The au jus was totally plain. Usually Au Jus tends to be on the salty side. This Au Jus tasted like it came from Campbell's beef broth low or no salt. The side broccoli salad was fine. Just like I make. Husband got the Steak House Burger. He asked for no pink, but got pink. The crispy onion was tasteless and he pushed it off. He also got a side of onion rings. Not great. Buckhorn was a pretty decent spot. I came here for lunch one afternoon because I needed to pick things up at Walmart. Once I got there my food was ready, (online) and I was able to sit inside. The customer service at this location is hella good. Legit. They non stopped checked up on me and made sure I was good. I just got the sandwich and soup special with a drink. Came with the mister for lunch on a Friday & there was a good amount of people. We waited for a moment to be helped by a friendly staffer who apologized for the wait. We ordered at the counter, got a number, & then picked a spot to sit. It is a big, airy, bright space from all the windows & natural light. It was clean & well-maintained. Seating options are plentiful at the bar, high tops, tables, booths, & outdoor shaded patio. The music was loud alternative. Three TVs had sports on. Fountain drinks & sauces are self serve. This place was packed-- barely any seating inside so my boyfriend decided to sit outside and the staff was nice enough to turn the heaters on for us. This was my first meal at a Buckhorn's and it was delicious! I had the tri-tip sandwich with fries. The bun is fresh and buttery, the caramelized onions were perfect, and the fries were perfectly crispy. But my favourite was the horseradish sauce!!! It was the PERFECT complement to the tender beef. I've reviewed here before, but I thought I'd give a quick update... I took my mom out for a quick light dinner and we decided to come here. It's rapidly becoming one of my "go to" spots. It's conveniently located for me, has plenty of options of food I like. The more I come here, the more I notice little things that tell me the place is well managed. It's well staffed... the staff are friendly, helpful and respectful. They seem happy... which, honestly, stands out against some other restaurants these days. They all seem to be pulling their weight and looking out for things they can do to improve the overall situation... the customer experience... keeping the place clean, etc. Something as simple as picking up a napkin off the floor - I can think of numerous other places I've been where I've watched staff walk past something on the floor numerous times. Came in for lunch. It was our first time there but had to try it since it smelled so good. We signed up for the rewards. It is free and on our next visit we get a free order of burnt ends. We ordered and ate there. It was on the weekend and lunch rush so it was a bit busy and a little hard to get a table since you seat yourself. There is nothing I can recommend to make this sandwich better. This week we ordered the Piggy Tuesday Deal for 2. The deal is pulled pork, a massive sausage and 1/2 a rack of baby back ribs. I ordered they crispy chicken sandwich. It was a light breading. I was happy since I for got to ask for the grilled chicken option instead. They offered sauces on the sandwich I can not eat. I think I asked for regular ranch or mayo. I can't remember. They didn't put much on to even notice. The cripsy part of the breading had a lot of pepper. As a vegetarian, Buckhorn is not high on my list of dining options. But, my boyfriend is a big fan and loves their salmon platter so once in a while, I'll agree to dine at one of their locations. They do have salads and make a surprisingly good black bean veggie burger. This location in Rocklin is in a large plaza with ample parking and some shops to wander to before or after eating. The best buckhorn bbq that I have ever been to. Space is clean and comfortable, people are nice, and food is great! They nail the sauces. We ordered the crispy chicken salad, which is maybe one of my favorite salads of all time. The ratio of chicken to salad is just right, and the dressing is my favorite salad dressing. It's a little creamy and lemony. I liked the avocados and tomatoes too. Our other order was the two item bbq: ribs and tri tip, with mac and cheese, corn bread, and onion rings on the side. This is similar to my review of Buckhorn in Vacaville. I have loved BH for decades and glad to see they have grown to many locations including this one. Never knew it was here until this past weekend. It is located near Green Acres in the same shopping center. There are many choices on their menu from sandwiches to salads that would have something for everyone. I always get the tri-tip buck. Meat is tender and flavorful without any needed sauces although they have many! I really like the chipotle ranch that the other location did not. The onion straws are amazing! Prices are a little high ($20 pp for a meal combo) but you always get quality food. Heck, I have spent that at fast food without the satisfaction so its worth it. All the employees were friendly. The inside is clean, although a bit chilly. Glad I brought a jacket. Only eh thing was that they advertised a blackberry lemonade mocktail that was right up hubs alley and was shocked to find that it was $7.50! It was so not worth it. I was thinking $5 and even then, not worth it. The berries were frozen so it was more of a decoration because it was not edible and it came in a small glass. Placer County is blessed with it's fair share of quality restaurants specializing in fine barbecue, and it's difficult to say which one is the best... I certainly can't! On the other hand, there are certain standout qualities that add to the experience, such as great food - duh! - friendly service, reasonable prices and a great dining atmosphere. Check all of the boxes for amazing barbecue and "comfort food" at Buckhorn BBQ and Grill, located in Rocklin, CA. As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted at the order counter and a friendly staff member will take your order. As I took the photo, the friendly meet/greet person had stepped away. I arrived at the 11:00 morning time to an empty dining room, but things would change in the next 30 minutes or so. Buckhorn BBQ and Grill operates what I refer to as the "taqueria format," in that you make your selection from the menu, posted above the counter, pay for your order, and you'll receive in return a number. You sit at the bar, or any open table of your choice, and when your order is ready, it will be brought to you by a friendly staff member. The dining room features a high table for large parties, along with a bar that serves draft beef on tap, along with wine. There are several video monitors tuned to local news, which kind gave a "sports bar" feel to the dining room, but it's a restaurant, not a bar. A neon sign proudly displays "real California barbecue." The condiment bar offers four choices of fresh, in-house made barbecue sauce, plus horseradish and ketchup. It's self-service, so you get to pick the sauce of your choice. There are little plastic cups on the side for you to pump your sauce into, take it back to your table and enjoy. From the "Burgers" section of the menu, I started at the top, and went with a "Buckhorn Burger," with a small side of fries. Note that I'd taken a couple of pleasure trips to the sauce station, and I enjoyed four varieties of barbecue sauce for dipping, and a cup of horseradish sauce for an extra attraction. As I placed my order, Jenna, who was present at the order counter asked me how I wanted my meat cooked, which was certainly a great way to begin the order. I went with "medium," which is my de facto standard, but the kitchen staff will grill your meat just the way you want it. Most restaurants don't ask up front how you prefer your meat to be cooked, so this was a great start to a great burger. The "Buckhorn Burger" starts with a 6-oz beef patty, cooked the way you want it. The beef was simply juicy, tender - never frozen - and cooked perfectly to order. The meat was placed on top of a large, toasted bun, which was drizzled with what the menu refers to as "sweet sauce" which was identical to "Thousand Island Dressing," as per common diner cuisine. I asked for "everything" on my burger, which included lettuce, tomato, onion and sliced dill pickles. There was no mustard or mayonnaise, simply the "sweet sauce," but mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup and four varieties of barbecue sauce were available at the condiment bar should you care to enhance your burger. I didn't feel the need, as the burger was standalone delicious as ordered. One bite into the "Buckhorn Burger" was enough to convince me that I was enjoying a juicy, "old school" burger, reminiscent of the fine restaurant burgers I enjoyed as a kid, during the 1960's. The large meat patty was juicy, tender and cooked to perfection and the bun-to-meat ratio was perfect, which is crucial to a quality burger. The lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle slices were fresh, and added a but of "crunch" to the burger. The "sweet sauce" was right out of the 1960's and added the right touch to this delicious burger. No ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise was needed for enhancement, as this burger was simply standalone delicious. The chef who prepared this amazing burger has talent, and I extended my compliments to the kitchen staff. When you're looking to savor a delicious, "old school" diner style burger, think of Buckhorn BBQ and Grill... Oh yes... the fries, or as the menu refers to them as "French Fries..." were simply delicious. Any way you look at it, Buckhorn BBQ and Grill provides a superior dining experience for "foodies," and anyone who appreciates fine barbecue in Rocklin, CA.
