Being visitors, on a Monday night, we discovered this spot by accident. Talk about Kismet! First off the service was spectacular. There were 7 of us out for a birthday dinner. We had the Cazbar Sultan platter....as someone who is basically a meat & potato kind of gal I must say this was superb. Something for every appetite. A huge, HUGE platter of steak kebobs, chicken, lamb and salmon. Delicious rice and a slue of 6 different dips with a wonderful bread. 2 of the party were vegetarian and they had the eggplant. I found the beef kebobs especially enjoyable. Dessert came with the meal and was very sweet...but truthfully, I was soooo full by then. We all enjoyed a wonderful beer called Efes and at the end of the meal some fabulous tea. I'm from the west coast where almost every type of cuisine is available to me but I was seriously impressed by Cazbar and when I return to Baltimore I will definitely drop by for their food and hospitality. I stumbled upon Cazbar by accident and it turned out to be a pretty good Turkish restaurant. Lahmacun ($9) - Turkish Pizza with Spicy Ground beef, Tomatoes, Onions & Lemon. I did enjoy this quite a bit, it has a lot of different flavors going on at once. Adana Shish Kebap ($20) - Ground Lamb mixed with imported Turkish Spices & Parsley. Adana's typically minced meat (lamb), dried red and green hot pepper, garlic and fresh red pepper are kneaded, coated on the skewers and grilled. Varying comments about this place but had enough stars next to it that thought we would give it a try. The place is small, however it does have a quaintness to it. Our waiter was efficient but not the friendliest. He gave us ample time to order but made no menu suggestions. We decided on the lamb pirzola and Coban Salatasi. Since we were splitting both plates, the assumption was the Coban (salad) would come out first... wrong. They both came out together... 10 minutes after ordering!? The Coban was good, tasty. The lamb was well done. We were not given the option of how we wanted it prepared. Wow, we really loved Cazbar. Cazbar is a quaint and inviting restaurant located in the Mount Vernon area of Baltimore and an easy walk from the Hotel Indigo where we were staying. We were there on Friday night and we did not have a reservation. We were seated right away but they were doing a brisk business. We started with the trio of Mezes which was a choice of three mezes from their Mixed Meze Plate. We chose Hummus, Baba Ghanoush and Yogurtlu Patlican. The hummus was excellent but the Yogurtlu Patlican was outstanding. I don't know what was in it besides yogurt, but it was really good. So good we needed more of Cazbar's delicious home made bread to finish it off. My wife and I shared the Lamb three Ways consisting of lamb chops, lamb Kebap & Adana Kebap Lamb Pirzol. Again an excellent dish. All of the lamb was cooked perfectly and was well seasoned and not dry. We had a great meal at Cazbar, it was one of the better or best Turkish places we have been too. Wow wow wow! Went for dinner tonight. We ordered spinach artichoke dip which was delicious! I had a free coupon from Yelp for hummus. This had to be the best hummus I have ever had. Outstanding! The kabop appetizer was half price tonight. The beef was so tender and delicious. I ordered the Manti - beef dumplings with yogurt sauce. So yummy!!! I couldn't eat it all and brought half of it home. We all shared baklava which was so good. My husband got lamb kabops which he loved and ate every bite. Cazbar is the gold standard for Turkish fare. We got the assorted dip platter with Turkish bread. I loved my Adana Iskender- the lamb is tender, flavorful, and goes amazingly well with the rice. We also got a free hummus with check-in. And the manti. The friggin manti- whether vegan or the original beef is THE WAY TO GO! Next time, I'll get a bathtub full of manti to go. Falafels weren't the best, wait... are there falafels in turkey? You're better off with Amsterdam falafel and you'll be comparing every other falafel to it going forward. Did I just say "going forward?" Oh God. Moving on, the dessert platter was an assortment of baklava, milk pudding, rice pudding, and kadayif. The baklava was mushy and not so flavorful (go to the Turkish grocery stores for the best baklava), the milk pudding was a little meh, and the rice pudding could have used a little less cinnamon. Start off with the Turkish pizza and falafel. 5/5 for both of them. The turkish pizza is a flatbread that has perfectly seasoned meat. We were seated right away and ordered our drinks. We ordered the meze platter and the mixed platter for two. The meze platter came our first. It included Hummus, baba ghanoush, ezme, patlican, şakşuka, haydari. If you don't know what to order you need to order this. Each spread was absolutely delicious. Cazbar has the best baba ghanoush I have ever had. We ordered a small portion which was enough for 2, I would say 4 at most. If you are a larger party I would order the large size. We came here for lunch, and loved everything about it. The decor is upscale Turkish. The service was friendly and helpful. And most of all, the food was delicious. We had the Ottoman 3-course lunch special. The lentil soup was brothy, and not the usually heavy puree, which we loved, especially after squeezing the juice of a lemon wedge in it. The baba ganoush was equally delicious, with the right complement of eggplant and spices. Don't be disappointed that the restaurant doesn't serve pita. The bread is out of this world. Oh my babaghanoush! Cazbar is a hidden gem in Baltimore, I can't get over how good their food is every time I go (seriously gets better every time and never fails my taste buds)! I love that their menu is on a tablet (so trendy) and easy to navigate. They have an array of options from mezzes, to sandwiches, to the classic kabob, to their own twist on pizza. I've tried everything I wanted to the two times that I've dined here and I have to say - their BREAD has a special place in my heart now. As carb adverse as I try to be, I could sit in sweatpants, watch the bachelor and munch on these breadsticks and wine all dang day and die happy. (Seriously though, if you order a dish that doesn't come out with breadsticks, just ask for a basket and they'll bring one out for ya)! Their chicken pirzola was so flavorful and juicy, there was SO Much food that came out with it (and another basket full of my favorite bread sticks YUM)! The trio of mezzes are a must when you come here - it gives you a taste of three dips of your choice, all of them have a hummus like consistency and is the Turkish version of tapas (and here's the kicker - IT COMES WITH BREAD!!) but beware if you're lactose intolerant like me - the yogurt mezzes come with A TON of dairy (but honestly think it's worth the aftermath - my favorite is the Yogurtlu Pancar and haydari even though these are the most dairy heavy of the mezzes - it has a very refreshing after taste to it. I also enjoyed the falafel sandwich, which is on the cheaper end of their menu but was SO SO filling (and bonus, is topped off with their amazing bread as a bun). [as you can tell by now, i'd marry the bread here if I could]. This place always has a moderate crowd (and never too loud - a major plus in my books) and you'll most likely get seated right away. Though I can't speak for Friday or Saturday nights as I believe they have belly dancing shows for dinner, which I have never attended. I was told there are belly dancers on Friday nights but we didn't see any. It's possible we left before it started (we left around 8:30-8:45pm). I'm a vegetarian and they have plenty of options for people like me. Their menu is very truthful about having limited vegan options (butter in rice). I ordered the baked okra and it came with rice (and bread if you request it). It was so flavorful and delicious! My husband ordered the tavuk sauté and it was literally the same as the baked okra but with chicken. He enjoyed his meal as well. The yelp check in offer included a small plate of hummus with bread. Wow! This place was just what we needed on a chilly Baltimore night! The dining room was warm and inviting. All of the meats in the Mixed Grill were delicious, I would order a whole meal of any of them. We also ordered the trio of mezzas: baba ganoush, a garlicky yogurt and pickled beets with yogurt - all fantastic! The bread was soft and they brought more when we ran out. For dessert we had a fancy turkish coffee, kind of like a latte I guess and I took the baklava assortment to go. But the baklava was my favorite part! Chocolate baklava (choklava??) is amazing and so were all the other kinds. Best of all, they are all made exclusively with pistachios. My only moment of "huh" was they were listed as being open until 11 and at 9:30 we were the only ones in the restaurant. At 9:30 they brought out strong bleach cleaner and started mopping the floor, leaving the bucket in the middle of the dining room. The smell was overwhelming and off putting. The food here tasted great and was definitely a memorable experience here. We dined here on a Friday night and was a packed house. The dining area is small-medium size and a cozy environment. We ordered a chicken kabob dish and the adana iskender dish which is lamb with a white yogurt sauce. Both meat tasted tender and juicy. Only complaint is that I wish the portion size was larger as I finished it too quickly. The service was excellent as they refilled our water which felt like every 5 mins. The manager was very nice and had a good conversation with him. They are building a new larger location in Columbia and the owner also owns homeslyce pizza as well. Our first four weeks of training with our first set of instructors were ending and they wanted to celebrate at this Turkish / Mediterranean restaurant. At first, one of our instructors tried having everyone pay for this two-three course meal that I wasn't keen on paying because I'll be honest-I wasn't too sure if I would like the food from the menu SHE chose because I was afraid I'd be stuck with lamb instead of beef or chicken!. The only thing that sounded familiar was baklava and kebabs but they spelled it differently "kebaps". So, I called the restaurant, shared that I was part of the big party that was coming in to rock the casbah (just kidding)-I just shared about the reservation and if I could place my order with her? She was so accommodating and took my order even though the get-together was planned for two evenings after our conversation. It was about a half-mile away from our hotel, which we decided to walk. It was pretty easy to find on Charles Street too! When we walked in, we walked upstairs, which the 2nd flood had their own bar and the adjoining room was filled with long couches or booths on either side of the room with low tables. Besides the bar, they also had hookah which I didn't partake of because smoking is smoking and I quit smoking cigarettes years ago. While we waited for our food, I looked at the decor of the room because I always like the designs of the Turkish culture because one of my favorite books is by Beatrice Small is "The Kadin" (which wasn't smutty like the rest of her books). Anyhow, the ambiance is very Turkish / Mediterranean style with the pretty lamps suspended on the ceilings. After about 45 minutes, the lights dimmed and music started playing! For the belly dancer! All I could think about was that it was a Mediterranean style of Tahitian dancing. The girl was pretty good and she actually was a good sport by tolerating the dollar bills that some men were giving her, which was kind of offending because she was dancing not stripping! But I tell you, she was in great shape because her music were lengthy. Must be a good workout nod that I think of it. After the entertainment, the food was served. While everyone picked and chose what to eat, I basked in my Chicken Kebap Meze that was cooked perfectly with veggies. Yum! Came here with a friend on the weekend. The lunch specials are awesome--lots of variety and a great deal. My friend got a lunch combo: a choice of soup, appetizer, and entree. He picked out the pumpkin soup, the yogurtu patlican, and the doner sandwich. The pumpkin soup was sweet with a complex spice profile that I couldn't figure out. I loved the yogurtu patlican: smoky chunks of eggplant--yum! The meat on the doner sandwich was like gyro, thinly sliced, well seasoned, but super moist at the same time. I have mixed feelings about this place. The food that we liked was really good, but the food we didn't like was really bad. So I think your experience here can differ drastically depending on what you order. I tried the vegan manti (the dumplings). They were weird. All the spices were on top so those were over saturated while the dumplings at the bottom were plain. It came with a yogurt sauce which had a strange flavor. And surprisingly, with all the spices and oil that were on them, they didn't have much flavor. But the calamari and fried shrimp were delicious (although it's hard to mess up fried food). I didn't really like dipping the calamari in the pesto, so I used the pesto for my breadsticks instead. Worth it!!! I do like how they label all the food when it gets delivered. That makes it very easy to figure out who gets what container. I would probably eat here again but I would be smarter about the things that I order. The Turkish pizzas were winners at our table too. As for entrees, the first time I went I followed the recommendation of my server and tried the "Adana Iskender". What a find! We were looking for something unique to try before a show at the Hippodrome and this fit the bill. We made online reservations which was great because it got full quick. We were greeted by our wonderful server who was from Turkey and she was so helpful with the menu and enthusiastic about many of the menu items. The menus were on tablets which was different and kind of fun! We started with the hummus sampler that we received for checking in on Yelp. It came with warm bread that they quickly refilled when we ran out. The hummus was DELISH! It was smooth and flavorful and just perfect! We each got a glass of wine to drink and that was lovely and we also tried the "Turkish" milk "shot" and kind of sipped it before dinner. It tasted just like a good and plenty and it was nice and cold. I enjoyed it. For dinner I had this beef wrap that was spicy and sooo flavorful. It was like a turkish meatball of sorts and it was just so well done. The rice and yogurt sauce it was served with really completed the dish. Wow. My husband had this lamb stew that was out of this world. It reminded me of a peruvian dish I love - lomo saltado. It had that spice with onions and tomatoes and it was warm and comforting. Excellent. For dessert we had turkish coffee which was like an espresso and we shared the two desserts they recommended. The flan was perfect and light and the other one (kind of like a baklava but not lol) was super sweet so they complimented each other along with the coffee. Pure gem of downtown Baltimore. Everything here is amazing!! I always get their "Trio of Mezes". You can't go wrong with anything you choose but my personal fave is their "Baba Ghanoush", "Yogurtlu Pancar", and "Yogurtlu Patlican". This past weekend was my med school's white coat ceremony, and I had been trying for weeks to find a restaurant that could accommodate my group of ~30. Cazbar was the only place that I called that was not only super willing to accommodate us, but also set up a great space for us to celebrate! We were set up on the top floor, which had an amazing ambiance and and beautiful interior. The service was great! I'm not going to lie, we were a hard group to tend for due to so many people and a lot of food restrictions/ preferences! This is my first time in Baltimore and my friend took us to this very quaint and secluded located near mount Vernon. The ambiance reflected a Mediterranean vibe and was decorated very tastefully. We ordered the mix platter and the sultan platter for four. We were first brought the sauces that complimented the dishes. There was hummus, Baba ganoush, tahini, a yogurt with beet roots, etc. it was complimented with crunchy pita type strips. Quickly after we were served an enormous platter with a variety of grilled meats-- chicken, lamb, beef, salmon, and shrimp. The meat was cooked very well and seasoned extremely carefully. Service was exquisite and we were luckily there on the night where they provided a belly dancer who put on a great performance. Would love to visit again! read more

Top 5 restaurants in Maryland... in my opinion. Started off with the free Yelp hummus. Good. They also bring out other dips. All were flavorful and delicious... all tasted differently. Then the cheese tray!!! Those cheese were FRESH... some of the best cheeses I had. The meaaaaalllll. We did the platter for 2 which really was enough for 3. The meats and veggies were soooo tastey. Whewwwww.... this food was so dang good. Of course we had leftovers... I woke up this morning (still laying in bed) thinking about that meal so I grabbed my phone to write up the review lol. And now im about to go eat leftovers f0r bfast!!! read more

Awesome food but the service can be a little slow. I'd definitely recommend it if you have some time to relax and eat. Hands down some of the best hummus in town. I redeemed the yelp check in for a free hummus appetizer, unfortunately I was charged for the hummus but didn't notice until after I left. So lookout for this if you do use the yelp offer. The hummus comes with delicious bread! I ordered the chicken kebab and it was delicious! Paired wonderfully with the rice and salad. The falafel sandwich and fries were also really tasty. I preferred the chicken kebab because it had a little more flavor than the falafel. read more

I was taken here for a first date. The ambiance in this place is nice. It's not too loud, but not too intimate. Turkish food is a conversation started because not too many people I know have tried its. For appetizers we had the trio of Meze. Chickpea, baba ghanoush and mohamra was our 3. The trio is more than enough to share for 2-4 people. If you have a bigger party then the mixed meze would be better. I had the stuffed eggplant for my entree. It was... interesting, lol. I didn't love it but it wasn't bad either. It was one of the few vegetarian options I saw for entrees so I guess that's what we went with. So now the reason I took off a star. The service was subpar. SUB. PAR. The place was not that busy and our waitress was more attentive to the men that came after us. I had to ask for water 2-3 times before she came to refill. My date had sweet tea (a drink you actually have to pay for with no refills) and still had to ask a couple times for a refill. The food took longer than I really think eggplant should take. Nice little Turkish restaurant a short walk from Hyatt Regency hotel. It's been years since I've had a good Pide (Turkish pizza). The last over 5 years ago in Toronto). Once I found out this establishment serves it, it was a must try. I also took advantage of the Yelp check in of a free hummus. The hummus was ok, could have had more (spice) flavor, however, the bread that came with it was warm, light and tasty. We ordered the beef sausage pide, which was delicious (almost as good as I've experienced back in Toronto) and the Lamb 3 Ways. The lamb was slightly overcooked than what I would have liked it, but overall yummy. One of the selections had a very spicy taste, which hit the spot. It wasn't busy around 5 on Tuesday. Service was quick and overall pleasant. I struggled between a 3 or 4 star rating, on its own the restaurant leans towards a 4. With my past experiences at the Toronto Turkish restaurant, this one would fall closer to a 3. read more

Had the Lamb 3 ways and it was delicious. Unfortunately, it was a little lukewarm, and my friends' had to be sent back for being cold. We had a large group for an event type function, so it's understandable that service could be a little hectic. They put us at a very small table. Eventually we were able to get another small table and expand our seating area, but the manager was kind of rude about the whole affair. Music was a little loud in the upstairs room. There are belly dancing shows on the weekends. Between the shows and the food, Cazbar is worth checking out! read more
