Really brings me no pleasure to do this, but this is my forth visit and it was such a step down from the previous visits. End of the day, a $68 bill pre-tip for a less than genrous plate of ($16??) guac and 4 very small tacos with no rice or beans included and one draft Modelo is just unacceptable. The tacos were adequate, but unspectacular. 'Filet mignon' tacos were a single unchopped hunk of meat well flavored but so bare and small for 2x $22. The guac was too refrigerated, with not fully ripened avocado that resulted in an overly sweet taste and slightly firm texture that was unpleasant. Chips were also just not very good, and also not as far as I could tell complimentary. Service gets high marks for speed and efficiency, but felt super impersonal. Example, a server asked us how everything was while we were clearly just sitting there, not having tasted any of it waiting for some limes to arrive at the table. Just asked the question without surveying at all, and it was very performative and not genuine. Which is fine. I'm not at all mad at the servers, tough job but worth noting when noting the tip % options on the POS. End of the day I don't know if I'll be back or not. Everybody has an off day. But just about every aspect was less than stellar(draft beer was excellent) especially compared to three previous excellent visits. It's getting harder to justify going out for dinner, and at these prices, I would hope they could do a little better. read more

I visited Mercado for happy hour and had the margarita, taquitos, and tres leches cake. The taquitos were crispy and flavorful, and the tres leches was absolutely delicious--the highlight of the meal. The margarita was refreshing but a bit too icy for my taste, which diluted the flavor. The atmosphere was pleasant and service was good overall. My main disappointment was the parking fee: they charge $10 for parking after 4 PM, even though there seemed to be plenty of available spaces in the lot. Aside from that, the food was enjoyable and I'd consider coming back, especially for the taquitos and dessert. read more

Fajitas taste like boiled beef peppered and tossed in tomato sauce. Avacados weren't ripe so guacamole tasted like water and salty chips. DO BETTER MERCADO. This is for you. Half the aesthetic of fast casual and prices of a upper end steak house. ------------------- Because management flagged my review to be removed. In my experience at this restaurant was unpleasant. Having my review taken down was unpleasant. From the moment I entered the door. It was clearly not for people like myself. 3% surcharge to support their staff. 18% automatic gratuity to parties of 6. Firstly, love the decor and music selection. Secondly, can we talk about their shrimp tacos served on a jicama "tortilla"? So unique, so refreshing. Or how about the fresh guacamole. Or the chile relleno? I came here for happy hour with friends and oh did we eat: potato tacos, the steak tacos, the carnitas taco, black beans and cilantro rice to name a few. Oh and they are not joking when they say they have the best flan. Flan was never to my liking but that's changed since trying it here. Cocktails are stiff, local beer selection(boomtown). Lastly but certainly not the least, the service was great. Our server Silas was attentive and the manager Victor even came by our table a few times to check in on us. Love this restaurant! Small cute place. The inside is very nice. They were not busy at all we came in the middle of the afternoon. They have happy hour on Saturday but not much of a menu at all. I came for upscale mexican but I had southern comfort food with a mexican flare. The bartender recommended the POLLO EN SALSA DE CUATRO CHILES. While that sounds amazing, it is chicken mashed potatoes and corn. Something my mom probably made a million times growing up. I loved it. The salsa was just unique enough to provide an original experience. Top that off with a pomegranate margarita to complement the dish. Certainly not what I expected but exactly what I needed. RUN don't walk to Mercado Hollywood! I didn't get around to dining at Mercado until late November last year but I've already returned 4 times since then. This is definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants on Ventura blvd. I always get one of their seasonal Agua Fresca's which are always amazing. No meal is complete here without starting off with the Dip Duo. You get to try their guacamole, the mushroom choriqueso and the salsa with fresh tortilla chips. The guacamole is some of the best I've ever had and the mushroom queso has a super cheesy earthy flavor that's delicious. I'm not the biggest fan of their salsa, it's really smokey salsa compared to a more fresh or spicy salsa which I prefer. I also highly recommend the Dos Gringas tacos. Chef Jose Acevedo knows how to do pork really well and I think that shines best in the Dos Gringas tacos as they're super tender and packed with flavor. You can't go wrong with ordering the Carnitas as well, I just slightly preferred the taco version since each bite was just so flavorful. Some of the other dishes I've tried are the Deep Sea Scallops, Chile Relleno, Tacos De Filete, and the Carne Asada. Out of these the Carne Asada was probably my favorite, the meat was juicy and tender and I loved the fresh grilled vegetables it came with. The deep sea scallops and tacos de filete were also good, but I feel like I've had better elsewhere. And I feel like I'm just not the biggest Chile Relleno fan so take this with a grain of salt, but to me this dish wasn't very flavorful so I would not order it again. It was however a large portion for the price which I did appreciate. For dessert they're known best for the Flan which I sadly have not been able to try yet. But I have had their dessert which I forget the name, but it was essentially Mexican bread pudding and it was decent! The service here is always super friendly and attentive. I wish they had more seating that wasn't hightop, but other than that the vibe is really nice and perfect for a date, business drinks/dinner, or just a good time! They offer valet parking but I usually get lucky with street parking across the street. read more

I had a fantastic experience last night at Mercado! We went here before a show at the Pantages and it was a 5 minute drive away from the theater. Reservations are available to make through Resy or if you call the restaurant. I made reservations (although they were not needed) and I was seated immediately upon arriving. I went during happy hour, 4-6pm Friday-Sunday and 5-7pm Mon-Thurs. Love the happy hour menu options and prices. We had the carnitas nachos, al pastor tacos, ground beef tacos, and a margarita. The carnitas nachos are only on the happy hour menu and they are amazing. The chips come loaded with plenty of carnitas, covered in the mushroom choriqueso, black beans, guacamole, tomatoes, onions, and tomatoes. The mushroom choriqueso adds a dynamic flavor to the nachos that you cannot find anywhere else. The carnitas are slow cooked so they are not dried out. The dos gringas al pastor tacos were also delicious. The slow cooked al pastor had great flavor. The slightly spicy salsa paired with the sweet pineapple made an awesome combination. The tortilla were also fresh and tasted homemade. The ground beef tacos were my least favorite of the dishes I ate. Although I enjoyed them and they tasted good, nothing about them stood out to me. I would not get them again knowing there are other more unique food options to try. The margarita also was not my favorite. It tasted mostly like lime with a sour syrup in it. Mercado's service was excellent. The server came over immediately to take my happy hour order in which I greatly appreciated because happy hour was close to ending. I was impressed at how quickly the food came out after I ordered it. My food was ordered and in front of me within 10 minutes of being seated. The interior of Mercado feels modern with fun light fixtures. Parking at mercado is street parking. I would definitely recommend Mercado, especially during happy hour. Mercado Hollywood is a nice spot for upscale Mexican food and drinks. The margaritas are delicious (ask for no salt and a straw, because they're too generous with the former and stingy with the latter). Their meats are tender and flavourful. There just isn't a lot of it - do not expect overflowing platters here. The plating and presentation of the food is lovely. Your entire experience will have many Instagrammable moments - the whole space is very modern, trendy, edgy. Service is performative and efficient. We came for drinks once, and for brunch another time. We had margaritas both times, plus a michelada, the filet mignon tacos, and the carnitas plate for brunch. They use green peas in their rice, so since I'm allergic, I asked for no rice, clearly stating why. The waitress misunderstood and thought I was allergic to beans too, which would have resulted in me receiving two tiny $23 tacos and nothing else. I did receive a bowl of beans, but no rice substitution was offered (not even as an upsale of the cilantro-lime rice side). This was simply noted; not expected. Restaurants can decree a "no substitutions" policy, even in the case of a guest's disability, if they so choose. I would definitely come here for drinks again, and maybe get an appetizer to split if feeling peckish. While the food is high quality, I'd rather spend my eatin' out money at a place like Salsa & Beer where the food is bomb AND portion sizes are more satisfying. read more

Omg I'm so glad we found this place! We are in town and were nearby and wanted some good tacos and Mercado popped up. We started with chips and salsa and the chips were sooo good. Fresh & hot house made tortilla chips (we would have enjoyed more salt on them but they were incredible) and the salsa were great. My sons loved the smoky salsa and I got extra and the habanero salsa. Also, my spicy marg was perfection. For entrees, my husband and I shared the fish tacos and carnitas nachos. Best fresh (not fried) fish tacos ever! The flavor was impeccable. Our kids had amazing rice & beans and tacos for one, quesadillas for the other. The service was exceptional and fast. What can I say about it this fabulous restaurant that I'm sure many others haven't already said?!! I've been a few times and the food is always fresh and delicious. However, considering these are the same owners as Yxta, I can't imagine the food being anything less than stellar. I am now hooked on the lobster tacos and this is the main reason I come, although they have many other great dishes as well as great drinks. Service varies (sometimes when it's less busy we've actually felt like the severs forgot us-which is ironic) but when you get a good server, you get a great server! Would recommend it regardless but make sure for busier nights you get a reservation. There is a little bit of street parking depending on time/day you come but they do offer valet. Ambiance is good. Again, sometimes it's crowded and sometimes pretty chill. Do yourself a favor and pop over there for some lobster tacos and one of their signature margaritas! read more

Tourist trap next to Universal Studios. I ordered a margarita and it was basically ice and 4 sips of an actual drink. I had to order a shot for over 15 bucks to get some actual booze in the drink. Bill was $150 for 2 kids meals - 2 tacos and a tostada and they even charged us 2 bucks for sour cream my son did not order. The rest was 2 margaritas with no booze in them and 2 beers. The one thing a good Mexican food place should not get wrong is a margarita. Should be strong so two and you have a decent buzz.
