Our second dinner here. Our first was more than 10 years ago for a steak and rib meal. This time was to try out Cattlemen's Happy Hour. We sat ourselves on a table for two in the saloon area. Our server got our waters and took our orders from the HH menu a short while after. For drinks, I got the Diily red wine deal and Pendleton Sour. My wife opted for the Horseshoe Margarita and Raspberry Lemon Drop. These libations would score a 5 of 5 for us. For bites, we got the Beef Kabob, Garlic Fries, Prime Rib Tacos, Baby Back Pork Ribs and Lamb Lollipops. A bit underwhelmed with the dry meats except for the succulent skewered sirloin on the kabobs. Cattlemen's made a great excuse for us to spend time during happy hour saloon specials from 4-6 p.m. & 9-10 p.m. It's good that business is doing great judging by the foot traffic coming in during a week night. read more

I love Cattlemens for its reasonable prices and generous portions. Happy Hour happens 2x a day EVERY DAY in the Saloon: 4-6 PM & 9-10 PM! I'm still working my way through the Happy Hour menu, but so far, I like the $10 LAMB LOLLIPOPS and $6 GARLIC FRIES. The tender lamb lollipops aren't that big. I think I could eat 2 orders of it, but 1 order is likely the healthy meal portion size of meat. I didn't care for the $6 Loaded Potato Skins, which were too overbaked by the end of the day. I was lukewarm about the $8 Prime Rib Tacos. I am not big on tortillas and like to have access to lots of salsa or aioli, which is not the case here. I ended up using the steak sauce on the table. The thin slices of prime rib are good. I want to try the $8 Baby Back Pork Ribs and $10 Beef Kabob with its 3 different cubes of steak one day. The Saloon Sandwiches menu looks enticing as well: $17.99 Prime Rib French Dip with Au Jus OR $15.99 1/2 Pound Smoky BBQ Bacon Burger or Classic Cheeseburger. Sandwiches come with French fries. I love the $27.99 PETE'S SPECIAL classic 10 oz SIRLOIN STEAK dinner! You get warm sourdough bread with butter, ALL YOU CAN EAT SALAD (my favorite!), baked beans, and your choice of side: Rice, Baked Potato, Mashed Potatoes, or Veggie Medley as of 3/27/24. Main course food was good, but overpriced for what you get. The appetizer whose name I forgot was just o.k. Service was o.k. Waters got topped off but the only soft drink at our table didn't. The sitting area has open dining with tables in the middle and booths along the walls. We had reservations for a Friday night and it was pretty well packed so the noise level was loud. We've been driving by Cattleman's for years and it was on our bucket list to try. I'm glad we got to taste it for ourselves but unfortunately, service as a whole missed the mark and wasn't great enough to feel the need to return. read more

Went to Cattlemens tonight for our anniversary. We usually go to Ruth's Chris but decided to go back to Cattlemens. What a treat! The staff was SO kind...I mean the entire staff! Our server was Angelica and she was amazing!!! We had filets with lobster and the artichoke cheese dip. Then we had the apple pie dessert. IT WAS SPECTACULAR!! Seriously delicious. We had reservations for a Valentines dinner. Unfortunately, we did not receive our meal for over an hour, and after four other couples who arrived after us. The server did not check to see if we needed another drink or check to see if the steaks were on the way. The salad and bread and drinks were fine, but the steak was not cooked to our request and not edible. I spoke with a manager and requested that the meal be comped or else we were just going to leave. They charged us for the drinks, but comped the meal and we left. Was surprised that they were not prepared for the busy holiday with staffing and support. Will not be returning. read more

Love this place. It is a great deal compared to other steak houses. We have always enjoyed the service, which has been attentive each time. Once we did wait to be initially greeted, but afterwards he was fine. We've tried several things on the menu, but I always go back to the Prime Rib. It is simply done to perfection, the cut is always tender and juicy, its a very large portion and it doesn't break my wallet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have one and only one complaint; at least three times during every meal, we were interrupted by loud clapping and shouting that started abruptly and went on for minutes. It was very annoying and disruptive; one minute we were enjoying an intimate steak dinner, and the next we were at Chuckie Cheese or Chevy's where they all sing and clap and shout for you[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Be a classy place, you deserve to call yourself that. Serve a free dessert with a little candle and quietly carry it to the person and have the wait staff wish them a happy whatever individually. My husband's work held a belated Christmas party here last night, and the experience highlighted a serious management and staffing issue. We had a group of approximately 30 people and were assigned one waitress. That decision alone guaranteed poor service, no matter how hard she worked. To be clear, our waitress was friendly, professional, and clearly doing her best in an impossible situation. This was not a server issue--it was a management decision. It took about 30 minutes to receive drinks and refills and nearly two hours for food to arrive. Water, bread, salads, and dressings were not on the table when we were seated, which only added to the delays. Guests attempted to order cocktails at the bar to speed things along and were told everything had to go through the waitress, further bottlenecking service. Assigning one server to a party of this size is unrealistic and unfair to both the staff and the guests. With appropriate staffing (one server per 6-8 guests), service would have run smoother and the restaurant likely would have increased sales. The food was good, but the excessive wait and lack of organization overshadowed the entire evening. I would not recommend Cattleman's for large parties unless management significantly improves staffing and planning. read more

I went to Cattlemen's with my husband, daughter and grandson. (first for me in a very long time) We arrived at 5:00, busy but not overwhelming so and were seated promptly which was nice. Waters arrived, minus my grandson's which we had to ask for again but did receive an apology. Our server, I believe her name was Angelica, brought our warm bread and salad and gave us additional time to look over the menu. First impression was she didn't want to be there but grace was given because we all have bad days so I felt that must be why her personality was lacking. My husband ordered a steak, my daughter and I ordered Dakota chicken and my grandson had a kids menu burger. Our server took my salad plate without asking if I was finished. I was, however asking would've been more considerate. My husband said the steak was great (thank goodness), the chicken was okay but a little over done. The plate it came on was hot but the chicken was not and the cheese was so melted onto the plate and i had to scrape it off to eat it. I think it sat out too long waiting for it to be picked up. The baked potato was way overcooked, so much so I couldn't eat the skin it was so tough. For $28 it was overpriced. (I could've sent it back however it would've taken too much time to get a new order) My grandson's burger looked really good and I was happy about that except carrots were ordered and it came out with fries. Didn't make a stink about it because he likes fries but the attention to detail is important. Our total bill came to over $111 and I left a decent tip in cash. In retrospect I over tipped but again, grace was given. For me, the food didn't justify the price and the service definitely would not make me return. I think the steaks, although I don't eat many, are the key on their menu and the chicken is not focused upon. 3 stars for service and quality (minus the steak) 4 stars for the steak. My husband most likely would like to return but it wouldn't be my first choice. If I did return I would one, not order chicken but probably a burger or small steak and I would definitely send back whatever wasn't prepared correctly. Based on other reviews and mine, I'd say Cattlemen's is hit or miss which for the price, is very disappointing. read more

Went to Cattlemen's in Roseville CA. We had not been there in a couple of years. So disappointed in the food. One of us had a $40 ribeye, thin and fatty. One had prime rib tacos....a couple of corn tortillas, a little cheese and some well done prime rib (I guess it was prime rib). Our last guest had teriyaki with pineapple chicken. Chicken was flat, little flavor, with a layer of fatty skin and a tiny piece of pineapple on top. Baked potatoes were cooked hours before and very small. Salad was good, bread was excellent, waiter was attentive. Will not go back to Cattlemen's anytime soon. read more

I so wish to assign five stars, but due to surviving by either rising prices or find ways to change portions and/or menu choices, even Cattlemens seems to be serving tougher meat texture especially with their sirloin. I always order rare or at the very most, rare medium to maximize tender texture and requiring one knife cut. The ones I and my guest ordered, on 10/23/25. 6ish pm, required several passes of the knife to cut one small chunk, and even then I had to chew a few times to break down the meat fibers. The small but ample kettle of beans was very bland. The generous serving of a salad medley was crisp and fresh. As for the baked potato, 99% of places serving baked potatoes usually do it right, so nothing remarkable to add. Neither my guest nor I were in the mood for ordinary, lackluster desserts even low budget cafes serve, so we chose to go elsewhere for desserts. Maybe the evening we patronized could have been one of those "off" cooking nights for kitchen staff because I have enjoyed better dining experiences at Cattlemens elsewhere before. The wait staff were very friendly and they helped each other out by tag teaming our care. There were 8 of us and it was SUPER busy the time we came. We had reservations but had to wait about 20 or 25 minutes for our table to be ready . Otherwise I think I would've given 5 stars . Our server was taking very good care of us even tho he was pulled in a lot of different directions . They even took time to come and sing happy birthday to me . The steaks were all very good and everyone enjoyed their meals . Let me start by saying I've been a customer there for the last 29 years. Over the years there have been a few one off experiences that were less than stellar but my last 2 visits were terrible. The first of them - the rib eye was like eating leather. Manager said not the first report he'd had that night of tough rib eye. It happens.... But the last time I was in - that was a doozy. Started with a very cold greeting from the host. When I asked how long the weight was, I was told "you're looking at least an hour." I felt as if he was trying to discourage us from putting in our name. He reiterated several times that the wait time was going to be long. Ok, it's a Friday. I get it. But I watched several people go up and ask about a table he didn't say what he said to me to anyone else. Weird but ok. Then once I'd been there 45 minutes I noticed that if a man walked up and asked about their status on the list, he'd tell them "there are 2 parties ahead of you and then we'll get you seated" that guy pushed back about how long he'd been waiting and he was seated immediately. The host was giving in to pressure. I saw this similar scenario (where someone inquired about their status) play out at least 8 times and 3 of those times they were seated immediately (after being told how many parties were ahead of them). We were called 1:20 minutes later (automated system said 50 minute wait time). We had already left. I will say I'm not sure of the customer status - if they had reservations or were call ahead people but the way he greeted me was very different than he greeted others. It'll be a while before I go back. But I did find that Texas Roadhouse has a prime rib every bit as good as Cattlemens so I guess that's gonna be my prime rib spot until I forget this experience. read more

This has been my go to steakhouse for over 40 years. I've had these experiences the last 4 times. About 2 years ago they didn't have prime rib because morning chef didn't get it in the oven. Then I had rice as a side dish and the boil plastic bag was still on my plate. Then my favorite meal " Pete's Special " used to be a nice cut of sirloin. Last three times it was overcooked, tough and basically un edible. Then the meal was 40 minutes coming after salad and bread. When it did arrive it was cold. Like I said 40 years I've been eating here. I hope management will see this post and correct their kitchen management and overall management. read more

I have no idea why this Cattlemen's has only 3 stars. We moved to this area in 1990. Had to move away and we are now back. If one wants to eat here it is busy everyday. So make a reservation and don't believe the 3 stars. The salmon is great and is a 5 out of 5. I always get the filet. Yum! The prime rib however is a 2.5. Not tender. Baked potatoes a 5. Endless salad a 5. The desserts are all a 5+! What can I say....! The manager we have known since we moved back. Karan is pleasant and knowledgeable. My wife and I have been going to cattlemans for over 40 years. We have never had bad service or a bad meal. We recently went there for our anniversary and things changed. The service was not good at all and our meal came out cold. We waited over 40 minutes then I asked the waitress if they forgot us. This place is always packed as soon as they open! One time we walked in without a reservation and were told the wait would be two hours, so we left. After all these years, my husband finally got to try their steak. We drove all the way from San Francisco, and he was really looking forward to dinner that night. The waitress recommended the T-bone steak, so my husband ordered it medium rare -- but it was so fatty he had to cut off a huge portion that piled up on the small plate like a mountain. Ordered the beef ribs a couple weeks ago and paid extra for a baked sweet potato but didn't get the sweet potato. Today I ordered a half rack of beef ribs and a New York steak. When I cut into the baked potato to eat, it was rotten inside and they only gave me 1 order of beans that were supposed to come with each item ordered.
