It was just our luck that happened to be Cinco de Mayo and my out of town friend wanted an early dinner of some delicious Mexican food. I am so happy that I discovered Casablanca! When my best friend and I walked inside Casablanca the decor and dimly lit lights caught my attention immediately. We were seated in a booth next to a station where we could see a lady making fresh tortillas. We decided on the immortal drink that was seen on posters outside the building. The waiter let us know this drink is made at the bar, but they also had a margarita cart that they bring to the table to make the drinks right in front of you. We were so happy with our choice of the immortal. This drink was so good that we ordered two more each during our time at Casablanca. For lunch I ordered the build your own tacos and I decided on corn tortillas instead of flour. Which the waiter let me know they are homemade just like the flour kind. While we waited for our food, we were given fresh tortillas with this salsa that tasted like avocado. We could not stop raving over the tortillas. They were so fresh and buttery. I would come here just to eat the tortillas and have a drink. The build your own tacos was pretty good. The meat and toppings are all separate so I could build my tacos to my likings. The only thing I wasn't too crazy about was the cheese. The taste was a little too different for me. My friend enjoyed her tacos as well. I was very pleased with the food and hospitality. Parking: There is a small parking lot beside the restaurant. Otherwise expect to park on the street and possibly a few blocks away. I live very close by and would say this is a good but not great Americanized Mexican food restaurant. It's been open since 1980 and is quite popular here in Venice. Inside is fairly large with many different seating options from booth, to table, to bar seating. Our server was polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. They also make the tortillas right on site and they were one of the best parts of the meal because they were absolutely delicious and very fresh. There is also a large free parking lot attached on the side and in the back of the restaurant. For this visit I ordered the Carne Asada Tampiqueña and enjoyed it. The carne was a bit fattier than I prefer and I was not a huge fan of the rice but the tortillas and the side enchilada were very good, I appreciated the crispy cheese topper on the enchilada specifically. Overall, I would say this is a solid option for a casual Mexican lunch or dinner with friends or family especially if you are in a rush. The location is honestly really great and the easy parking is also a big bonus. read more

I came here on a Friday night without reservations (my understanding is that it's walk in only for small groups). I was initially concerned that the wait would be long since it was packed with people, but my group of four people was seated immediately. As we waited for our server to come by our table to take our orders, I casually looked around the room to get a sense of the vibe of this restaurant. It's basically a Mexican food restaurant that's Casablanca themed. The walls are decorated with different variations of Casablanca movie posters. But the restaurant does have more character than that. It has a very lively and fun atmosphere which I think would be great for after work happy hours. In fact, they had a person walking around with a mobile margarita cart to make margaritas table side. I won't say the service here is spectacular, but it was better than I expected given how busy this restaurant was. I didn't see an empty table for any extended period of time. What sets this restaurant apart from other Mexican restaurants is the fact that they make the flour tortillas fresh in the dining area. They give you these tortillas nice and warm in lieu of tortilla chips. The food here is excellent, including those fresh tortillas. I had the Queso Fundido, and Red Enchiladas. I would recommend both. For my drink, I had a virgin pina colada. It tasted very good, but it wasn't fully blended. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but it had chunks of ice in it. I would have preferred for it to be fully blended. The restaurant has a parking lot, but there are not a whole lot of spaces given how popular this place seems to be. You may have to drive around the restaurant to find street parking. Final thoughts - I'm not going to say this is one of the greatest Mexican food restaurants I've been to, but it's definitely worth checking out if you want to to go to a restaurant with a unique and fun vibe. read more

Such a fun and inviting restaurant! Locals know it as a favorite themed restaurant for entertaining and serving delicious food. We did call ahead to make a reservation since they are packed every night. We were seated once our entire party arrived (as we did come a bit early). As soon as we were seated we were greeted by our server who took our orders right away. We did miss the margarita cart because our server was too quick with the drink orders, but that's okay, we were just happy to get our margaritas! The margs were quite strong at first, but after mixing them a bit more the marg had a perfect balance of mix to tequila. We did receive our salsa verde and fresh homemade tortillas right away. I would give 5/5 stars for this restaurant due to their tortillas alone. No other notes needed. Honestly all I needed was their margaritas and tortillas! I did end up ordering the chicken fajitas for my entree and it did not disappoint. The seasoning of the chicken and veggies was so flavorful. When I was served my entree I didn't receive tortillas and my friend that ordered tacos also did not receive tortillas, which I did find a bit weird. We ended up requesting tortillas for our meal and eventually we did receive them after two separate requests. I'm not sure if that's how the meals usually come or if they just forgot our tortillas but it all worked out. Otherwise, the service we received was good. Again, would go back for the tortillas alone. Just a heads up! Our family came here for an early Father's Day lunch. When we entered, the restaurant was pretty empty but we were presented with fresh hand made tortillas. To say these were addictive is an understatement. Their menu had the usual fare that you'd find in a Mexican restaurant. However, I wanted to try their calamari after seeing pictures on Yelp. I was not disappointed. It was a generous portion of tender calamari with a sauce that included a few bay scallops. Others at our table seemed to enjoy their meal as well. On our way home from LAX, we were starving and as it was my sister in law's (and brother in law) wedding anniversary, who both love, love Mexican food...I made a bee line for Casablanca Mexican restaurant. I've made numerous visits but it's literally been 12 years since my last visit. I can only account for what I ordered, the Chimichangas, which was delicious and filling ! That said, everyone, a party of 7people, universally loved their food! Particularly the hand made tortillas! My wife, children, and in-laws had never had freshly made tortillas (at other Mexican restaurants). The fresh tortillas were a revelation! We received very good attentive service and didn't have to think twice about water and soda efills. Lastly, my in laws were touched that they got an acknowledgement of their anniversary on their dessert. The team took care of the little things and the food spoke loudly. Popped in for some lunch at this establishment that has been opened for over 40 years in Venice. When you walk in, you feel like you stepped into a history museum with all the collectibles lining the walls, tables, ceiling and more! Plus the old vibe of the bar takes you back! The restaurant features a massive bar and bar seating. Plus there is the main dining room with tables and booths. Also there is a small patio area. As for food, the restaurant features strong drinks and calamari. Unfortunately I did not try these items as I had my mind focused on fajitas and guacamole. Before we could even order we were greeted with homemade tortillas: freshly made right in front of us. As for guacamole, it is sold at market price: we learned that the price of the day was 16 dollars, a bit steep! Too steep! Plus we received our steak fajitas for 23 dollars: there was plenty of meat offered, plus small guacamole, rice, refried beans and peppers. Plenty of food for two people to share. Came here for dinner one evening with friends, and LOVED it! The restaurant looks almost straight out of the movie, with live musicians playing oldies and newer songs. The pianist even played "As Time Goes By," the theme song from the movie. :-) We started by ordering margaritas from the roving margarita cart. Freshly made right in front of us, they were super-tasty! Next came the famous tortillas and salsa. I couldn't stop eating these and almost ruined my meal, heheh. I got the Cheese Enchilada and Chile Relleno combo, which came with rice and beans. DELISH! Casablanca Restaurant is truly one of my favorite places to eat. The food is absolutely incredible. I could honestly make a meal out of just the salsa and unlimited tortillas. They are that good. The margaritas from the margarita cart are strong & delicious. What really sets Casablanca apart is the ambiance and especially the waitstaff. The service is beyond exceptional, warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. I always feel so taken care of. My drink is never empty, and I never have to ask for a thing. The staff makes you feel like you truly count there, and that kind of experience is rare. I drive 40 minutes just to eat here, and I do it happily. Casablanca is like my little version of Disneyland. I've loved this place since the early 80's. I especially love the homemade tortillas. Warm, folded blankets of goodness with homemade green salsa. I could make a meal just from them. So delicious. Mostly it's the great service, friendly people, always solid food and totally unique atmosphere. This last time our table kinda shared the chicken with green mole sauce, a calamari steak mojo de ajo style and a couple cheese enchiladas with red sauce. All delicious and plenty of everything. We asked for a table they sat us down and then said we need the table in 35 minutes.. This was absolutely ridiculous..saying we told you we needed the table. We had a reservation and this place was packed despite having a reservation. We may have waited 10-15 minutes, so no big deal. We weaved in and around the place and were seated right in front of where they make their tortillas which they serve to the table while you look over the menu. I can say with 100% certainty that they are made all night long. These two women never tired and never stopped making the tortillas. I don't eat guac, but my wife does and we ordered some so she can get the whole experience here. She said it was very good and even better with the homemade tortillas. My go to is always chicken enchiladas. I got the green sauce version and it was quite tasty. Our waiter was really helpful with helping my wife make a decision and she landed on the shrimp fajitas. The service was great. The food was delicious. And the place was kitschy. Definitely worth checking out when you're in the area. read more

Dined in on Saturday, 5/10/25 for pre Mothers Day dinner. There were 11 of us. We just chanced on a table. Luckily it was early enough when we arrived around 5:30pm. They were able to accommodate us by the bar area. I guess it's better than waiting. Our table was right next to the bar and there were so many people standing around crowding the area even hitting my chair as the server and people walking by. It was so annoying! People are just not respectful of others and they don't even acknowledge when they hit you, so rude!!! Our server was nice, patient and helpful with questions and quick to respond to any requests which made up for the inconvenience of our table situation. The food was good, everyone enjoyed it and the homemade tortillas were fire!!! They don't give chips and salsa, instead they give you hot and fresh tortillas for appetizers. We really enjoyed that treat. The restaurant is small but they did try to accommodate large groups. The place was really loud. They're located on Lincoln blvd and Rose Ave in Venice, Ca. First time visit and I can't wait to return. When we were seated, a plate filled with fresh tortillas (made right there in the dining room) was put down with this green mild salsa that had small cubes of cheese. The warm tortilla was soft and stretchy and delicious. Friends invited me to dinner and everything on the menu looked delicious. There were so many options. Our waiter was kind enough to answer my questions about the meat used in the tacos (shredded) and the birrerera quesadilla (also shredded meat but a different sauce). One of my friends ordered a burrito... what arrived was a meal that could have easily fed 2 people, maybe 3! I was almost envious, but I know I could not have made a dent in that burrito if I had ordered it. Another friend ordered the #10 (2 chicken suiza enchiladas) while his wife and I ordered the #5 (1 taco and 1 enchilada, substitute chicken suiza for cheese)... this plate was absolutely yummy! Served with a garlic rice and choice of black or refried beans. The enchilada sauce mixed with the rice and the beans so well. It was all so tasty. I think I can understand why the dining room was filled with people in the middle of the week. In addition, none of us were drinking alcohol, but apparently they have a famous margarita cart...it was impressive to watch even though we were not drinking. We ended on a sweet note of one of each of the available desserts: a jiggly flan and a dense cheesecake slice, both topped with whipped cream. Also delicious. For this evening, I was treated, but I did pay attention to the pricing that I expected to be higher. The prices on most entrees was reasonable, and though I'm not happy to "normalize" a $18 burrito, the size of the portion made the price very reasonable. Unfortunately, I was only able to take pictures of the decor as I arrived before my friends, it was not a group that I could do my usual foodie shots with, so I will definitely be going back to get pictures of all the food I described. read more
