My fiancée and I stayed here a few weeks ago, and once we got there we were super tired, as we had drove 6 hours to get there. The moment we walked in the office, the guy at the desk, Robert, was rude and smug. It was really off-putting, I've generally had a really good experience staying in the hotels on moonstone drive, and I've never experienced customer service as distasteful as that. Mom and I checked in on Christmas Eve and didn't know what we were in for but wow such a lovely little spot. This place was comfy, clean, the staff was nice and the view across from this place was beautiful. I highly recommended this spot to anyone looking to getting away. Clean and comfortable with really nice service. The bed was too stiff for us and the bedding was minimal. For the price and for being across the street from the beach it was fine for a short stay. Will try other places I've read about since my stay here as some of them sound amazing even if the price is a bit steeper! Great Location, Clean fresh rooms, nicely landscape property right across the Pacific Ocean.

They don't lie, it is a great family place, very bare bones, but everything was clean and welcoming. We did have a view of the ocean and could hear the waves at night. Having stayed at the other places owned by the same group, I was a bit jealous, but this was all that was available during the busy holiday weekend. My biggest complaint was that a large group was drinking and took over the outside area all day, making it difficult for anyone else to use it. All in all, worth the price, though! read more

This hotel is simply awesome! The rooms are comfy, uber clean and have an ocean view! Affordable and a beach view - it doesn't get much better - except they do!! I was absolutely flabbergasted when I got a call a couple hours after checking out that I had left my iPhone charger in the room and did I want them to mail it to me?? OMG, who does that??? The beds were so comfy. I slept better then I ever had at home. The guy at the front was really nice and recommended some good restaurants. The TV was a flat screen and very high quality. They give you all you need- refrigerator, cups (plastic), tissues, some toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body and facial soap, and plenty of toilet paper). You are given an overwhelming amount of various towels, which is nice. On the downside, our shower barely sprayed any water, and there was basically no pressure when it did. That may just be a problem with the room I was in and not in every room though. There is no microwave, but that wasn't too big of a deal for staying last night. Just a heads up tho! Giving this 5 stars because it met every expectation/need. Cambria is a grate stop half way from San Fransisco to LA. There is a cute little town right next to the hotel with plenty of restaurant choices. The hotel is on a rocky beach with excellent views. The harbor seals rest right off shore of the hotel. 15 minutes north their is also an elephant seal viewing area. The room is spacious and the bed is comfy. The room was clean and spacious, the bed was comfortable, they included wifi and a continental breakfast (however we went to the town for a full sit down breakfast). Only complaint was the hot tub didn't seem to hot, which was ok because it's so windy I couldn't imagine getting out if I had gone in. And the shower could have been bigger but that's nitpicking, the overall experience was great and the castle inn is worth the money read more

This place was great for what we needed. The room was clean. No issues at all. The front desk gave me a toothbrush cause some how I forgot mine. Thank you front desk. They also gave me bandaids for my blisters from new shoes. (I'm a mess) my boyfriend and I thought the breakfast was okay. They had cereal, yogurt, breads, milk, muffins... its more of a lite breakfast but it will do. I enjoyed it. The location is literally across the street to the ocean. There is a walking trail also, very nice. Overall I would stay again. read more

Across the road from the beach where there is a boardwalk. You can walk along the boardwalk towards town and then catch another trail for a nice 3-4 mile walk. Friendly staff and clean rooms. New owners appear to be working on remodeling. read more

THIS IS AN AWESOME PLACE TO STAY! The rooms are nice, clean and quiet, the cost is affordable, the breakfast is free and you have a good start to your day. The very best thing the Inn has to offer is the view!!!! It has a wonderful full view of the ocean just across the street. You are with in steps of beautiful Moonstone Beach. There is a great boardwalk that runs for miles. Two doors down is Moonstone Grill, a nice place for lunch and dinner. We will stay here again, and recommend it to anyone visiting Cambria. read more

The castle inn is so cute and has one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen! I also enjoyed the staff, who were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The rooms are very clean and a great size. We had a family get together here on a holiday week-end - the price was right and the value was perfect. Nice and clean, loved being able to drink morning coffee facing the ocean sitting in an Adirondack chair. The breakfast had healthy choices and very good coffee and all staff encountered were friendly and helpful. Definitely plan to come here again. read more

Its lokated in a nice area at the ocean. The receptionist is very friendly and the room is clean. Unfortunetly the fridge is very noisy and smal. Over all it's expensive but for the nice area is acceptable. read more

Our windows in room #15 did not lock nor did the heater work. I called the front desk, which was sent to another hotel Moonstone Cottages and spoke to a female and asked her if she had any types of locks or maybe sticks to put in the window jam to keep from opening. She said no. The phone was handed to Robert and he too told me that they didn't have any sticks. I asked to him to put us in another room. He chuckled and stated "how is that supposed to help you?" I replied "I don't feel safe in this room and the windows should then be able to lock in another room". He then replied "all our rooms are full". I then asked for my money back since I do not feel safe with unlockable windows plus the screen was hanging off. Robert did a loud sigh and stated "meet me in the lobby in 15 minutes". Robert came to my room and saw that the window did not lock, he gave my husband a key to another room #4, then took it back stating "you have double beds, I'll be back". He came back with another key for room #14. At this point, me, my husband and daughter were all outside the hotel room with our luggage after 1030 PM, Robert asked for our keys. I had trouble finding my key and noticed he was more frustrated. I asked him "are you okay? You seemed pissed?" He did not reply, but gave me a smirk and continued chewing on a toothpick of some sort. Robert demeanor and lack of professionalism was uncalled for. He lied to us that no other room were available, when he tried to set us up in room #4 then move to # 14. We paid for our services which were not delivered! He made it appear that WE were at fault for the bathroom and front windows not locking or the screen window hanging off or the heater not working properly. Robert stated that his job was "night auditor"...well guess what? He lacks doing that job also! read more

Stayed at the Castle Inn for one night with our dogs in a pet-friendly room. The previous occupants clearly had a cat which decided to relieve itself on the carpet - the smell was not masked by the high dose of air freshener applied before our check in. Staff was friendly but dealing with problems such as no light in the reception area. This hotel needs a better electrician - all the lights on the first floor are on one circuit which was tripping because of the rain. Cheap but still overpriced for what you get. Just because you are traveling with a pet does not mean you should have a stinky room - stayed at much better pet friendly hotels on this trip with clean fresh smelling rooms. Will not be back at the Castle Inn. read more

My parents, husband and I visited the Castle Inn this weekend for a one night stay after wine tasting. The rates for this place were good, so we decided to check it out. Although I would probably only give the rooms/hotel itself 3-stars in terms of overall comfort/quality, I added an extra star for the wonderful customer service and kind employees who work at the Castle Inn. At check-in, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, even offering to make us a reservation for our meal that night. I've stayed at nicer hotels with far less accomodating staff. Our room itself was just okay. The shower was very tiny, especially for my husband who is tall and broad shouldered. The bed was comfortable, however, and I liked the ceiling fan. Overall, I might try other places in Cambria personally before returning to the Castle Inn, but would definitely recommend this hotel to people visiting who want something comfortable and reasonably priced. read more

We stayed here because we had a Living Social deal and for the location. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and prefer not to stay inside the room because I love exploring. I'm giving it 4 stars because the staff were very friendly, professional, and accommodating and also for the price. The breakfast was appropriate and a lot better than other hotels. They had Peerless regular and decaf coffee (very important),hot cocoa for the kids, milk, orange jc and hot and cold water. They had olallieberry pastries with other selections,2 choices of Kashi oatmeal (maple and apple cinnamon), yogurt, fruits and hard boiled egg. I eat light breakfast and for me it's a lot, but for my kids and hubbie, just enough. Some hotels will just give you cheap sugary muffins and coffee for complimentary breakfast! It is also a stone's throw away from Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill which is a very good place for family and a great view of the beach and sunset! The room had a fridge, tv, bath soap and the usual stuff and complimentary Wi-Fi! The manager offered us some board games like pictionary quick draw which we borrowed and had a nice family game on our second night. It has a small swimming pool outside and deck chairs out overlooking the beach where you can hang out. It is right across the boardwalk to go further into the beach where one can view the rocks and harbor seals especially in the morning where one can practice yoga amidst nature. The only negative I can say is the shower door dripping water on the floor wetting the bath mat and we had to put more towels on the floor. The bed was not comfortable but the room was clean and quiet. read more

This is a very clean hotel. There wasn't a spot or stain anywhere. I liked that the sheets smelled of bleach. This is a room to sleep in not to feel luxury. I would stay here again and again. Customer service is excellent. The continental breakfast is not worth having. read more

First off let me state that I am not a person who normally stays in Hiltons or hyatts I'm more middle of the road when it comes to hotels... I usually pick best western or comfort inn and am completely content. That being said this place makes a rundown motel 6 look like a five star hotel. The ONLY pro to this hotel is their front desk staff. When we checked in they were extremely friendly however on our check out when we mentioned a couple of our complaints the employee simply said yes we are going to be fixing that. Ugh! Don't rent out a room knowing there are serious problems!! Ok so the complaints: dirty sheets! Yep we laid down and the sheets smelled like cigarettes and sweaty head. The bed is the most uncomfortable thing ever! I am 29 and the next morning I was walking like a 90 year old. The room smelt of mildew which is no surprise considering there was a leak in the roof which more than likely means mildew!! The bathroom was very small no bathtub only extremely small shower. Our "ocean view" was a view of the pool... The hot tub was so small it was for 2 people comfortably. The pool was not heated. They are priced competitively with some very nice hotels on the same road so spend your money wisely and choose any other hotel! This was hands down the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel... If there was a way to leave negative stars I would. read more

This place is 4 walls and a window. But if you compare the prices of the adjoining hotels, you might find this place is a steal. The room is that... just a room. The beds are typically uncomfortable. What sets this place apart is the customer service I received from Kammy. (I think she's one of the hotel managers) Hands down... the best customer service ever. When we were searching for a place to dine... she was with me on the phone for a solid 10 minutes helping us decide... She's very affable and quick to smile. Our room had a 40 in. flat screen T.V. (which is better than most still offer these days) Shower, no tub. The continental breakfast they served consisted of small danishes and cereal. Hot coffee and orange juice. Not the best ... but far from the worst. The hotel's access to the beach is great. :) A more comfortable bed would have earned this hotel 4 stars in my opinion. read more

Checked into this motel after a very long drive from Sacramento on my way home to Southern California. Checked prices at a few of the different hotels on Moonstone beach drive, ultimately decided on this one because it was mid-priced and looked cute from the outside. Older male and female run the facility, and are somewhat talkative. After checking into our room, we were so tired from driving we just wanted to relax for a few minutes, so we didnt bother getting our luggage out of the car. Upon entering the room, noticed that everything is very outdated...facility appears to be clean...but outdated...and I'll go ahead and say ugly. Had to use the restroom, went to flush and the paper just swooshed around...not good....tried again...nothing. Took another look around the room, said this place wasnt for us...and headed back to the lobby. Got into the lobby, pulled the gal aside to let her know about the toilet issue (because there was another guest in the lobby). She went and checked the toilet and came back and pointed her finger at me, and said "you know what I think? I think you came here just to use the bathroom". I was shocked, and appalled. I explained to her, that after a 4 hour drive from Sacramento, passed numerous restaurants, hotels, rest stops, gas stations and public beaches, I wouldnt slap my credit card down for $166 to use the bathroom. After some arguing and even her inspecting my spouses police department identification and badge, and us offering to clean the toilet ourselves, the male employee or owner said the cleaning lady would not be returning and it would be impossible for them to re-rent the room that night. We continued to apologize, finally the male reimbursed my credit card...but imposed a $25 penalty for urinating in a toilet that didnt flush. Oh yeah...thats right...one star is putting nicely. read more
