At this point in time my visits to Atlantic City, NJ are few and very far between. However, with that being said my retired parental units from down south had made a trip based on an amazing promotion that they found and would be staying in the Tropicana Hotel and Casino. Though I don't usually join them on these jaunts the need for some family time was present and I was able to get a ticket for the bus that leaves from my area fairly quick and easy. I'm in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and the ride is about two hours give or take depending on traffic. Once I arrived and having caught up for a few minutes we decided to get some lunch. My early start found me only having one of those Carnation Breakfast drinks on the bus. There were a few interesting options to enjoy but Mom suggested Casa Taco and I'm not one to argue since I love Mexican food myself. The downside was that they were not yet serving lunch so breakfast it was. We all kept it simple and ordered the "Two Eggs with Meat" listing on the menu. I had scrambled eggs with sausages and my folks the same but with a differently prepared egg. A steaming cup of coffee and orange juice complimented the order. The restaurant was clean and very open in terms of layout and while I didn't catch our servers name she was very friendly and brought our orders out as quick as it was possible. At the end there wasn't a scrap on my plate but like I said I was hungry. So if you find yourself in the Tropicana down in Atlantic City, NJ this is a good recommendation from me. I cannot say when or if I will be back here because I like to try different places whenever I visit somewhere but only time will tell. read more

This restaurant is in the marketplace area of the Tropicana. I wish I had come here sooner. They have the food displayed behind glass cases right by the entrance so that's cool. You can also see the Tequila selection they have as well. Rows and rows of it. The bar shelves are glass windows behind them so you can actually see the bottles walking by from the outside. There's a large seating area in the front and back and they have outdoor seating as well when it's appropriate. The food was delicious and the service was good. I'm going to add this to the list of go to places to eat in AC. read more

Just Okay I found this place to be just okay overall. I ordered the pork belly, which came with pineapple chunks and a sweet sauce. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be spicy, but it definitely wasn't. The pork itself was tender, but the sweetness overpowered the dish and didn't let much of the actual pork flavor come through. The tostones were good, and I really enjoyed the sauce that came with them. The place is small, and while the servers were friendly, they weren't very attentive. Overall, the whole experience wasn't really something memorable or something I would travel all the way back to Atlantic City for. read more

Pay close attention to your receipt if you ordering take out. They have extra charges on there. The staff tip is also listed on there as well. That's why I may go to them once a year as a treat just for the empanadas. But now the empanadas are starting to taste mediocre like it was taken from the freezer. This place was good years ago. We went here as my wife wanted to check out the Tropicana as she stayed at the property. We were still full from lunch, but we ordered the guacamole with crab $25 dollars. Since we had rewards, we decided the why not. We then ordered the tortilla soup. It was pretty heavy and definitely will fill you up. The only issue was that soup was very salty and hard for us to finish. The amount of crab they gave us for $9 dollars was very tiny like one of those tiny sauce container. It was a total ripoff. The service was good as we did get the chips and salsa. The chips were overdone, but I enjoyed the salsa though. Would I go here again, I probably go to another restaurant. read more

While in AC for a bachelorette party, we stopped by here for lunch. It was 230 pm so it wasn't that crowded or hard to get a table for 10. We ordered a bunch of drinks - the spicy skinny marg was really good. They make their fresh guacamole tableside - it was a decent portion. We ordered two for the table and that was plenty. We asked for one to be medium with jalapenos and one to be mild without jalapenos - both came out mild and not sure either had jalapenos. The guac was tasty but the one bowl of chips we got must have been from the bottom of the barrel since they were all broken tiny pieces. Had to wait a while to flag down our server to get new ones. For our entrees, several of us ordered tacos and two ordered quesadillas. The tacos were a generous size - I got the shrimp tacos with a side of chipotle mayo. They were pretty good - I was full after 2. We had 3 people with gluten allergies at the table - the servers had some difficulty keeping the orders straight when they brought the food out. The service was outstanding for my dinner of beef enchiladas, rice and beans with chips and salsa. The taste of the entire dinner was among the best Mexican food I've had and that includes my time in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico! Could see this place definitely getting busier during evenings/happy hour. I was in the mood for nachos. This place had them, as well as some mezcal drinks, so I decided to check it out. Was initially concerned when the nachos came, as they looked drenched in crema. They were delicious. The chips were made fresh and came with sides of pico de gallo, poblano peppers and freshly made guac. I can usually take guac or leave it. This time I definitely took it. It was so good, I was eating it straight out of the little tub at one point. The peach mezcal margarita was very good, albeit a little heavy on the ice. Ordered the nachos with ground beef on the second visit. While the beef was seasoned, it was too much--like a half pound of meat just dumped on top of the nachos. read more

In AC staying at the Trop and decided to try this place in their boardwalk area. Pretty busy during summer months ... so we walked around for a bit and got a drink at another place a few spots down while we waited. We were eventually seated in their back room ... where we were the ONLY people in this fairly larger and brighter room (with view of the actual Boardwalk). It was very odd ... as no one else joined us back there until we were almost done our meals. The waitress was also MIA for most of the time (though we couldn't really blame her as all her other tables were out front) and we had to wait many times for her to come back in order to get some things we were missing or wanted. As a whole, the food and drinks were ok ... but definitely a bit pricey for what we got and not sure it was worth over $200 (all said and done). We has some margaritas ($15-$18), guacamole ($15), chicken quesadilla ($15), carne asada ($38), a chicken burrito ($18), and steak tacos ($17).
