I trust what she tells me and she is conscious of the difficulty some owners may have in paying high vet costs. She will explain her decisions carefully and present alternatives if needed. I love the compassionate and pragmatic nature of both vets that I've worked with (Dr. Katherine Paulson and Dr. Cody Fields). In both cases they listened patiently and got to know our whole furry family. Both vets won over my very skittish dog, Henry, and managed to handle my grumpier dog, Tandy, with minimal discomfort or tension. Every time I've visited (for acute illness and annual check ups) I feel confident that we have a good plan of action when we leave, that is neither alarmist, nor is it dismissive of my concerns or my dogs' symptoms. Everything is exceptionally reasonably priced and I am am always happy as I go to to check out. I surprised someone after my last appointment by calling the annual checkup and vaccine "a steal", but I sincerely meant it. For this quality of care you could charge a lot more and I would still only want to take my dogs here. read more

Dr. Paulson at Cascade Vet has been amazing to me and my cat. I originally visited her for an urgent visit when my cat, Schnookie, started having explosive diarrhea and her butt hole was protruding out of her back end abnormally. Dr Paulson was able to get her butt hole put neatly back and we were both very happy. A few days later my poor kitty started limping around badly. Dr. Paulson was able to fit me in to her schedule the same day and diagnosed Schnookie with a torn ACL. Dr. Paulson had great advice for what I could do to help my cat, while being on a budget. Dr. Paulson has probably spent around 2 hours in total on the phone with me over a course of 4 phone calls. You can tell she knows her stuff and will even explain it in laymans for you. She's never in a rush to get you off the phone or out of the office. She's there to answer all your questions until you feel comfortable with your next steps to help your pet. I'm new to Washington and was looking for a new vet for my cats. Cascade Heights had some great ratings online and I was able to get in quickly for wellness checkups. They treated me amazing from the minute we walked in until we left the building. My cat is sometimes nervous around new people but she was loving on them and wasn't scared at all. We moved to the area recently, and I'm so happy to have found a great vet for my dog, Nala. I made Nala an appointment the morning of our visit. The wait wasn't long at all when we arrived. Nala and I had lots of interaction with Dr. Paulson. The staff and Dr. Paulson were so kind and sweet. Dr. Paulson did a great job of assessing Nala and broke down what the issue could be, and went through what the systematic diagnostic steps were. She started with some treatments in the office, and Nala had to get some X-rays and blood-work. Dr. Paulson called the next day to follow up on the tests. Once we narrowed down what was and wasn't the issue with Nala, we talked more about treatments. She was proactive and it paid off. Nala was feeling better quickly. The report card she emailed afterwards to me was great. She took a picture of Nala in the office and attached it to the report card. My fiance was glad to see it, too. Sometimes it's a lot of pressure to be able to answer all the questions your significant other asks, but it was nice to go over the report card together. read more

Dr Paulson and her staff are the best. I have 2 golden retrievers, both of whom have had cancer. My oldest dog was supposed to make it 2 years. He's happy and healthy 3+ years later. My youngest was just diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and Dr P has been a godsend! She has referred us to the very best surgeons and oncologist and coordinates her care perfectly. She calls just to check in and also to go over labs. She treats them as if they were hers and spends as much time as we need just to talk and she listened and truly cares. She is the best! I really appreciate the hospitality that the staff shows. We have never had to wait for an unreasonable amount of time or been treated with an overly clinical manner by the vets. My dog, who is a delicate sort emotionally, is always relaxed and engaged when he comes here because of this welcoming atmosphere. The vet regularly gets down on the floor with him and lets him roam to allow him to feel relaxed during exams. My wife brought our cat in recently, to a different vet at the clinic than I had seen, and had the same experience. The vet sends regular "report cards" after visits to update us with the pets current health standing regarding weight, dental health, responsiveness, and other standard metrics of health. The receptionist verifies that we are seeing the same vet when we make appointments so that we aren't being tossed between people who may or may not know my pet specifically. The services are priced affordably and I have often paid more for much worse treatment in the past. I really can't speak highly enough of them. read more

Long awaited review. But because of horrible experience at another places I decided to go to this vet. Not only was it close to home so my puppy could go on a walk there and back. It also had awesome reviews! This place is very nice and open. Clean and cozy. The examination room are just the right size. I have been in the large usually use room for dogs and the smaller one for cats. Both are very clean and sanitize. All the employee were very friendly and helpful. I have came her a handful of time and I love it. Very quick to rely to email and they have a app they associate that you can conveniently make an appointment, look up your exam overview and their vaccination shots. I followed Dr. Paulson from Lien to Cascade Heights when she went out on her own and I'd do it again. I love her way with my cats. I especially loved her appreciation for the feistiness of my now-deceased alpha male cat. Courtney is the best there is in terms of vet techs. She has such a gift. The kindness and compassion and sadness that the two of them presented when they came to my home to help transition my afore-mentioned feisty alpha male cat will not soon be forgotten. That was among the hardest days of my life but I knew that both I and he trusted them, even with that impossible decision and task. I've not always loved all the staff there (the main person I struggled with is no longer employed there), and some of the other vets are not my most favorite, but Kathleen and Courtney get 5 stars any day of the week and then some. read more

We have been taking our labradoodle, Baloo, here since day one and I truly cannot say enough great things about this clinic. Dr. Kathleen Paulson is absolutely incredible. She is kind, straight forward, and will treat you and your pet like her own. I've had to call a dozen times with tons of questions and Courtney, Sandy and Dr. Paulson are always quick to help however they can. They have excellent communication and are always on top of making sure you don't miss anything when it comes to your pets health. The office is extremely welcoming, clean, and beautifully decorated! There is also plenty of parking right outside. We recently had our dog spayed here and couldn't have asked for a better experience all the way around. I'm not sure if all vets do this, but Dr. Paulson personally took the time to call and let us know how Baloo was doing right after surgery. We have never had such a smooth experience at the Veterinary clinic! My cat is a rescued stray and I could never even get him out of his carrier for an exam without someone getting severely hurt at his claws and teeth! The visit we had today (thank you for keeping your clinic open on Saturdays!) was unbelievable! I recently got two new kittens and found Cascade Heights on the internet. After reading the great reviews I called and scheduled an appointment. I wasn't sure what needed to be done to start vaccinations or anything, but they recommended I bring them in for an initial checkup to start. They were able to get in me quick and see the kitties a couple days after I called. The initial checkup was smooth and Dr. Paulson was very friendly and great with my fur babies. Several times I've tried to make an appointment that has been important and I've been told there's no appointments available and call back early in the morning to see if any cancellations. There's never any cancellations and I'm always having to go elsewhere for my pets to be seen. My dog has collapsed trachea and allergies which flare up every year at the same time. I asked if they could just provide the medication that always work and of course the answer is he needs to be seen. This time they offered a drop off urgent care visit in the middle of the day 2 days later for $95, when I had asked a week prior for someone to get back to me with a date and they never bothered to call me back. The front office staff are disorganized and have little to no follow through. Feels more like they are just trying to make a profit than take care of pets, if they had called me back like they said they would then I wouldn't be having to take my pet somewhere else yet again. I've been going to this vet for a while, so it's pretty dishes to have to find a new one. I love Dr. Paulson, she's fantastic, but I'm taking my pets elsewhere from now on! read more

My big animal family & I have been following Dr Kathleen Paulsen and her husband, Dr Nick Paulsen since they came to the city from their large animal practices East of the Mountains. They have brought amazing knowledge of animals (and their peoples) to this practice. I feel so fortunate to have found a family practice that mirrors my animal family--handling what's in front of us with an eye on the future of each of my furbabies (and me). Everything (including treatment,costs etc)is throughly explained. I always leave an appointment feeling we have a proactive plan- what it's going to take from me and what it will cost and I leave knowing the drs and staff at chvc really care about my pets and their health and wellbeing. Professionalism and empathy are at the center of every treatment, opinion and the comprehensive advice I have been given.
