This was my second visit to this location. Which was my first visit in general to a cava. The first time I tried their honey chicken in a bowl with mixed super greens and saffron. It ended up being way too spicy for me so I was not able to eat more than a couple bites. The employee said that the chicken wasn't super spicy, which is why I went with it. Today was my second visit. I went with the same kind of bowl with super greens and saffron, but I opted to get steak this time. I had a total of nine edible pieces of steak in my bowl. The rest was so chewy and had tendons through it that you could not bite through it. The super greens and the saffron were fresh and the other vegetables in the bowl were pretty OK. This is not a place that I intend to come back to though. I did get it to go so I did not sit in the restaurant. The service was subpar. No one seems like they're happy to be there. I often leave reviews, both good and bad when needed. After repeated poor experiences at the CAVA in Wicker Park, I feel compelled to speak up. This location desperately needs better management and oversight. Historically, visits here have been marked by disorganization. Staff often appear confused and uncoordinated, leaving both in store customers and delivery drivers frustrated. People standing around with no idea when orders will be ready. Orders are frequently incorrect or missing items, and the atmosphere feels chaotic at best. This time, while I appreciated that the order was ready on time for my delivery driver, the portion size was shockingly small, and to top it off...no pita. After a long, exhausting day, I was genuinely looking forward to a satisfying meal, only to receive a barely filled bowl with no pita and no silverware. It felt careless and dismissive of basic customer expectations. I just don't get it. Call me dramatic, call me extra, but imagine that one time that YOU had a long day, got your overpriced food delivered and your face sunk when you held the bag. It's all happened to us, right? I love CAVA as a brand and have had great experiences at other locations, but the Wicker Park store continues to disappoint. When dining in-person at Cava, even on a busy Saturday, we were met with a great location, good service, a fun environment, and delicious quality food! They took Mediterranean bowls to a whole new level. The service was fast and the staff was all very friendly! It is definitely a little overwhelming if you don't know what you want, but I do appreciate the signs that list your options along the serving. I got the Harissa Avocado bowl which came with hummus, crazy feta, and a hot harissa vinaigrette. It was so flavorful with good spice and fresh quality ingredients. My friend built her own bowl and she really enjoyed hers too! The bowls were filling and you get good bang for your buck, considering it's a little more on the expensive side for a salad/bowl place. The juices were high quality and very tasty, as well. I tried the blueberry lavender juice and was impressed! Came here twice during my trip, and both times were fantastic!! The quality control of Cava is excellent- every item is so fresh and deliciously made. They are a well oiled machine in terms of day to day operations from a customer perspective. The line moves quickly, my first bowl consisted of basmati rice, hot harissa chicken, harissa/traditional hummus/red pepper hummus, corn/pickles/cucumbers/pickled onions/greens, and harissa vinaigrette- the triple harissa knocked me out. Don't be like me and overexert your boundaries- the acidity of the lemonade I got did not help! Nevertheless, there was still a bevy of flavors that underlined the spiciness (oregano, cumin, and onion powder to name a few). I switched my order the next day to be half greens and half rice and regular chicken with a lemon herb dressing, but keeping the harissa dip was still too much. I love any type of bowls so when my friend's daughter raved about this place, I thought we needed to give it a try! I would describe it similar to a Chipotle with the exception that everything here has Mediterranean theme to it! If you have never been, I would highly recommend looking at the menu before you go. There were so many different options, I was a bit, overwhelmed, doing it on the spot. I decided to create my bowl. I chose a basmati rice, and I added a variety of vegetables and olives, the dill yogurt dressing, falafel, (you can also choose from a variety of different chickens, steak and lamb) a lot of feta and some soft crispy pita chips to go with the bowl. My daughter ordered the harissa bowl which she said was very good if not a little spicy hot. They have quite a variety of very good drinks like blueberry lavender, cucumber mint, pineapple apple mint, and more. I tried a few and they were all amazing. They also have pita wraps if you are looking for more of a sandwich. My biggest complaint is that this location does not have nearly enough seats. We got there and it was not too big of a line, but within 10 minutes, people lined up almost out the door and basically once you get your food, you kind of stand around subtly staring at people to see when the next table is going to get up. It is small enough that people are literally standing right behind you waiting for your table. The only other thing we had issue with is, again this being our first time, when we went down the line he picked the things we wanted, and I mentioned we got a small bag of the pita chips. After we paid the cashier, saw them and told us that it was not cool we did not tell him we had those chips! This was our first time and being busy we just kind of rushed through the line. He told us this could come out of his paycheck... We apologized and offered to pay the few dollars but he just waved us along. So just an FYI, if you ask for a pack of the pita chips, remind the cashier that you have them! Food was great though! We will definitely try another one in the future. Overall it was a positive experience. I like the idea of fresh, quick Mediterranean food. Ended up coming here after a long day of volunteering downtown. For food, my husband got a steak mezze salad. I ordered the Greek salad which comes with grilled chicken. The hype for this restaurant has not died down, and so the line was a little bit longer than expected, I believe that another month or so the line won't be bad at all. Overall, we probably waited about 15 minutes in line which is long considering a traditional chipotle type layout. I enjoyed my Greek salad, even though I did feel like for the cost it was a little limited in regards to product. It was definitely enough food for one meal, but I really didn't have any leftovers. As for my Greek salad, I did appreciate the flavor and the chicken and the fact that I could add salt brine pickles to my salad. Yum! Traditionally the salad comes with Grilled chicken, hummus, tzatziki, feta, cucumber, tomato, Kalamata olives, romaine, arugula, and vinaigrette. I added some spice and also subbed the arugula lettuce for spinach. I would say that this is a good concept, however, a little more thought needs to be put into instructions in the menu. I am obsessed with cava, so happy it finally came to Chicago. My food was great, the space is huge! They need to work out their system though. I ordered pick up, I see my pickup order when I get there but they don't want you grabbing it yourself, so I go to the register. He tells me I have to wait by the side of the register until someone can hand me the bag. 5 minutes pass, no one helps. The man working the register is right by the bags, why couldn't he just hand me my pickup order? Finally got my order after 10 minutes and I had to ask someone else. Would have just ordered in line at that point. They also forgot the pita, but at that point I was ready to go. I know it's new but this was crazy, I'll be back again because I love Cava. It's been some time since I stood in line for over an hour. The day was so beautiful and there was a fair right next to the restaurant. It gave me an opportunity to catch up with my friend that I don't see that often. As we moved closer to the front, it gave me a chance to see how well everyone was working together. As fast as something ran out, it was replenished. Everyone had their role and did their job. They also communicated well with each other. Nice clean space, every table filled inside as well as the patio. The food looked so tasty and the closer I moved, I became more anxious to place my order. I was getting hangry. Lol. Finally, my turn. After an hour in line, no need for hesitation, I know exactly what I want. I ordered the greens and grains bowl with a base of white rice and spinach. I paid extra to add lentils. I chose harissa chicken and lamb meatballs. I appreciate that you can split your protein when you request two. Red pepper hummus, crazy feta, tzatziki, black olives, pickled red onions, corn and a garlic drizzle. One side of pita chips, yes please. Found a table, claimed it, cleaned it and waited for my friend. We both enjoyed a very delicious meal. Was thinking of getting more for the next day's lunch. But that line though..... Guys, it totally lived up to the hype. I waited for around 40 minutes in line; the workers try to be efficient and despite the minor chaos, they were all very personable and attentive. This is the only Cava location in Chicago and everyone's clearly going cray over it so you gotta cut this place some slack. The food was a 10/10 I was so pleasantly surprised because I genuinely had no expectations. I've heard good things but never looked at their menu or knew much about it in general. I went on the second day of their opening and it was packed! Regardless, the staff remained incredibly friendly, patient, and whipped up delicious food! The vibe was lively, and despite the long line things moved smoothly. I inhaled my food so fast that I forgot to take a photo of it, lol. But I ordered a build your own bowl and it was delicious. The chicken was as juicy, tender and flavorful as I remember! They have so many options so I love to go with the bowl to sample everything (unlimited toppings). My top favorites have to be the saffron rice, spicy hummus, harissa, chicken and spicy cucumbers! And the pita chips-- GOODNESS!! I have no idea what they do to those things, but they're addicting. I would recommend waiting 10-15 min after your order time otherwise you'll wait for awhile. The staff are nice but lack attentive customer service so you'll constantly have to flag someone down. I got a harrisa avocado bowl and added the honey chicken but the portion of protein you get is so tiny. It also didn't taste like anything special so just opt for regular grilled chicken and save your $2. The flavor is good but for the price and serving, I think i'm more of a chipotle girl. read more
