I wasn't quite sure what some of the offerings on their coffee menus meant but the barista was super patient and answered all of my questions! I ordered the Make Out (double shot of espresso filled to the top with milk in a 4oz cup) and my boyfriend ordered an iced mocha! I love the names of their offerings and chose the Make Out solely because everyone needs more kisses in their life. Both drinks were so good! I especially loved the Mocha because I have a sweet tooth but the Make Out is great for a morning boost. The espresso is smooth and nutty, and you can tell they source + brew their grounds with care. I tried the Creamy Beige , and it did not disappoint. $6.18 tax included for a 12 oz. It is indeed creamy--a cup of creamy goodness. I think "like a milkshake with espresso" is a very accurate description of the drink. It's the perfect level of sweetness blended with a lovely balance of espresso--not too sweet, and you can taste the coffee without it being overwhelming. Perfect for a sunny day. I regretted getting the smaller size--definitely coming back, and next time I'll get the large. read more

This spot was a winner from the start. It's conveniently located in the Abbott Square Market and has a great space carved out next to the one of the inside entrances. The barista was very pleasant to talk with and made sure I got everything I wanted with my mocha. For the price, this spot provides the most value hands down. The mocha comes with marshmallows, whipped cream, and cinnamon included but optional. I got it all, who can say no to that? It absolutely lived up to the hype. Even without all the toppings, the coffee itself tastes great. Complex without any hint of burnt roast. It was an enjoyable experience all around, from the coffee down to the artwork on the cups. Located inside of a super cute food hall, there's a very organized Covid friendly line with signage to order. I tried the 50 50 which is such a great way to try their espresso but also have a little mini sized latte as well :) Basically they split the espresso shot in half and put it into two mini cups (only paper at the moment due to covid). One shot is mixed with steamed milk and the other is the straight shot. This was perfect for me as I need a tiny bit of milk to go with the espresso, but still allows to taste the coffee bean! I noticed they also had some fun seasonal flavors that I would love to go back and check out at a later time. I always get coffee, it's reasonably priced for the fact that it's in located in downtown, in the trendy Abbott square & it's always locally sourced. I just discovered the magic of #SundayFunday a reoccuring food & live music event at the hours of 11am-5pm where people checkin in at Abbott square. During these mini festivals, the vendors participate and have food promotions. A good place to spend a couple hours. That same Sunday, I wanted a place to catch up with my friend, originally chose Cafe Delmarette but it was packed at11am & we ended up wandering back to this personal favorite. * FIRST IMPRESSIONS: My mom and I came in yesterday to try this place for the first time and the first impressions did not disappoint. We were welcomed by the guy at the register regardless of whether or not we were there for their shop or the shop across the room which was really nice. He was a guy wearing a white cap and surprised me when he spoke Spanish to my mom which made her feel really comfortable. He had great energy and so did his coworker who had short blue hair. She made our drinks and made us feel very comfortable! For whatever reason they made us feel like regulars which some shops I go to doesn't seem to do. * DRINKS/ FOOD: The vanilla latte was made half sweet for my mom and the flavor was still strong enough to taste. I got the honey latte which cut the acidity coffee/ espresso can have at times. It made it smoother to drink but wasn't anything too special. I do wish they had more variety but since they're a small location I don't blame them. The cookie we got was huge and tasted great! When did Santa Cruz start getting so trendy? I grew up here and am not used to having sleek, modern coffee shops in amazing indoor markets. I can definitely get used to it though! Cat and Cloud is located inside Abbot Square in downtown SC, which is a great place to stop and chat with a friend. However, parking can be very tricky, so it might be difficult to stay here a while. My chai was very good and the service was friendly. Only complaint is that the almond croissant was a little hard, probably because it was towards the end of the day. It's alright. I got a matcha latte and some avocado toast and it came out to almost $17 which is kind of crazy. The toast itself was alright, easily something I could've made at home and for some reason they didn't let me add an egg. Also, it seems as if the food is already premade, frozen avocado and entire frozen breakfast burritos that they warm up. The food was good overall, but not worth the price point. I'm glad I tried it but I probably won't be coming back. The cashier/staff that was there were super friendly though which is always a plus! read more

Cat&Cloud + Companion = Cool Collaboration! (Try saying that 5 times fast!) Such an awesome new space on the Westside! Nestled right next to the Museum of Art & History and behind O'Neill Surf Shop, the new Abbott Square Market houses several new mini-restaurants, 2 bars, and even a performance space. It's modern, clean, spacious, bright, airy, and a great spot to meet friends or hang with the family. There's a huge outdoor patio with lots of tables and chairs, picnic benches, and umbrellas. Even the restrooms are fancy with eco-friendly automatic faucets and hand dryers in one. (It startled me the 1st time because I placed my hands under the wrong area expecting water to come out and instead a blast of air came out from the hand dryer! haha!) Other companies sharing the space will be opening soon, but so far Cat. Cloud. Companion is the ring leader and as loyal Cat & Cloud customers, we are loving it! Lattes with almond milk and Flat Whites are our faves here. As are Companion's GF Blueberry Buckwheat Scone. Today we were blown away with the delicious Veggie Frittata! As always, C&C delivers friendly, top notch service and coffee with the added bonus of fresh baked goods from Companion Bakeshop! Win-win on the Westside! The ambiance is always a mixture of strangers and locals, which makes it interesting, and sort of a relief, because I'm an introvert. It's also a good mix of ages too, which is nice. What a cute little corner in Abbott Square when I visited Santa Cruz for the very first time! The baristas were amazing and friendly and it made the atmosphere great. From a former barista, the coffee prices were well-priced and there is quite a variety they offered. I ordered a hot chocolate with oat milk, which was surprising! I feel like not many places carry oat milk and when I do hear a place that does have oat milk, I'm amazed! I loved that my hot cocoa had latte art and was very well done! We came in on a Saturday morning with a group of 6 and the barista mentioned that it was the biggest rush they had had in a while, although there was a pretty steady line of people in front of and behind us the whole time. Their menu is small but it does offer a little bit of something for everyone. I got the paleo mocha which was pretty intensely raw cocoa flavored. I'd probably opt for just a paleo latte next time. This is an excellent coffee. I would give it 5 stars if they maintain reference hours. I tried going to this several times over the past 2 years, they just keep changing the closing times, sometimes they close at 3m, sometimes at 2., and sometimes at 1pm!! Several times we went there and walked to Verve near by who at least maintain some specific working hours. Also cat and cloud guys don't keep their website updated with closing times. This is the second santa cruz location for cat and cloud this one in downtown's own abbot square. Parking? Well, it's downtown, and this is abbot aquare which is meant as a walk in kinda spot. So there's the rare street parking and a parking garage on the same block accessed via front street. Of course there are more surface lots and garages scattered around just off pacific avenue a few blocks away, so parking won't be all that big a deal. The seating is abbot square seating so there's a lot of choices-long benches, tables, picnic style stuff, some inside counters and a ton of outside patio choices. Service is of the order at counter and pick up when called methodology, and while there will be lines at times, it tends to move fast. The barista's are relentlessly cheerful, hardworking skilled and efficient. They do the usual sandwhichy coffee house items, along with pastry from companion bakeshop, which just means the pastries and savories are more then the usual amount of yummy. All this is well and good but there's just one small flaw. I don't like the coffee. Cat and cloud is insistent on doing their own roasting which is fine but......at times it's inconsistent (at least to my palate. Your mileage may vary.) and worse it results in a sort of floral almost fruit like taste. This may or may not be what you gentle reader may notice or take exception to but for me......it's a real turn off. Makes for a really good chai I will admit but the espresso..gah. Pricing is premium as well making this a not so cost effective choice. For now a very generous four stars in spite of my dislike of the fruity coffee, if for no other reason then the likeable baristas and that perfect chai. read more
