Again! Brian and Lynette continue to make me happy I found them (with a little help from a friend). They had a chance to tell me that I had an expensive electric problem today and chose to let me know that I had accidentally turned something off. A mechanic you can trust is one of the great things in life. I'm mystified by people who didn't like an over the phone best guess at an estimate and give honest people a nasty review when they didn't have any work done there. But ... I'm glad they don't come there so all the happy customers don't have a hard time getting an appointment. read more

There's nothing more stressful than having unexpected issues with your vehicle. This past week, I had rolled my windows down due to the great weather we were having and when I tried to roll my windows up my switch broke; leaving my window completely open. This happened around 6pm in the evening so I had to clean out the garage so I could park the car inside (what a hassle!) After about an 45 minutes of cleaning out the garage, I finally came inside to research where I should take my window to be fixed. Using the search function on Yelp it listed multiple auto repair places in the area. I read through most of them and had picked three places to check out. As you can tell, Caspian Auto Care (formerly Gary's Auto Electric) caught my eye with a 5 star rating! So the next morning I went to Caspian and met Maks; the owner and a really nice gent who quoted me a fair price on fixing my window switches. The service was prompt, professional and done with in the time he quoted me. My windows were fixed and I was on my way. The other two repair shops that I went to to get a quote from did not offer good customer services as Caspian and was about $50-$80 more that what I paid at Caspian. Definitely come check Caspian Auto Care and ask for them to bid on your auto repair needs. Maks will do everything he can to be competitive and win your business. read more

The owner (Steven) of Caspian is a Great guy, he is very nice and polite, and most of all Honest. I was expecting to pay upwards of $1000 or more to replace the oil pump in my Yukon XL, which I self diagnosed , I told him it was most likely the oil pump, he could have gone with that and I wouldn't have known any better, however, he said it was common for the sensors to go out in my particular vehicle, and that would only be a few hundred dollars, well, he was correct, thank goodness it saved me a lot of money and built a lot of trust with him. I normally don't trust mechanics at all, but you can tell that he is honest and sincere. He also took great care of of my wife's car. I had been going to Caspian for my car needs for almost two years now and have never been disappointed in the service. I brought three of my past cars for oil changes, tire changes, sensor changes, spark plug replacements, and so much more. Steve is up front and honest about what my cars needed and never pushed to do anything more than what I had asked for. He tells me what is needed for the car and it is up to me to decide whether I have it worked on on my own or whether I ask him to have it done in the future. I am fortunate enough to work so close by that I can park my car, leave the car keys at the shop, and let them take the time to work on it until I need to go home at the end of the day. Steve is really good at responding through text and telling me whether he has availability or not. I made an appointment for a wheel alignment on a Friday for the following Tuesday. When I brought in my car, I told Caspian that I needed the car back no later than 3p. I figured since I made the appointment in advance, it would be one of the cars that would be looked at first. However, when I called at 12:30p, they said the car was recently put up to be inspected and then they were going on lunch break and I would receive a call to let me know what the timeframe would be. I figured a 1 and half hours for lunch should be enough. So I asked my friend to drop me off. It was 2p and the place was closed. I figured I'd have to wait an extra 15 minutes. They didn't return from lunch until 3:15p. I was already late picking my daughter up from Oakland, even though I told them I needed it back by 3p. I hate writing bad reviews and barely ever write them as I know that things do happen. But at least I expect some communication. The sign on the front door said that if they weren't back, they would be back by X time. But the clock stating that time was blank. I couldn't even leave because I really needed to pick up my daughter. So I just kept waiting outside in the ever disappearing shade in 105 degree whether without a ride and zero communication. For a place that has so many different 5 star reviews, I wanted so much to find a reliable place near me. But sadly, Caspian is not that place. I had the BEST experience at an automotive place...EVER! I'm your typical blonde female, worried about being taken advantage of at an auto shop. Contrary to my worries, I was actually talked out of part of the work on the car due to cost and practicality of the work to be done. Prices were reasonable, I got a fabulous education about my car and the work done in laymans terms, he showed me my air filter and chided me on going so long without taking care of it. After calling around and comparing pricing and customer service over the phone, I decided Caspian Auto Care was going to be my new auto shop. I spoke with Mack, who was extremely friendly, quoted an EXCELLENT price, and made me feel comfortable about their work. I needed a good amount of work done on my car (120K service, and new struts all around), I dropped it off that morning and it was done by 4pm that day. The original quoted price was my final price. Can't endorse this business enough. The car was making a loud grinding noise, and the steering felt really sluggish. Oh, my car is an old beat up '97 Nissan Quest with 200K on it, with two wheels in the junk yard of eternity. Not the kind of car that elicits respect or quality service. Basically, looks cheap. After reading the Yelp reviews, I decided to try it out. We recently move to San Ramon, and my regular mechanic in Santa Clara was too far to go to. I dropped the car off at night, left the keys in the night drop with authorization to spend up to $150. The next day I got a call by noon that the car was fixed and total damage was only $75. Problem was I was low on power steering fluid. He charged me for 30 minutes of labor, and the fluid, and an inspection of all the hoses, car on the rack. While I felt the charge was a little excessive for what was done, he spent time with me at pick going over what to do with the car, expected problems, what I had done in the past etc. etc. He spent almost 30 minutes with me, and not once did he make me feel rushed or like I was intruding on his work on the other cars, and there were lots of them, and all of them were more expensive than mine. Point is, it was obvious that I wasn't a high roller, but he made me feel like one. Thank you Mack. I'll be back, I'm sure. You have earned my business, both for this piece of junk that I'm driving, and my wife's Volvo S80, and anyone else I can refer to your business. Nice clean shop and waiting area to. ps. He is very thorough and will review all repairs and cost with you in detail. Also, Brian is a super smart tech. He finds and explains issues that the larger shops completely pass over. I went to Caspian this past week and found the new owners settled in and up and running. I am very picky about who works on my car since I work in the field and know what a crap shoot it is to have anyone touch your car. The shop was so clean and organized. I was taken in without an appointment and treated like family. The tech quickly diagnosed my problem and I was given a quote that was less then I had been quoted at another shop in the area. When they put my car on the lift is was noted that my tires were bald on the front! I was taken into the shop and the tech showed me my wheel bearing was noisy and my tires were dangerous. I approved the work and left my car. When I came back they work was complete. My problem was gone and my car drove beautifully. I'm super happy with the work that was done, with the price, and with the level of customer service they provided. This is definitely the place to take you car. read more

One of the most elusive things in my life has been finding a good mechanic. I've searched and either they give me this very shady feeling or they irritate the hell out of my feminist sensibilities by treating me as though I cannot understand the basic workings of a car. But my search is finally over. I took my truck to Mack after it failed it's smog test on 7 (yes, seven) counts. Instead of feeding me a bunch of crap about how I really need to get a new... everything... Mack told me that he wanted to start with what he thought the root of the problem was (basically a total tune up, wiring and all) and then go from there. And it worked. My truck is functioning better and smog check is golden and it only cost me $492 ($8 shy of the quote he gave me). Took our car to Mack to have a major tune up done. He was very friendly, thorough and took the time to explain what he was doing and why he suggested what he did. The work was done fairly quickly for a fair price. He seems like a very trustworthy person that likes to build relationships and work via word of mouth. I came here because I was told my brakes were bad by several family and friends. I had the mechanics look at it. They raised the car and took the wheel off and asked me to come over. I went over and to my surprise they told me I didn't need to change the brakes. Saved me a ton of money. These guys are honest! That's not easy to come by from a mechanic. If you want a good mechanic who is HONEST come here! This was my first time here and I'm coming back! P.S I asked to tip them they said no thank you AND they reset the maintenance light for free! My son brought his dads car in to fix scratches on the hood he made while cleaning his car. He called the owner and brought the car by so he could take a look. The owner said he could buff it out for 30 dollars and to leave it for half an hour to an hour and a half. He couldn't leave it that day but brought it back a few days later. The owner wasn't there but my son explained it to the man at the desk and he said he would take car if him. He told my son the scratch was deeper so it would take a little longer. My son left the car and having never owned a car didn't get an estimate and one wasn't offered. When the car was ready my son wasn't available so I picked it up. The person at the office explained that they buffed out the scratches and also did the headlights as well at no additional charge but he charged me $270 for buffing the scratches. I was shocked. I told him my son was paying for this and that was not the agreement. He said it took them longer and this was the price. I told him he should have not done any work not agreed upon. I think this was very shady and felt taken advantage of. Of course I paid because the person doing the work had to get paid. My son contacted the owner left a message on the owners cell after and it has been 3 days with no response so I feel compelled to write this review. This was a very expensive lesson for my son. read more

Not sure how these people get good reviews. I called today to inquire about having a replacement suspension installed on my Navigator and was quoted almost 2x the prices at all the other places I had called. I purchased a complete replacement kit for the airbags on my car from Strut Masters and it's a simple bolt on replacement. Remove the airbags and drop in the new Springs and Struts. When I told the lady on the phone it seemed a little pricey, she acted all condescending and said well good luck bye. Wtf? Really? Did I mention I had my Jeep serviced there? And didn't get the same treatment the last time. Tho, the Jeep wasn't fixed properly that time either so what was I thinking calling them back? Stupid me. Edit. I love that I was called back almost immediately and berated for a bad review. As well as being called an A-Hole...yes, the owner called me an A Hole when I said I was busy and this conversation was over. Nice. read more

My husband and I were referred to Caspian Auto Car through a friend. We have a Lincoln Town Car and the reverse was not working in the transmission. When put in reverse it just wouldn't move. All of the other gears worked properly. We took our car to Caspian Auto to have them repair the reverse on the transmission. Lynette and Brian were nice and friendly. We dropped the car off and they said they would take car of it. When we heard back from them, they said the transmission needed to be replaced. They said they would replace it with a remanufactured transmission. We were told that they weren't sure of the price to repair the transmission until they took it apart so they could see what the problem was. This seemed a little odd, since they said they were going to replace our transmission with a remanufactured transmission. You would think they would simply take ours out and put the new one in, right? We got a call from them saying our car was fixed and ready for pick up. The first time we were notified of the price, was when the car had already been fixed. Not any mention of the prices whatsoever before any repairs were done. Not once. Did they call to let us know once they knew what exact problem was? Nope. Or maybe call us to let us know what the estimated charges would be once they figured out the problem? Nope. The bill came to $3,604.19!! $2,315 for the "remanufactured" transmission and $750 for labor. We both were shocked, but our car was fixed. So we thought....... As soon as we drove away, we could tell right away it wasn't shifting properly. When you are driving and let off the gas and then accelerate again, you can feel a slip and it makes a clunking noise. When shift the car from drive to reverse it is very hard to do and also makes a clunking noise. None of this was an issue before the repair. We notified Brian immediately and we came back in to have him look it at. He mentioned that it takes time for the transmission to break in, which is understandable. He made a few adjustments to the transmission as well. It still wasn't shifting properly as I mentioned above. Brian then basically told us that his work was done and if there are any more issues to go to Shucks Transmissions, also in Dublin. Are you kidding me? I paid you $3,604.19 and you're telling me to go somewhere else? We went to you guys to have our car fixed, not Shucks. If we went to Shucks in the beginning, we would go there to have him look at it, but we didn't. Apparently, that's where Caspian Auto Care sources their "remanufactured" transmissions. Brian could see we were frustrated and showed my husband the busted reverse band and the gear they replaced, along with some other shims/parts. None of which can be verified they came from our car. We then found out that they didn't actually put a remanufactured transmission in our car. They just replaced the reverse band and gear!! $2,315 for that? What a complete joke. I can't even believe the nerve of these people. $3,604.19 and the transmission is still not fixed. Lynette wrote down all the problems we still had with the transmission and the car. She did so with what we explained to Brian and gave me husband a copy of it. I have included a picture with my review. When I went in and asked Lynette for a copy of this document, she became very defensive and rude! Demanding, "what do you need that for?!" Does it matter? No, it doesn't. That's when I started to realize something was fishy. We all know mechanics, not all, are known for being shady. Especially, with transmissions. They can easily say its rebuilt, change only the parts needed and the normal customer would never know the difference. Keep in mind these places make a lot of money on parts. The reverse gear and band do not cost $2,315 and labor to replace them should not be $750. Now they want me to go to Shucks and pay more money to have it looked at? Get real. I can only assume they are in on it together. I wouldn't trust either place. This sort of thing probably happens all the time. Most people wouldn't know how to catch this sort of thing, luckily we did. Be careful people, you never know when people like Brian and Lynette are trying to scam you. Make sure you do a little research before taking your car anywhere to be fixed. $2,315 to replaced a busted reverse band and gear? And $750 for labor? I don't think so. I'll be filing a claim with our credit card company disputing the charges and well as filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Last month I paid my Jeep off and then the very next day it started intermittently stalling and continued to do so. (Gotta love Murphy's Law) I took it to my mechanic twice where they tried but failed to diagnose the problem. A co-worker of mine overheard me talking about it and chimed in to let me know she too owned a Jeep a few years ago and had the SAME EXACT problem where her mechanic couldn't diagnose it either but then he referred her to Gary's Auto Electric where they pinpointed the problem right away and it was fixed that day. Rad. Ok, so I took her recommendation and went to Gary's. Sure enough they figured it out RIGHT AWAY, ordered the part and had it fixed within 2 1/2 hours after I got there!! AMAZING!!! And the price was right. When I first got there I told them I would go shop for a bit while they worked on it and one of the mechanics even offered me a ride and dropped me off at a shopping center down the street. He then told me to call the shop if I needed a ride back. Talk about impeccable customer service! Gary wasn't there that day but Alfredo and.. I didn't get the other guy's name who gave me the ride, were and I have to say these guys were super professional, very friendly and honest. I live in San Leandro but I am going to take my Jeep here for service FROM NOW ON. It's worth my peace of mind. I recommend this auto shop to anyone who wants the job DONE RIGHT. read more

I took my car in about a month ago to get a water pump replaced. The water pump was replaced, sure. However, in putting the car back together, these people did not do a very good job. The radiator cap was loose. I'm not sure the coolant was ever replaced, just drained: due to the radiator cap being loose, there wasn't any left. The timing belt was a tooth off. One of the hoses that was in the way of the water pump was not bolted down, and I did not receive the bolt. I took my car to a mechanic because even though I do most of my own work, I wanted to be sure all the little things would be done properly. They were not. 2 stars because at least I have a new water pump. read more

In response to a couple of "one star" reviews out there. Brian and Lynette are honest and don't treat people the way you describe. Everyone has a bad day once in a while including a "five star business." If you were graded at your job every day, would you get five stars? You really think their page would be filled with "five stars" if they were shady? Car repairs can be expensive. I wish they weren't but thats the real world but do you know how many times I've been worried about something on my car and Brian said, "It's not a big deal, don't spend the money." OMG they are great. 4 weeks ago my old 1999 explorer started making very awful noise from both front and back part. Of course I would not know exactly what the problem is and where the noise was coming from. So I decided to take it to Mac ( I probably misspelling his name ) for it to check out what is wrong with my old SUV They took a look at the car and diagnosed the problem very fast and fixed it with a very affordable price. I usally chose my mechanic based on the trust and customer service they give. I should mention : In the last 6 years I did not mind driving from east bay to daly city to a mechanic I knew that i would be well taken care of (unfortunately he left the country last year for good). I do not like taking my car to a generic service (a big shop) where my old car will not be taken care of as well as they would be in a small place. So although their shop is very close to my store, I did not take my car there becasue of proximity. I took my old car to Caspian Auto care becasue of the good reviews on yelp. Anyways : They did an amazing job with affordable pricing.
