Thoroughly enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance at the best Thai/Japanese restaurant found in the area! Excellent Thai tea, cucumber salad, panang curry beef, rainbow sushi roll, and Udon chicken soup. Be cautious of the chili paste, and be aware that although I ordered the panang curry mild, it was still quite spicy. I do have to say I was disappointed that more menu items were not gluten free besides curries and two noodle dishes, but still, the food was delicious.

Food was phenomenal, lunch specials were on point. The decor was nice and quirky with prop dinosaurs . Service was remarkably fast. Will be coming back for Thai & sushi combos

Too bad they missed and opportunity for a picture perfect plating.

Let me be the first to introduce you to Moringa Thai Sushi of Monroe. I don't exactly know how long they've been open for business, but their Facebook page first posted a "soft open" on September 4th, 2024. We were told by friends this place was pretty good, so we decided to take a drive to see for ourselves. Monroe has a charming little downtown that spans roughly four city blocks and features a Historic 1883 Courthouse with clock tower. Many of the buildings and homes along Broad Street were built between the late 1800's and 1930's but have been refurbished. Several of the stores (particularly on the west side of Broad Street) have creaky floors that move under foot and walls that often feature exposed brick. Moringa is unique in that it utilizes what appears to be an old skylight, adding further charm to the small yet attractive dining space. The server staff is very new, so a little patience will go a long way in making the best of your experience. Rest assured the food is good, albeit rather pricey for such a small town and such small portions. Here is everything we ordered over several visits: [ THE FOOD ] MANGO w/STICKY RICE (5+ stars) | $9.95 * DESCRIPTION: Sliced fresh mango served with warm sticky rice smothered in condensed coconut milk. * VERDICT: This ranks with some of the best I've ever had anywhere. It alone is worth coming for a visit and truly transports me to my happy place! PANANG CURRY w/SHRIMP (4.75 stars) | $22.95 * DESCRIPTION: Curry with coconut milk, broccoli, red & green bell peppers, and basil leaves. Served with a cup of white rice. * VERDICT: AMAZING flavor! My only complaint would be the portion size in comparison to the price. SPICY CATFISH (4.5 stars) | $25.95 * DESCRIPTION: lightly battered crispy catfish sautéed w/eggplant, mushrooms, white onions, Thai peppercorn, bamboo shoots, basil leaves, red & green bell peppers in a roasted chili paste. Served with a cup of white rice. * VERDICT: DELICIOUS! I wish they were a little more generous with the catfish, but the flavor is fantastic! I personally could do without the eggplant. CALAMARI APPETIZER (4 stars) | $10.95 * DESCRIPTION: Fried crispy calamari served with a homemade tamarind sauce * VERDICT: Excellent, but portion size seemed too small. Dipping sauce was amazing! CRISPY CRAB ROLLS (4 stars) | $7.95 * DESCRIPTION: crab meat with cream cheese seasoned with Thai herbs. * VERDICT: A spring roll version of crab rangoon, except the cream cheese is not as sweet. However, the sweet dipping sauce is a perfect companion. SPRING ROLLS (3.5 stars) | $6.95 * DESCRIPTION: Stuffed with cabbage, carrot, celery, and noodle. * VERDICT: We've had better spring rolls, but the dipping sauce really helped elevate the flavor! MORINGA GARDEN w/TOFU (3.5 stars) | $17.95 * DESCRIPTION: Napa, broccoli, carrot, bell pepper, onion, bean sprout, and tofu with garlic soy sauce. Served with a cup of white rice. * WIFE'S VERDICT: Good, but needed just a tad more flavor. SPICY LOMEIN SOUP (3.5 stars) | $17.95 * DESCRIPTION: LoMein noodle, carrot, napa, pouched egg topped with pork katsu * VERDICT: You can choose between 4 levels of spiciness - mild, medium, hot and Thai Hot. I chose medium, which was perfect for me. The broth seemed slightly more flavorful than the ramen, but I was very disappointed they only offer a HARD-BOILED egg instead of a soft-boiled & marinated ajitsuke tamago. I also would have preferred pork chashu to katsu (see ramen verdict below). RAMEN (2 stars) | $17.95 * DESCRIPTION: Ramen noodle, seaweed, scallions top with pork katsu * VERDICT: IMHO this is not good ramen. The mild broth is bland and the seaweed makes the broth taste worse. The pork katsu is nicely cooked, but doesn't have much flavor and gets soggy very quickly. It would taste much better if they served chashu (braised pork belly) instead of the katsu (breaded & fried pork cutlet). Also, instead of a deliciously marinated ajitsuke tamago, they offer a simple HARD-BOILED egg. Ramen eggs (when done right) are one of my favor reasons to eat ramen. So if you are going to order soup, do yourself a favor and order the Spicy Lomein with the katsu on the side. Same pork, egg and seaweed found in the ramen, but slightly better broth flavor and a few veggies added. SIDE NOTE: I'm honestly not quite sure there was ANY difference between the broths other than the spice level, but it certainly seemed to add more flavor. [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] A good, yet somewhat pricey dining option if you happen to be in the Monroe, GA area. The Mango Sticky Rice, Panang Curry and Spicy Catfish are MUST TRY menu items! I also can't say enough good things about the dipping sauces for the crab & spring rolls. The Basil Fried Rice and the Sushi also looked like winners as we watched other diners enjoy those entrée. But I would avoid the ramen and order the Spicy LoMein Soup instead. Enjoy!

    Panang Curry, with Tufo! Delicious!

A very delicious plate of food, perfectly spiced. Food came out in a timely manner and our server was super friendly. Give it a try!

Good food! We had the basil rolls, yellow curry shrimp and pad Thai chicken. All of it was good. Quick and gracious server. Clean restaurant and decorated nicely. I've been here before and I've had their sushi also. Price is a little more than expected.

When I had tried the Nigiri, the salmon and rice was warm, with the salmon being soft, like the sashimi. TL;DR: Service was great, Ambience was great, and the food was served with glory and deliciousness. Overall a 5 star Japanese/Korean restaurant. Would recommend.

A restaurant can get away with being a dive if the food is great. I wasn't impressed however. I'm not a big fan of seaweed on the outside even when it's done well. This wasn't. While I absolutely love pickled ginger, I didn't even eat all of this. It was watery which led me to question its freshness. On the plus side the tuna rolls didn't make me sick so there's that. I also got teriyaki chicken. Chicken and veggies were ok but the fried rice was not very good.

I called in an order for my kids and went through the drive-through to pick it up. The gentleman working the window was very nice and helpful. I paid with my debit card, and he came back a moment later and told me their system had frozen and that he needed to run my card again. I handed him my card, but while he was attempting to run it a second time, I checked my bank account. Sure enough, the money had already been taken out of my account. I showed him the transaction on my banking app, and he told me to go ahead and park and they would have my order out to me shortly. A woman, who I believe was the owner, then came outside with a receipt showing their purchase history and told me they had not received the payment and would not be giving me my food. I showed her my bank account as well, but she still refused and told me I could come back Monday after I contacted my bank. The problem was, this was not something that happened on my end. The money had clearly been deducted from my account, and I explained to her that this was dinner for my children. Because the money had been taken from my account, I no longer had the money in my budget to simply go somewhere else and buy dinner. Instead of trying to work with me to resolve the situation, she began yelling at me. I asked if I needed to call the police, and she told me to call them--so I did. The officer arrived and tried to help us come to a resolution. Even with me showing proof that the money had been deducted from my account, she still refused to give me the food I had ordered and paid for. Thankfully, the gentleman who had originally helped me came back outside and eventually offered a solution: they would give me my food if I left my driver's license number and card number in case they needed to run the payment again. After everything was finally resolved, I received our food--but by that point, it was cold. I understand that technology glitches happen. I understand that a business needs to make sure it gets paid. What I don't understand is refusing to work with a customer who is standing there showing proof that the money has already been taken from their account, especially when the customer is explaining that this is dinner for their children and they don't have additional money available to purchase another meal. The way this situation was handled was extremely disappointing. We genuinely loved Sake Express, which honestly makes this even more upsetting. Unfortunately, after tonight, we will not be going back.
