First time coming here and I have to say, what a breath of fresh air! The atmosphere is very homelike and soothing. The staff are very friendly with a southern family vibe. We ordered an appetizer and ended up getting very full. They bring fried okra and beans to the table: fixins... We ordered a 2 piece fillet meal and it was so much food. I like the breading, it's light and crisp, but not greasy at all. Their house salad with feta vinaigrette is now my favorite thing in Clarksville. I am upset with myself that I didn't have room for pie, but it gives me another reason to come back soon. read more

Mediocre catfish, but overall enjoyable. Due to less than impressive catfish in the past, I always order it cajun style. Unfortunately, the cajun style wasn't much more flavorful. For a moment, I thought I lost my taste buds, but the coleslaw, white beans, nor the loaded potato suffered such blandness. Now, let me say that the catfish was cooked well, the inside was moist as tender, the outside crispy but under-seasoned. The coleslaw was good, slightly too sweet, but tasty. The white beans tasted great and were the standard mushy quality of low slow cooking. The best were served with some pepper jelly, which was first for me, but it worked well together. The flavor is reminiscent of bbq baked beans. As for the loaded potato, it's a loaded potato, if you mess that up, close your doors ad rethink your path in life. I would give them four stars if I ordered catfish at a steakhouse, but a CATFISH house should always be on their catfish game. read more

You can find Catfish House at 1461 Zinc Plant Rd, Clarksville, TN 37040 west of Cumberland Dr and the other side of the Cumberland River. Parking is in the very large lot to one side and front and is of course free. I've eaten at the original location on Salem Rd before the restaurant moved to this new, larger building on more than one occasion. This is a favorite spot for my brother's family which still lives locally and home to many happy home-cooked style meals. This new location is a bit nicer than the previous with a large foyer where your family can wait while the table is being prepared. The new location is definitely an upgrade over the old and can seat and service more people. On this most recent occasion about 10 of us descended on an unsuspecting restaurant and demanded exceptional service and great food - surprisingly, the Catfish House provided both. Here you order individual entrees and appetizers and are served several accompanying dishes, like navy beans and slaw, family style. Probably their most popular dish is the signature catfish - this is dressed in cornbread and lightly fried or can be ordered grilled or as a whole fish. Tonight we ordered some fried pickles to start and then various seafood combinations, most with hush puppies, fries, steamed veggies or baked potatoes. Everything I tasted (and believe me when I say I got a bit of pretty much everything) was exceptionally prepared. I liked everything - even the beans and slaw (and I can be picky about both). Another standout for me was the fried shrimp - I think I could do a double order of these. Service was as mentioned previously exceptional. I don't remember the guy's name but he was very attentive, personable and remembered what we ordered. Food came out about 15 minutes after we ordered and everything that was supposed to be hot was hot, while cold items were appropriately chilled. Can't ask for much better than that. I'm not fond of southern home cooking, but this place is my grandmother's favorite place to eat so we came here today for lunch with her while we were in town. The first thing I noticed is they fry just about everything here! Even corn! Also they are very generous with sides. Before you order they bring you a bowl of okra. At some point they also bring you coleslaw and beans. Hubby got a Spicy Sirloin and loved it so much he didn't save me a bite at all! Their house salad was fantastic and totally worth the few bucks. It came with lots of stuff on it- even bacon! I am sad I only got a bite of hubby's- next time I'll get my own! Tonight we decided to have dinner at the Catfish House, and I'm so glad that we did. It was our first visit since they relocated to Zinc Plant Road, and tucked away in such a beautiful spot. The driveway is lined with big boulders and gorgeous trees. The restaurant itself is a stunning cabin style building with a giant covered porch, complete with rocking chairs, of course. The inside looks as you would expect a Catfish house to look like. It's a fried food heaven! The food, mmmmmmm!!! I'm as full as a tick on a hound dog right now. When we ordered our sweet teas, they automatically brought out a complimentary bowl of perfectly fried okra to snack on while we waited. I ate almost all of it by myself. Hubby isn't an okra fan...sorry 'bout his luck! He ordered a ribeye, med rare (it was spot on), fried corn on the cob (neither of us cared for the breading on it, but I insisted he order it because of all the positive reviews), and a salad. I ordered the catfish strip dinner with fries, coleslaw, and white beans. I wasn't a big fan of the French fries, but the white beans were bangin', especially after I crumbled my hush puppies up in them. Our service was not so good. We were seated for five minutes before we were even approached to ask what we'd like to drink, and even then it wasn't our server. He (our server) never gave his name, and was inattentive. Probably the best fried Catfish I have ever eaten. I have been going to this restaurant for years, originally in their former location and now in the present spot. I don't live close but it is on the route I take to visit family and some work related locations. It is one of those places you plan your trip around. Yes, it is that good! Besides the catfish, the sides are wonderful as well. I don't know how they cook fried fish and hushpuppys and they never are the least bit greasy! You want be disappointed! My latest visit was the day after Christmas '23 after we had unexpected chance to visit family for Christmas. We were on vacation and we had to come here twice, it was so good! They bring fried okra to the table and have plenty of options for food if you don't want fish. I had the crab cakes, french fries and house salad with ranch the first night. Whoa. Sooo good and moist. Great with or with out tarter sauce, and the french fries were crispy. The second night, I had the cajan catfish strips, house salad and the steamed veggies. The veggies had a slight spice to them and that was great! The tea is great there and they don't skimp on the lemons if you ask for them. Make sure to ask for napkins and plenty of sauces if you're needing them. They get busy! Watch the hours too! This was once in my opinion the best catfish restaurant in Tennessee, and I have ate at many of them. Over the years they have continually gotten worse but still pretty good until now. I ate the tonight as I was passing thru Clarksville. The first thing was that the fish was very either burnt or the grease was in bad need of changing. They brought the food out on tin pans. It felt like they were feeding me as I would dogs or something. The whole experience was just stressful. This was once a place that you could get all you could eat meals with large bowls of food you could get out and put on your plate to a place where you get small portions and not ever put on plates like people should eat from. I will never go back and my family and I have been going there at two different locations since the 1970's. read more

My wife got crab cakes and said they weren't very good so she didn't eat much of them. I had ordered fried corn on the cob but they didn't give it to us (this was a to go order). We also ordered 4 hush puppies but only got 3 and ordered 4 rolls and only got 1. They did give us two salads and some white beans we didn't order (and didn't eat). We don't typically eat fish, however, I couldn't resist from the other reviews. We loved being seated and getting the okra from the start. It was perfect and I am an okra lover. It wasn't overly greasy and had the right cornmeal breading. I ordered the seafood sampler as I wanted to try the catfish but not commit to it all. It came with scallops, oysters, shrimp, catfish, clams and a stuffed crab. I didn't like the oysters but that was purely because I don't like oysters. Being fried, I thought they would be tastier, but all I tasted was gooey salt water. If you like it great, but not for me. Nothing wrong with it though. The catfish was nice and crispy and had the same cornmeal batter. Shrimp was superb! The coleslaw can be either vinegar or Mayo. I got the vinegar first and he said if I didn't like it he would bring the other. That happened as it was very vinegary. But the Mayo was good for someone who doesn't like mayonnaise. Hubby got the chicken Alfredo and because he helped me eat my meal, I haven't tried that yet. It's lunch for tomorrow. The carrot cake is also house made and really good. I recommend it. All that said, it's a lovely place by the river and has a good ambience. Service was great. I highly recommend. The one thing to note is the fried corn on the cob is just ok for us. It was different. My preference is med-rare when eating in so I get rare in take out because I'll need to heat it once Home. Unfortunately this was well cooked before I could heat it.
