    ITALIAN SANDWICH
    Patty A.

First time customer, not sure if I'll be back. Ordered an Italian sandwich, it was lackluster, not much flavor. My son did love the pepperoni/onion calzone. The staff (Juan & Brandon) were so nice, Brandon even feeds the pigeons that hang out by the door! BTW, the bathroom is Very small, efficient & got the cutest sign above the commode!

Tonight for dinner we decided to skip cooking and go out instead. I've had this pizza place saved on my YELP for a minute now that I had saved from a reel or TikTok video I saw. At first glance we arrived just after 5pm and the place was empty. Good for us since we could sit anywhere we wanted to. Nice decor on the walls. It kinda had the same vibe as Buonos pizza in long beach. An old school authentic new York Italian kinda feel to it. Overall the place was very clean. After looking over the menu we decided to go with a special 18" pizza, chicken wings plain, lasagna, meatball appetizer, and some extra marinara sauce for dipping any crust if needed. Brandon was a one man army tonight and did an amazing job. He practically single handedly had all of our orders ready, hot and on the table in less than an hour. Great job bud. The meatballs i was expecting to be bigger. They were still delicious. The sauce...OMG THE SAUCE! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. It was thick and so homemade kinda flavor. The lasagna was next and it too did not disappoint. Right from the first bite you taste the ricotta cheese. Very hot and filled with flavor. I ordered plain chicken wings because I can't do spicy anymore. They were good. I just wish they had larger orders because I love me some chicken wings . Now the pizza...it was perfect. I could only have two slices it had so much toppings on it. It was just right for this evening's dinner. Still had plenty leftovers for lunch tomorrow . Final call and Overall review...definitely coming back here for some great food. Besides...we still have to try the subs . Highly recommend to anyone looking for good pizza and Italian dishes. Great job Brandon and Juan.

They block most of the seats so best to do a take out

Mom and pop pizza shop. Friendly owner took our order and was just great we have a small business that is providing good food to the community! They said they were affected by the pandemic but also now it's hard to find waiters in this inflated economy. So most of the seats are blocked with pizza boxes but they are open so don't worry. The catalano's pizza had lots of toppings and the pizza was great. My toddler also liked it (she just picked out the pepperoni). I saw the 24" pizza challenge but I saw the pizza box and can't believe someone actually ate it all!! Actually don't know if they do it any more because most of the seats are closed but you can ask...

I got the 15" Catalano special pizza. If you love cheese, you'll love this pizza. The ingredients tasted fresh. It had pepperoni, sausage, ham, mushrooms, olives, onions and bell peppers. The owner was very nice and welcoming. I drove about 30 minutes back to San Gabriel Valley and by the time I got home, the pizza was still hot. Before this, I had Thai food at LB Thai food. The pizza was so good that I ate 2 slices and tempted to eat a 3rd slice. The location is in a small plaza next to a Dollar Tree. This is a local mom and pop's hole in the wall pizza joint. Love the interior decorations. The owner is so sweet! I was a little shy, it was freezing in north LB around 8pm on a Saturday night lol.

So I've been sitting here this morning trying to think of words to describe Catalano's Pizza let me start by saying my friends and I are here from Columbus Ohio that's right Go Bucks and we leave today for our cruise to Cabo so last night we decided early on we would do pizza for dinner so my task is always to research and find the best place to eat at first glance on yelp I knew Catalano's would be my pick but to be fair I still look at a few others and of course read reviews to see what the city had to say about each place after about 2 hours sitting by the pool reading and looking at pics I stayed with my first choice and MAN LET ME TELL YOU hands down absolutely amazing DA BOMB.COM and yes I am certified to say that cause I was born and raised in Chicago and everyone knows we have the best pizza lol when I called I let the gentleman on the phone know we were not from around here so make sure send us the best and when I say they brought their A Game each pies was piping hot the cheese pull on these pizza's had us going crazy each bite the flavors of this deliciousness was like a party on the inside of our mouths then to take it up another notch they sent us this amazing chocolate chip cookie pie on the house with the sweetest special note on it just had us going crazy each bite so if you're in the Long Beach area please please please give this place a try you will not be disappointed thank you to my friends at Catalano's for such an amazing dinner and dessert last night my friends and I were extremely happy by the way we finished it off for breakfast this morning we will back be and you already know where I'm coming!!!

Best meatball sub ... hands down
    larry b.

Went back a week later to try their famous meatball sandwich and I was not disappointed! To be honest, it's a science making a meatball sub and they got it down pat. Their bread is the key and it doesn't get soggy. The meatballs and sauce and the crazy amount of cheese is so delicious!

I was coming down carson street and wanted to give this place a try! I ordered the honeycup pizza with mikes hot honey! Pretty good pizza. Pretty pricey for a 12 inch for $26 bucks total but i understand inventory of items goes up as well. THe cheese was good and crust was ok, lacking a bit of flavor still. They share a huge parking lot with the 99-cent store and a donut shop and bixby burgers. No issues parking getting in and out. Very nice people who run this place though and they have a health code A in the window which i like. If you never tried it give it a shot and see what you think.

Stopped by to get a slice of pizza, ended up getting a mini pizza and having a really good conversation with the lady in charge. The lady was very pleasant and friendly, she talked to me about business and the ingredients in their pizzas. I watched her make a pizza. They use a great grade of mozzarella and a good kind of olives. They put the a layer of cheese, they pepperonis, then another layer of cheese. They pizza looks extra cheesy BUT it actually didn't taste to cheesy at all, great flavor. Olives where delicious too. The actual establishment has a lot going on, the setting area is more of a storage area, so pizza to go is definitely a better option. But everything was clean and organized. I enjoyed getting to know a bit about the business and how they made their pizzas, I also really enjoyed the pizza; definitely recommend. #SupportYourNeighborhoodPizzeria

    Budget pizzas

I like this place! The staff is amazing. It's a nice family owned small business. The owners personally help you. The menu is extensive with many choice, including budget pizza menu. The pizzas are made fresh to order. You can see them make it and take it out of the oven. The have heart shaped pizzas for Valentine's Day, and Jack-o-lantern shaped pizzas for Halloween. Parking is ample and free.

    Thin crust available upon request

Do you offer a whole wheat crust?

It's located in Bixby Knolls, surrounded by coffee shops, restaurants, bars and breweries, yet it's the only true wine bar right there. Honestly, Long Beach has more wine bars than most surrounding areas, and since the South Bay is packed with breweries, if you're tired of beer this is your sign to switch it up. You will not regret it. The food menu has cheese boards, salads and sandwiches, and everything I've had here has been delicious. The cheese boards are better than sex. There is seating indoors and outdoors. It's minimal, but somehow we always manage to find a table. The service is consistently great and the owner is wonderful. She will be leaving soon and she will absolutely be missed, but what she has built here will definitely be cherished. The new owners fell in love with the place, so you can expect it to be well taken care of and to remain just as charming. Parking is street only, so read the signs carefully so you don't end up with a ticket. If you go on a Sunday there are no restrictions or time limits, which makes it even better.

First it's 7:30pm, planned on ordering a matcha and the person at the register informed me that there was "No coffee or tea after 4pm" so I choose to order a non alcoholic beverage and maybe something to eat and cashier or owner, whoever this person was tells me if I plan to work because it becomes a "laptop free zone" after 4pm. Odd behavior to tell someone what they can and can't do at an establishment considering it's called a coffee AND wine bar. Maybe this is something to advertise on your yelp and website but a "laptop free zone" after 4pm is pretty ridiculous for potential customers who were just looking to eat and work. I almost feel like he just told me that because I was going to order a salad and a non alcoholic beverage and wasn't planning on ordering much. As the other 1 star reviews mention "pretentious behavior" so it's either the cashier or whoever it was is being pretentious as others mentioned or RACIST... Kinda odd to dictate what I do on my own accord while I'm a patron at your establishment. If I ordered food and a drink but chose to open my laptop, are you going to ask me to leave? Doesn't really seem customer centric. Considering that I've worked on my laptop at dine-in restaurants, it's pretty odd behavior to display. Also, considering that this is not a club, and there's no live music, and there were only 3 people sitting in there, I think I would have been fine to sit there quietly in a corner with my laptop. 1 star for the experience and weird behavior. Like I said it's either pretentiousness or racism but weird behavior nonetheless.

Nonna has become our go to bakery, our sweet retreat, and one of our favorite local brunch spots. Now, they even have happy hour and, during the summer, dinner (Nonna Summer Nights)! And all of the food is amazing. Seriously, truly legit! We buy bread from there each week. No more "big box store" bread you freeze. They make their bread fresh daily. They only use fresh, locally sourced ingredients with no preservatives. It's nice to look at an ingredient list and not see a paragraph for bread (and be able to pronounce all the names!). And their cupcakes and sweets. Yo, seriously so good. And the thing is, because of the ingredients they use, we don't feel heavy or overly wired after eating cake or cupcakes from them. From other places you can tell they use preservatives, refined sugars, processed ingredients. But with Nonna, you can just taste the difference. We even had them make our special cake for our wedding! We recently tried their dinner (twice!) and it exceeded expectations. Now, mind you, all of their food has always been good but our experience was amazing. Their prix fixe menu was well put together, wine pairings on point, dessert was also delicious. Our favorite was the tiramisu! Also loved the spaghattini and casarecce pastas, and entrecôte di manzo, but everything was great. Their brunch is also great, you really can't go wrong on the menu. And I think we've gone through almost all of it! Finally, (if you've stayed with me this long!) the absolute best thing about Nonna for us is the TEAM. Hands down no question. Instead of a few (or more, because it WAS $16!) slices of delicious bacon, it was a thick sandwich filled with what appeared to be bacon pieces, like the preparer had just scraped together old bacon from earlier in the day. It tasted greasy and burnt. After several sips of water my tongue was still greasy! The avocado was almost nonexistent. I immediately went back in and asked for a refund. I brought my husband his roast beef ($18!). He is not a picky eater, AT ALL! He said it wasn't very good and he should bring them an Arby's to show what a roast beef sandwich should look like. It was a nice addition to the mini food court in Long Beach, but unfortunately, times got tough for them to the point where they had to pull the plug on their operations. I Luv Ur Buns was one of seven vendors at Steelcraft Long Beach on the southeast corner of Long Beach and Bixby. They had taken over the spot that used to be Waffle Love, and it was such a quick turnaround that on my first visit to Steelcraft Long Beach since the Waffle Love closure, I almost thought they seamlessly rebranded from waffles to bao buns lol. Signage was posted around the shipping container assigned to I Luv Ur Buns and even a signicade closer to Steelhead Coffee; the signs informed customers that they were closing and that the Sunday preceding Martin Luther King Jr Day would be their last day of business, which also happened to be the same day the LA Rams were playing in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs, so I almost thought Steelcraft would be jam-packed. Actually, no it wasn't even that busy, and there were several parking spots available just around Steelcraft. I definitely wanted to try a bao bun, but not a full dinner, so that left me with the two Global Flavors sections of the menu. One section was titled "Global Flavors on Bao Buns" where you basically get two bao buns. Don't think these bao buns are large by any means; I tried a couple at Sosogu sometime last year, and they're not that big either. They would have been the perfect size for a snack, but I was also curious about the other Global Flavors section, titled "Global Flavors with Rice or Fries". That section only has two line items: Mini Bowls and Loaded Fries. I didn't want fries, but when I asked about a Mini Bowl, I was informed that it was a deconstructed version of a bao bun with a small mound of rice. Wanting a little more variety, I went with the Bao Mi Mini Bowl. The menu did get a little confusing for me because I had noticed the (V), which usually stands for either vegan or vegetarian. However, they had several non-vegetarian items with (V), and that had me confused at first; like how is a bao bun with grilled pork belly vegetarian?? That's when the cashier, sporting a black nose ring, let me know that it can be ordered with a plant-based option, namely tofu. However, the cashier also mentioned the use of a shared fryer between their plant-based options and their regular options, so if you were strictly vegan, I'd think twice first. I asked how long the wait would be, and they estimated 10 minutes, which was pretty much spot on. I was given a pager that buzzed when my order was ready, and since there was plenty of space for me to eat, I was given a red tray with an "I Luv Ur Buns" sticker in the middle. The mini bowl was presented on a small tray, like one you'd use when you're giving out samples at a special event. I was also given a fork, which was another reason why I ordered a Mini Bowl over two bao buns as I wanted to keep my hands clean. Besides the grilled pork belly, the Bao Mi also comes with hoisin sauce, cucumber, jalapeno, onion, and cilantro. All of what I just mentioned tasted pretty good, though not necessarily as good as what I had at Sosogu last year. Then again, the Bao Mi is Vietnamese-style whereas Sosogu is Japanese, but between the two, which are the two cheapest options at $10, the Bao Mi was the most popular alongside their Korean-style, called Seoul on Fire. I'm pretty sure I would have liked Seoul on Fire better as it comes with Bulgogi beef, but the grilled pork belly was pretty good too. Just not as fatty as I would have liked. However, I didn't like their use of a wrapping paper between the tray and the food. That's because several grains of rice got stuck on the wrapping paper, and it was hard to pluck them off with my fork. As a result, it got kind of messy eating the mini bowl, and I almost thought I'd drop a piece of pork belly in the process! Luckily, I didn't, but I don't think that would be a problem with the bao buns since the bao bun from my mini bowl didn't stick to the wrapping paper at all. One thing I observed that I thought was kind of cool was witnessing the cashier hand deliver a tray of bao buns to an employee from Elio's Wood Fire Pizza, directly across from I Luv Ur Buns. I wouldn't say I love I Luv Ur Buns, but it made for a nice quick snack albeit a little pricey for a small bowl. I'm glad I gave them a try before they closed for good, and I made sure to bid them a proper adieu by returning the tray to them. They also had a small tray of I Luv Ur Buns stickers by their order window, so I made sure to pick up a couple as souvenirs. Thank you I Luv Ur Buns for serving the LBC for the past couple years, and sorry to see you go! Best wishes to Sonya, Mandy, and the rest of the team on their future endeavors.
