I have been obsessed with Cava for a few years now and recommend everyone I know to try it and have it for lunch and dinner. Recently you guys changed your pita to ingredients I am allergic to. Gross overpriced fast food chipotle rip off. I really have tried to give this place a chance. It drew me in at the beginning with the same name as the famous Greek restaurant on Capitol Hill. The only thing it has in common with it however is the name. This place tries to be a chipotle with Mediterranean food but none of the ingredients are authentic and all of them are low quality. The lamb is not good, the pastes are not authentic and not tasty from the Harissa to tahini. The pita bread isnt the best and tastes like it was cheaply bought from Walmart. The only good meat here is the chicken which is still not the best. I have been here a few times and gotten all sorts of things on the menu from bowls to sandwiches and yet I still just can't like it. Am sorry but one star because it's just that bad. read more

I LOVE the falafel here... and I'm not even vegetarian. The salads are so fresh and full of bright and refreshing Mediterranean flavors. The salads are filling and you won't leave hungry. I even brought my dad here (he's a very picky vegan!) and he was quite pleased with his meal (that is a FEAT!!). I have ordered the lamb meatballs before a few times and loved them but today they were bright red/pink inside and gamey and I'd already eaten a whole one before I realized. What can I say about CAVA... Its AWESOME! I was thrilled when I discovered that one opened in this location just blocks from where I work. It has quickly become a mainstay in our "ordering food" rotation. There was even a weekend that I ended up with CAVA 2 nights in a row! I like just about everything at CAVA, but lately my favorite is the salad. I like that they let you do 1/2 and 1/2 on the proteins. I usually go for Falafel and Chicken. The crazy feta is amazing. I've been tempted to buy an entire container of it. (Rumor has it they sell it at Whole Foods) Their online ordering system is also great... especially when we are ordering as a group at work. The order is always ready and waiting for us when we go to pick it up and if you pay with a credit card online you spend about 2-3 minutes actually in the restaurant. I totally hit the jackpot. There's a location 5 minutes from work... and another location just 5 minutes from my apartment!! read more

Simply put, it's a Mediterranean Chipotle. Good healthy lunch option for those who live or work in the area. Cava is my go-to for a short walk and lunch on a nice day. That makes it at least a weekly trip for most of the year. The amount of the food is awesome. You get full stomach with quality ingredients for only around $10 depending what you add, plus a drink. Chipotle style set up but for another cuisine is genius. It makes Cava a fast and casual option (perfect for a low key lunch) with an atmosphere that it's trendy and inviting (keeps the customers rolling in). read more

I love Cava and am a very loyal customer! My coworkers are surprised if I come into work without it because of how often I eat it. Others who have already reviewed Cava are right - Cava is best described as Mediterranean Chipotle. You can dress up (or down) your bowl, pita, or salad to taste just as you wish. So if you try it once and aren't a fan of your first concoction, give it another go - but put different toppings, meat, or sauce in it. I'd be surprised if you tried each combo and didn't like the majority of them. Cava gives very generous proportions and is excellent as leftovers as well. Please don't hate me later if you give Cava a try and become as addicted to it as I am. :P read more

I've never been crazy about the build-your-own aspect of places like Cava or similar Chipotle imitators -- I'd rather be advised on what's good and in what combinations and then judge it for myself. But in the case of Cava Mezze, the ingredients are good enough that I don't worry much about the proportions. The falafel in particular was unlike any I've had elsewhere -- vastly less greasy and headache-inducing -- but I think it's the quality of the pita that really brings the sandwich together. I have been a loyal customer of Cava in Tenleytown for over a year. This semester, I have noticed a disturbing trend: smaller portions, same price. In addition to this, upon request for "more of" something, for instance crumbled feta or pita crisps, the workers seem disgruntled and stingy. In fact, this evening, a worker outright ignored my request for more yogurt dill sauce in addition to the miniscule amount she dabbed on my rice bowl. I had to ask her to remove the plastic top after several failed attempts, and with an angry look she did so. Bottom line: Stop ripping me off, and train your workers better. I don't care about profit margins, I care about being treated well and getting what I pay for. The way I've been treated by workers this past semester is the sort of thing that causes you to lose customers that would otherwise stick around for a very long time. CAVA IS AMAZING. The chipotle of Mediterranean food. You select a rice or salad base. I go with the salad, but the rice portion makes for a huge, filling meal. Like how chipotle you can feasibly split into two meals, same thing applies here. Then select up to three spreads, a protein (I go with the braised beef because it sooo juicy), as many toppings as you want, and a sauce/dressing. I go with feta, kalamata olives, pickled onions, and quinoa, but honestly there are so many options I've never made the same bowl twice. It's fun to play with your order. It's ridiculous how good this "fast" food is. With all of the combinations you can make, vegetarian or carnivore, you could eat here once a week for a year and have something different every time. Start with a base of rice, pita or salad and build your meal with dips, spreads, proteins and toppings. Example, the harissa is tasty and spicy, but not so fiery it distracts from your meal. Other imaginative offerings: quinoa tabbouleh, crazy feta.... and a meat protein, grilled meatballs. The line is long, and will give you time to decide what to order. A children's menu and drink options ates available. If your little ones insist on greasy fried food, Z Burger is next door. read more

High-quality, affordable Mediterranean fusion food. You order your own custom bowl of deliciousness at the counter, similar to the way it works at Subway or Chipotle. If you haven't been there before, I recommend looking at the paper menus before going up to the counter, since service is super fast once you're up there and the labels are hard to see, especially on the sauces. Try the specialty juice drinks! They are unique and not too pricey. Just ask for a fountain drink and the juices and sodas are self-service. read more

I absolutely love Mediterranean cuisine and this was so disappointing. My son said he heard good things about the food so we went to try it for Sunday dinner. I ordered a braised lamb pita with tahztiki sauce, cucumber and tomatoes. The sauce tasted like spoiled milk which ruined my entire meal. Ive had plenty of gyros and the sauce has never tasted like this. My son had a grain bowl and he ended up throwing away over half the food. He is not one to waste food so it had to be terrible. I really feel like this eatery is a little overrated and they should have better tasting food for the prices they are charging. read more

But here is some free advice for the Cava management: you probably noticed how crammed it gets during weekday lunch hours, 12-2. You need to apply capacity pricing, i.e. price meals during those hours with a 1-2$ surcharge. With that surcharge you can refurbish the second floor and use it...i/e expand capacity, for those who are now pushing for it. In the meantime, Firelake Grill (and soon Nando's next door..) will thank you...because standing 30mins in a queue for the counter, and then 30mins in another one for a place is not fun. Big fan of Cava. As others have described, it is nice to have another Chipotle-style service option from another food genre. Their ingredients are fresh and they have lots of different options. I like spicy food, so I'm especially partial to the Crazy Feta and harissa, but also enjoy their other options like tzatiki, hummus, etc. Only con is that it does't always fill me up (which can also be a pro), but the price is only $7-8 so it's definitely commensurate to the amount of food. read more
