I randomly stumbled upon this bar and I'm so happy that I did! A friend and I was taking a leisurely walk towards Washington square park and passed this restaurant. Something about it intrigued me. While walking in, we were greeted by the amazing hostess who gave us the option of sitting inside or outside. Due to it being a beautiful day, we chose outside and was able to take in the restaurant as well as the bustle of New York City. While I can't comment on the food since we did not eat, the drinks at this place were delicious. I chose the lychee martini and was pleasantly surprised on how delicious it was. What got me about this place was the amazing conversations I had with the staff, the scenery and the drinks. If I had not eaten before, I would have loved to try their smash burger on the menu. I spent a day cocktail-crawling across the east village and lower east side. I basically made my way down the street, looking for interesting-looking spots, then going inside to see if I found any adventure. So when I saw the darkened entrance for "Short Stories," I thought why not see what's inside? I get the impression this place is undergoing a rebrand. The couple next to me seemed terribly disappointed with the offerings (it seems maybe they are changing the type/amount of food they offer from full service to small bites?). I wasn't worried about that . . . I was here for the cocktails. I started with the Kensington (botanist gin, mint, cucumber, tonic, lemon), the heart to heart (Bette vodka, monkey 47 gin, blood orange, mint, and tonic), as well as the Noho (del maguey vida mezcal, cyan, sweet vermouth). None of the drinks were particularly memorable. I also wanted a quick snack, but they didn't have the fries available . . . I got the cauliflower, which I found overly sweet, with the outer coating falling off. The main reason this spot gets knocked down to three stars is toward the end of my stay, I waited a very, very, very long time for my last drink. I actually had to get someone passing by to tell them I still hadn't received it. I'm pretty sure they forgot about me, as the bartender was quite busy with a group of young girls, snapping photos and having a great time. Don't get me wrong . . . I'm not hard to please. The bartender was nice enough. You can see that most of my reviews are generous, almost always five stars, sometimes four. I don't do three or below often. I don't need a lot of attention. The food was shared family style, we got a lot of different dishes and everything was delicious. The service was fantastic. I passed by this spot on Bowery on a Friday night. It had a lovely decor but was quiet. It seemed like they may have just opened for the night, and we were the first customers. The decor and the variety of liquor on display attracted me because I'm always looking for a good cocktail bar. Short Stories definitely didn't disappoint. I ordered my signature cocktail a Boulevardier, and our bartender Miguel made us a mighty fine drink. He also made a mocktail for my friend who doesn't drink alcohol. I can't wait to come back. This spot is totally not what I expected to walk into. Came to visit my amazing mixologist friend, Edward, who is the bar manager and bartender under their new management, and was blown away at the cute ambiance and lounge vibes. The cocktails are A1 and the food, though maybe a little pricey, was DELICIOUS- that beef tartare is next level, I would eat everything on this menu. Food is served til 10pm every night, even on weekends when they have a DJ. Theyre going to bring back some daily drink specials from 5p-7pm so stay tuned. Great job! read more

I came here last night for a friends birthday party, there was about 15 of us. The place accommodated us and the host was very welcoming and the staff was attentive and friendly . They do family style meals for large parties. We had the burrata, octopus, sliders , and crab cakes. The food was delicious my favorite was the octopus it was very well seasoned and I loved the sauce . The drinks are also very strong and tasty, they have an array of interesting cocktails as well as standard wine and beer. I recommend the blue drink it's basically a pisco sour with a bit of a sweet touch to it . For dessert we had homemade strawberry cheesecake which was absolutely delicious. The place turns into a club after 10:30 . They play top 100 music but it's not my scene as far the dancing goes . It gets very crowded and is small but they do allow you to do a private party and close off a section of the dance floor if you pay extra ! Def worth it for food and drinks though ! read more

When we left Short Stories last Saturday night, I was dead set on giving them a five star review, however I'm unfortunately taking away a star because we were charged for an item we didn't even order! I tried calling the restaurant to see if we can rectify the situation, but the line is always busy, so sadly you won't be getting five stars from me. We were HUNGRY when we arrived, so we ordered way too much food, which was all unbelievably delicious! The French fries full of flavor and very crispy, and accompanied with a fantastic red pepper dipping sauce. I will argue that the pesto pasta is the best pesto I've ever had, and possibly the best pesto pasta in the city! The chicken was tender, full of flavor, and on the side delicious buckwheat and yogurt dressing. My roomie had a Virgin Watermelon Mojito and I had a regular Watermelon Mojito. A little strong for my taste, but the other flavors made it a very refreshing drink. We ended our meal with chocolate pudding that was so rich and chocolaty! Our waitress was a delight, and I'm very impressed with their outdoor seating area, as well as how seriously the staff took Covid-19 hygiene. When I got home and looked at our receipt, I noticed that we were charged for the white chocolate tart, which we did not have (although I'm sure it's also fantastic). I've tried calling the restaurant, but have had no luck getting through, and I do not like that I paid for something I didn't eat. Thus I cannot give a five star review. Definitely an excellent place to eat dinner, the food is phenomenal and Short Stories takes their Covid-19 preventions very seriously. read more

My roommate and I went to Short Stories for a happy hour service and we were blown away by the service and the food! They seated us right away and our order was served quickly, piping hot, and perfectly fresh. We've been to many happy hours throughout the city, but we were really not expecting the bar to be set this high by the drinks and food we were served. The french fries were nicely crisp, seasoned, and we could taste that the oil itself was fresh (this makes a difference to us). We had them with the avocado ranch that was the perfect compliment to the mild saltiness of the fries. We also got the lumpia that were crunchy on the outside, but filled with nicely seasoned, juicy beef on the inside. I had a pineapple daiquiri to start with, which was also perfectly balanced in terms of tartness and sweetness, with a mild, but pleasant spiciness. But the two items that really stood out to us and alone are reasons for us to come back: the crab croquettes and the turkish espresso martinis. The croquettes were crisp on the outside and topped off with a decadent and rich saffron cream. The inside was fluffy and moist, and the crab was FRESH. We're so glad we got an order each, because it was without exaggeration that good! The espresso martinis were smooth and brilliantly balanced, and honestly much better in quality than many places I've tried this at. The martinis also delivered a pleasant buzz after two drinks. read more

This is a new bar that just opened up on a great lively stretch of Bowery. They also happen to have a full menu of some great food that is definitely worth stopping in to try even if you don't drink. They just opened tonight and I stopped in to try a couple things. Start with the Guacamole ($10), which comes with Duros, these really great wheat flour crackers I've never actually seen in a restaurant before but always see all over Queens in huge bags hanging off street vendor carts. I also had the Story Burger ($18), Impossible style, which was really excellent and comes with perfectly crispy fries, and the Tlayuda ($18), a really great take on a Oaxacan style "pizza". I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the food and the brunch menu too. read more

Went here for the first time last night and was blown away. They've found a way to make such simple food just so delicious. I think I can say their spicy feta cheese dip that came out with an appetizer was the best dip I've ever had. And their buffalo chicken sandwich was just phenomenal. Bread Basket: the coffee cake is pretty good, ube muffins are a little under baked, sweet cheese croissant was good, szechuan scones were a little much for my taste Extremely online pancakes: honestly the only thing that was worth ordering! Cheesy naan: very bland and the naan was very hard Curry poached eggs: the curry flavor is incredibly overpowering For drinks I tried to order the pear cocktail but they were out of pear syrup so it was subbed with rose. I debated writing a review because of the circumstances that are placed on restaurants due to Covid-19, however, a few days later and I still cannot fathom how awful our service was. The drinks and food we ordered were fine, but due to the service I will not be returning. It was not a busy time with only about 20% of their tables occupied while I was there. With that being said, it took our server having to come over and ask for our drink order twice to remember that we already ordered and get us our first round of drinks 25 minutes after we had been sitting at the table. When we did receive the drinks, the server brought out the wrong drink for my friend and when we said something she walked away and didn't come back until 15 minutes later to take our food order. At this point, my friend mentioned again that she brought her the wrong drink, to which the server rolled her eyes and passive aggressively took back the wrong drink (that we hadn't touched) to bring her the right one 10 minutes later. After the drinks fiasco, we had simply ordered a pancake to split because we had already been there almost an hour and at that point, wanted to leave. The server messed up our simple food order and was again visibly annoyed when we told her it was wrong. She then ignored our table the rest of the time until we were finally able to get her attention for the check. All in all, we spent 1.5 hours at this restaurant for 2 drinks and a pancake because the service was so horrendous and quite frankly, rude. On top of everything, when we received our check, the server had told us she comp'd the drink (that we didn't order in the first place) on the house, as if she was doing us a favor. The pancake and drinks were great, but I refuse to return because of the service. read more

Short Stories is everything I want in a restaurant. They have vegan/vegetarian options but also food with meat to keep everyone happy. The dishes are unique and different. There are so many I want to try. The decor is on point with pastels, great lighting, and a hint of the tropics and there was good music playing. We had the Impossible Burger which if you haven't tried you must! (It's as delicious as a Whopper only no animals died). Fries were McDonalds-esque but have some spices on them (if you hate spice ask for them sans spice) and a delicious aioli. Now I'm making it sound like a fast food restaurant but it is not at all (see pictures of the menu). There are many healthy options here as well that I am eager to try next time. read more

Let's get down to the deetz: Ambience: This is actually why my friends and I chose this place, it was extremely cute. Their outdoor seating was painted completely pink and there are fresh flowers at the table. I love the music that was playing, this place definitely looked fresh and fun. Good job for the charming vibe while being in such a dreary time (covid). Service: This is where the good news stops and the rest goes downhill. The service here is definitely a roller coaster. Some of the staff here are hospitable and sweet, and some are not. I think COVID has left this business extremely understaffed, but also our waiter was rude and passive aggressive. (not a good combo) We definitely did not feel accommodated many times during the meal. Our food came out late, and after one of my friends ordered another drink that came out extremely late as well. After a disappointing meal, we were rushed out even though my friend had not finished the second drink she had ordered. Our server rudely brought out our check and stood there. (Are you a server or security in the front of Walmart??) I found this extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. I'm not sure what they were insinuating but it definitely left a bad taste in our mouths, if the food didn't do that for us already. Food: There is definitely nothing to write home about here with the food, also I am going to repeat every dish came out late. The roasted carrot salad was boring, excessively oily, and flavorless. I thought I was eating hospital food. The brioche bun on my burger was dry and stale. Also I had ordered the burger medium well and I received something in between medium rare and a rare burger, this was late as well. Were they even listening to my order?? There is a huge difference between medium well and whatever I had received. Dying of starvation I just couldn't bother dealing with our catty server's attitude to correct the order and ate my mushy raw burger. This place is small but really great. Aesthetically it's super cute. And if you come during an off time (we came at 4pm on a Saturday) the place is empty and you can enjoy yourself without it being crowded. We just came for bevis, and tried one of the cocktails and the flavored vodka sodas. The watermelon and basil and sweet cucumber varieties tasted like summer in a glass. The cocktail, which was whisky-based was well balanced too. We'll be back to try the food and probably definitely for brunch. I also like that the food will be rotating based on the chef/concept. Jam Jar Wines hosted the Zodiac Cocktails event here. The space is small and seems like an after hours bars for some unwinding before heading to the next spot. I did not sample any food made there but the staff was really nice. They really maximized several areas to make the space more intimate and fun. Came here on a work date and was pleasantly surprised. They had a pretty good happy hour until 7pm and I got the happy hour cocktail (which was one of the cocktails on their normal menu). It had mezcal and mango and was strong, but not too strong to drink. Also got the burger and fries. Was so impressed by the burger, the sauce on it was so flavorful and really made it. The fries were extra crispy, thin, and had a really delicious seasoning and sauce on the side. The girl I was with got the avocado salad which was small but looked good and was presented really beautifully. She also got the cauliflower which looked amazing and was a good portion size.
