This place is a hidden gem. I have been looking for a good calzone place for many years. The place I used to go to in Carlsbad had amazing calzones and I always wanted to find one closer to home. THIS is the place. Everyone I have brought here has enjoyed the food. They have HUGE pizzas too. The staff and management are super nice. Big shout out to Mike as my calzone creator of choice. Being in the 99¢ store strip makes is a little out of the way, but I hope they keep enough business to keep me in calzones forever. I only discovered them by Yelping local pizza places and they popped up in my searches. To be honest, I have yet to try their other specialty pizzas, because I keep ordering the same one: the white pizza. If you're not familiar with the toppings of a white pizza, the key toppings are chicken, bacon, white garlic pizza sauce instead of your traditional red, tomato based sauce. Chicken is never my go-to protein for a pizza; I am a traditionalist, preferring the pepperoni or sausage stand-bys. However, I forget all that when I bite into the white pizza. It's fantastic! Lady is extremely rude, she has no consideration for customers. I came to pick up a postmate order that she said it was cancelled when it was showing on my app, i tried telling her that if they cancelled it would come out on my end as well. She said she has no time to deal with postmates. Customer calls her and she's arguing on the phone with him saying she has no control over postmates. We're also in a pandemic and the Employees don't have face covering rather they have a bandana necklace or a mask earring, i men's they're working with food. This place seems like it has potential but definitely is not worth it when you're going to get arguing and attitude. And her saying she has no time to help out her paying customers. Long Beach is a huge city and Catalano's pizza is the best. It's won awards for the best pizza in Long Beach multiple time and we need to keep them open during and after this lock down. They are currently doing their own delivery so you don't have to deal with all of the delivery service BS. Great people, great pizza. Horrible experience. Bad pizza and the worst customer service EVER. We ordered online, they made the pizza that their online system sent them which was not what we ordered. They didn't call to confirm or double check the order even though he noted that the order looked unusual. When we tried to point out the error, which in fairness to them wasn't what they had on the order that went through the system, the guy blamed us for the issues with their ordering site, didn't offer to fix the order, nothing *remotely* helpful - he just kept on blaming us and refusing to assist and getting very rude. Ultimately we paid over $40 for a really blah extra cheese pizza and really insulting, disappointing experience. We ended up trying to eat the pizza they made, but the crust is lackluster and generally not worth the calories. In this city, good pizza is everywhere and usually served with great service - but not here. I have always been in love with their dough. If you are a baker of all forms of bread, you will appreciate their "old" dough. New dough hasn't had the time to become flavorful. I do not know if Catalano's has changed, but years ago ( that's how long it's been) I spoke with the owner and he said they make dough daily. It has now become our new pizzeria. We bought a pizza coupon books to Cantalano's Pizza for an awesome price of $19.99. It's already paid for itself. It has BOGO offers on pizza, pasta, sandwiches, appetizers, and salads. Our family friend sells them and has been posting pics of his food. It looked really great. So last night I hit him up for two books since we were starving and our stove was broken. One for me, one for my brother. As for the food, it does take between 20-25 minutes to bake so be patient. It's worth the wait. Plenty of gooey cheese, the crust is crispy without being hard, and soft and chewy in the right places. We ordered 2 - 18" pizzas for pick up which turned out to be more than plenty for the five of us. One pastrami pizza, and one sampler pizza. The sampler had three slices of the following: Cheese, Hawaiian, Sausage, and Pepperoni. It's a small joint but still enough booths to sit and enjoy your pizza and tasty beverage there. The guy at the counter gave me a few plates and napkins because I told him it wouldn't last the trip home. The pastrami did not disappoint. Good portions of meat and pickles. My first experience here was perfect. I moved to the area a few months ago, and haven't tried any pizza restaurants yet. I was having a few people over for Superbowl, and wanted to include a pizza. I researched on Yelp before choosing Catalano's. The pics on their customer's reviews sold me. I pre-ordered a couple days before and hoped for the best. My pickup was scheduled for 2pm on Superbowl Sunday. I arrived precisely at 2pm to an open kitchen area with several employees seriously killing it in that small space. They are a well oiled machine. Precision teamwork in action. Every single employee was contributing, aware of every customer at all times and what their order was and what the status of that order was. It was impressive. And... My order of a large white pizza and two antipasto salad was ready exactly on time. Now I was crossing my fingers it tasted good. Queue the arrival of my hungry friends. We dive in to all the various foods including the salad and pizza. It would be difficult to screw up an antipasto salad, so I won't dwell. The pizza is why people come here, and the positive reviews I read are accurate. The pizza was delicious! Flavorful, with a great ratio of ingredients, and cooked well. The crust was great. Ok so 2nd time picking up food after my great experience the 1st time and I went with a classic pepperoni pizza and let me just say I know why they have received awards for their pizza. It was honestly just perfect, the taste of the dough, the softness of the crust and just the taste overall- everything cheese pepperoni taste and the right amount of everything; was honestly one of the best pizza I've had and I truly am picky and have a hard time finding pizza that leaves me quite impressed. I use to love this place but my last order caused me to change my mind. Our pizza was dry and lacking flavor. We ordered a 18 sausage pepperoni and mushroom and the Mushrooms were few and far between plus we ordered some of their wings NO BUENO And a personal Hawaiian which was the best tasting for the night and I don't like the Hawaiian in the past this place was on point but something has changed as I was sick the next day and so was my wife maybe a bad batch of something. We live in the adjacent neighborhood and found this hidden gem a few years ago. It is obvious Catalano's uses fresh ingredients and you can taste the quality of the pizza witch surpasses the rest. I get terrible heartburn from the nearby competitors, but have never had any negative side effects when I eat Catalano's pizza. Another indication they are using fresh ingredients. Great customer service, friendly and personable and they are always on time if not early with our piping hot dinner. We normally order with the delivery option, but the few times we sat down to dine the place was clean and in good order. DO NOT USE ONLINE ORDERING (with Catalano's)! I ordered a pizza and wings online through Yelp's Eat 24 from work, arrived at Catalano's about 20 minutes later, and the lady says, "This is new to us..." Apparently, nobody checked the ipad sitting next to the cash register to see if any orders came in. I've used Yelp's Eat 24 a number of times with other restaurants, and have never had this problem. To make matters worse, I ask her, "Can you just deliver to my house then?" Her answer, "It'll take almost 2 hours because we have a bunch of orders waiting." So, I say, "Then can you refund my credit card" Her response, "I don't know how this works, can you call them?" I say, "Is that my job or your job?" Her response, "I don't know who to contact." So, I sit in their waiting area, contact Eat 24 and get a refund, which will take 3-5 business days. Not particulary cool, but what can I do. They have my money already. A few notes about good customer service. Here are the correct responses: 1. "I'm sorry, that was our mistake. We will put your order in the front of the line and deliver it to your house as soon as it's ready." 2. "Since your credit card was already charged (and we will be receiving that money), and I don't know how to refund it, let me refund you in cash." 3. Even better. "Let me give you a refund, and here's a coupon for some free wings with your next order." If you are in the 21st century, do not use online ordering with Catalano's. Call them. On their land line. Old school. If you want to use online ordering, Bella's Pizza is a bit more expensive, but they have never screwed up an order. read more

I ordered the Mamma Mia Lasagna w/ a side of meatballs. Delivery took 45 minutes. The food was delivered piping hot, and the delivery guy was very nice-- excellent customer service. I was not a huge fan of the lasagna. The sauce was too tangy, and the lasagna itself had a weird taste to it. The garlic bread was hard and chewy. The meatballs on the other hand, were amazing; they were moist and flavorful. Catalano's was nice to try, but I don't see myself ordering from here again. It was for delivery, so I was not about to waste 15 minutes of someone's time to come out to fix my order, but one of the dishes had very little sauce on it--by the easy comparison to the other dish I received. I called in to let the restaurant know, and they (only) apologized and stated that they put one ladle of sauce on each dish, which is their form of measurement. All I know is that I received a dish with barely any sauce on it to the extent that I am contemplating diving to the store to buy a jar a sauce just to put the amount on that there should be. When a person starts thinking along those lines, then I find it's clear that a restaurant did not meet the expectations--especially for a $14 dinner. Because of this, I am hesitant to order from them in the future and will give everyone I know a fair warning regarding expected vs. actual return for the price of the food. read more

If you're looking for a local pizza spot in the Bixby Knolls area, I would recommend this place. It's located in the plaza on Orange and Carson where the 99 cents store is at. Small joint but nicely remodeled inside with marble table tops, new red booth seats, and two flat screens to enjoy your meal while dining in. This place has pizzas from 8-24 inch also serving: calzones, lasagnas, salads, and spaghetti. They're very generous with their portion size and toppings unlike some pizza joints like Pizza Hut or Dominos they're pretty stingy with their toppings and cheese. Since I've been coming here, every bite has been oozing with cheese to where you have to use your fingers to stop the cheese from stringing (cheese lover--happy camper)! I usually get the Vegetarian on thin crust with an Anti-Pasto Salad, never disappointed. Anti-Pasto has salami, ham, turkey, cheese, black olives, onions, green bell peppers and of course your salad. Comes out beautifully made and packed with meat! They also have these specialty pizza that they haven't added onto their printed menu and I am not sure if they plan to but it's located on the window when you walk inside. They have the Pastrami Pizza-- pastrami, pickles--tastes just like a pastrami sandwich. White Chicken- White sauce with chicken on top-- love the white sauce. Forgot what else is on that menu... AWESOME pizza. I finally got a new spot. Being new to the area, it was a long Yelp study, but this place actually found by a random drive by. Not disappointed but I do have a few recommendations. Order the pie with half cheese. They put a TON of cheese, so if you're not used to heavy cheese, it will give ur belly some challenges. Don't eat there. Dining room is dirty and not "pizza parlorish", missing the arcade games, tv's, music, etc. So you either take the free delivery or pick it up. They do what appears to be kid dinner from heaven.
