The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered last minute just befofe closing, and all of the food was fresh. They even loaded us up with extras, which we were happy to have. The employees were friendly and noone seemed to mind that they were having to work a few minutes later than their shift. This place is very small with a small dimig room area, so probably not ideal for large parties to dine in, but take out or catering would be a great idea for events or large parties. I live in Atlanta(no need to say how our food scene is) and I go to Athens from time to time, and when I do I make it a point to take back roads and to stop here on my way...Every. Single. Time. This is what you want in a bbq joint. Don't let the small town/one stop light fool you. This bbq is legit. The service is always polite, fast, and served with a smile. It's cheap and it's good! The ambiance is exactly what you get. Maybe six tables inside, but I always sit on the screened in porch. It's a straight up Georgia BBQ shack and it's one of may favorites. Definitely try it on your next road-trip to Athens. read more

I used to go to this place regularly when I was in the mood for some BBQ, was decent enough but that was then. Now the portions are small and the stew is watery. The woman that was at the register was very rude while I was looking at the menu board like I was wasting her time. After I placed my $50 order to go she told me the first screen to come up would be for the tip to leave for her, I did leave a 15% tip for the cook to put a little bit of pulled pork and to place a half rack of ribs. while I was watching this I noticed I didn't get not even one slice of white bread I asked if I could get a couple and in the rudest way I've ever been spoken to by a front facing employe she said yeah you can have one but it will cost you. I thought she was kidding but she wasn't, told me one slice of white bread, not a sandwich bun would cost me $1.25 each. Had I known I'd be so rudely talked to I would have saved the $7.50 tip for doing nothing and bought 4 slices of regular white bread and not even the Texas toast that most bbq restaurants include with your meal. read more

I've driven by this place a hundred times without much thought. I hadn't seen it on anyone's top ten list and frankly just stopped to add another notch to my BBQ list. My first impression was they needed to change the fry oil. It reeked. My second was how popular they are with the locals. The Staff seemed to know everyone on a first name basis sometimes carrying on lengthy conversations. Lastly, phone orders are a must. While my take-out order took forever, a parade of customers came and went. As for the BBQ itself ... decent enough to recommend, but nothing to write home about. read more

Food prepared with love, I ordered a hot dog, french fries and a sweet tea. The french fries were served so hot you had to dip them in ketchup just to eat them. Awesome! Hot dog was really good, my only complaint was a cold bun. But no worries, if it had been wrapped in wax paper that would have done the trick. I am a disabled vet but my wife is the one with PTSD. Years of my deployments have taken a toll on her, along with the former job she had working for a school district. They were rude, had no compassion for my wife or the need for her service animal which is a small 8 lb dog and was in a carry bag. She is a Bichon Frise and they do not shed a bit. They are actually one of 23 listed hypoallergenic dogs that do not shed. I tried to explain this to the restaurant but unfortunately, they do not posses the intelligence that allows them to reason or understand this nor do they understand they broke a federal law. My wife has a medical condition the dog is trained to alert her to the needs of medications. This place broke the law and they still asked her to leave. read more

I'm disappointed in the service, portions, and overall quality of what I purchased. The dining room was closed, which would be fine. However, all of the chairs were up on tables. It wasn't welcoming even if I did want a to-go order. Two of three employees were cleaning and didn't welcome me in the restaurant. Another was on the phone. I ordered a half pound of beef (8 oz.). It was full of water that had to be drained before eating. It was tough and well done - very end of the day taste. The baked beans container was as full as the picture, and the stew was thin and a poor comparison to what I had left over from Stripling's. I stopped because the restaurant is convenient and on my way home. I won't do that again. read more

I gave them a second chance in hopes that the other food would be good. It was not. The pork is seasoned with a really sour and sweet sauce that was unbearable. There were char black pieces in the pork that look like they were scrapped off of the grill. The roll was completely soggy wet. The lady at the register was not friendly at all. I've driven by here 100 times on the way to The ATL and finally stopped in. Had the pork plate which came with fries, slaw, stew, and toasted unbuttered bread. The portions were huge for the price, so I'd say good value is the draw here. Tasted no smoke in the meat, which was unfortunately chopped instead of pulled. It was tender and not at all dry, and they offer a nice vinegar-based sauce which is my preference. The slaw was forgettable but edible, and the stew was a bit chunkier than I like but it was tasty. The dining area is very small and the fryers are right at the counter, so it was pretty hot in there. Also a surly woman found it necessary to spank her what looked to be 11-year-old child right there in front of everyone. When said child naturally began to cry, Dad came over to scold her too. Certainly not the restaurant's fault how their customers behave, but it did dampen the experience and created an awkward vibe. They have a lot of items on the menu besides Q so I may give them another try someday. The staff was friendly and food was served quickly. read more

Passed this place dozens of times, never was around during a meal time. The pork came presauced, which is never a good sign. Their sauce is vinegar based, which is fine by me. They did have a hot sauce on the table (a mildly hotter vinegar sauce) and a "sweet" sauce, which really shouldn't bear that name, as it wasn't remarkably sweeter than their regular sauce. Pork needed the sauce; it was very dry, even with the sauce. I didn't ask, but I'm guessing they use hams. The meat was too lean for my tastes. Brunswick stew was meaty and had corn ground up on the buffalo chopper along with the meat. It was meaty, but bland. Needed a sweet note and was under seasoned, it wasn't inedible, but it certainly wasn't the great stew you hope to find Little details were off too; warm sweet tea with little ice and a big deficit in the sugar, Hunts Ketchup instead of Heinz...just some of those little things that make a place not work like it ought to It wasn't bad and I would eat here again, but I wouldn't go out of my way and certainly wouldn't plan my lunch around eating here read more

Great pulled pork sandwich. The sauce is very good: slightly vinegary, but not overpowering with a hint of sweetness. Pulled pork was done to good tenderness. Beans are not terribly fancy, but did the trick. Great service! read more
