If you have a cat that turns into "my cat from hell" at the vet, bring them here! The staff here is amazing!! My cat is very difficult at the vet to say the least. In the past I have had vets turn me away because they weren't able to handle her. When I brought her in to the Cat Vet Clinic, I warned them about her tendencies (like her hissing didn't give it away) & they were able to sedate her and give her a full exam. I have to thank the staff at The Cat Vet Clinic. I was bringing in an unhappy boy, Percy, for a checkup in our pet carrier (in the rain). Just as I got to the door of the clinic, Percy's struggling made the carrier come apart. It was all I could do to keep him in the portion of the carrier that was still intact. The girl at the desk (feel terrible that I didn't get her name) immediately came to my defense and helped me get cat and pet carrier into the clinic. Then she locked the door so no one would open it and let him get out. All I could do at the point was shake. I found the cat vet clinic from a reference from my sister who is a dog trainer at Petsmart nearby. I took my cat there for urinary issues. I have never been inside the clinic as they have been taking precautions to keep everyone safe, but I can say that the procedure they have for dropping off your cat and picking up your cat right now with COVID-19 going on is amazing. Dr. Philip has been my vet - we have gone 3 times now- and he has gone above and beyond to call me and explain things in a manner that makes sense to a non-vet! He gave me tips on how to make my cat more comfortable at home and I felt like he was/is genuinely interested in my cat's well-being. Not trying to scam you into unecessary procedures or added items. Cat Vet Saved My Cat The set up: My cat, San, was normally a robust, active, happy boy. One day, he was a howling, crouched up, ball of misery. He also seemed to be having trouble going to the bathroom. I thought he may have a UTI, so I took him to a neighborhood vet. I was new to the Humble area and it was a weekend, they could get me in and seemed like a nice place. They examined San and agreed it was a UTI. They sent me home with antibiotics. Over the next 48 hours, San did not get better. He got worse. He would not eat or move out of a crouching position then he started ballistic barfing clear mucus. He would moan and cry. I was really worried. I went back to the other place, they ran tests, did Xrays and said that it looked like he had pancreatitis and it did not look good for him. In one of the Xrays, I noticed a round lump and told them that about 4 days ago, San had eaten a doggie treat. I wondered if the doggie treat was causing a blockage. They said no. They hospitalized San. San had gone from 11 pounds to 7, he was weak, and looked like he was giving up. We were $2000 lighter in the pocket book. Hub and I talked and decided to get a second opinion so we moved him to a different vet over the weekend and had an appt with Cat Vet on Monday. Hub took San in, weak, listless, obviously in pain. The little intern (finishing up her internship from A&M) looked him over and immediately advised no more antibiotics. Then she took him in, removed the doggie treat that seemed to still be in his intestine and gave him some pain meds. The pain meds really seemed to help. He seemed less in pain. She said that cats need pain management because they are very sensitive to it and can really react badly if in too much pain. She gave San subcutaneous fluids and a script for his pain meds. She said she thought that should do it. He would just need to start eating. We were also instructed to bring him back in a few days if he didn't. I took a couple days off work and stayed with him, snuggling and making sure he felt comfortable. I tried to get him to eat and finally, on the second day, he ate. Then he ate some more. Then, we had to watch him to make sure he didn't eat too much on his empty tummy. Within 3 days of seeing cat vet, he was better. Cat Vet also helped deliver a litter of kittens when one was stuck. That one popped out after some finesse and was chaffed and rubbed and massaged till he took his first breath. His name is San. Cat Vet is not a bargain basement vet. You may spend a bit on your pet's health care, but the care they receive will be top notch. Cat Vet specializes in cats, so they know feline physiology, psychology, and behavior inside and out. They will not try to treat your cat in the same way they would treat a dog. They have all the facilities they need to do many procedures at their location, including a surgery. For your feline, there are few better places you could go. Thank you Cat Vet for everything you do. read more

If you are like me, it's hard to find a veterinary doctor in this city without a recommendation. It's times like this I am so thankful for Yelp. A warning, the beginning of this review is a little sad, but it's important, so I am including it as more of a positive and not to depress potential readers. My cat Damon was an older cat and stopped eating, and this little guy was a vacuum cleaner when it came to food. I tried some things on my own, but nothing seemed to fix the problem. I was fairly new to the Heights area and didn't have a veterinary doctor, so, I consulted Yelp and found a wonderful clinic that specialized only in cats - The Cat Vet Clinic. The first doctor I saw was Dr. Filip. It was good that I brought Damon in when I did, because he was very sick - irregular heartbeat, very thin, and other issues. He underwent surgery and it was discovered that he had cancer. Though my cat eventually passed, I can say that Dr. Filip tried absolutely everything he could to save him. I appreciated him taking time to fully explain everything that was going on, options and (as unfortunate as it is for this to be a factor) associated costs. Since then, I was lucky enough to adopt a wonderful kitten named Max. Max has had several issues with allergies, ringworm, the list goes on and on... just my luck, but he's worth it. He sees Dr. Tibbs at the CVC. She has been extremely helpful with my "problem child" and have been very pleased with her care for my cat. She is also exceptional at fully explaining the issues and treatment. She is great about calling me to provide test results personally and checks in with me on Max's status when he is prescribed some medicine. The facility is top notch and very clean and inviting. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful as well. I don't have much to complain about. Maybe it's not the cheapest place, but I feel that you get what you pay for in this case. I'd highly recommend the Cat Vet Clinic - plus, I appreciate that they have a nice coffee maker (yes, it's free). read more

I was their client for a couple of years. My cat was having awful diarrhea. She was diagnosed with mild IBD in September of last year. I started to research anything and everything about it. The next appointment we had I told the vet about it. She told me to not research and to trust her. In December of last year my cat got a urinary tract infection and wasn't eating. While I don't normally yelp about hints I feel compelled to re: CVC. I will start by saying I have had 2 lifelong pets that were patients of CVC, Sam my Manx & Charlie. We started and stayed with them at their West Alabama location where they both loved Dr. Cadillac, Nurse Puff I and staff. But I have to say when Charlie had his 1st visit with Dr. Flip that we could not go back and took our business elsewhere. That apt seemed to consist more of what other ancillary services he could sell me (dental, etc.) than forming a relationship or tending= to his current condition. Felt like I had spent time with a pushy used car salesman. Never went back. Fast forward 11+ years, a move to the Heights and CVC's relo to White Oak. I began to take Charlie there to see Dr. Tibbs who was fantastic, as is the rest of the staff and vet techs I encountered. After several years of treated diabetes, Charlie began to decline rapidly just a few weeks ago. One day he was fine, the next he wouldn't eat or drink. Wanting to make sure it wasn't something treatable, I made an appt. But Dr. Tibbs was not available. So we ended up seeing Dr. Filip (didn't recognize the name or would have made alternative arrangements). Floored to see him enter the room, his first comment to me was that that he remembered me and Charlie and that last he saw him, we covered his dental needs (really?! way to read the chart notes & that is the 1st thing to mention when Charlie is on his death bed?!). He speculated the diagnosis (wasn't inclined to run the actually test or give requested iv fluids to my obviously dehydrated pet) but had no problem suggesting i put him down right then and there and actually shamed me some when i told him that i did not intend to do so at that point (certainly not at his hand). Left with Charlie that day and later took hime to Sunset Vet Clinic (so happy I did!!! See Dr. Rebeca Uribe! Open 24 hrs/day regardless of need, price is still the same regardless of time, caring staff and prices mose reasonable -cheapest-i have encountered). Final outcome...Sunset & Dr. Uribe ran the test to confirm diagnosis, gave him fluids, assured me he was not in pain or discomforted, discussed options, lovingly allowed me to take him home & change my mind if conditions changed (common refrain from the dr.& staff, "we are always here for you"). Charlie comfortably spent the weekend in the home he has know for the last 14 years and peacefully died in my lap that Sunday. As with all of our pets, he was solemenly buried in my parents' Galveston backyard on Monday...under the avocado tree. That day, i received a personal phone call from Dr. Uribe checking on Charlie AND on ME...even said to call her if I needed to talk once she learned he had passed. From CVC on that day, I got an email customer survey (which i have now filled out). Take away: CVC is great with 1 exeception, Dr. Filip did and still needs sensiivity and bedside manner training (&i can appreciate a straight forward doctor...that is now how i would describe him), Sunset Vet &DR. REBECA URIBE ARE AWESOME!!!! read more

Our Maya kitty was a very sick girl. We'd taken her to the vet clinic in our neighborhood and they evidently misdiagnosed her. When she got home, she went downhill. I knew something was terribly wrong. I took her to the Cat Veterinary Clinic. The staff was extremely friendly, and knowledgeable. We had an appointment for 11am today but when Maya's condition deteriorated overnight, they worked her in first thing this morning. Unfortunately, Maya didn't make it. However, Dr. Nancy Christensen was very kind, sympathetic, understanding, and helped us come to the best decision on what the kindest thing to do for Maya would be. She made this entire process much easier for us and gave us time to say goodbye to our little girl. I wish I'd met Dr. Christensen under better circumstances. I will definitely be back. I have other cats at home and they'll be coming here for their future visits. read more

He even took the time to discuss ways to prevent future problems. I was impressed with him and would recommend him, especially if your cat has asthma. Dr. Wilkens at the Cat Vet Clinic saved us from putting our cat through abdominal surgery and we will be forever grateful! We came to her with a diagnosis that just didn't make sense, and she calmly walked us through all of the possible things that could be wrong, did an extremely thorough exam and set of tests, and ultimately determined that our cat did NOT need the $6,000 surgery. Unfortunately, we uncovered an underlying disease in the process. But since we uncovered it at such a young age, our cat will be able to live a lot happier and possibly a little longer in the time he has left. Our beautiful Kitten, Limoncello, was taken in to be neutered and died a few hours later. We are still incredibly heartbroken. My husband and I took our kitten in to be neutered in the morning, he was fine, strong and 6 months old. He had been checked out by the vet, blood tests done as well. 4 hours later I got a hysterical call from the vet, in tears, telling me his stable but his heart stopped during the procedure. She revived him, and was hopeful that he would be okey. Tests came back that his heart was fine. We still do not really know what happened. We ended up rushing him to a hospital where the specialist told us within minutes he was brain dead. It felt like a complete nightmare, it still does. The vet dealt with the situation unprofessionally, every other vet we talk to is horrified by the unexplained death of Limoncello. read more

I have three geriatric cats who are the loves of my life, and there is no one I trust to take care of them other than Dr. Filip. He doesn't baby talk to them or to me. His attitude is no-nonsense and straightforward, and he lays out his findings, and proposed approaches to them in a clear and easily understood manner. That being said, he recommends- doesn't command- and provides the reasons behind his recommendations. He obviously follows all new findings in the field and will take time to talk about different studies if you ask questions. When I moved away from Houston for a while, it was traumatizing to have to use vets who were simply not as good, and I'm delighted to be back in town and able to have my cats under his care again- I know that at the Cat Vet Clinic they're receiving the best care I can give them. read more

Wish I'd switched vets sooner! The people here are so knowledgeable and caring. Nancy spent a lot of time with me when I dropped my cat off, as well as two follow up calls later the same day to explain everything going on with my 13 year old cat. WONDERFUL place to bring your pet for both check-ups and boarding!! The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean the office was. Fresh and cutely decorated, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. From the moment I walked in, the office assistants were cooing over my kitty and helpful with any questions I had as a first time visitor. The doctors are equally as wonderful. Completing a full exam on a last minute request, the doctor called me twice after he completed it at different times during the day to make sure he spoke to me before he left rather than just leaving notes in the file for me to decipher/wonder about over the weekend as I had dropped my kitty off on a Friday. Not only did he make sure he got me on the phone (and keep in mind there was nothing urgent about the results of the check-up- the doctor simply wanted to discuss them with me), but he talked to me for a half hour devoting his complete attention to all of my questions and the best care for my cat! He spoke to me about dietary needs, explaining ideal caloric intake, the best methods for engaging in a diet plan, gave me food recommendations keeping in mind both cost and time effectiveness. He spoke to me about different preventative measures with regard to heart worm disease. He did not dismiss any of my concerns as over the top; nor did he try and push expensive treatment/services on me. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. Everyone in the office was so friendly and helpful and not the least bit annoyed that I was not able to come pick my cat up until about 6:25 p.m. on a Friday night when they close at 6:30 p.m. They showed me where she stayed in the boarding rooms all day, they talked to me about how she interacted with the other cats and people. They made me feel welcomed, and confident to leave my precious feline companion with them all day!! When I picked my cat up she was not meowing or frantic or scared, she seemed content which was nice. I also found out that all the girls in the office pet sit and will actually come to your house and check in on your animals and even clean the cat's litter box while you are gone! As a graduate student I still go home for Christmas break (approximately 1 month to New England) and always fret about leaving my cat alone for such a long time and stress trying to find friends who can split the duty of coming to my house to check in on her. It was really great to hear that the office staff has this option. Great hours too - they are open early enough to drop your pet off before work without having to go in late to the office and open late enough to have plenty of time to pick your kitty even after battling rush-hour traffic!! Overall, the great service, reasonable price, expertise, convenient location and friendliness have made me a customer of the Cat Vet Clinic for life! read more

My fiance and I moved to Houston about 2 years ago and my cat, Scoli was plagued with various urinary tract issues. Initially, we took him to Banfield because I was new to Houston and wasn't sure where to go and didn't think it was anything too serious. First mistake -- they misdiagnosed him twice and cost me over $350 with no solution and a continually sick cat. I had also taken Scoli to another vet in the Heights but felt it was overpriced and that it lacked proper bedside manner and customer service. Luckily, I found the Cat Vet Clinic on White Oak and was blessed to get an appointment with Dr. Filip. Within two visits, fluids, some recommendations for at home care and a couple days to get used to new medicine, Scoli was back in good health. Moreover, I so appreciate him always taking the time out of his day to call me and discuss Scoli's health in detail. He gives honest advice and helps you navigate the best options available to your cat. I am blown away by his bedside manner, attention to detail, and his care for the pet owners. I fully believe that I have found the best Dr. in Texas and absolutely trust everyone on staff. In addition to health care, I also occasionally board Scoli with the Cat Vet Clinic. The women at the front desk are immensely helpful and pleasant to speak with. They always make sure to get back to me promptly and also keep me posted throughout the weekend if needed. Lastly, I called Dr. Filip for a friend to get advice about her shih tzu's seizures and he quickly returned my call and also emailed me to call him back to discuss. He sat on the phone with my friend and I discussing her dog for almost 30 minutes just out of the kindness of his heart (free of charge!). He gave his advice, explained to her how to obtain her dog's records and told her to get a second opinion immediately. He recommended a fellow A&M grad, Dr. Darcy Reed at the Central Houston Animal Hospital. The fact that he took the time to help her figure out the next steps even though it would not mean obtaining a new patient (since it was a dog) - BLEW MY MIND! I am beyond grateful to have found a vet who values his patients (animals & human) and will never go anywhere else with Scoli again! I will say that I don't mind the price as much (it seems pretty average to me) because of the quality of care. Do yourself and your cat a favor and make an appointment today! read more

I can't say enough positive things about our first time at The Cat Vet Clinic. Every employee was extremely polite and welcoming. My cat has asthma, and I went in with some concerns. The office is a nice, calm environment that is enhanced by their wonderful staff. We were lucky enough to be seeing Dr. Tibbs, who was patient and kind throughout the entire process. In the past I've been given information on my cat's health that felt unclear to me, but Dr. Tibbs was so good at communicating the what and why thorough the entire exam process. Many times I have felt talked *at* instead of *to* by health care providers, then asked if I have any questions. It's hard to know what questions to ask when you're not sure where to start.... She answered so many before I had to ask them, which is how it should be. When I did ask questions, Dr. Tibbs was very present and willing to discuss each topic with me in great detail (food, claws, everything in between.) The clinic is very lucky to have her. I was given options, and felt educated enough to be confident in my decision making as I provide the care my cat needs and deserves- with guidance from a feline specialist that I can trust. I have nothing but the best to say about this place. They have treated one of my cats for over a year and renewed her back to health and helped me make an informed decision on what to do for my fatally ill kitty. All of which they have performed with knowledge, professionalism, and caring as the cornerstones. Everyone from the receptionist( who I love) to the vet techs( who are awesome) to the Vets who are particularly amazing especially Dr. Christensen. This is the place to take your cat whether ill or for a well check. They do labs onsite, can set up med and food delivery, and everything is very efficient and timely. I was very disappointed in the grooming service of my cat, Josie. While shaving her belly they cut three of her nipples. I can't even imagine how painful that must have been for poor Josie. They continued to bleed after I took her home and then they scabbed over. I am so disappointed by people who's job it is to care for animals, yet they treat animals as if they feel no pain. The reason I did not groom her myself was because I was so sensitive about grooming around her nipples. I have found this over and over at different veterinarian clinics - they handle the animals as if they don't feel anything. Vets and people in general need to understand that animals have the same nerve endings and pain responses as humans, even if their vocalization about pain might be different. If it would hurt a human, it will hurt an animal! read more
