So my fiancée and I decided to stop by on a Saturday evening. It was pretty packed and I suggest making a reservation. We were seated around 30 minutes after we checked in after a 24 minute time frame. Not bad. No complaints. We had somewhere to sit comfortably the entire time. We were seated by our waiter who introduced himself and got our drinks quickly. The salad and bread came out promptly. Then it went downhill. I ordered steak and crab and my fiancé ordered the rib eye, when they arrived they were not cooked according to our request. I requested rare and got medium. He asked for medium and got rare. I ate mine anyways but it was too bloody and asked the waitress to have it cooked to medium. A bit later a new plate was brought. Fresh steak and a baked potato. It was rare again. I took my family here Saturday for a nice steak dinner. I had reservations and it took 30 minutes to be seated. We waited for about 15 minutes befor anyone offered us something to drink and take our order. The order took 30 minutes to get our food and my steak was cold and my daughters mashed taters were cold. I was not a very happy person getting cold food in a big steak house like this. They heated up my steak and my daughters mashed taters in a microwave and it was kinda of dry but had good flavor. Coming back from a memorial service in the Sunset area of San Fran we hadn't eaten so decided to hit Cattlemens right at 4 pm sat. We walked into a totally packed restaurant/bar and found 2 empty spots at the bar. There was 1 bartender and he was swamped with all the drink orders so getting served food at the bar wasn't looking good. It was a bit weird as their large parking lot was practically empty but we still had an hour wait before we got seated. The menu font size (coupled with the dim light) is not very eye friendly but once you are able to make it out, you'll see almost everything on the menu is mouth watering. We opted for their dinner for two ($69.00) which is a bargain as they give you huge portions . Their steaks and prime rib temperature and taste was spot on, but unfortunately their ravioli could've use another minute or two in the cooker. Their rib eye was excellent. The mash potato and baked potatoes was cooked correctly. Garlic fries came out nice and crispy and their string onions are a must try. The dessert was on the very high end of the sweet/savory scale. We were so pleasantly surprised by our most recent visit here. We sat at the bar, which made all the difference because the bartender, Ellie, was the best bartender we've had at any Cattlemen's. The drinks were made perfectly and when we showed her that our sage-brushed steak wasn't cooked medium-rare as ordered (it came way past well-done) she made sure our issue was resolved very quickly and we ended up getting the tastiest steak I've ever eaten at a restaurant all because of Ellie's excellent customer service. We will add Cattlemen's back to our list of restaurants we'll visit every month because of this wonderful experience. 3rd & final strike tonight . I'm pregnant & high risk, I'm not allowed to stand on my feet for too long. So we've been going out to eat more & I've been saying, "Let's go to Cattlemens!" I asked the server about how a steak menu item is prepared, she said we can cook it however- so I ordered Well & asked for her to note that I'm pregnant (& said specifically I cannot eat anything pink, I will have to send it back if it's pink). It came out pink, I very nicely asked for it to be cooked longer until it's brown all the way through. 2nd time around when it came out- it was still pink & I decided I'd just take it home & finish cooking it. The last time we came here for dinner, I ordered a steak well done & butterflied, also said I was pregnant - that was pink too. I used to work in a steak house & butterflying is usually the way to go to have it cooked all the way through. The time before that - I got my BBQ chicken w/cheese dish after everyone had finished eating & it looked like my dish had been sitting under the heating lamp (forgotten??) all that time because the cheese had hardened it was so overcooked. My husband got a 25oz Sierra Nevada Hazy $9.50 which was a good price for the amount. They only had 2-3 beers on tap, which seemed odd to me considering the size of this place, and the fact that they have Happy Hour all day Mon-Thur. For an appetizer my husband ordered the Brussel sprouts $13.99 unfortunately the kitchen totally over salted them, even though they already come with Parmesan cheese, & a Balsamic glaze drizzled over them. I was kind of shocked my husband was the first to say they were too salty since he usually doesn't mind salty food. A manager came by to check on us, so he decided to let her know, so she put in another order. The 2nd order came out fairly quick, but once again they were still too salty since they drenched them in Balsamic Glaze. We basically gave up and just tried to focus on our salads, and yummy chewy SD bread. I had asked Mia for extra Ranch dressing earlier, but they only brought out one container, so I had to track down another server for some. For entrees I decided to get the Salmon dinner w/ Baked Potato $26.99 again since it was so good last time. My husband got the Smoky BBQ Bacon Burger dinner w/ Wild Rice $19.99 but the burger had very little bacon. It seemed like they might have been short handed in the bar area, so it took a while to get the attention of any servers walking by. We were in Davis for another soccer weekend and came up early on a Friday and wanted to feed our teenager a little protein before his weekend of games. All of the parties joining us were in route to this location to celebrate a 64th birthday for a reservation at 7:00 pm and get a call at 6:48 pm stating they will need to reschedule our dinner to another day as it's canceled. I tell them our guest are heading their and this will create a problem and she says I cancelled the reservation and we're closed... luckily we found another steakhouse and gladly paid them $923.03. If you find yourself on the 80 near Vacaville or Davis this place is right off the freeway next to a dispensary. You can't miss it! We came here from my birthday and they did us justice. Very friendly upon walking in and we did schedule a reservation before coming to the location. They do get packed and take in walk ins but if you don't want to wait long call a day or two ahead or early morning reservation. There are a lot of choices of cuts and the popular ones are the porterhouse and Pete's Special. They overcooked a steak but it wasn't bad so we just kept it. The waiter Kelly was super sweet and friendly. The whole crew was steady busy and helping each other out and tables don't stay dirty long. The manager was around and you can tell he is very engaged.
