6.27.26 I am sad to have to write this review after the last visits were so good. They close at 2:00pm. We arrived at 1:27pm. There was one table with 2 people who were already eating their food and a table of 6 already eating. Then us. The table with 2 people had to keep waving his hand in the air to get his servers attention. Not a good sign. We ordered right away. While we were waiting for our order the servers were putting chairs on the table, mopping, and clean the tables. That is a HUGE GET OUT we want to go home! It took until 1:55pm before we got our food. We ordered breakfast food. The grits were ice cold and had a strange taste, my homestyle potatoes were cold but had a good flavor and my husbands were hot with no flavor. One of my eggs was completely raw. I did not eat the egg or the grits. The French toast was good. The final comment was when we were leaving. All the chairs were on the tables except ours. The server had mopped everywhere around us and mopped the exit. We were praying we did not slip and fall on the way out. (Can you say, super dangerous!) We stopped by CC's Cafe on Easter Sunday, and overall it was a really solid experience. They serve breakfast and lunch and are open daily until 2pm, which makes it a great spot for a late breakfast or casual brunch. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, even on a busy holiday. You can tell it's one of those local spots people keep coming back to. Service was friendly and kept things moving, which we appreciated with the Easter crowd. The food itself was good--classic breakfast/lunch options done well. Everything tasted fresh, and portions were fair. Since there is, what seems to be like, a chicken fried steak competition going on in Tomball and Magnolia, we had to go back to CC's for lunch to try their chicken fried steak. Everything was really good but the gravy and green beans were way too heavy on the pepper. I was also kinda bummed that it didn't come with one of those incredible biscuits they make here. The toast just didn't fit. The chicken fried steak was perfectly crispy and didn't have a lot of loose batter. The onion rings...oh my heavens. The onion rings! Those things are amazing! I took my leftovers and let my order half eat them because he didn't mind the heavy pepper. I just don't expect to have my mouth on fire from pepper while eating chicken fried steak. 1st time trying out CC's cafe and I can't say I was impressed. It was about 11am on Saturday when we arrived, they weren't super busy, but the restaurant was fairly dirty. Our Server Danielle was very personable and attentive, once we ordered our food it didn't take very long for the hot, fresh breakfast to show up. I ordered the Garden Omelet and specified, no meat. It ended up coming out with meat on it, but the waitress fixed it in no time with no problem. When it came back it was good, the veggie to egg ratio was a bit much, but it tasted good. My wife said her tacos were very bland and light on toppings, she also had the biscuit and gravy. She said that the biscuit was amazing, but the gravy had too much pepper. My sister in law had just a waffle and I could tell it was dry and hard just from looking at it and her taste buds experienced just what my eyes observed lol. I just wasn't extremely impressed with my experience at this cafe, not terrible, I can't say it was great. We might potentially try it again with different menu items. read more

Yessss!! I finally found good old-fashioned breakfast restaurant close by. Everything made from scratch big fat Belgian waffles with your choice of flavors, grits, country potatoes sautéed with onion. The list goes on and on. This place is a diamond in a rough & set in the middle of Tomball main road. We walked in to a full parking lot. The place was packed and rightfully so. truly cannot wait to taste the rest of the menu. read more

The food and service were excellent, but the lack of families with children seemed reflected in how the menu is structured. For a family of six (two adults and four young children), the bill came out to over $95. The kids' breakfasts don't include a drink (adding one costs more than half the price of the meal itself) and three extra pieces of bacon were over $5. There's a lot of potential here to attract more families, but at these prices it may be challenging, unless the intent is to cater primarily to an older crowd, which may well be the case. One big positive worth noting: there are no TVs anywhere in the restaurant, and I absolutely loved that. read more

CC's cafe is one our favorite home cook places to eat at. Food has been consistent all through the years. I've been coming here since Mr Joe owned the restaurant. The new owners have done a remarkable job in keeping the same food and atmosphere. Only thing that I noticed they changed food wise is their biscuits. I like the original biscuits over the sheet pan biscuits. They are still tasty. The staff is wonderful at both locations. Between the staff, food and atmosphere it gives you that small town feel that Tomball is. Even though it's growing. Highly recommend read more

While staying with my wife's brother during our house hunting trip, we had some free time and went into downtown Tomball in search of breakfast. We stumbled upon CC's Café and had a simple but delicious breakfast. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros: Two eggs, homemade salsa, refried beans, hashbrowns and tortillas. Exactly the flavor and taste that I wanted that morning. My wife went for the Western Scramble Plate: Scrambled eggs, with ham, bell peppers, tomato and onion with hash browns and wheat toast with she thoroughly enjoyed. Great food, great service and great prices. When we move into the area, we will definitely make it a point to stop back into C C's Café for another great breakfast. read more

Blueberry pancake, sausage and eggs were great as well, according to my gf. Newer version of the original place on main street in Tomball. Large dining area but it can fill up quickly. Been here several times and hasn't disappointed yet. Two people can get fed here pretty well under $40. Pancakes are the size of a 3# coffee can lid so order accordingly. read more

Used to love this place. Went there this morning no one even acknowledged us for 5 min. They brought drinks and then another 15 minutes goes by and they still haven't taken our order. The food was ok, the biscuits are sweet and worth having. Egg, bacon, grits, nothing special. Nothing extra on the plate for color. Service was good. The resturant is in need of some super cleaning. Mopping floors is fine, but smearing black dirty water up the wall at floor level is gross. A coat of Kilz on the stained ceiling tiles would be nice too. I shall not venture in again. read more

I declined and told her, "I'm here for a writing assignment," and asked if I could sit somewhere with a clear view of the bar. She didn't hesitate. She told me to follow her and led me to a booth with a clean, perfect shot of the bar, front row without having to climb onto a stool. She handed me a menu and told me to enjoy my evening. The bar itself was shaped like an oblong oval ring with gold seats lined up like little lifeboats, almost like a ship's bridge. Above it, about ten flat screens hovered in an oval formation, suspended in the air. Upside-down margarita glasses and champagne flutes hung overhead like delicate chandeliers in an expensive mansion. The bar area was filled with couples and solo diners enjoying the screens, sipping margaritas and champagne, and crunching on complimentary chips and salsa. Customer service was fantastic. My server, Ale, was highly energetic, lively, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I felt very well taken care of during this dining experience, which was supposed to just be a writing assignment, but it turned into a rewarding little night out. The complimentary chips and salsa were also pretty good. The atmosphere was vibrating at a high-energy level. There was loud laughter and conversation all around, the sound of dishes clanging in the kitchen, servers moving back and forth, and bussers scanning the room for abandoned tables to clean. For my appetizer, I ordered the shrimp crab cake along with a Cucumber Melon Margarita on the rocks. Both were absolutely delicious. The crab cake was mouthwatering and delectable, and that margarita was refreshingly fruity and strong, so good I ordered a second one. For my entrée, I ordered the beef fajita plate for one with cilantro rice, charro beans, and corn tortillas. I also added a side of the La Viva Shrimp (bacon-wrapped). I don't eat pork often, so I peeled the bacon off, and even without it, the shrimp was exceptionally tantalizing, full of bold seafood flavor. My entire plate was the bee's knees. I can't even explain how good the food was. Food Ratings Shrimp Crab Cake: 5/5 La Viva Shrimp: 5/5 Beef Fajitas: 5/5 Cilantro Rice: 5/5 Charro Beans: 5/5 Overall, La Viva Cantina is an upbeat, lively spot serving delicious comida with great customer service and an inviting atmosphere. First impressions were positive. The restaurant was clean, pleasant, and the staff were polite and attentive. Unfortunately, that's where the experience peaked. The menu itself is surprisingly thick and heavy, which gave us the impression there would be plenty of options. Instead, it felt like a lot of pages dedicated to not a lot of choices. After ordering, we waited somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes before the first entrée arrived. I ordered the ribeye, cooked medium rare. It was decent enough, but certainly not memorable, especially at the price point. My wife ordered the salmon, which managed to achieve a level of dryness usually reserved for desert climates. The real star of the show, however, was the vegetables and not in a good way. If you're looking to dramatically increase your sodium intake, you've come to the right place. The vegetables were overcooked, soggy, and so aggressively salted that I briefly wondered if the chef had sourced the water directly from the Dead Sea. Every bite felt like a challenge to my blood pressure. We also ordered the Combo Stir Fry Udon. The noodles were perfectly edible, but the accompanying vegetables suffered the same fate: limp, overcooked, and swimming in what tasted like concentrated seawater. In the end, the biggest issue is the disconnect between price and quality. The restaurant presents itself as a premium dining experience, but the food simply doesn't justify the cost. Clean restaurant, courteous staff, average entrées, and vegetables that could preserve a mummy. Sadly, not a place I'd rush back to for another birthday.

We anticipated this steakhouse being comparable to a Perry's or Kirby's, however customer service and food quality did not meet the bar as we expected. TL:DR it is a solid choice for a special experience and a great steak. I would go again. We started off with a couple of mocktails: The Blood Orange Fizz and the mint virgin Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned was a very tasty concoction--no alcohol burn of course but it captured the sharpness of an Old Fashioned and I really liked the mint. The Blood Orange Fizz was a mild disappointment--it had very little fizz and really needed it. Flavor was OK but not as good flat. We later got a bourbon flight, which was delivered by the bourbon sommelier and was quite fun. For starters we got a wedge salad, the Steakhouse Meatballs, and the Bacon Wrapped Scallops. The salad was fine, a standard garden salad with nice fresh ingredients. The meatballs were excellent--a steak and pork belly blend with a blueberry pepper sauce with onion strings. Great texture, lots of umami and good salt flavor. I absolutely want these next time. Same with the bacon wrapped scallops. They come on a bed of 3-cheese grits that were wonderfully creamy. The sauce has just a little heat. The scallops and bacon were cooked just right. Their seafood entrees are served over these grits, and though we didn't get any seafood I would try some next time for the grits. On to the mains: We had the Refuge Filet, the New York Strip, the Wood-fired Chicken, and the pork chop. The Refuge Filet was the highlight--the jalapeno, bacon and bleu cheese really complement the steak flavor. The steak was impeccably tender and done just right. The New York Strip was also very good. I am not a fan of this cut--when I cook it at home it's always tough. But their version is reasonably tender and has great flavor from the tallow butter they put on it. The steaks came with mashed potatoes that were pretty bland and ordinary. The wood-fired chicken was tender and had good flavor. It is marinated in lemon but we couldn't really taste it except in the bed of risotto. The risotto was quite good, nice and creamy. The pork chop was complicated. It had a tender uniform texture all the way through and nice flavor. I couldn't find any grain in it, almost like it was a fine grind. The sauce was ok, a bit one-note sweet for me. Different from and perhaps better than Perry's chop, but I think I would try something else next time. These dishes came with Apple-Bacon Brussels Sprouts and roasted carrots. The brussels sprouts were a disappointment. Might have known since it's misspelled on the menu. The brussels sprouts were barely cooked and quite tough, with too much of the bottom stem left on, adding to the bitterness. The roast carrots were fine. Since we had a birthday in the party we were treated to a special dessert. Birthday dessert at The Refuge has two major advantages--a nice tableside presentation of bread pudding flambe, and no annoying birthday song. Yay! Definitely tell them it's your birthday. The dessert is a banana bread pudding topped with ice cream. Rather uniform texture but good flavor and excellent with the ice cream. The ambiance is appropriately dark and sumptuous for a fancy steakhouse. The bathrooms are upscale, with available cloth towels. Service was fine but at a pretty relaxed pace, I definitely felt ready for the next course before it came. But we at times requested things from waiters other than the one waiting our table, and they responded immediately--good teamwork. This is not a bargain place, but we got out for under $100 apiece which I actually think is pretty good for an end-to-end meal. If you go to a steakhouse for steaks, you will do well at The Refuge.

They appear to have a private room off to the side that holds about 50 people that they offer with a guarantee that you will spend a certain amount of money. Once sat, our waitress acknowledged us about 3-5 minutes later. We ordered 2 waters, a coke and cheese sticks. The coke came first. The cheese sticks about 5 minutes later, then the water about 10 minutes later. Our waitress stopped by before the water got there to see if we were ready to order. We didn't even have water yet! The place was pretty busy. Our waitress just struggled to keep up with her tables. There was another waitress who was more experienced that jumped in and helped us. We finally were able to order our dinner. The cook, or someone, came out to tell us they were out of the cut of meat we ordered. This was a disappointment because we were here to celebrate my other half's birthday. So it wasn't off to a great start. We picked something else and by the time we got our food, it was cold. (Can you hear the heavy sigh?) The manager offered to take care of my meal, but I'm not about getting a free meal. I ended up letting him give us a discount. He was very nice and really tried to make things right. So, with all the things that went wrong, I am willing to give this place a try again.
