Our server Perla was very pleasant, responsive and professional. I would recommend her to any establishment. The preparation of the food however was poor. The meatloaf was very hot but the potatoes and green beans were cold. Our rolls were piping hot but rubbery like they had been in the microwave too long. When I asked to send the platter back Perla offered to warm the beans and potatoes. I refused to have the platter reheated. The platter's base cost was $21 I know inflation is high but the chef could heat the potatoes and beans is the point. The kitchen The manager came over and said that they would have been willing to heat the potatoes up and she put her fingers in the potatoes and they weren't cold. So now I get an argument as well. I did my best not to engage and just asked to have the meal taken off the bill. Bottom line I don't mind spending the money, I just want my meal right the first time without an argument. If you're tourists you're probably trapped. If you're a local like me stay away. There are way too many other places that we can go and get a better value for the same money. read more

Actually had really low expectations for this place. We went mostly for my nephew who loves trains. Surprised to find that the food was solid and service very friendly. Not overpriced which is something you'd expect in a restaurant that's kind of gimmicky. I got the fried chicken, which was a special, and it was some legitimately tasty fried chicken. Had a few bites of the Monte Cristo sandwich as well which I can totally vouch for. I heard that entirely new management had taken over approximately one year ago and that it was worth trying for lunch. My party of four were so glad we did. We all loved our food. One had a ham and cheese panini, my husband had a BBQ chicken wrap, another had the Turkey Rachel (asking for whole wheat bread substitution--no problem), and I had regular Turkey Rachel. Honestly, I am very disappointed with my experience Tonight. I planned a trip months in advance to spend my time with my sister, Penny for our annual black Friday Xmas trip. We checked into the motel, and Christine was the receptionist. She's awesome and very knowledgeable. She made us feel welcomed and appreciated. I thought that we were off to a great start. We went in around 5pm, and the male hostess, who was quite friendly and welcoming told us that it would be a 20 minute wait, and he put our names on a list. We were okay with that because we love supporting local establishments. Well, we didn't get in until 5:50pm. We sat down and started going through the menu. The menu did not have any small plates/ appetizers, and the menu was still listed as "Lunch Menu" which confused me the most. Where was the dinner menu? Non- Alcoholic Drink selections section? The menu is way pricey, and it does not support the area or local ingredient options, such as amish and homestyle. We decided to stick with dessert. This way we could still be supportive, but when our waitress came by after the one waitress who was practically running the place took people who came in after us, she gave us an attitude. She took her ipad order screen, typed something to the other waitress who was in the middle of taking the customer's order, and showed her what was on the screen. Then, the other waitress, in a friendly tone told our waitress, " Hold on i'll be right there after", and our waitress turned back to us and in a snippy tone said, "i'll have to get back to you." I stood up, told my sister that we were leaving. I felt disrespected ss if we did not matter. I will not go back to this restaurant, but I will come back to the motel. read more

Overall we had a pretty good experience here. We went for Breakfast before our ride on the Strasburg Rail Road. We came at a great time, because it was pretty dead when we got there, but by the time we left the place was really filling up. We were seated by the window with a great view of the railroad, and we even got to see the train leave, and come back. The atmosphere was nice, and the hostess was friendly. Two of us got pancakes and the other two got French toast. The food was pretty decent, and the prices were great. I will say, for just ordering pancakes an french toast, and considering that there were only a few other people there when we ordered, we waited a pretty long time. Would suggest this place if you have some time to kill before riding the Strasburg Rail Road. read more

Its not fine dinning but good food for the most part some dishes are ok and some are Okish. The new renovation was much needed and now more tables. The staff is always grate kristen is our favorite waitress always friendly with a smile honest and very helpful very attentive to the tables. The breakfast is verry good better then the lunch and diner in my eyes. I ate here twice recently while staying at the Red Caboose Motel with three other people. The first night we had dinner there and it was okay. They were out of a lot of dishes so we all had to go with second and third choices. All of us thought our dishes were decent but we would probably not return for dinner. The following morning, we had breakfast there out of convenience. That food was way better. Overall, the service was great, prices reasonable, and pretty clean. Stopped in for lupper (around 3pm) on Monday, 4/16. Very friendly staff and we loved the kitschy atmosphere. They had a nice menu with some novel kinds of items, which was very welcome, as the plague of the corporate chains continues to infiltrate Lancaster County. We had some chili, some fried chicken & fries, and some perogies with hot dogs. Everything was very tasty, our waitress was very nice, and the view was very pretty. I agree with Gen S.; if you want fast service, go to Mickey D's! This place was a great spot to sit and relax for a bit after the Railroad Museum, (which is right down the street), have some good food, and enjoy the scenery. Great lunch experience after visiting the PA Railroad Museum. The food was very good. Loved the ambience and you have a great seat to watch the Strasburg short line. I had the ham and cheese panini which was great. They use real pieces of ham. The partner had a hamburger which he said was really terrific. Also, the Lancaster County blood orange cider was super good especially on such a hot day like today. Definitely recommend. read more

We finished our train day at Casey Jones Restaurant. The restaurant is charming and the food is good. We had a seat by the window and my son enjoyed watching the Amish buggies going by on the roadside throughout the meal. I had the Rachel Griller which I enjoyed very much and two people in my party had the Chicken Griller which they both really liked. Be sure to stop at the gift shop adjacent to the restaurant. This place is definitely the end of the line for me. We went here for dinner after a day in the Lancaster area. We felt the location would be a delight from the business corridor of route 30. That truly did not disappoint. The arrival to the dinning car was a bit complicated, I felt like I had just departed a ride in Disney, because our path to dine wound us through multiple oddly laid out spaces, enticing you to make souvenir type purchases. As our party of five was seated, five menus were tossed onto the table by the hostess with no instruction that we were to use two tables across from one another since our party exceeded a four top. Our beverage order was placed, while we read the menu. Next thing I know I was wearing a Diet Coke in my lap! And to think this train car doesn't even move! The waitress quickly headed to get napkins as I followed behind. An accident and an apology, no big deal. However she moved us to another table now diagonal from the rest of our party, and never even brought a bar rag out to wipe down the table, just used paper dry napkins. Once food was ordered, I felt like the waitress was not attentive. She could not seem to remarry who ordered which dressing for their salads and even served an Italian dressing on a Cesar salad. The food was mediocre at best, and truly overpriced. Our bill for five was $87, and one party member only had spaghetti without meatballs. We did walk down past the train car motels and were surprised that one caboose offered an "open house". We popped in to see the accommodations and were pleasantly surprised. However the exterior of most of the train cars looks tired and sometimes dangerous. Steps had rotten wood, roofs needed mucking, and hand railings could use a good sanding. I feel this is a unique concept, reading the menu it is a family run business, but maybe it is just far too much work and money to maintain. Perhaps it should be offered to real estate mogul and President Trump to purchase, Trump Trains, and maybe Sarah Sanders could be the front desk staff. Hmmm? read more

If could give this zero stars I would. It was so bad we just had to laugh. The food was beyond disgusting. The kids meals were mediocre, cheeseburger, hot dog and chicken tenders. They were out of ALL potatos, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, ALL potatoes.... so my husband couldn't get the first meal ordered, then ordered the stuffed pork chop, oh wait they are all out of that too. He just ate chili....which was more n like chili soup. The open faced turkey and mashed potatoes was gross. The mashed potatoes, the last ones avail were fake and tasteless....the turkey was definitely NOT real turkey breast. Tasted like it came out of a can. My mom ordered chicken pot pie, it was so dry, she couldn't even eat it... oh yea and they forgot our salads all together..... NEVER again. read more

The food was good but the service could use an overhaul. We were one of two tables in the restaurant and the four servers were seated at the opposite end of he car rolling silverware etc. While I understand they don't really have anywhere to go that is out of view of customers I really don't want to hear discussions about tattoos, piercings, getting "wild on Facebook," run ins with the police and especially don't want to hear the negative comments about a waiter who used to work there that they referred to as gay in a fairly offensive and negative context. Considering the distance between our table and where they were sitting it was a shame how clearly we could hear their entire conversation in detail. Definitely an issue for management but the only person I saw who may be management was not so quietly discussing scheduling with a server midway through our meal. A bit unprofessional and a shame for a spot that has such potential. read more

Stayed in the hotel which was ok, but stood with other guests waiting to be seated for 15 minutes with only 2 tables seated in the restaurant! Plenty of open tables yet the only time anyone came over to us was to tell us to shut the door since I couldn't fit in the car with the rest of my family, We decided if that was the treatment just waiting to sit we'd be better off at the local Waffle House! I so want to rate the atmosphere apart from the service! The design and concept is 4 stars, although it is obvious that the tight floor plan makes the waitresses grumpy to begin with. The food was ok, not great, but not inedible. The challenge of the floorplan, is akin to serving people on an airplane. Since I was seated toward the back of the car and right next to the kitchen, I could hear all conversation between our waitress and the hostess. The hostess told the waitress she had a party to seat, but "at least there were no kids". This restaurant has a sign that faces the trail tracks promoting its children's meals, like seriously? What adult in their right mind would be out here in the middle of BFE Lancaster County paying good money to go 20 miles an hour on a hundred year old train if they didn't have a kid? I get that kids are messy, and that they have to be cleaned up after. and I'd be happy to pay for good service if I had gotten good service. Our waitress never asked my husband how he wanted his burger cooked or if I wanted a re-fill on my drink. I asked a different person for napkins and a different person for the check. Thankfully, we were in and out pretty quickly and there is a free petting zoo by this place so the fun never ends. read more

Arrived at 4:30pm on a Monday. Went inside and waited 5 or so minutes before being greeted by two employees who seemed shocked that we were there. Asked if we could sit outside as it was a beautiful day. Two other parties were seated outside finishing their meals. Employees told us sure, pick any table. We sat and waited. One of the same two employees was cleaning off the table of one of the other parties and told us our server would be right with us. The other party near us asked for a check. About ten minutes passed. That party sent one of their members inside to get the check since it never came. They then left. We waited another ten minutes without seeing a soul, laughing that maybe the chef had gone home and they had to run and fetch them. The kids became restless. After another five minutes we left. Ate at a chain restaurant nearby. Cannot comment on the food because we never got that far. Absolutely terrible. read more

Well - we walked out of this one. We were visiting Strausburg for a train ride and the museum with our train-fascinated toddler last weekend. I thought it would be perfect to end with lunch in an actual train at Casey Jones Restaurant despite the negative reviews listed. Well - we walked out and went some place else. Upon entering, my husband and I looked at each other and commented about the smell of this place. Just smelled, moldy and mildew. Not something you necessarily want to smell while you are eating. We crammed into the tiny doorway to find another couple waiting to be seated. After a few minutes and overhearing the woman exclaim "I don't know, I think we should leave", I asked how long they had been waiting. They said at least 5 minutes before we arrived. There was 4 tables with people and children, and NOT ONE person working there had come out into the dining room to seat anyone in that time or to check on tables. As I was looking around I noticed, that not one table had drinks. They were all just sitting there, parents looking annoyed, kids looking tired - that's when I turned to my husband and said "let's go." The man who was waiting in front of us, actually walked to the back of the train to get someone and I heard someone say "Yeah, we'll be out there"... no hurry lady. Geez - In 10 minutes, we didn't even see anyone who worked there - that means, all those poor people who didn't even have drinks yet still were waiting 10 minutes without seeing their waitress to even get drinks. Definitely not the customer service you want to have while running a restaurant. Seems like a cool idea - dining in a train car - but this whole place needs a lot of work. Oh - and as for the other place we went, check out Smoke Stack BBQ in Strausburg - It's BEYOND delicious! 5 stars and very family friendly! read more
