Food was delicious! We tried nothing but apps because it was an apps kinda night...did not disappoint. Shrimp were delicious, bacon cooked perfect, grilled onion...very tasty! Mac & cheese balls w/brisket...need I say more? Yum! We ordered the pretzel...lemme tell I don't live in Cypress but willing to drive to Cypress for this damn pretzel, it was that good! Stuffed tater tots were very good, just wished there were more! We were expecting a basket of messy greasy goodness and got a more refined version, but still delicious! Beer was great, nice and cold...Grace was our bar tender and she was awesome...let us try samples before making our selections on beer. She made us her Grace special original Pixie shots...did not disappoint! Ambiance was laid back...sat at the bar and enjoyed live band across the way right after. This place is loaded with atmosphere and I felt good walking in. Now this might sound a bit crazy, but I love picking up my cutlery and finding that it actually has some heft to it, and that's what I got with my knife and fork. LOL Mr. Picky really liked his shrimp tacos and I thought that his chili rice and black beans were really excellent when I stole bites off of his plate. I ordered the stuffed chicken fried chicken and was very pleasantly surprised. They substituted sides for me so I had green beans (very fresh and flavorful) and onion rings with it. Although I'm not usually a lover of white meat chicken, I actually found this to be moist enough to eat, I liked the Gouda stuffed inside and the outer coating was fried beautifully crisp. I particularly liked the gravy that they used and asked for extra so if you order this do the same. It had a nice peppery aftertaste and I asked if it was the same gravy that they use on their chicken fried steak. It is. For dessert we shared the sooapilla, strawberry and whipped pie thing, and bread pudding. Hands down, the moist warm bread pudding with ice-cream was by far the best. Overall, this was an enjoyable dining experience and we'll definitely plan on heading back. (Brunch on Sundays only.). Based on dining, it should be rated higher than a "3.6" so give it a shot when you're in the mood for some down-home cooking. read more

I am pleasantly surprised by this country-style place! Breakfast/brunch on Sunday morning was DELICIOUS! We arrived just as they opened up and were seated immediately. Our server was sweet and attentive. I started with a cranberry mimosa. I LOVE that they filled my regular glass instead of using a champagne glass! Yum! I ordered the delicious chicken and waffles and added a side of eggs. My husband enjoyed his omelet, especially the made-from-scratch biscuit. It was huge! Eh. Looking at the menu you'd expect the food to be incredibly tasty and well prepared. It was average at best. I think they told me that most people get their chicken fried steak or chicken. Since that'l seems to be their thing i probably won't venture away from that IF i go again. Really enjoyed lunch at Frio. Stellar service by Steve! He really was the highlight of our visit. Very attentive and food was prompt. Hamburger was grilled exactly as ordered. Chicken strips were perfect as was Caesar salad and yummy Mac n Cheese. We had some littles with us so loved the outdoor play area. Okay maybe it isn't a solid 5, but it is a lot better than a 3.7! This restaurant is sooo Texas. It is quirky. Fried pickles and chicken fried steak sandwiches, a dessert called the Texas State Fair with fried oreos twinkies and snickers bars, and mystery cans of beer for $2.50! In these days of corporate similitude I have to salute a restaurant who will deep fry a twinky or two. Service was excellent. Mystery beer was "three on the tree lager" out of Blanco TX. The ambiance and the service are great- I want to like it so much! But the food is just not great. I've tried it twice and brunch was definitely better than dinner. I know rent is high out here but there is definitely room to level up on the quality. Frio Grill absolutely nailed the Frio River theme, the nostalgia was intense. Our waiter, despite being extremely busy was very attentive and seemed happy to be there. The Mac N' Cheese balls are AMAZING. Not only are they fried to perfection, but the Mac itself is tasty with a hint of spice. Not your everyday Kraft for sure. Stuffed Chicken fried Chicken, a solid dish. No complaints, loved the Gouda and the French fries are actually seasoned and enjoyable. If you're a fry lover like myself, definitely get some. My mother ordered the Pecan Bourbon Chicken, it was a bit sweet but a nice meal. If you're more towards savory I suggest just going with the chicken fried chicken. Drinks were good too. We will be back. The environment alone is worth it. 10/10 experience. read more

We came here Wednesday night for a going away party for friends and sat outside under the awning near the front door. I will say the turf area is great for the kids to play and hangout while the adults visit however the little fans they have didn't help much at all and they didn't have the umbrellas up at the picnic tables. Our server was very sweet and remembered our names however this isn't the first time that everything just takes so long. The wings were great just over priced, shrimp tacos were tasty however I felt there could have been a few more per taco to make it worth the $$. The kids burgers and strips are always amazing! This is a great spot to meet up with families just wish the service wasn't so slow and anticipates the guest needs a little better coming from someone in the restaurant business. read more

This was my first time a Frios Hill Country Grill, and it was getting late, so I didn't want a heavy meal. Luckily, the waitperson was Kendra and Kendra recommended the Shrimp Tacos and the Chicken Tacos. The Tacos were out-of-this-world good! The service was good, too! Kendra was very attentive to us as customers in spite of being very busy on that particular night. I would recommend Frios to anybody, because the food is good. Unfortunately this place was not good at all. I was excited it to check out as it was recommended. Service was bad, it took a good 15 minutes before someone (maybe the manager) to come to our table and ask if someone came by to get our drinks. We told him no, he stepped away to get paper to write down our drinks. We got the smoked wings and trio chips with salsa for appetizer. Omg it was horrible!!! Smoked wings was soaked in bbq sauce. I didn't expect the smoke wings to be soaked in sauce. It also was dry, like they cooked it before letting it thaw out. It was disgusting. Salsas were likely store bought and white cheddar queso was runny. Such a disappointment. I got the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Thank goodness that wasn't bad. Very spacious and looks like a fun kick back spot. Looks like they have concerts in the back and they have lots of outdoor seating. Servers have great attitudes and were pretty efficient. We were pregaming and we went there for happy hour but I wasn't very thrilled with my drink. Skimpy on the alcohol, lots of ice and small. I got the house margarita and asked if they had strawberry and they added a very small splash. Ended up having to drown it with a lime to balance the taste. My watermelon salad was very refreshing. So, from the photos this place is not what you expect when you arrive. No pavement in the parking lot so if your car is freshly washed, it won't be anymore all dirt parking. From reviews & photos it appears to be a bit more upscale that it is. Not that that's a bad thing if that's what your looking for. The light fixtures are made from buckets, tables are hard wood, silverware is not shined (didn't appear to even be clean) but ok. Moving on. The atmosphere is very down home & country. They have an awesome outdoor patio that is very large and a fire pit for winter, very nice. So if you want to just hang out in your flip flops and relax this is your place. The wait staff was super nice. The waitress Angela was outstanding, generous with menu suggestions and let us know about Wednesday steak night and happy hours etc. She checked on the table and made sure everything was ok. Another lady who appeared to be the manager was also great, very friendly bringing the check and said goodbye from way over at the bar when we left. The food was actually tasty. Everything hot and all condiments arrived at the same time as the food. It's rare that you go to an establishment and get all of your condiments on the first try. FOOD: Smoked chicken quesadilla, rice & beans: Very tasty, you can actually taste the smoke in the chicken and nice amount of cheese this is great for an appetizer though because it's flatter than 1/4" (hints the 3 stars). The rice was tender, moist, salted and flavored nicely, beans also tender and flavorful. If the quesadilla was a little thicker this would be 4 stars. Chicken Strips & fries: Very nice, thick chicken breast, hand breaded not out of a bag, fries freshly cooked and seasoned. No complaints here. All in all this is a great place to hangout for no reason, a great local hangout spot, very much appreciated. Nothing against the place, just speaking the truth here. We went here for our SILs concert that was being held next door at The Barn. I ordered the Rockport fish tacos with green chili rice and black beans...woah! The rice has this subtle yet deep flavor that knocks your socks off! My husband ordered a burger medium rare and it was cooked perfectly! And don't get me started on the onion rings...obviously, fresh made and nice crunch. Grandkids loved the desserts! Even with three small children, our service was impeccable. Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and were able to get in with no issue (there was no live music going on). They have a couple large lots for parking, but even then it gets quite crowded! The place is deceivingly large - tons of indoor and outdoor spaces. If the weather is nice, this would be a great place to hang out on their large patios. For food, we started with their stuffed tater tots (basically like a loaded baked potato in tot form, delicious) and then I had the chicken fried steak for a main. The CFS was massive - easily 2 meals worth, and came with mashed potatoes plus an additional side of your choice. All seems to be made fresh in-house - no complaints here! This place has wonderful food and service. Our server was attentive, made small talk, asked about us, and provided us the history of the restaurant. We ordered fried pickles, pecan bourbon chicken, chicken fried steak, and the pull pork sandwich. All items had great flavor and were served hot and fresh. I will say, I made a mistake in not ordering my own pecan bourbon chicken entrée. I tasted my son's dish and it was outstanding! No complaints on my selection.... I just can't wait to visit again and order my own Pecan Bourbon Chicken.... We went on a Sunday and will consider this a new local favorite. read more

Great beer and drink selection, bartender was very friendly and made some great beer recommendations. Dinner service was a little slow, but it gave us time to chat. The Compuesto Flameado & fried pickled okra are both incredible apps - I couldn't get enough of the Compuesto Flameado - one of the best queso dishes I've ever tasted, and the chips are thick and delicious. We both had the West Texas Pecan Crusted Bourbon Chicken, it was ok, I read some iffy reviews and still tried it, wish I would have gone with something else. It was super thin and dry, had ok flavor. Parking is $10 on Friday and Saturday nights when they have live music. We came for dinner and I asked the parking attendant where I could park if I wasn't here for the music and they pointed at the ) 100% full parking lot and said anywhere over there is free. We went to Mo's who has a $7 summer cocktail list right now. Frio is renting the parking lot next door from a church. They should charge people there for the music that cost in the ticket price and not try to pass a parking cost onto the regular dinner crowd. read more

It's just expensive for what it is, not to mention having to walk on a dirt road meaning your truck/car will have dirt footprints inside...not cool after paying to have it cleaned.
