Service was lacking. When asking if they could cook something a certain way the server said he can't do that because all the cooks are Mexican and he doesn't speak Spanish. Not professional or any excuse to not take a guest request. Food was way over salted. I use a lot of salt on my steaks but this was a whole other level of salt. Came here on Father's Day dinner since wife was craving for steak. I really try to avoid eating out on holiday events but we were in Roseville. Arrived at 630 pm and the dining seating was a 1.5 hr wait. The host in the front said we can go to the bar area dining where it's first come, first serve. My wife checked and saw some unclean tables that we decided to take one. We waited for a bus person to clean but no one was around. My wife approached 2 different cattlemen employees about the tables and though she was acknowledged- no one came. Service - 2 stars. At a certain point of waiting, my wife decided to bus the table and move all the used plates to another table that was dirty. I can definitely understand that because of it being the holiday, things can be hectic and slower. But yah, service and getting a waitress to get someone to clear the tables was a chore. A good 10 Mins at least of just waiting for a table to be cleaned so we can sit. Mind you, no menu either. So for food. Got the Father's Day ribeye special- I asked medium well and it had more pink that I wanted. For that 3 stars. The honey chipotle corn was pretty good. 4 stars Wife got NY steak and we also got calamari. Been over 20 years since been to Cattlemen's since they took the one in Modesto at that time. Steak wasn't that bad and their steak sauce was sweet and better than having A-1. When we got out at 8:20 pm, there were tons of groups waiting to be seated. Our waitress was nice , so no complaint though she never came over to ask if I wanted a soda refill. 4 stars. I was going to give 4 stars but between 3 and 4, my experience was more leaning to a 3. This was my first time dining at this steakhouse, and I certainly did not expect a single 12-ounce prime rib dinner to turn into an absolute six-course eating challenge. Right from the moment I walked through the door, the first thing I noticed was how clean and well-maintained the entire establishment was. The staff was attentive, welcoming, and paced the meal perfectly, making sure we were taken care of without ever feeling rushed. The culinary experience started on a high note with the complimentary bread service. The bread was fresh, warm, and very tasty, especially when paired with the delicious butter provided. Next up was the fried calamari appetizer, which turned out to be another highlight of the night. It arrived at the table well-seasoned and perfectly crispy, avoiding the rubbery texture that ruins so many seafood dishes. They also served a salad that honestly looked quite good and fresh. However, I didn't pay it too much attention, let's be honest, nobody comes to a high-end steakhouse to eat rabbit food, so it went mostly untouched. For the main course, the sides and the presentation were mostly impressive. The baked beans were a standout companion to the meal, cooked until they were soft and packed with flavor. Then came the main event: the prime rib. In terms of preparation, the kitchen nearly nailed it. It was incredibly juicy, tender, and beautifully seasoned, arriving at a near-perfect medium-rare. Unfortunately, the execution was marred by a major butchery oversight. One entire end of the cut was completely un-trimmed, consisting of pure fat and silver skin. Because of this lack of preparation, only about 9 ounces of the 12-ounce portion was actually edible. Bottom line: The flavor profiles here are undeniable. Everything we tasted was very good, but the failure to properly trim a premium cut of meat was a disappointing mistake for a steakhouse. Always a comfortable rustic feel inside. I've been eating at Cattlemen's for over 45 years and I'm never disappointed. Unfortunately I heard the one in Petaluma where I grew closed. So I was in Roseville so I had to rekindle good memories. We were sat down quickly and the waitress took our order the same. I ordered my usual "the Cowboy steak" medium rare. It came with "the Fixings" and all-you-can-eat salad, hot sourdough bread, ranch-style beans, and I picked the baked potato with everything. The salad was simple but cold and fresh with my choice of ranch dressing. The bread was plenty and hot. The beans were flavorful. And the steak was seasoned perfectly and exactly medium rare. Am disappointed seeing the rating for Cattlemen's Roseville. We have eaten at the Livermore, Dixon, Rancho Cordova and many times at the Roseville location where we live. We always get great service. The restaurant can get very busy, so a reservation is always recommended. We know how to maneuver our way in and out during peak times. Lately we have been having the happy hour which starts at 4pm. We try to make it right at the start to get the best seating. The staff there are super helpful--even the bartender makes their way over to your table to get things started for you. They really watch over each other's back to make sure you have a great experience. The food always comes out without delays and we never have to ask to have the steak redone. Made to perfection. Each and every time we were served promptly with tasty fresh dinners without even one complaint ever. We have eaten at this store twice in the last month and cant wait to go back. We have been to Cattleman's three times in the last few months. The last visit was probably the last visit. We arrived at 7:20p for a 7:30p reservation. We were seated at 7:39p despite the restaurant being only about a quarter full. As we waited to be seated, I asked the hostess (which there were three hostesses standing at the podium engaged in small talk amongst themselves,....) - As to why we were waiting to be seated when the restaurant looked empty. The response was that because they were slow, several wait staff were sent home. Okay. AND if you are slow,...why send home wait staff and not the hostesses? The wait staff looked stressed. AND with the restaurant being empty WHY would we be seated in that small confined area directly behind the hostess area rather out in the dinner room? That area is the worse possible configuration. Four tables (2 tables for four and 2 tables for two) with a box. It was like eating in an echo chamber. Something is going on with this restaurant,.....but until they figure it out, we will not be back. read more

Birthday dinner gone wrong. We came for my boyfriend's and our daughter's birthday. First part of our interaction was great. I've been coming here my whole life and it has always been one of my favorite restaurants. We got seated, immediately greeted, waiter brought our drinks quick, then the salad and bread. He took our order. Then it started to go down hill, we waited 40 minutes for anyone to show back up at our table. Meaning we sat with empty cups for 40 minutes. No refill on the bread, no one asking if we are doing ok or if we needed anything else. We moved our dishes and empty cups to the edge of the table hoping someone would notice. The waiter was talking with other servers and laughing and staring out from the kitchen area the whole time. Which I get, 3 hours before close I'm sure he was tired and had a busy shift. Then, our food comes 5/6 of our plates were WILDLY uncooked. My boyfriend ordered a lobster tail with steak. The lobster was served half cooked. What lobster meat should have been white was CLEAR. His steak was ordered at medium came rare. Bloody and mooing. My steak I ordered medium well. (Slight pink) came RARE again bloody, mooing leaving a plate full of blood. Same with 2 of my kids, kids meals. One of my kids powered through it. My toddler didn't eat a single bite, but I had already cut up her meat in bite size portions and she was already being inpatient. I figured when I got my food back I would share mine with her. The 5th plate was a burger, ordered well done (no pink) that thing was also dang near raw and leaking blood and soggy. I can understand one plate needing to be sent back to be recooked. It's a restaurant stuff happens. But 5/6? When the waiter came back over to take the plate I asked for bread. I mean I was hungry. Took 30 more minutes for them to bring my plate back, and bread. Everyone was done eating and ready to go and we still hadn't got my food. Then the manager came to bring my plate back I told him my frustrations, he just stood at the table which frustrated me more. Offered me free desert, then a card for 50$ off Which I didn't want either, I wanted to eat and get out of there. I was pissed and he is standing there staring while I'm trying to speed eat so my family can leave. So yea, we left before they sung happy birthday as the whole situation was a dumpster fire. Disappointing. We had been talking about the nostalgia of Cattlemen's for a few weeks, and were craving a steak and potato, after a crazy workweek. We made reservations at 7pm and were seated at a booth within minutes. Our server came right away to take our drink order, returned with drinks, and took our appetizer order. We like to course things out, our app came out, and we ordered our entrees. I ordered the ribeye and sweet potato, as per usual, and my date went with the sirloin, beans, and loaded baked potato - we both ordered our steaks medium. Salad, and bread came out first and were great. This is where things began to go downhill, out entrees arrived, and my date's sirloin was beyond well done. It was nearly burnt. My ribeye was ok, a tiny bit beyond medium, but it was fine compared to the sirloin. Lesson learned, if we ever return, we are going to ask for medium rare to get medium. We typically don't have that problem but were quickly reminded that we typically go to bona fide steak houses, where medium is medium. When our server came to check on us, we showed her the super well done sirloin and joked that we did not remember ordering jerky. She had a great sense of humor, laughed, apologized, and quickly took it back to the kitchen for a replacement. It's unfortunate that during that time I was enjoying my meal, my date's was getting remade. This is where our experience got worse, my date was visibly distracted and kept looking into the dining area behind me. I was seated facing him, so I asked him what the matter was, and he said that it appeared that were dining in the middle of an audit. I was surprised that Cattlemen's would conduct an audit in the middle of rush hour, on a Friday evening, at 7:30pm. My date encouraged me to turn around and take a look, there was a Cattlemen's auditor with a bright flashlight inspecting tables, settings, condiments, table toppers etc. I was shocked as I hadn't experienced this prior at any establishment. We didn't complain as our server was great, and we were trying our best to enjoy or meal after a stressful work week. We decided to lighten the mood with a slice of cheesecake, which was good. While having desert, we overheard the auditor telling our server that a table topper was "sticky." It could have been touched by a child with sticky hands just prior. Do they not have bussers to wipe things down? I don't understand why she was being scrutinized right in the middle of dinner service. If they want a true representation of a specific dining area, why don't they audit in the beginning of a shift or when the server is not slammed with every table, including large parties, unruly children, and having to manage overcooked steaks being sent back. Our server was great, and we took very good care of her. After we closed out, we shared with her that as two individuals with experience in the service industry we empathized with her having to go through an audit during the dinner rush. She was very graceful, and amidst it all, stayed to chat with us for a couple minutes. It will be a while before we return, maybe we'll try the Rancho Cordova location next time instead. read more

Cattlemens has been my go to steak house for a few years now for the quality of the food and customer service. I've celebrated bdays, anniversaries and general date nights. Recently I stopped in for dinner, but this time unlike others, I didn't enjoy my experience. They seemed to be short staff on this visit. I noticed longer then usual wait times. We waited forty minutes to be seated, fifteen minutes to place our order, thirty minutes to receive the entree and an additional fifteen minutes to flag down our waitress to report an issue with the meal, which then took another ten minutes to fix. I wound up getting the Alaskan Crab and Steak for the first time. The crab was fresh and they give you a nice portion. Unfortunately that's about all I enjoyed from my meal. The steak came out medium rare opposed to medium well done, and I had to send it back to be cooked more. The potatoes were sweet; not sure if they changed the recipe, both my date and I looked at each other at the same time and commented how strange they tasted as we don't remember them being so sweet. The only thing I can think of is maybe they ran out of one potato and subbed it for another. In a mix of growing tired while waiting for my steak to be fixed and turned off by my side of potatoes, I wound up just asking for the rest of my meal to go. After paying my tab and taking the rest of my meal to go, I left feeling a little disappointed and questioning if I'll be back again soon. read more

I was told by a friend the Cattlemen's restaurant in Roseville Rocklin is the best steakhouse around. I agree it's definitely one of the best. Wonderful New York strip steak . Tasty sides. Healthy portions. Good service. Even though it was busy, it wasn't ridiculously loud. Fresh and delicious sourdough mini rounds I don't think you can go wrong serving Harris Ranch beef. I had read the restaurant had some health department issues that nearly got it closed in May . But they did a great job of repairing and rectifying all the issues and it shows. The food is always fresh and never disappoints. From soups, to salads, to steaks, they do it all. The portions are so big, I usually take food home. I wasn't very hungry on my last trip, so I got the soup and salad. It was only $12.92 with tax and they still gave me a ton of food. It's dark inside and there's lots of wood. The seating is comfortable and there isn't a lot of background noise, so you can carry on a normal conversation. The staff is always professional give great service. Sometimes the service is great, good or, like tonight, awful. I don't eat beef, but my wife likes a steak once in a while. So I generally have a chicken dish. Tonight though I had pork ribs, which were WAY overcooked. But because our server didn't once check on us to see how everything was, and the only time we saw him next was when he brought the bill. He looked at my uneaten ribs and didn't even ask if there was anything wrong. He just said "Oh, I guess it's box time". I ended up eating one rib and bringing the rest home to try and scavenge something from it. We'll be back, of course, but not for a long time. Sorry to say but the only good thing on my meal was the flavor of my steak (which was the 8oz sirloin) I asked for medium but it was medium rare and by the center of the steak more on the rare side than medium. I asked for the vegetable side which was barely blanched...they were raw and barely room temp. As an appetizer we had the tumbleweed onions and it was not cooked long enough. It was not crispy at all and was very oily. I know it is cooked in oil but if the oil is not hot enough it makes the whole onion kind of gummy.
