I had a very disappointing experience at Cask last Saturday. Despite requesting a 1:30 PM reservation in advance, I was advised to book for 3:15 PM to accommodate a large party of 10. Although I expressed concerns about the late booking, I was urged to proceed. However, I regretted this decision as soon as I arrived at the reservation. The kitchen was due to close in half an hour, and our waiter rushed us to order as soon as we sat down. His annoyance made my friends and I feel uncomfortable, so I pulled him aside to explain that we were celebrating a birthday and his sense of urgency was off-putting. The food was rushed and tasted undercooked, with the chicken in the chicken & waffles being uncooked and the muffin on the eggs benedict being rock hard and impossible to cut through. We felt that our experience was incomplete as the DJ left in the middle of our brunch, the kitchen closed early, and the restaurant was empty. To make matters worse, we were charged for singing "Happy Birthday" and for the waffle and sparkler, which left us feeling taken advantage of as young Black Americans celebrating a 23rd birthday. I do not understand why we were booked for such a late reservation if the restaurant knew they could not accommodate us properly. Overall, my experience at Cask was very disappointing, and I do not recommend it. I rarely leave reviews, but I feel it is unfair for anyone to have their special day ruined in this way. read more

My friends and I were trying to find a nice place to have a sit down birthday dinner for ten people. I had checked out Cask a couple times before and really liked it for their beer selection and comfy atmosphere. I described it to my friend like this "its kinda like having a beer in your home in the mountains with a bunch of your friends who all brought over a lot of REALLY good beer." I had their royale burger at the bar the first time I was there and the next time I had the salmon tartar for a appetizer- both were delicious- so I figured it'd be a good spot to try a sit down dinner w friends and we weren't disappointed at all! So ten of us roll into Cask and we were greeted by our server Alyssa, who was awesome, very nice girl who took care of the birth day dinner perfectly! We sat at a table in the middle of the dinning room that could have fit at least twelve people. We started the table off with a huge cheese plate and meat board that went with the wine we were drinking perfectly. The steaks we had were cooked to perfection and they have mashed potatoes that are to die for, I asked for another side they were so good=) They brought us a round of birthday shots, on the house, to send us out for the night! It couldn't have been any better. I'd say if your looking for a nice dinner with a date or just to go and have good beer at a comfortable bar- you should def check out Cask. read more

Great selection of bottled beer and beer on tap. The menu even provides the taste characteristics for each beer which is definitely a plus. The drinking water is provided to the tables in a large flip-top bottle however, our water was room temperature, not cold at all. Not a huge food menu but more than adequate. I ordered the Truffle Mac n Cheese and the Kobe beef sliders. The mac n cheese was served piping hot and was delicious. The three beef sliders were cooked just the way I ordered and served on a plank. Unfortunately, the pepperjack cheese and onion marmalade on the sliders overpowered the taste of the beef. My wife enjoyed her Sweet Potato Gnocchi which was served in a light basil cream sauce. The reclaimed wood floor and rough cut wood shelves along with the extensive candlelight make for an inviting atmosphere. The one drawback is that the tables are much too close together. We had to slide our table over to allow a lady at the neighboring table to get up. If you are looking for a great beer selection and good food in a quiet atmosphere then you might want to give Cask a try. read more

I just went to this bar for the first time last week, a friend recommended it and I loved everything about it. It's about time Murray hill has a neighborhood like bar with an amazing selection of beers. The food was GREAT! We had the Kobe Beef Sliders and the Cocktail Trio...Yum! The Staff is Unbelievably Friendly you feel like you've been going to this bar forever, it's like Cheers. Holly was our bartender and she was amazing! We briefly meet Jack as we were leaving and he came in. Holly made every suggestion from the drinks to the food and we loved all of it! The drinks were fresh, we had the Blood Orange martini and Ginger margarita...awesome! She mentioned the bar downstairs can be reserved for parties, this will be the place I have my next party when it comes up. I work in Murray Hill, so I do hang out in this area often. This isn't your typical 3rd Ave bar. There are no TVs and decorated with candles, which I like! Makes the atmosphere more settle and less rowdy. I was in this bar when it first opened with no kitchen. I recently came back from a two month work travel and decided to check out the menu this weekend with a few friends. we sat at the bar and I noticed the drink menu expanded and now they have two cask beers available and a lot more drinks! That's a plus! Jonathan our bartender was great, very welcoming. All of us sat down in the dining area for dinner. John was our waiter and he was very attentive and his suggestions about the menu were helpful. The Pork Belly was my favorite! I loved the Cask beer, the food, decor and the staff. My girlfriend and I love this place! have nothing but amazing things to say about this wonderful little treasure. So good! The ambiance at Cask Bar & Kitchen is amazing. My food has always been very good and I have very positive feelings towards the people running this place so hands on... Steak & frites - simply delicious. Great ingredients, well prepared and tasty! The staff was MORE than willing to walk a newbie such as myself through the different textures, tastes. The place was so friendly and the staff seemed to be genuinely happy to work there. Service was both impeccable and friendly. Blood orange jalapeno margaritas were perfect. The dessert too - Dark chocolate bread pudding with vanilla ice cream made our night complete. A friend found this place through Yelp. She called in advance to ask how long the wait was, we were told roughly about an hour and a half. We came there about twenty min later and were seated about twenty min after. The bartenders are really nice and honest. I inquired about a particular drink and he told me right away "it's not as good as you think, try this instead" which I appreciated. The decor is appropriate and nice, feels cozy for a busy place. The food was yummy! Truffle Mac and cheese was a hit as an appetizer at the table. I ordered the pasta carbonara with poached egg and really enjoyed it! I'm just sad I didn't try this place sooner when I live right around the corner. This is such a quaint place with a lot of atmosphere. Low key and trendy, this is the perfect dinner date spot or good for a small group. The service was very attentive, always refilling our water before it ran out, cleaning our table between courses, and the food came out quickly. The food is great. I started with the tuna and salmon tartare which was great, came with avocado and siracha sauce. For my entree I had the hanger steak. My steak was cooked exactly medium as I ordered. Went there a few weeks ago to have dinner--the artichoke gratin was great as was the pork belly sushi and the mussels cooked in brown ale and bacon. We were seated downstairs, with possibly the greatest human ever, Devin. I unbelievably left $1200 in cash in an envelope (rent money) at the table by accident AND WHEN I CALLED THE NEXT DAY, DEVIN HAD FOUND IT AND KEPT IT FOR ME. Overall, we had a nice experience. It took awhile to be served but the restaurant was packed. Our food was really good. We shared entrees because the portions were quite large, with the exception of the pot roast which was tasty but a little on the small side. The best part was the dessert. We tried the molten lava cake, crème brûlée, and vanilla wafer and banana pudding - each one divine. Been to this place a few times now, offers a different option to the usual Murray Hill bars. Had some appetizers at the bar, solid effort from the kitchen. Service was pretty good as they usually have plenty of staff on duty, atmosphere is relaxed.My reason for losing a star would be the price for a couple of drinks I had, don't get me wrong I don't mind paying for spirit forward cocktails or inventive craft drinks, but $11 for a Jameson and ginger, overpriced in any neighbourhood. read more

I'm new to the area and based on the reviews for this restaurant I decided to try it out. Went on a Sunday around 3pm for brunch and the place was not crowded at all. The ambiance is nice, great for dates. I had the southern fried chicken and waffles and my sister had the royal cow burger. The food wasn't out of this world extraordinary but it was good. I've been to Cask several times for dinner and the food is always delicious. I usually get a few of the small plates for the table to share and have always been impressed with the selection. My favorites are the brussel sprouts, mac and cheese, and nachos but you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. The drinks are good too. Nachos with lamb - not enough lamb and nachos whilst tasty, were greasy and more of the deep fried type. Mussels were ok but most fallen out of their shells and tiny. I came here a few weeks ago with my mother and my friend for brunch and they did not disappoint! The waitress was extremely accommodating and was even able to bring the agave on the side, as opposed to in the pitcher of the drink we got (which I believe was at a very reasonable price as well). The seating was fun, we sat at a long table with other diners, but didn't feel crowded by others. The food was great. I highly recommend. read more
