I've been coming here for years now and it wasn't until recently I felt like one of the bartenders started to profile me. He had to check my ID twice in different occasions throughout the same night when I had ordered drinks already from him.. I rolled up with a couple of homies one day and that same bartender asked for mine and all of my homies IDs when the homies were sitting down at a table, not even planning on ordering drinks. Yes, I understand the laws of California, but the bartender was soo busy and rude about checking their IDs, that he expected me to check and bring the homies' IDs to him.. I told him, "Hey isn't that your job? Shouldn't you be the one walking over there checking their IDs??" He then replied, "Do you wanna keep drinking here!?" I'm pretty sure this guy was more wasted than I was!! He had that look of a drunk. So I walked out. I've had told all my homies that I was with that night that they needed to have their IDs with them and to show it to this dick head, and when they did. The bartender didn't bother checking their IDs after all. Two weeks later, I actually decide to go back with a different friend, and apparently I'm no longer welcomed because, "there was a incident." Never thought I would actually be banned from a any bar, but especially from an old town bar like this. Giving it one star only because I was once a regular. Caseys is my favorite bar. Yes, its a dive. Its true.. there is a no cussing rule. I consider myself somewhat of a regular, although I have been out of town and busy the last month or so. The bartenders are awesome. Kirk is my favorite and hes always funny, great to talk to. Larry may be older but he is hilarious. How can you go wrong with 3 dollar drinks? And mostly all the servers are heavy handed. I can get drunk for well under a 20. I tend to get heavily intoxicated but I have never been 86'd. Just don't scream out profane words. I hadn't been in ages, so I was surprised to see a packed house on Thursday night. Silly me forgot there was a jazz band that played on Thursdays. As other reviews have testified, they are quite good and not too loud so you can hold a conversation. Drinks were a little pricier than I remember, but hey I still got 2 for 9 bucks, so I'm not going to complain. I really dig the mix of people there. Hipsters do exist in the valley and Canoga Park is the "new Silverlake" so they flock to Casey's, as do old-timers, and various other middle aged valley folk. This is a totally non-pretentious bar. Makes me almost want to move back to Chatsworth. You will not be disappointed. read more

Been going to Casey's Tavern for about 20 years every Saturday night to hear Evie and All That Jazz. We also go on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday occasionally. It's a fun place where there is young and old with no hassles, just everyone having a good time. The drinks are ridiculously inexpensive with a generous pour every time. The only thing I would change is the wine...........I love Chardonnay, but the one they serve is by far the worst. Other than that, we love the place! read more

IT'S TRUE !! they will kick you out if you cuss....I was given a warning when I said the word "heck" and someone I knew couldn't get in because he was wearing a sleeveless shirt. Once you get past the NO TOLERANCE policy for cussing and the minor dress code the place is really kick back and the drinks are excellent and amazingly cheap!! The jazz group they have there on Thursday nights is also AMAZING !! plus they have a pool table and it's pretty cheap too. This place is only for locals, and when I say locals I mean the ones that regular Casey's. I was somewhat impressed with this place. They are very friendly and if you go at the right time you can get a nice spot in the back to park and not worry about trying to park on the street. Great prices on the beer, but keep in mind that it is CASH ONLY here. Keep in mind before you come here that this is not a bar for the 20's or even the young 30 year olds. Do not plan on coming here with a big group to just being a quite place and wind down. Although you could, this is not really the place to groups. It is more of a place for a couple of people that just want to go out and have a nice calm eavning. If I were maybe born in the 40's, still wrote checks, carried cash, and wore wingtips, this might be a place I'd hang out. First: No cards accepted here. In a time where everything is plastic, this is a huge drawback. Even though I usually carry cash, if I ever run out, I'm always able to fall back on my debit/credit cards. Not here. I can't dig that. Second: Cursing. While I'm no fan of harsh language...I also recognize that when people drink, they slip. Be careful here. You'll get thrown out. The band is great, and brings an awesome atmosphere to the place, but if you're out on a saturday night and Casey's is all that you can come up with...I'd question your social life, and seek to expand it. read more

Back to one of my favorite old haunts. I can't even tell you how long I have been going here, but all you need to know is I am not as old as most of the people in there. Crystal clean, and smells great as always. Love the baby pool table in the back. The drinks here are nice and strong and fairly priced. I just have to remember to not order them in those tall skinny glasses. I feel like I am at a smokey, cheesy bar in vegas when I do. Best dive bar around. You must be respectful, not cuss, and not wear a sideways or backward baseball cap or they'll 86 you. No one seems to think the rules are unreasonable. The drinks are reasonably priced and the pours are good - the perfect combination. There is a really good selection of drinks and the bar tenders are laid back and non pretentious. On certain days, older musicians come in and play standards. Sometimes the members change but they are all very impressive. One of the things that I love is that you can (reasonably) bring in or have food delivered so you can snack or have your meal with your drinks. Just be respectful and clean up after yourself. You cannot classify this bar as youngsters or oldsters because it's everywhere in between. I've been coming to this bar many, many years and it's always been my favorite. read more

My ideal place to hang out! Beers were $3 and drinks were cheap as well (er, I don't remember....), which bespeaks of the strength of their mixed drinks! This is the kind of place where you come to hang out with friends. The owner of the bar (I'm going to assume her name is Casey?) sat at a table behind us and chatted up with our group. She's a cool lady who loves her job. How awesome! We came on a Saturday night and the band was playing swing (not too many dancers, but a few couples were getting their swing on). The place was packed, so we ended up sitting around the pool table until a table opened up. The crowd is super mixed, so you're bound to feel at ease here. Casey's is my favorite bar of all time. So good, it seems fictional. On our second visit, the woman who served us (whom I believe is the owner's mom) recognized us from two weeks before and greeted us warmly. Take that, Cheers! Of course, we go for the jazz. What a crazy scene! White-haird senior citizens lined up in cheap banquet hall chairs in the front rows, with all manner of younger hipsters huddled along the back and sides. I think the youngest band member is approaching 80. The lead singer is in her 70s. They bring on guests - all good - of varying talent, including a granddaughter and the fiancée of the guitarist. It's like a party at your elderly uncle's house, if he had been a member of Local 47 of the musician's union. Every song is a classic, lovingly presented and played with amazing chops by some of the steadiest, coolest cats in town. As has been mentioned elsewhere, the drinks are crazy cheap. A round for five friends cost as much as two drinks (maybe even one!) at ritzier places. Casey's is like a bar straight out of Austin, Bourbon Street, Chicago, NYC, or any other place known for great music dives, only it is the SFV's very own little piece of heaven. Highly recommended to all "real" jazz lovers, as well as to anyone who wants to feel like they have stepped back in time about 50 years. read more

I love Casey's ! I come here with my boyfriend every here and there for a drink and some pool! CASH ONLY. There are a few banks minutes away. Sometimes you just need to go somewhere low key and chill. Usually when i go it's pretty quiet or they'll have some tunes playing. They have a few tv's scattered thru the bar. Usually have some type of sport on. They have a band on Wednesdays i believe. Nice little band . I wouldn't recommend to go with a large group of friends if you're trying to get turnt, it's not that kind of place! Which i love ! Their drinks are are at a reasonable price as well. They have one pool table, there's hardly ever any wait time. Everyone is friendly and good with sharing. I usually see an older crowd when i'm there but that's never a problem. Everyone is so friendly there. You'll end up making a new friend at the end of the night ! I don't believe they have a kitchen, they have some chips and snacks. You might be able to take some food inside from the few local restaurants around. Their parking is ok. The rear parking lot can get full at times but there is extra parking across the way. Overall, the bartenders are some cool guys. The drinks are good and the atmosphere is cool and calm! Oh!! And they do have some rules. So make sure to follow them ! :) read more

On a trip from Long Beach to Sacramento, we were stuck in Canoga Park due to a wild fire and car troubles and never made it. We found a motel and the nearest bar. Casey's Tavern has a great vibe and definitely feels like like something from a different time. The bartender Todd was very friendly and bought us a drink. The regular patrons were all fun to talk to. Once our hotel room was ready we left but came back later. Too bad I live nowhere near here. read more

I've been to countles bars of countless varieties in this town. Above and beyond, Casey's is one of the crown jewels in Los Angeles. Its hidden and far for most Angelinos-- its in the far northwest reaches of the San Fernando Valley-- Canoga Park to be exact. When one steps in to Casey's for the first time, the reaction is usually "whoa this place is really cool.." Nobody leaves until at least 3-4 drinks, and everybody comes back. Whats so good about Casey's? Every Thursday and Saturday nights, a senior-citizen musician group (my pals and I call them "the old man band") performs. They play big band jazz standards, including swing, blues, and jive. One of the vocalists is a 94 year old woman who has one of the best voices I've heard and she does a great rendition of My Way. While the band is entertaining, they also play at a tolerable noise level. This means that you have the ability to either listen to the great music, or chat with friends. Next cool thing: The drinks. The drinks! No beer on tap, and I would strongly suggest getting a mixed drink. They are strong and CHEAP! $2.50 to be exact. And if you buy a round for say, 5 people, the drinks seem to get cheaper. Once I bought a round of vodka sodas for five people, and it was $12.00. Tip well, they deserve it. Casey's used to defy the smoking ban, but they have changed that ambitious policy probably because they got fined... NO CUSSING! That's right, Casey's has a policy against foul language. A sign out front reads "86 is a four letter word.." Some find this too restrictive, but I find it fun and challenging. Besides, they really only catch you if you cuss at the bar. So my advice: Sit at a booth. If you never been to Casey's, you are missing out. read more
