Was craving Italian during the lockdown and saw these guys were available on Uber Eats. Place has good reviews, so we figured it's worth trying something new. The positive is that the delivery was very quick. Maybe 30 minutes from when we placed the order to the door. Of the two main dishes we got, the carbonara was already dried out by the time we opened it. Maybe it's a dish best served fresh at a restaurant and not in a container on it's way across town. Still, I've ordered carbonara from other places with longer wait times that were in better shape, for less. The bolognese dish we ordered was quite good though. I'll grant that. What's most troublesome is that we also ordered Oven Baked Meatballs, which are $14.00 for the order. Generally when they're this price, you get a couple of really big ones. Instead, we got three tiny meatballs that weren't particularly well-seasoned. There's no way these are worth $5/per ball, that's crazy. Was really disappointed. An overall expensive lesson not to order from here again. read more

On a Saturday night, there is a reason as to why there are ridiculous lines out the door for two of the restaurants in Boston's North End and why it was so easy to get a table at Casarecce. Like most restaurants in the North End, Casarecce is small and cozy. It was just unfortunate that we got seated right next to the kitchen so it was a little awkward to look to our left and see the servers hiding back there to cut the cold pieces of complimentary bread. So yes, the bread was cold and unimpressive. The olive oil was brought out in a black, plastic, to-go condiment container with nothing else in it. Usually restaurants will add black pepper or their own blend of herbs and spices but nope, this was just plain olive oil. My sister got the Pappardelle Alfredo and while she said it tasted okay, it was just a little sad to see that it was a small plate of pasta for $20. I usually like to try other people's pasta dishes because there's usually enough but I felt bad if I were to take one bite of her dish. My boyfriend's spaghetti & meatballs were unimpressive. The texture of the meatballs was a little too gritty for our liking. The sauce was not great either and a bit tart for our liking. He dumped a whole bunch of parmesan cheese onto it to amp it up. I have mixed feelings about my cod puttanesca. The cod was absolutely delicious and cooked so perfectly. The tomato sauce that was on it didn't do anything to help it so I ended up scraping it off. The theme of the day was "super tart" so my tomato sauce was too tart for me. That in combination with the super salty anchovies was blah. The pasta that it came with I barely touched as well because I wasn't into the taste. Pros for Casarecce? You'll get seated quickly and they accept credit card unlike the other well-known North End establishments. You'll also finish your meal quickly because the portions aren't that big. Will we be back? This is a cozy, intimate (i.e., small) place, so I recommend reservations if you're eating during the dinner rush. We were fortunate enough to get there early enough to walk in and get a table. We were greeted right away and told about the menu, especially the fact that everything is made fresh daily by hand. My husband ordered the lasagna, which he said was excellent, as were the cappuccino and bread pudding he ordered for dessert. I had the chicken risotto, and it was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. The butternut squash risotto is just amazing, and the chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Amazing location, in the heart of the North End. The dishes were good but the experience as a whole was not great. The poor server was so overstretched that he did not have time to check on us, at all. The basic bread with oil was as plain as it gets and not keeping up with their neighbors. Ordered the garlic bread but it was incredibly thin and cold. Delicious Sauvignon Blanc - 13 Celsius - but I could only order one glass. Again, three people running the whole front of house on a Friday night. The dishes I recommend are the L inguini Frutti di Mare and Shrimp Diavolo with Spaghetti. read more

We ate here on the Fourth of July, so maybe they were just overwhelmed, but the food was some of the worst Italian food I've ever had. We had the Veal Marsala that had the worst aftertaste. The carbonara had such thick cuts of pancetta that all you could taste was an overwhelming bacon flavor. The rest of the flavors were totally drowned out. And the peas were clearly frozen and chalky the spaghetti frutti du mare had no flavor. All the dishes were clearly missing salt and seasoning. The fish was OK, but not nearly as fresh as other places we've eaten in Boston. The bread for the table was almost inedible. It was so dense and the dough was clearly not salted. Definitely the best meal I've had in the north end! I highly recommend getting the chicken parm, because it comes with homemade pasta on the side which is excellent. We also had the espresso martinis which are very good! The restaurant is very small and the tables are a few inches away from each other, so you definitely need to prepare to be in close quarters. Went here with some friends for dinner on a Friday night. Thankfully we had a reservation because the place is small and it was definitely packed. The staff was really friendly and provided us with menu recommendations. I ended up going with the gnocchi pesto because it's been a while since I've had fresh gnocchi but I really glad I got it. It has the perfect creamy pesto sauce and wasn't overpoweringly garlicky how pesto sometimes can be. I also got a glass of sangria which was nice (we tried to get a bottle because it said you could on the menu but our waiter informed us this was not possible). Overall I thought the food and service were great but the space itself is a bit tight and can make it hard to hear people sitting a few seats down if it's packed. We were starving at 11:30 and dejected by the super long line at a Neptune's when we came across Casarecce. It was a welcome respite to have a shaded seat, and restroom after a long walk around the North End. I decided to take a load off with their aperol spritz and it was like summer just started - cool, not sweet and refreshing. Daughter and I opted to share the lasagna. I'm glad we did! It was huge, more than enough for two. While we killed it, the amount of ricotta between layers was a bit thick for my taste, I would have preferred more of the delicious meat sauce that topped it. I'm not sure overall that the lasagna is any better than mom would make (eg it wasn't something I will be craving when I leave Boston or when we return), but it hit the spot. Three years later and still satisfied. Found myself back in Boston on a work trip and visited the North End for a few of those nights. Casarecce still hits. We went with a small group and decided to go family style - got the gnocchi dish, bolognese, veal special, calamari, and a few other appetizers to share around. Really solid, rustic, stuff your face Italian food. Plenty of North End restaurants have cheapened up since the pandemic, (you'll find dry, store bought pasta at a few more now) but not here. All the pastas made in house, bolognese sauce was so savory, and the veal was very, very good. Based on my last visit and what I saw being served around there's definitely some standouts on the menu you should be going for - veal specials, raviolis, bolognese, and the gnocchis. Calamari was some of the best I've had. Light, well seasoned, good crisp. Walk in here and you'll be leaving happy. Prompt service. Finally, homemade bread. It slaps. read more

Casarecce's big selling point is the handmade/hand rolled pasta on site- can confirm, pasta is fresh and amazing. First time trying pappardelle pasta and id say it was great tossed in the Alfredo sauce (marscapone cream w Parmesan) easily best Alfredo sauce I've ever had. Ever!!! I usually need to add salt /pepper to the sauce but this came out ready to be enjoyed. Flavor profile was perfect. Warm, buttery creamy goodness. Service was inviting, waiters are proud of their establishment. I felt a warm welcome coming here. My parents would like to add that their lasagna bolognese was divine. I tried this restaurant based on the yelp rating, but have to wonder if many of the glowing reviews were fabricated. Our experience was mediocre at best, and overall disappointing. Our service was just ok, as another user posted, and the glasses and floor were dirty. The wine pours were stingy, especially given the price per glass. I had the casarecce sausage and broccoli rapi and my mom had the shrimp scampi. The pasta was fresh and the portion sizes decent, but we both found our dishes to be underwhelming and lacking flavor. To the point where it made chain Italian restaurant food restaurant seem like haute cuisine. The cost was a little over $100 for two pasta dishes and four glasses of wine (without tip). Perhaps they have some specialties that are worth the trip, but otherwise I would look elsewhere (and be sure to dig a little deeper through the reviews first). read more

I chose this place based on the reviews and I did not find them reflective of our experience. The food is not prepared with care nor is it flavorful. I've had tastier pasta at Olive Garden, but the service and location were good, so overall it was a better experience, albeit 3x the price. We booked this restaurant based on the reviews and it was spot on. The food and service were excellent! We were a party of 5 and each of us had a different entree. Everything was fresh and prepared just right. Our waiter Juan was attentive, professional and friendly and made our family's experience exceptional.
