So glad we came here , it's been years . Steak was yummy. My husband's prime rib was super tender and juicy . All you can eat salad is awesome. The warm sourdough bread was good. Our waiter was super nice and very attentive. We set up reservations online, a Friday night, and had no problem getting it. The restaurant dining area was super clean, however, the bathroom was pretty dirty and needed some attention. Can't wait to go back for another meal. read more

Eh, time to update the review and unfortunately not for the better. We live in Dixon, but only come to Cattlemens for special occasions, such as a birthday-altogether maybe 2-3 times per year. Until now, there were times when the service was great and others mediocre, but overall we had no major complaints. Tonight's visit was the worst so far. First thing we noticed were garbage bags and waste (some wood scraps and metal?) just sitting on top of the roof above the entrance. Not great for first impressions. We had no reservations, but it was Monday so we got seated quickly in the back, in the not-so-busy area. Not sure if this is where the non-reservations get seated since the front of the room looked much more lively. Anyway, our server came by shortly and took drink orders. We couldn't help but notice that she was definitely not of legal drinking age, so it didn't come as a surprise that she wasn't knowledgeable about beers they carry on tap. After the drinks, we ordered two appetizers and shortly after put our order in for the main course. Our server brought the salad and the bread, but the appetizers did not come out. She didn't bother to check if we needed anything during the half hour we waited or even tried to explain what is taking so long. About 40 minutes later, we got our main courses. At that time our server realized we didn't even get the appetizers, but instead of an apology, she just concluded that "someone was supposed to bring them" and "generously" offered to take them off the bill. The steak which I ordered medium, was definitely more on a medium-well or even well-done side, to which the server agreed with me and asked if I wanted another. Since I'd hate for the food to go to waste, I said it was fine and I'll take it as is, even though it is not to my liking because I don't want it to end up in trash (hopefully not on top of the roof by entrance). To be clear, I wasn't expecting to be fully comped for the overdone steak (which I was about to eat,) but some sort of a good will gesture-like a free drink-would be welcome. However, that didn't happen and all I got was a blank stare. I can't say this was an utmost terrible experience, but we are definitely used to more from Cattlemens'. Especially because it was a birthday dinner and our server didn't even try to find that out. Young servers are great, as long as they have some experience to lead them and proper training. For ours', seems like she didn't get either. It might've been just a bad night or we were unlucky to have an inexperienced server, but definitely won't hurry back to Cettlemens' after tonight's experience. Great service can make a good dinner memorable, and that's exactly what our server Cayden did for us. We were a party of 8, including two children under 4. Cayden handled everything with ease. He was attentive without hovering, checked in with us often, and somehow seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even asked. Our orders changed a couple times throughout the evening (another appetizer here, an extra bowl of salad there, few to-go boxes at the end), and he stayed completely on top of it. Our glasses were always full, everything arrived quickly, and the whole experience felt smooth and relaxed. The food was great too. The fried calamari was crispy and delicious, and the salad was fresh. I was impressed that Cayden even remembered the creamy horseradish i had casually mentioned towards the end of placing our order. Cayden was friendly, warm, and genuinely welcoming the whole evening. It's rare to come across someone so thoughtful. Starting with a super friendly, courteous and professional staff, from hostesses, waiters, chefs and management, who came to our table to check if everything was ok. We went to Cattleman's last night for my husband's birthday. I mentioned to the waitress that it was his birthday. Everybody got their happy birthday song, and my waitress comes back after everyone else in the restaurant get sing happy birthday and says that we're out of ice cream, would you like anything else? I'm thinking why don't you just bring whatever is in the back out? Like if you don't have ice cream just put a brownie and a candle in the thing? My husband doesn't like birthday celebrations, but I wanted something nice for him. It didn't dawn on me until after I went to bed last night that they pulled a bait and switch on my ribeye and gave me a smaller sirloin, yet still charge me $41 dollars for the actual ribeye that was supposed to take over the whole plate. The baked potatoes are a lot smaller than I remembered them being as well. Cutting corners everywhere. They need to hire at least 5-6 more waiters/waitresses. This place is always packed and the staff is ran thin. I won't be coming here for a while, charging me $41 dollars for the ribeye I wanted but giving me a small sirloin instead is underhanded. read more

Three of us went for happy hour for drinks and meal in the bar. We had a 10% off coupon from the University Hotel (which we discussed with the server when we sat down, which she forgot about when we paid out $80 bill). One of us that the lamb, one the brochette and one of us had the brochette with a bowl of soup. We each had margaritas - couldn't taste any tequila so we ordered another round and 100% no buzz. My Disney and I can usually have one and feel the alcohol, but absolutely nothing! The server was difficult to catch her attention when there was no spoon when the soup was served and again when it was discovered the soup wasn't hot, When she brought it back there was a French fry in the soup, and this time when she returned the spoon was at the bottom of the bowl. After paying the bill one of us noticed the 10% off wasn't on the check, but the server COMPLETELY ignored us now that she thought she was done with us. One of us went to the front desk for help and we were told that we needed to address that with the server. When we finally flagged her down, she said she'd have to have a manager take care of it. Eventually she returned with the original receipt and a new one, stating it had been taken care of. We made the mistake of believing her but as we left the restaurant I looked at the receipts and they were identical so I went back inside. She ASSURED me it was taken care of. With no proof we left. The person who paid pulled up house credit card app and saw that the charge indeed was still $80. What a joke! I will say that the lamb was delicious but wow... will not return and WILL spread the word! read more

Every time I go to Cattlemens in Dixon, I leave satisfied! First came a few years ago for my birthday & I haven't been able to get prime rib at any other restaurant since. Lovely, intimate mood lighting for casual nights out or for the whole family! Fast, friendly, and personable service no matter what section of the restaurant you're seated in. If you have issues or are running late for your reservation, most times the staff can help you change it over the phone with no problem! Cattlemen's is a decent option for a family style dinner with shared salad and beans. We've had some 2 star experiences, and many 5 star experiences. Not sure if the variation is from the chef for the day, but more good experiences than bad. Wait staff has always been friendly and even apologetic on the bad visits. Ambiance - western and family friendly. Overall we keep coming back due to the positive experiences we have had. Recommend with slight reservation as have not had fully consistent dining experiences. read more

We visited Cattlemens on Wednesday for my birthday dinner! We arrived a little after 4pm (AKA before the rush) and only waited about 10 minutes for a table. My husband and I did the Steak Dinner for Two which is such a good deal! 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 dessert for $80 - plus all the sides! We had salad, bread, beans and we both chose baked potatoes. I got the 6 oz Filet Mignon and he got the T-Bone Steak. Both of our steaks were seasoned and cooked to perfection! The Filet Mignon melted in my mouth! My daughter order the Kids Ribs with Apple Sauce, but unfortunately the ribs were very tough - she could not get the meat off of the bones. I normally don't send food back, but since it was her entrée - our server suggested we do a small steak for her instead which my daughter loved. For dessert, we ordered the Fried Apple Pie with Ice Cream. The whole meal besides the ribs was very good! We walked away very full and happy! I hate to have to be writing this review. Cattleman's has been the touchstone of a 'treat meal' forever for me. This meal should have been better - doubly so due to the price. Large salad came for two persons. Very sparse - lettuce, cucumbers (wife removed those from hers), croutons and tomatoes (we removed both), onions (too many) and dressing. No beans, beets, nothing (might have had one other item, but it was as plain as shown in one of the previous reviews). Surprisingly plain. Wife had a Chicken dish (it was good) with a side of broccoli (dead cold). I had the Prime Rib cooked medium- always a slam dunk here. I started cutting on it and it wouldn't cut. I thought that I had a dull serrated steak knife, but I had to saw each piece of my Prime Rib. I then chewed and chewed each piece. What the heck? Didn't complain, but .......(sobbing)....I won't be back. Other recent reviews has shown that Cattleman's is slipping and for the money we spent, I'm going to be trying other places. read more

Tried the happy hour recently with the fam. We got there late afternoon before the dinner rush so we were able to grab a table. Happy hour menu is only available in the saloon. Wasn't too noisy for us and the kids. I had a whiskey sour and raspberry lemon drop cocktail. $6 each!!! By husband had a few beers. He had the prime rib French dip piled high with steak. I had the lamb lollipops - perfectly cooked. Loved the balsamic drizzle. They brought out a complementary baked beans which was very nice. The kids had a hamburger and a steak - great portions. You would have thought they were adult servings. We indulged in dessert - years ago (~10?!) I had the apple turnover and it's stuck with me since. It was as good as I remember. The high crust to apple ratio is really nice. A la mode is the best. Kids had a brownie sundae and cookie. Those went down fast. From the moment we sat down, she was incredibly attentive, communicative, and kind. She checked in at all the right times, made sure everything was perfect, and went above and beyond to make us feel taken care of. Tara has such a warm and friendly personality, and you can tell she truly cares about her guests' experience. Everything ran smoothly because of her, and she made our visit feel special and effortless. We have talked about going to Cattlemen's for years!! We were inspired to dine in the restaurant from one of our favorite sitcom's - "Fresh off the Boat." We finally went on a Sunday. We were one of the first customers to come in, they opened at 2pm that day. We got unlimited salad (house made ranch is IT), hot fresh sourdough bread with butter, and beans for the table. We ordered kids meal's for our littles - my son said it was the BEST steak of his life, he practically liked his plate clean. My husband loved his meat falling off the bones pork ribs. He also got a side of mashed potatoes which were decent, but really loved his sides of caramelized onions and grilled mushrooms. I ordered the unlimited salad as I am a (mostly) vegetarian, and was told by our server that the Rustler Spud and the table beans were vegetarian! I ordered a margarita on the rocks, it was so strong (LOVE a strong drink!) Our server was so attentive, I wish I got his name to get a shout out - he really took care of us and made a connection with everyone at the table. The ambiance is fun, it feels like you are in your grandpa's cabin in the Appalachian mountains. It is sort of wild west theme, but in a woodsy way. The restaurant had vaulted ceilings and was a bit chilly when we stepped in. It warmed up a little, but this may be a great spot to dine in (and chill with a card game - but don't forget to tip well!!) in the summer months. read more

Great service, prices, and food. My only problems were my steak and the lack of birthday acknowledgment. I ordered steak and scampi. The steak was tough like shoe leather. A manager cam by to check on how we were doing, and I shared my complaint about the steak. She immediately sent it back to the kitchen. Within 5 minutes a new steak was delivered. A million times better! That was great! Secondly, I told our server it was my partners birthday. All the restaurants I've been to have brought out some type of something with a candle in it. I'm not sure if it's due to understaffing the saloon or servers themselves need additional training. Today we waited 15 minutes at our table still wasn't offered a water. Came back here for dinner after the man was fiending for some steak and potatoes. We checked out the happy hour menu (until 10PM Monday - Thursday) and nothing really appealed to him, so regular dinner it was. We were not disappointed! BRICK and MORTAR Can't miss it as it's right off the freeway. Plenty of parking to choose from, with an entrance at the Saloon and the main entrance on the east side. All entrances are accessible with a wheelchair. SERVICE Signed in at the front for a 35 minute wait to be seated. They'll ask you for your name and a good phonenumber they can text you on when the table is ready for your party. It did not take 35 minutes to be seated. I'd say within 10-15 minutes as I couldn't remember how many songs played while we were waiting. A few at most. We were seated by the hostess and then greeted with our waiter, Zack. He was attentive and personable. FOOD and DRANK Food was exceptional. We both got sirloin, medium with a bake potato. I ordered the smaller version and it was still very much a big portion for myself. Everything came in piping hot and ready to be devoured. I ordered the Cooler and man that was dangerously good. For dessert, which is what original made me want to cosign BF was the fried apple pie. Yoooooooooo ..... hella good! Will come back just for this stop playing!!! Will order that one again for sure. I'll be honest customer service was top notch. Ambience was very country west. Wife and I got the dinner for 2. The salad was delicious with very fresh vegetables and what tasted like homemade ranch (amazing). We got the artichoke dip with seasoned chips delicious as well. Fresh bread was warm and fluffy. Now why I gave them 3 stars...I got the "9oz" prime rib, ya right. It was the smallest prime rib I ever saw I finished it in 5 bites more like 6oz raw, 4 1/2 oz cooked. That was a joke portion made for kids. Secondly the wife ordered the 14oz sirloin Medium. It came out well done. I think if your a steak house you need to have this down to a science. Now people make mistakes however, it took so long for our food to come out and the times that by 2 because we had to wait for our re-order. We were extremely tired and full by the time my wife's steak came out. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Nice and charred. i came with a party of 15ish to celebrate a birthday. our server was amazing! i think her name was angelina, she was super helpful & sweet. i ordered the tumbleweed onions as an appetizer & it seemed like there was more batter than onion. i don't eat meat & it is obviously a steakhouse so my boyfriend & i ordered the salmon dish & mushroom ravioli dish to share with one another. each dish costed $30 and the portions were incredibly small for the price. although, the mushroom was really good! i had a side of steam vegetables & they were pretty basic & tasteless. the ranch was super watery. boyfriend & i shared a brownie sundae, that was probably the best part of the meal. overall underwhelming experience. read more

Last night we went to Cattleman's as part of our monthly tradition. We had a party of 5. Our server was Zach. Zach was an amazing server and took very good care of us. Even though it was super busy, he still kept checking in to make sure we were OK or if there was anything else we needed. He has an upbeat personality and was always smiling. Sometimes when things get busy servers seem overwhelmed, but Zach held it all together and we are very grateful for everything he did for us. All of our meals were probably the best we've had in a very, very long time. Kudos to the cook as well on the prime rib, filet mignon, and lamb.
