We sat outside in the beautiful new patio area, which features a lovely water fountain, gorgeous Mexican tile, & stunning furniture. We started with a complementary basket of warm, fresh chips and a very spicy salsa, along with a side of freshly made guacamole that was incredibly creamy and flavorful. Unfortunately, the meal went downhill from there. This famous restaurant has a rich history--helped made famous by actor Marlon Brando and even featured in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood--so my expectations were high. We ordered a Carne Asada wet burrito with chicken added. When it arrived, it was incredibly soggy, and the chicken inside had a watery texture & the steak was extremely overcooked. We flagged down our waiter, who was very polite and understanding, and asked to exchange it for a burrito with grilled chicken breast instead of the wet chicken. While the second burrito was an improvement, the beef was still very overcooked and underseasoned, and the chicken completely lacked flavor. The drinks were also a letdown. We started with a guava drink that had literally no alcohol in it and tasted like watered-down lemonade with no guava flavor at all. We had to order a second drink and a beer just to get something decent. Our bill came out to a whopping $98. For that price, the portions were painfully small, and you can definitely find better quality elsewhere. Also service was painfully slow...While I appreciate how clean the restaurant was and how sweet our waiter was, the only thing that truly stood out was the fresh guacamole. It was a pretty disappointing and underwhelming experience, and I'm honestly questioning if I'll ever go back.

I've been coming here for almost 30 years. My friends all wanted to try the new patio so we came here for a friend's birthday. We had tableside guacamole and it was great!! Juan Carlos was our server and was very attentive and nice! I did have an issue with one of my dishes but Thomas took care of it right away as did JC. They brought the birthday girl a flan for dessert! Weather was perfect. Highly recommend it!

Honestly, what is all the fuss about? Why so many negative reviews about this place? I have been here twice before, many years ago. Tonight was my third time dining here since my son and I decided to go out for dinner. It really hit the spot after not having Mexican food for a very long time. We walked in on a Friday night with no reservations and were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was already busy and they still had many reservations coming in. I was very uncomfortable and didn't like the corner table we were given at first, but Patrick was able to accommodate us right away and gave us a new table that was much better. Jorge was our server and he was cordial and professional. You can tell he knows his job and the menu well. Johnathan brought our food and kindly took our pictures for us. The complimentary chips and salsa came out first and I will agree with other reviews that the chips were kind of stale. The salsa was delicious. I ordered the Lobster Enchiladas that came with a Tomatillo Sauce, rice/refried beans and a side of sour cream & guacamole ($32). It was absolutely delicious and a very filling portion. I asked for light sauce and got exactly that. They also didn't skimp on the amount of lobster. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and barely have any leftovers for tomorrow. My son ordered the Pollo Asado plate and although he liked it, he said he wouldn't have ordered it if he knew it was going to be a bone-in half chicken plate. It doesn't say that on the menu. His also came with a tomatillo sauce, rice/beans and a side of sour cream/guacamole, with 3 corn tortillas. ($30) You can always ask for flour as well. They have a full bar here and the drinks are EXCELLENT! I had a Frozen Coconut Margarita ($18) which was PERFECTION!!! So silky, smooth, DELICIOUS! I was about to lick the glass clean. My son had the Guava Margarita ($18) and loved it as well. Very well balanced and I also thought it was great and I don't even like Guava. Again, I don't know why there are so many bad reviews! We had a very nice experience and would come back in the future. It's a very clean, charming, pretty, and fun place with good energy, good food, and good drinks. What's not to like? Valet parking/street parking. Bathrooms were also very clean!!

I won't be supporting Casa Vega after seeing how they treated a customer who posted a fair and honest review about her experience with the food. Instead of responding professionally, owner Christy, along with Robert Haleblian and Bill Esparza (@streetgourmetla), chose to publicly attack her and other commenters with insults and inflammatory accusations - calling her a "dumba**" and saying her partner "se*ually abuses" her. A restaurant is free to disagree with criticism, but bullying customers, encouraging online pile-ons, and resorting to personal attacks is completely unacceptable. Hospitality extends beyond what's served on a plate, it's also about how you treat people. One negative review should never trigger this kind of behavior. If a business cannot handle constructive feedback respectfully, that's a major red flag. The way this situation was handled was far more concerning than any complaint about the food itself. I expect professionalism, accountability, and basic decency from a business I support, and unfortunately Casa Vega failed on all three.

Casa Vega holds a special place in my heart, having been a loyal patron for 30 years. I have countless wonderful memories here, including moments when Ray Vega himself would stop by our table for a friendly chat. However, after a two-year absence, my recent visit to celebrate Mother's Day with my mom was disappointing. We arrived in the late afternoon, hoping to avoid the crowds, and put our name down. Unfortunately, after waiting 30 minutes for an update, we discovered that our name hadn't even been recorded. Once we were finally seated, there was a significant delay in receiving our drinks and chips. I noticed one server struggling, dropping food for different tables, which was unfortunate. To add to our frustrations, they forgot our tostada Chiquita, which was later brought out with our main dishes. I ordered carne asada with cheese enchiladas and chile relleno, but the meal lacked the flavor I remembered. The service was inconsistent; they continually forgot our drinks and chips. On a positive note, the ambience was lovely, and I still adore the classic LA decor. Despite the nostalgic charm of Casa Vega, this experience left me hoping for improvements in both service and food quality for future visits.

Well, I was very lucky. The service is always incredible here and Xavier is an amazing server. I've been a server for a long time, but I gotta tell you that server is one of the best the steak burrito was beyond delicious I can't believe I ate the whole thing. I won't be eating any more meals for another 12 hours, but it was so delicious the melted cheese, the sauce, and of course, the sour cream and guacamole. All fresh each bite going down even faster before I realized... I was ready for more lol I'll be back.!

came for a private party and left happy. the food was great very tasty and fulfilling especially those fish tacos and red rice-no complaints. the service was great very attentive staff inside and outside and made sure everything was catered to. the drinks were top notch can't complain. everybody had a great time.

This was my first time here in almost 25 years and I'll def be back. The tableside guacamole is a must, and the spinach enchiladas were delish. I'm normally more of a carnivore, but the veg was calling to me that day and did not disappoint, haha. The spicy marg was too sweet and not all that spicy, IMO. I wouldn't get that again. Service was ok, but it was surprisingly crowded for 4pm on a Sun. I think they're just always busy. Love the dim lighting, and they had festive holiday decorations up. Valet was very reasonable, I think $10. I bought a hoodie and wear it almost daily!

Casa Vega absolutely blew us away. This place is a true LA classic, and now with their newly opened patio, the experience is even better. The vibe is vibrant, lively, and perfect for enjoying a great meal in that beautiful LA weather. We ordered the molcajete and WOW... easily one of the best we've had. Served sizzling hot, packed with flavor, and cooked to perfection, every bite hit. You can tell this kitchen knows exactly what they're doing. Huge shoutout to Joe, his recommendations were completely on point and elevated the whole experience. And the margarita he suggested? Out of this world. Smooth, refreshing, and one of the best we've had in LA. Between the amazing food, top tier service, and now that patio setup, this spot just leveled up even more. Add this hidden gem to your bucket list.

My first visit to Casa Vega was faaaannntastic! What an epic and iconic Los Angeles institution. We sat in the Cliff & Rick booth from the Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Drinks were delicious and perfectly balanced. I couldn't resist a happy hour Mexican pizza! We also ordered the Molcajete (not pictured) which was phenomenal as well. Excellent service, classic ambiance. I'll certainly be back!

Good happy hour drinks with delicious and freshly prepared chips. The table side Caesar salad preparation is a fun show and done with great care. The tacos are solid.

I have to prepare myself when I come here & I also prepare my friends (which end up telling me they did not expect it to be THAT Loud, so heads up, it really is.) I usually enjoy the patio here because it is much more quiet (youre able to hear your friends talking to you) & thankfully, it's available, or I'm not sure I would come here. Also, telling your order to the bar tender means that she can't hear you either, which is super fun to just scream at each other back & forth if thats what you're into. They don't have my favorite IPA on draft, but they have some good options for beers. I do love that they carry local brews -- they have mostly STONE, Golden Road & like, one Firestone (which is usually what I prefer.) They have some cocktails, so for girlypops that prefer those, this is a pretty solid place for variety in drink styles & thereby groups of people. I'm not sure if they have a car park in the back, actually, I usually find street parking right away, & there is a crosswalk right near the business if needed.

The roar that erupted throughout the restaurant was so powerful it literally made everyone jump to their feet. You didn't have a choice--it was pure emotion. Sherman Oaks is gritty and the section of Ventura Boulevard that houses TLP is almost brutalist in its anti-establishment aesthetic. You would never know it was here if you didn't either live in the neighborhood or seek it out as I did. It is sandwiched between a completely non-descript place that I didn't even look at and a crystals shop with grafitti-etched windows (unfortunately!) but some really cool beads. Inside is the same -- no frills, a dress-down and survive-if-you-dare vibe. My pictures will illustrate what I mean. Nevertheless, the friendly service (shout out to our server, Patrick), the menu, and the quality of the food are well worth it. Again, see what we ordered in the photos attached. Everything was delicious. The floor, tables, and chairs were all clean. There is some kind of post-apocalypse rhumba going on with the ceiling treatment. It is almost reverse-logic art with all the shading (stains? velour movement?) and utilitarian installation it reveals. Love the walls though, and the worn distressed wood everywhere (see the pix, folks). A bonus was watching the Masters (Patrick let us linger) and sitting by a giant window that was open to the street. Parking is up a block or so on either side. We always find safe spots in Sherman Oaks. The music seemed to be one CD of an unknown (to me) vocal artist and was pleasant. The crowd was friendly and the whole atmosphere was like one big homey grunge party. You know those mornings you fall out of bed and almost don't want to change out of your pajamas or yoga threds?
