It's been years since visiting Cattlemens, but my first visit at the Dixon location. I was surprised to see it was packed on a Friday evening. It's definitely a popular spot for the locals. The wait time was around 25 minutes. I highly suggest making reservations as many guests before us have done so. To start things off I ordered two rounds of Sierra Neveda Hazy IPA. My dinner date and myself are alike so we both ordered the 12 ounce prime rib dinner. She got the steam vegetables as a side. I on the other hand had the fries. I do enjoy the unlimited salad! It also includes a side of beans. Our waitress was excellent! I rarely get that type of service. Very attentive and upbeat. I would definitely return but better to have a reservation or maybe visit on a weekday. read more

We had a great experience here. The service was great, and we're able to get a seat in the bar within 5 minutes while the wait for the dining room was much longer. Food was really good, except for the cut of Ribeye that I got which had a ton of chewy membrane, and a very small ribeye cap. We ate at the Cattlemen's in Dixon. We come here quite a bit and usually leave very satisfied. But today Thursday Oct. 2 it was disappointing. Not the service but the steaks. For the first time the cuts of meat we ordered ( the sheriff and the filet mignon) were very tough. I had to saw through my filet. Same with the sheriff. Our first time to Dixon Cattlemen's. It was great from start to finish! They were super busy. Still... Our reservation was on time. Our server Tara was amazing and obviously seasoned. I appreciated her experience and service so much. She had a great support team too. She was friendly efficient and communicated EVERYTHING. When she greeted us she had a basket of hot bread which made my husband very happy. It was good sourdough with a nice crust and warm soft butter. Waters immediately to follow. We did dinner for two. The artichoke dip was delicious like made at home. Salad was fresh and dressing boats were fun. Filet was perfectly cooked. Baked potato was perfect. Prime Rib was tasty too. Mashed potatoes really good and not instant . We had a side of onions husband loved them...very spicy. We finished off with a cowboy brownie sundae. This was embarrassing. I was hosting two friends from Seoul, South Korea, and a fourth colleague. The service, and staff were nice, and polite. However the food was absolutely terrible. Myself, and my two Korean friends all ordered the same thing. Rustler Ribeye with upgraded garlic french fries, and deep fried apple pie. The Ribeye was bland with no flavor, and tougher than shoe leather. There was no marbling fat. The garlic french fries were a soggy mess. Mashed potatoes would have been less soggy. The deep fried apple pie was mushy, soggy, and cold, not crispy. The only thing they didn't ruin was the salad, bread was rock hard though. I felt like a schmuck bringing my two friends who traveled all the way to the USA to eat this barely edible "food". I wanted them to experience a real "American Steakhouse". Wow!!! Husband and I came for our 19th anniversary dinner. We were early and they took us straight in. Our waiter (Nick) was great and very attentive. Made sure we had everything we needed. Before our drinks came out the Manager Kendrick came over to check on us and he was amazing! We chatted for a second and he found out that it was our Anniversary and he made sure that we got a couple of glasses of champagne. Wished us a happy anniversary and many more to come. 5 Overall is what I'm rating this place. When it comes to food and service they're great but when it comes to availability ...prepare yourself in advance. Luckily a week prior to Valentine's Day I went ahead and made arrangements because I wanted something low key with steak for my fiance and I. When we came in the parking lot was 95% full and the place looked 110% packed. Even with the reservations we still had to wait 30 mintues to get to our seats. When we were finally called we had to endure the mad dogging stares people who were waiting without reservations gave us. Nevertheless we ordered our tumbleweed onion appetizer in case we had to wait awhile for our steak. Because our eyes were bigger than our bellies, we both ordered The Sheriff which was a 2lb sirloin that came with a tossed salad, I chose vegetable medley while the fiance chose a loaded baked potato. They did a great job with the sirloin because they were so tender. We wanted to take our time to enjoy our food but we could tell that that customers outside were getting restless. We were stuffed quickly and had our food to go which lasted us both another 2 days. So biggest takeaway from this experience...make reservations or go at a time with less customers. read more

We went to dinner at Cattlemen's restaurant in Dixon to celebrate an 80th birthday. Great food and lots of it! The steaks were cooked to perfection. They have lots of booths for seating which we prefer because it gives a level of privacy that you don't have at a regular table. Our waitress, Tara Olson, was exceptional. She was very friendly and accommodated all our requests. She was efficient and checked in frequently to see if we needed anything. Came here for a late lunch/early dinner with my husband and left with great food and a real-life hero story. Tara was our waitress and instantly made the experience better with her friendly, funny, and personable vibe. Then things took a dramatic turn when another guest began to choke and Tara jumped into action, calmly performing the Heimlich and literally saving a life. Yes, our waitress doubled as a superhero. We made a reservation for 6pm, and showed up a little early and they sat us right away. The rustic look and feel of this place is very warm and inviting. The employees are welcoming and very polite. My husband ordered a cowboy drink with pineapple juice,cranberry juice, rum, and sprite. It was nice and refreshing. since it is close to my birthday, I ordered a full rack of beef ribs. One of the only places I have seen that has beef ribs on the menu. We also ordered The Pete's special steak, and and order with the steak and crab. You get unlimited sourdough bread and salad. They also bring a small pot of baked beans to the table. 3 of us got baked potatoes with sour cream, butter, and chives. The other two ordered the rice pilaf as the side. Everything was cooked perfectly. All the steaks were cook just like ordered, and my ribs were phenomenal. Even though I only ate 3 of them, I brought the rest home. My husband, when he made the reservation, told them we were celebrating my birthday, so they gave me a cowboy hat and ice cream and sang to me. always embarrassing, but fun. The workers there work so hard to keep plates out of people's way, it is very nice. Only thing I would suggests it getting the busses to also get drinks for people. RAW STEAK!!!!!!! The tag says EXTRA WELL!!! Cattlemen's is good for serving RAW/UNDERCOOKED FOOD!!!!! They need to fire the kitchen staff!!! Immediately and hire someone who knows how to cook. If you look at all of the reviews most of them are about how uncooked the steaks are. I'm sick of this. The damn potato wasn't even cooked. That's bad the potato was even under cooked. Save yourself the trouble and just take the drive to Ruth Chris Steak house or go to Outback. Those places can get your order right the first time and cooked the way you like. And the Customer Service is great as well. The people at Cattelmens are like drinking Champagne on a Lemonade Budget. These people think they are high class but not close. Always a treat whenever we come to Cattlemens! Our most recent visit was on an early evening on a Sunday and thr place was packed at 5pm. We waited 30+ minutes for a table and there were lots of family still waiting for tables after we got in. The dinner for two was always the BEST most bang for your bucks! We got the artichoke dip and Ribeye as entrees. The salad was served family style and technically, you could keep asking for more helping! Our steak was so so so good. It could have salted a bit more, but the most notable was certainly that charbroilled fragrance on their steak! So so so yummy! We closed the dinner with their apple pie served with vanilla ice cream, so yumm! The restaurant was busy, so they weren't very attentive, but they did come to ensure we got refills on our drinks a few times. Went here on a Friday night. Usually I make a reservation but not this time. Was worried that we will wait a while to get seated. Fortunately, upon our arrival we only had to wait just a few minutes to get us seated. Our server Samantha F. was very attentive, quick, nice and accommodating. She was quick to take all of our orders and appetizers and steaks came at the right time. The only issue that made this meal not five stars were the drinks. My daughter ordered ginger ale and when she tasted it, it didn't taste like ginger ale and tasted really weird like really bad tasting water. We asked our server to change it and she very nicely exchanged it with a strawberry lemonade this time and unfortunately, there was still that bad aftertaste. My daughter decided to just not drink it. As far as our soda drinks, it did have the same aftertaste also but slightly not as worse but still wasn't good regardless. Not sure what is going on and I hope management would look into this because it does ruin the meal overall which is unfortunate. On the positive side of it our steaks came out great and tasted good. We're traveling eastbound on the 80 near Dixon and there's a Cattlemen's right off the freeway! I used to love Cattlemen's happy hour offered in the bar area with a great food menu, but I think no longer offered. I guess they have some discounted drinks, but not food. Anyway, we decide to go into the dining room and get dinner. I know they offer beef ribs, on of my fave things to munch on, but I've not had Cattlemen's version yet. My friend gets the 12 oz prime rib ($33.00) and I get the full rack of beef ribs. ($30.00) Salads are included and it's fine, just regular salad. Our meat plates arrive. My friends prime rib looks good, cooked as ordered and my ribs take up the whole plate! Looking closer at my ribs, I'm a little disappointed at the amount of meat on the ribs, but I guess that's just the way beef back ribs are. It's the ribs that are carved off the prime rib roasts and the butcher would rather sell more of the meat for prime rib than sell as ribs. I'd of really liked it if Cattlemen's offered the real Texas style beef ribs, the plate or check short ribs, those flat bones with a ton of meat on one side. But no one around here offers those. I always wanted to try Cattlemen's. I'm a huge fan of Texas Roadhouse and we thought Cattlemen's would be similar. There was four of us. All adults. The table we were seated at was way too large for the space. The wood bench seating had very little room to get in and out of due to the large table. The appetizers, loaded potato wedges were over cooked, the spinach dip was watery, and all in all was disappointing. I had a 10oz sirloin. It was a thin piece of meat, more fat than meat, and burned on both sides. My wife's chicken was dry and cold. We do not recommend Cattlemen's. read more

If you're going on the weekend and you don't want a long wait you must make a reservation. Even with a reservation we had to wait 10-15 minutes. I ordered the petite prime rib and it was great. Really good steak. It was prepared perfectly. We ordered the medium and it was perfectly pink with brown on the outside. Just like it should be. The mashed potatoes were super creamy and very tasty. I like that they sprinkled green onions on top. I also really enjoyed the salad. I like that they serve it in a big bowl and you get to put your salad into your own salad plate while you share with others. The house Cabernet was good. The sourdough bread was really good. Party of 5, Monday night, Veterans Day. We decided to take our favorite Vet for a special dinner on Veterans Day, I wish I could say that this was a good visit but again the food has been just mediocre. We started with a very attentive waitress. Drinks and appetizers started and came out fast. Unfortunately, the calamari was not very warm. Actually it was room temp. We had 3 filets and one rack of lamb ordered. The lamb came out a little under cooked. Two out of three of the filets came out medium well which were supposed to be medium rare. We did send one back. Mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy. Such a bummer, I so want to love this establishment but for the cost of these meals I do expect to be more satisfied. read more
