This week was pizza week and I tried the mellow mood pizza. It was ok, it felt like it was missing something in flavor but not sure what it was. I used to come here for their buffalo soldier pizza. Our service was slow to start but eventually was better towards the end. We tried their wings and potato skins for apps. The wings had sort of a funky taste to them not sure why. They were cooked well and had a nice crisp though. I used to come here all the time and it has been probably been 2 years since I've been. The Italian margarita was great still and they seemed to be busy. I would come back to try a different pizza. read more

I came here with a friend on a weekday for lunch, and snagged a spot in the small parking lot behind. Service was efficient and friendly. We ordered a Sicilian pep (which actually serves probably closer to two people, not three) and a Mr. Brown. The Mr. Brown had great mushroom flavor, but I couldn't appreciate any truffle at all. The cheese was also crispy rather than my preferred -- gooey/stringy. I also sampled my friend's Sicilian pizza. The crust was lacking the pillowy chew (I expected a slightly firmer foccacia texture), and instead had a harder crunch. Can you believe they started as food truck for Mad tree Brewing and then moved to Mad tree 2.0 (no longer there) ,then extended their business in different locations. Wow! Pretty impressive. We used to eat at the Mad tree location almost every month. Now we're missing them and wanted to check out this nearest location to where we live. Love the inside! Has a contemporary rustic feel. They stepped it up and added outdoor igloos/seating, carry out wine and beer, specials during the week and extended their menu selection! Love it! We dined in on a Friday night. Fairly busy but was seated right away. Ashely was our server and was very friendly/attentive. We ordered: Drinks: La Serra Chianti Colli Sendai Madtree Seeing Colors Appetizer: Jalapeño popper potato skins Dinner: Mr Brown 10" Rebel Ranch 10" So when we got our food it was even better than the last time I had it at Mad tree. Presentation, quality and taste improved. Not that it was bad but I'm impressed with this location. The crust on the pizza is always on point and love the ingredients. They pair so well. We passed by catch a fire pizza on a Saturday night so we decided to try it. We were kind of set off on the wrong foot because their parking lot is very small and hard to navigate and it didn't help that there was a jerk that as we had our turn signal on to pull into a spot flew in front of us and cut us off to take it. I've been wanting to try Catch a Fire for several years after seeing it pop up on multiple "Best Pizza" lists in Cincinnati, and it didn't disappoint. We stopped in for lunch on Super Bowl Sunday and were quickly seated in the bar area with good view of the TVs. Our server suggested some pizza options and answered our questions helpfully and thoroughly. Our pizza came out within 10 minutes piping hot and was amazing! My lady and I became fans of Catch-a-fire when they had a place inside Madtree Brewing. That's no longer there now, and we were missing the place, so we decided to check out this location for a fix. Glad we did because I think we enjoyed it even more. Excellent pizza, great selection of libations, and awesome service from our server Ashley. We rolled in on a Friday evening and the place was pretty busy but we were still say right away. The place looks very relaxed and laid back. There's plenty of seating at the bar area and all around. There's a good amount of outside seating too and they do the snow globe seating during winter too. The menu is a bit bigger than I remember from Madtree with lots of options for pizza, pizzadillas (quesadillas with pizza toppings), salads, wings, starters, and more. They also have a great drink menu with beer, wine, specialty cocktails, and mocktails. My lady and I started with a glass of Chianti, a pint of Madtree Seeing Colors, and an order of jalapeno popper potato skins. Those potato skins are ALWAYS great! As for our pizzas, my lady got the Mr. Brown, and I got the Rebel Ranch, both 10". Since the pizza kitchen is very close by, we were watching the cooks toss the dough around, making all the pizzas. We hardly waited long at all before both were ready and even better than we remembered from at Madtree. Of course, we had another round of libations, same as the first round. Our server, Ashley, was super friendly and very attentive. One of the best servers we've had in a while I'd say. And speaking of libations, they even have bottles of wine and packs of beer to go, and at excellent prices. Excellent pizza spot! We went for the first time for Cincinnati pizza week. They had two specials going on for this location. They were featuring the one love Pizza and the potato heads pizza. Both were only $10 for the Cincy pizza week!! The one love pizza is your classic cheese pizza, it had a stringy pull and with red pepper flakes, it was really good! The potato head pizza was our favorite, the crust was really crispy, and it had ranch on it, which we really enjoyed. It is something we would re-order again in the future! We've had this pizza at madtree several Times and finally had a chance to stop in for the full service restaurant experience. We'll be back! Our server Patricia was fabulous! She was quick witted and funny, knowledgeable about the menu, had great recommendations and took great care of us. We arrived on a busy Saturday to a short wait. We ordered cocktails and waited in the bar area. The restaurant isn't huge but tables seemed to turnover quickly and they kept service moving. The dining room has some tables and booths. I stopped here for the first time -- and between the friendly service and the vegan options, it looks like I have a new favorite option for local pizza! I ordered the Vegan Vibes pizza. It ranked among the best vegan pizzas I've had in Cincinnati between multiple plant-based proteins and a nice heat from the BE-Hive sausage (which I think is technically their chipotle chorizo). My husband tried the Cherry Oh Baby, which is listed as Catch-a-Fire's signature pizza. He liked it, but the cherries got a little too sweet for him. I'm curious about the Pizzadilla, and they have create-your-own options with vegan toppings. So I'll be back soon to check that out. read more

Catch a Fire is one of those rotations, maybe not weekly because it's not close to me but anytime I'm at Kenwood Mall area CAF is top of mind. I'm pretty basic and get a Caesar salad and the cornerstone pizza, but simple is still yummy! Be mindful though, this place gets very busy on Friday nights. I was in Cincinnati a few weeks ago and made my way to catch a fire pizza for dinner. They have a a bunch of different options to choose from and the food quality was excellent. l ended up going with their Italian meatballs as an app, which has basil oil, ricotta and focaccia. These were very tender and tasted great. The focaccia was a nice compliment to the dish as well. For my main course, I went with their Three Little Pigs pizza, which had pepperoni, Italian sausage and prosciutto. It also had a four cheese blend, and I chose to add bacon per the chef's recommendation. This pizza was delicious as it was packed with flavor and everything tasted fresh. The crust was cooked perfectly and it kept me coming back for more. This is easily another place that I would revisit based on my experience. The staff was attentive and the food was great. I'm shocked I've forgotten to review Catch-a-Fire before! We've been going to Madtree since we moved to the area two years ago. And started coming to Blue Ash last year! There is nothing we don't love about them! Every pizza we've had we've loved! And we share the Caesar salad which is prepared perfectly! My husband loves IPA's and this time tried Madtree's Rounding Third which is a red IPA which was very good!! Their staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Derrick (bar manager) exceeded every aspect of customer service. He is calm and helpful to everyone. I loved that he doesn't hesitate to suggest something. I absolutely love Catch a Fire. I was an early adopter from their beginnings and it was so nice to finally see the fruits of their labor at this gorgeous dedicated space. The atmosphere is just amazing. There is plenty of indoor dining as well as a great outdoor patio. While the main lot is quite small, more parking is available in another lot behind the main. The staff is very nice. I ordered ahead online for take out. The order was ready as promised. We tried two different pizzas, The Jammin and the Crazy Potato Heads. Both pizzas had great crisp crust, fresh toppings, and multi dimensional flavors. I love the idea of potato on pizza along with a creamy kick. The combo of sweet and savory on Jammin was perfect. Scanning back through the first few years of my Yelp reviews--I've been around here since 2009--I can see that I didn't pull any punches when it came to Cincinnati pizza. Pretty sure that I dismissed Cincinnati as a "Pizza Wasteland" more than once. I don't think I was wrong. At the end of "Goodfellas," Henry Hill complained about life as a witness-protection-program "schnook"; in his exile, he ordered spaghetti with marinara sauce and got "egg noodles with ketchup." Pizza in Cincinnati wasn't quite that awful, but underbaked, floppy, flavorless crust and under-seasoned too-sweet sauce were the norm back then and bad enough to at least remind me of the movie scene. But as with some other food items and cuisines (think Mexican) in Cincinnati, things around here have picked up dramatically since that time with pizza. Back during the warm weather months of 2020, when there was no COVID vaccine and social distancing was a serious matter, we simply weren't dining indoors at restaurants. Catch-a-Fire's pleasant patio put it in our regular rotation, and it has largely stayed there. The personal-sized pizzas were a great value then, and still are even after the recent inflation. More importantly, they're excellent: wood-firing at high temps results in crust with some crispness, toothsomeness, and flavor to it (usually some slight charring, which helps), and tomato sauce with easily more flair than the average. I'm not at all a vegetarian, but my preference with pizza is non-meat toppings. The "Natural Mystic" (the name of the restaurant comes from a Bob Marley album and most (all?) of the specialty pizzas are named after Marley songs) is a bit of a Margherita variation, with pesto added for additional boldness, and it is terrific. Service is a little uneven, and I'm adjusting for the period when the pandemic was doing a number on restaurant staffing. At Catch-a-Fire, it's seemingly more of a management issue: on a couple of occasions, multiple staff members have been standing around the register doing nothing while a couple of servers are racing around trying to deal with too many tables. But individual servers have always been friendly and professional. Also, as an old-man-in-training I've finally come to really like the music of Bob Marley. But you most likely won't hear it or anything like it in this restaurant: Instead, the sound system usually features some generic, safe electronic music that you might get at the Gap. Either that, or some undistinguished hippie-ish rock. The volume stays pretty low, though, and it's ultimately pretty harmless. For whatever reason, the pizza at this Blue Ash location seems consistently better than that at the Madtree brewery where it was sold before this place opened. And the smaller pizzas seem better than the larger ones, which have had a bit of sogginess in the center once or twice. Four-plus stars. read more

We go to catch a fire at least once a month and for the past 3 years we celebrate NYE there with friends in an igloo. If you haven't tried out an igloo, you're missing out. It's private, cozy, warm even in the winter (they put a space heater inside) and the lights give a soft twinkling glow. We always start with the fire bites, boursin potato skins and the meatballs. We typically do 3-4 pizzas, one being gluten free. We did the cherry oh baby- it's amazing. The mellow Mood, the natural mystic and the GF some bbq. Listen, I didn't intend for Catch-a-Fire Pizza to become the best pizza I've tried yet in the 4 years since moving to the greater Cincinnati area, especially for the litany of reasons below, but it's hands down THE best pizza in the area! Pros: Adult libation selection: 11/10 Quality of food & choices: being GF & DF is a challenge when pizza is concerned, you are lucky if there is 1 GF crust or 1 DF cheese. Here? SEVERAL choices, for both GF crust and DF cheese, it was heaven! The crust was cracker like in a good way, and substantial enough to accommodate the toppings. The GF was a brand I've never heard of, must be because it's the best kept secret of all dairy free cheeses in the universe. It was so good I bet even a dairy consuming cheese lover would like it. Cons: Location: I'm not close to any of their 3 locations, and this location is slightly precariously situated. I can see the parking lot being a challenge. Price: expect to pay double for the same amount of food and drinks that you would order at Mellow Mushroom. Mark up on alcohol seems to be double that of the commonly accepted regular store bought price. I was kinda underwhelmed by the pretzel bites, expected more, especially after being blown away by the flavor and quality of the pizza. All in all, I would dine here again, because it truly is the best pizza to date I have tried around here, and would strive to avoid the alcohol list, because #inflation. read more

Went in for a late Sunday lunch to avoid the normal lunch and dinner crowds. I love a thin pizza crust so I was excited to try this wood-fired option. The menu had lots of specialties to choose from (vegan and vegetarian options included) as well as a build-your-owm option. I went for a small half Natural Mystic (similar to margherita but with a pesto drizzle) and half Italian Herbsman, but I subbed the red sauce for a pesto sauce. My only complaint was that the service was a bit slow, especially considering the restaurant was pretty empty at the time. Pizza was great though. Perfect crispy crust without a charred taste, good toppings amount, and warm temp. The pesto does have a strong lingering taste though, so be sure you're definitely a pesto fan if you opt for it. read more

We finally tried this place tonight and really enjoyed it. There's a decent craft & rare beer selection, as well as a wine selection. After my husband ordered a beer - we both ordered a small 10 inch pizza. My husband ordered a pepperoni & mushroom pizza and I ordered the Mr. Brown. It has roasted garlic & olive oil, mushrooms, truffle oil, parmesan & romano cheese. My pizza was awesome! It had a really great flavor. My husband liked both his pizza and the beer. Our server, Cam, was friendly, attentive without hovering, and quick. There's a patio for outdoor dining, a bar inside (although I don't think they serve liquor) and the wood fired pizza ovens are in the back of the dining room. I have been hunting down the holy grail of wood fired pizza here in Cincinnati. I don't really consider myself a connoisseur of fine dining - but, I do know a great pizza when I leave wishing that I had taken one to go! It's nice to learn their story too - from food truck to opening their first brick and mortar location. Let's hope they open up more places soon! We were greeted by a very welcoming and smiling staff - it was nice out so we decided to try out the patio. I am glad we did - it was nice to enjoy the late afternoon sun and a light breeze with our pizzas. The Knotty Bread appetizer was perfectly crispy and garlicky - just enough to jump start our pizza order. Being a big fan of anything pork - I tried the Three Little Pigs. A very nice combination of four cheese, Sausage, prosciutto and pepperoni. The crispy crust and the smokiness of the wood fired oven elevated this offering to another level of goodness. Our server, Amy was quick to refresh our drinks and was attentive to our needs. Her energy and enthusiasm really added that special touch to our dining experience! Ate inside on a Saturday evening. Used the Yelp app to check in the waitlist since we have a baby, it's important that we get seated as soon as possible. Their booths are comfortable enough to bring an infant carrier. They do such a great job here. Our server was very professional, friendly and attentive. We got our drinks in a timely manner. My husband likes their house diet soda. I got a can of Madtree, but their drink selection is great. Their food is awesome. The large Caesar salad was delicious, the nati bread was the right amount of food (good bier cheese too) and the Three Little Pigs pizza was awesome. This is a bit too posh for us. At least mirroring posh. It's a comfy little gathering spot with a high priced product and a loud bustling atmosphere. Mrs. E. compares it to the Gremlins Christmas party (but no gremlins were swinging from the ceiling fans). Is that an obscure enough reference? It's very popular, in fact, there was a party of 30 women in the other room while we were there. I found the pizza delightful. Our friends thought it pretentious. Mrs. E. said the pizza at Costco was better. It's a thin crust pie with different options. We ordered a four cheese, three meat item called Three Little Pigs. I liked the open fire char style. It's important to distinguish a burnt pizza from one that's charred. This pizza even tasted great after reheating and just plain day old cold. Still, it certainly doesn't justify the cost of $25. They have an outdoor patio with little igloos, for a price. We were told it's an extra $10 to use one, when they're available. The server didn't know. I don't know if it's every night but on this one they played a nice bluegrass mix, Soggy Bottom Boys, John Prine and Iris DeMent, etc, the good stuff. We reserved an igloo last night to celebrate a lil something. We were excited to come here bc we live in downtown Lebanon and they are soon to open a location in WALKING DISTANCE to where we live!!! Hannah was our server- 5 stars. She was delightful and kind....and very busy. I know staff shortages are everywhere and we couldn't be more sympathetic to that so we expected to wait. I see some people on here still complaining about that and to them i say "stay at home"! FOOD: VEGANS UNITE(with chef suggestion of vegan sausage added)- 5 stars! Holy cannoli this pie is wicked tight and ridiculously tasty. We were soooo impressed. The cashew ricotta...i say damn that's swell!!! So frickin' great. We were silent on the car ride home. I asked my wife what she was thinking about and her reply "that pizza"...i said "me too!" We also had a vegan pie with dairy free parm and shredded chz with vegan pepperoni and sausage. I had nostalgic feelings about this pie and it took me back to memories of my childhood...it just flicked a switch in me, it was a lovely pizza induced trip down memory lane. I give this pie 5 STARS!!! We ordered knotty pretzels but they were out...we were fine with it, however Hannah gave us a complimentary veganized cheezy bread that was......5 stars damn it!!! Second time there. Gave it a pass the first time, which was a few years ago. Inattentive server, fruit flies everywhere (sign of a filthy bar). Waited 20 minutes for a margarita, and the food just isn't good. It's a shame, because it's a beautiful building in a great location. I'll never go back. read more
