I have visited Cattlemens for 30 years all locations. Had a birthday dinner for 2 friends and it was a little disappointing. You can only order happy hour drinks and food in the bar which I have mobility issues and it was frustrating. My prime rib wasn't as flavored as usual and my two friend's rib eye was pretty dry. I live about 45 minutes away and the service and food makes it all worth it. My partner and I always like to arrive at the tale end of the evening so we always feel bad for being that late group (we arrive at least an hour before closing) but here, we were welcomed by Tara O. Immediately. She give us options of either seating in the front of open bar. Tara was outstanding with delivery of the items and being attentive. We love to go to Cattleman's. My husband and I have dined there several times and it has always been a great experience. The staff are always happy to see us the minute we walk in. We are shown our table in just a few minutes. The food is always delicious and just the way we ordered. The waiters are so attentive and make our experience wonderful. The whole time we are there, it is a fun and great time. We always have food left over to take home too. My favorite location of them all! This spot is always busy so it's everyone's favorite! The complimentary bread is top both especially when it is fresh out of the oven and that's often. Food is pretty good, but our server this past time was amazing! Went for my wife's birthday, because of the spiked blackberry lemonade. Never had a bad time at this place, but this time, we had Caitlyn as our server, and she was awesome! My wife and I are both pretty dorky, and do t hide it, and Caitlyn just joined right in with the fun. She was also very quick with everything, and really made the night a lot better. We really appreciated her hard work, and fun personality. On a separate note, we also noticed how clean all the decor was. We never really looked before, but most places don't keep their taxidermy all that clean, and this place was spotless! Been going here since 1975. Brochettes meat was still very good. Salad not. Lettuce use to be cold. We are out of thousand island? How can that be? They use Kraft I think. Plus they changed their great Blue Cheese dressing for some low-budget stuff. I knew right off things changed for the worse. We went here for my father's birthday (they sang and he got a hat) and it was great food and even better service. At first they told us there were no booths and told us it would be a 40 min wait (we did have a reservation) even though the restaurant was not packed. Another waitress said it was ok to sit us in the open booth. She was very kind. When we sat down Caden was our waiter and he was AMAZING! He went above and beyond. He made sure everyone had everything we asked. Drinks were never low. He cleared things without being asked. He even brought out a salad with all the toppings on the side because my mother doesn't eat tomatoes but we all do. The place was pretty busy and the ambiance is like an old school steak place with a large bar area where you can seat yourself at either the bar or tables. This gets crowded because if there's a wait for the dining room, people start stalking the bar tables. It was very busy after 5:00 pm with a significant wait. I had an idea of how this place was going to be after seeing them around the various cities I travel through. I ordered the sirloin steak medium rare with Dungeness crab. Much like Texas Longhorns and Black Angus, there's a 50\50 chance they will not cook it properly. It was overcooked to medium. The steak had enough seasoning where it wasn't bad but definitely could have been cooked better. The crab wasn't bad but a little dry. The steamed veggies that I got with it were cooked nicely just the way I like it. Not overcooked, with a little bite to it. The service was a little off in the bar because they were overwhelmed and my wine finally came after I had three bites left of my steak. I would say the value would be hard to beat for what I got. My entree was $30. It also came with endless salad and a side of beans too. If you're looking for a great value for a decent steak then this is the place for you. I had a really great night at Cattlemens in Dixon! The atmosphere from even the parking lot had a jolly buzz, with every customer leaving laughing and smiling. I made a reservation and was able to be seated right away and was pleasantly surprised. There were big parties that were waiting, but in my small group it was zero wait. I really enjoyed my server, Jake he has a great positive attitude and pulls a smile out of you, which Is appreciated. I ordered the Ribeye and had both a twice baked potato and a sweet potato with pecan butter. I had the recommended blackberry lavender lemonade which was good too. I think they must've been having a rough day but due to the price I'm not willing to come back. My partner and I came for a date and spent $80 on a steak and a sizzling steak. We ordered both medium rare but sadly they came out very very rare. The photo is very blurry due to a broken camera. My sizzling order came out extremely pink, and when our server poured oil on it, nothing happened -- he offered to come back in a few minutes to try again. The shrimp I had ordered was no longer hot when it was brought out with the steak. After he came back to pour oil on it again, nothing happened a second time, though it turned grey-ish. I tried eating it but it was an extremely soft texture and raw, so I had to take it home to cook. My partner's steak had a sear but was also rare inside, and at times raw. Our server was attentive and checking in often. We had a booth off to the side so it was fairly quiet. We won't be back -- too expensive for us to order food when it comes this way. Sadly, I have no food photos to share as all thoughts were lost except for devouring the beef ribs and lamb lollipops ordered from their happy hour menu. My only regret is that I do not live near a Cattleman's restaurant. The servers were all pros and extremely patient with me and my table mates many queries. The bar and tables in the bar area were sturdy and the room lit at just the right happy hour dusk lighting. I highly recommend the lamb lollipops. The server informed me that I could order by the rib as I just wanted one or two beef ribs and not the full meal-that was a game changer for me. On this occasion bartender Sophie served me up my drink and asked if I wanted a splash of freshly squeezed lime in it. We were absolutely tickled to have come into Cattlemen's in Dixon yesterday afternoon for a pre birthday girlie celebration for my sister. We were too excited to even take photos which I always usually do, so my apologies.... I will add one here of a random great scene instead.... First we chose to sit in the bar area for that festive feel.... the atmosphere in here is very cool. We each had a drop drink, Cher opting for a regular lemon drop and I had the raspberry lemon drop. It is always badass when u get a nice little buzz on just one delicious sugar rimmed martini cocktail so this is another reason for a solid 5+ star review. Little did we know we were sitting next to one of the owners and one of their amazing managers.... and we, like all good "aware" customers, eavesdropped a tad and learned a bit about how they run this joint. The warm bread was chewy and perfect. I had shrimp scampi with baked tato and all the fixings and salad with blue cheese dressing And Cher had the salmon. Both our meals were DeeLicious. So happy!! A relaxed atmosphere with great music in the background, excellent food & bevvies and fun employees .... Yay-Yeah!! Wait a minute!! DREW !! we love you man!! Back when I was an undergraduate at UC Davis (close to 3 decades ago) I basically majored in the art of procuring sustenance AND alcohol for $10 or less. We knew where and which nights to do Happy Hour where. The Grad burger and 5 for 1 drinks AJ Bumps, Mr B's. Sudwerk opened and saved our lives l the Summer that we decided to stay in Davis and take Summer courses and could not afford to turn on air conditioning. All of this to say. Cattlemens was not on our rotation. We would blow our monthly food budget in a night. However, when parents came to take us to dinner, someone had a date with a rich guy, or there was something huge to graduate, Cattlemens was our aspirational choice. Speaking of choices, there are a ton of them to make and the main course is only the first one. The idea of stopping by Cattlemens Monday, came to me on my 40 mile bike ride in Tahoe. i was tired, there would be no traffic and i would likely not even have a wait on an early Monday evening, Also now that my pre-frontal cortex is fully formed, I can do the math and recognize that a meal here is a huge bargain because of the quality of the meat and the ridiculous amount of accoutrements that come with any main course. The salad bowl is reminiscent of the salad that I was in charge of making every night for dinner, but elevated because of the dressing choices. I like the balsamic so much.and in honor my dad,also got blue cheese and added a half teaspoon to the salad. I love a crisp, clean, lightly dressed salad . Take care not to fill up on the fresh baked bread and never order apps here because there are so many sides and extras. I could not resist sampling it though. My server, Richard, was absolutely perfect- charming, affable and absolutely vested in making sure his tables had a comfortable, but elevated experience. He kept my iced tea glass filled, which is very important to me . i was reminded that the BEST part of this restaurant- the food and service are so simple but special and the vibe is "come as you are, we are here to serve". As a solo diner, it was pleasant to sit at my booth ( I felt lucky to have a great seat at a super comfortable table. For my main event, I thought back to my visits in the early 80s. The presentation of the sizzling prime rib impressed me i I ordered it medium rare because always order quality meat medium rare, but the sizzling au jus does cook the meat a little more, so perhaps rare would have given me the perfect medium rare. The meat was intensely salty at the crust, but my portion was beautifully marbled , without too much inedible fat and tender and rich just as prime rib ought to be. The ranch beans are very special,warm and slow cooked to a creamy texture, served in their own little kettle with strong, but not overpowering warm spices. They are not as sweet as baked beans. i could literally eat the salad and beans almost daily because they could be easily worked into any menu. The misstep I took was ordering the special rustic twice-baked potato. This was absolutely delicious, but a little bit of " gilding the lily". It was like a baked potato, mashed potato and creme brûlée had a delicious baby. It was rich, but a slightly bland. I wish I had ordered a less filing and slightly healthier side. Dessert was kind of silly to contemplate. Taking the carrot cake home was a great call. Bravo Cattleman's. A relative bargain and a spectacular meal. read more
