skip on these essentials as the enzymes break down the meat and gravy in the stomach. Germans know body design like cars. Wonderfully delicious and authentic German food. I chose the Jägerschnitzel. The pork slice was perfectly crispy and wonderfully tender, covered in delicious brown gravy. It is nice to be able to choose which sides to have; but difficult due to numerous great choices. I settled for the traditional German cucumber salad, and the shredded beets. Both were great. Because I just couldn't to go without the traditional warm German potato salad; I ordered it as an additional side. It did not let me down! As others have commented, the portions are generous, so the extra side of potato salad was perfect and provided me a full meal of leftovers. I must say they were equally delicious the next day. Great service, attentive without being intrusive or annoying. Nice, clean restaurant and employees. Good German restaurants are not easy to find and I will certainly be back to this one on my upcoming visits to Sierra Vista. read more

We went here with family for my sons birthday. The waitresses were absolutely amazing and we loved their German dresses. The food was delicious and from what my in-laws said, also authentic. It felt like we were invited to dine in a true German family home, as they served us on mixed glass-wear and they allowed us to use the "back room," or "party room" due to the number of us. It felt very comfortable and cute. Food arrived in a fair time (neither short or long time). Fresh tasting and hot. I got the tea and it came with a cookie and was in a cute little teacup with a saucer. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and want to go back again as soon as we can make it back over there! The food is delicious and the portions are huge, in fact they are so huge that you can get two meals from one dinner entree. My only complaint is that with portions that large, you need a large to-go box and all they had were little flimsy plastic containers that only contain only half of my leftovers. When I asked for a second container, a 50 cent charge was added to my bill. If that's not a cheap trick, I don't know what is! Next time I'm bringing my own to-go box. The servers are excellent, food came out in a timely fashion, and like I said, it's a huge portion. I had the Zeiben schnitzel with two bread dumplings and red cabbage. The parking lot shares a small number of spaces to park. Capacity: The restaurant is that of a small capacity, maybe 50 to 65 people. There are only a few spaces that fit 8 to 10 people at a time. The remaining tables only account for 4 people. The ambiance is that of a German setting with the large glasses and portraits on the wall. I only observed seating on the interior side of the restaurant. Discovery: I was advised of this restaurant via my classmates. I observed the yelp reviews, which was 4 stars out of approximately over 320 reviews and decided to check this restaurant out. Currently, this restaurant has 4 stars with 326 Yelp reviews. Initial service: We walked into a small hallway, which leads into the open dinning area, and we were greeted by nice staff, who advised that we could seat wherever. The waitress was professional, and we received our drinks in a timely manner. A short time later, the waiter received our dinner orders. Food: The food arrived within 20 minutes. The presentation of the food was adequate. The portion of the food was adequate, and the quality was good. The food was amazingly good. We had no complaints Alcohol: I did not try the alcohol that they had at the business. Orderly: The restaurant appeared to be clean. I did not observe the male bathrooms. Price: With the food I ordered, the bill was approximately $20 Grievance: None. Recommendation of business: I would recommend this business to people who want to try good German food. We visited on a weeknight, after the main supper rush, so fortunately, there wasn't much competition for table service. The downside of the service was that the four of us had to ask for seemingly "everything" no matter how very obvious, right down to getting empty water glasses refilled. The food wasn't particularly noteworthy either way, for the most part. But, after nearly five years stationed in Deutschland, I can say sincerely that their späetzle wouldn't be on my a-list based on this visit. The side of rotenkraut, red cabbage, surprisingly small, and the pommes frites didn't have that authentic German "fresh-cut" potato flavor and mouth feel to them. All in, 20-20 hindsight, my mistake was in setting a high bar in hopes of getting a meal like so many I loved back in Bavaria. Sorry, friends, next time, I'll pass. read more

The good: Parking is available and allows for easy access to the restaurant. Bathrooms are on site (1 male, 1 female; unsure if there is a changing table). Booster seats and high chairs available (all clean and in good working order-- parents know how rare this is). Staff was incredibly pleasant and knowledgeable. Very open layout that allows for easy seating for groups of 4 or more. We went as a group of 7 (4 of the 7 kids ranged from 2-11 years of age). We were able to be seated immediately. The kids were provided with reusable plastic cups with lids. Straws were reusable as well. I really liked the cups and straws as they were super sturdy. I had the Reuben with thousand island. I love Reubens. And this was probably the best Reuben I have ever had. The sauerkraut and corned beef were fresh. The bread was toasted and flavorful. I was very happy with my meal. I tasted the cabbage-- it was new to me but enjoyable. I stole a little bit of the two year old's bratwurst and it was divine. Serving sizes were aligned with the reasonable pricing. We all left full and satisfied. The bad: That same open layout means that it's very loud. It was easier to hear the folks behind us than it was to hear people at our table. To consider: We arrived at 1230 on a Saturday and seemed to beat the rush. People that came in 15-20 min after us were told that food would take 45 minutes. They have an extensive menu of authentic German dishes we had a hard time choosing, we wanted everything! The dishes we chose are all pictured below. The food here is stellar. The schnitzel was perfectly breaded and fried, and the pork cutlet was free of any gristle. The sauces were flavorful with generous portions. The sides were all great too! For desert we shared a piece of the German Chocolate cake (pictured). We have never seen cake served with whipped cream on the *bottom*. Wow! The place is spotless and very quaintly decorated. This will be a destination for us every time we go through Sierra Vista on our way to Ramsey Canyon or the Coronado Monument. Loved it! read more

Excellent European Food We were in Sierra Vista one day to visit the military fort and wanted something unique for lunch so we stopped by The German Cafe. It's on the end of a strip and is very cozy inside. We were there just after noon and there were maybe 4 other tables with diners so service was excellent. We both had iced teas that were refreshing on that hot day. My wife ordered the Schnitzel Lunch Sandwich with came with fries and cole slaw. I ordered a bowl of the Hungarian Goulash Soup that came with a slice of garlicky grilled bread. The pork on the Schnitzel Sandwich was perfectly cooked - moist and fried just right. The cole slaw is oil vinegar dressed with bacon and onion. We loved it. My Goulash was perfect with nice amounts of pork, potato and other vegetables. An excellent flavor with plenty of paprika, which may have contributed to just a little spice kick. The grilled garlic bread was a nice addition. The other diners clearly had been there before as they all saved room for cake which we found out is one of their most popular items, but we had to pass on it this time. For a change from southwest menus, try The German Cafe to escape to Europe for awhile. read more

9/23/21: Guten appetit! Took my son here for dinner because he's stationed here for a bit and wanted something different. This establishment was a winning decision. Reminded me of time spent working and playing in Germany. Nice sized crowd eating during our visit. Staff members are very polite and made me feel like I was in Kaiserslautern. Ordered Weinerschnitzels, Jagerschnitzel, potato salad, sauerkraut, garlic mashed potatoes. Yummy! The food was absolutely delightful and nicely portioned. Flavors hit the palette just right. We stopped here for dinner our second night in town. Overall it was very good, coming from someone who was raised on German food. My take on it - Potato pancakes- very good. Nice and crispy. Bratwurst- cooked perfectly, nicely seasoned. The potatoes were great, the sauerkraut excellent. The zweibel schnitzel was really good. The cucumber salad great. The Hawaiian schnitzel was very good, potato salad off the hook and coleslaw outstanding The Gypsy schnitzel was great, good flavor. The spetzel was perfect. The only downside was the red cabbage. Our group of four ate here yesterday and had a delightful experience. We were seated immediately at a large table with my large German Shepherd service dog - happily. The service was prompt and "over-the-top" friendly and welcoming. The wait for our dinners was comfortable and the food was fabulous. Hello, fellow Yelpers!! I am out sampling more cuisine in the Sierra Vista, AZ area. Decided I would tackle this German restaurant tonight. Very small and quaint, this cafe is a Mom & Pop type establishment. Yes, there are mismatched tables and chairs, but that has never deterred me before. I had zero wait and was sat immediately. Waitress was very sweet and gave great service the entire time I was there. And this place was spic and span clean! I wanted to love this place more, but I found a few problems I cannot excuse. For the good points: the chilled cucumber salad is very good. So is their iced tea. I am in agreement that they do make a very good schnitzel and the Swiss style is a fun play with ham, Swiss cheese, and two over easy eggs on top. They use reusable silverware and straws - very environmentally conscious! Now the bad. If you use a microwave in a restaurant that is supposed to serve fresh authentic food to order, I agree with Gordon Ramsay - shame on you! How does this impact the food?? Well in the case of the potato pancakes, they were doughy in the center from the reheating - they were overdone to begin with on the edges. Microwave makes those overdone edges so hard and crisp you almost can break a tooth on it!! Microwave reheating the schnitzel also adversely impacted it by making it drier than it should have been. Big disappointment for me. The saving Hail Mary throw came in the form of the German chocolate cake. That cake was moist, delicious, and not overly sweet!! Definitely the star of the show and the reason I didn't tank another star off the score (besides the fact that the place is super clean and I had a very attentive waitress). Please note that I didn't try the spaetzle to determine if it would have the same issues as the potato pancakes. But if I could change ONE thing above all else, I would get rid of the microwave and stick to true fresh made-to-order cooking. We tried it because it is so highly rated and even is included as one the best Arizona restaurants. Small dining room but just nice, like eating at a friend's house. The staff was welcoming and friendly. I started w the pretzel and then I had the Jagerschnitzl along w spetzle. The pretzel was great. I would have liked a good German mustard to go along with it, however the cheese sauce was good. The schnitzel was just ok, it didn't have much flavor and the mushroom gravy was bland. The spetzle was good. They had a long list of desserts, which sounded good but only a couple are made in house. The night I was there, they had no strudel which I would expect at a German restaurant. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is the lack of German beer. Or any beer for that matter. My understanding is the city of Sierra Vista isn't very business friendly when it comes to liquor licenses, hence the lack of adult beverages. The sausages and schnitzel were prepared well - schnitzel was particularly crisp. Sides included Saeurkraut and some sort of potato mixture - had good flavor, although sauerkraut may be strong for someone who has never had it before.
