I am so bummed! They were at new Belgium and advertise so many gluten free options.. but when I asked to confirm what I wanted was actually gluten free I was told "it's 90% GF..." and "we'll.. we use cast iron and it gets really hot so there's no gluten left by the time it's done cooking..." no sorry my man, that's not how it works. So disappointed. If you are celiac know they use all of the same equipment for all of their "Gluten free" options ... nothing is actually gluten free. Bummer. read more

Cecilias is not what I expected at all. I am used to a half moon shaped empanada, packed with queso fresco, chicken or beef then deep fried to gooey goodness. Cecilias takes the idea of a traditional empanada and throws it on its head. They're gourmet empanadas blew my mind. Don't miss the spinach one. The drawbacks, they are a tad bit pricey, the 2 for 7 empanada deals are not everyone's cup of tea, and the hours are just weird. 11am - 3pm, that's it!!! The choice of only one salad dressing for my $3 side salad also had me frustrated. I would definitely return though, just more aware of what I'm getting myself into. read more

I am actually writing my review here of what I had from the Cecilia's Kitchen food truck posted at the Asheville farmers' market. I know they are the same owner, so I figured writing it here is the best way to get my rave review out there. My friends suggested I try one of her famed breakfast crepes - and I took them up on it. Thank goodness I did! It was phenomenal! And I don't even usually like crepes (they tend to be too egg-y for my taste). What's in it, prey tell? 2 eggs, cheese, pesto (I think perhaps in the egg batter), potatoes, leeks, tomatoes, zucchini and creme fraiche. $9. Amazing! Packed full of all those farm fresh ingredients - I topped it with some hot sauce they had on their picnic table next to the food truck - I polished off every last bit - and this thing is huge! I wish I lived closer as I would definitely want to have this on a weekly basis. Go Cecilia! read more

A soggy flop. Had heard and read so many good things about this place we were anxious to try. Went in during noon hour and no one else was there. I had 2 empanadas. It was evident to me that they had been microwaved. I ate about half of the first one and decided maybe the other was better. No, it was worse. The plate side was actually soggy and rubbery. Seems popular with the take out crowd although I've eaten onsite several times and its a good, if not small spot. They also offer bulk take out (frozen I assume) and catering. This is my favorite place to go after work. The food is so delicious it lifts me up all day knowing that I will go there afterwards. I always order the market crepe. So many buttery veggies and cheese folded into a gorgeous crepe. Small balsamic dressed side salad adds the exact amount of tangy to my palette. My 5-year old daughter never eats when we go out, but here she will have the Nutella crepe. Tastes as divine as you would imagine. Clean plate every time!! My husband gets the tomate empanadas. Like a fresh and perfect little flaky crust calzone. I also love the complementary water carafe and vintage glasses. The dining area is very basic and could use a bit more attention, but all of that melts away at the first bite!! It was a very generous tamale with chicken, mole sauce, veggies, and more. The mole and masa combination was super. The daily special soups always come with a crispy slightly cheesy crepe. So good. Cecilia' soups are not typical fair. The are clearly home made from great ingredients with care. Today I had a coconut curry and lentil soup and Chip had something called loco with pork and hominy. I am baffled by all the rave reviews. I had the famous Cuban sandwich, which was the worst I have ever had. Flavorless, no pickles, and the pork was just weird. In addition, we ordered the tomate empanadas, which were an under-baked soggy mess, not to mention that they were some other variety than what we ordered. Sadly we did the take out option, which kept me from sending them back. I had always been curious about this place, and my curiosity is now quenched, but not in a good way. My dad just moved to Asheville and we've been exploring some of the food around his house. My godmother mentioned Cecilia's, so one day for lunch we decided to give it a shot. We each got our own soup-Argentinian pulled pork and hominy, and the curry lentil- and shared the plates of tamales and empanadas. The soups had good flavor. The Argentinian pork and hominy was more of a stew, and the curry lentil was spiced great. They both came with a crispy crepe on the side, which felt a little weird. The empanadas were delicious. My favorite was the choclo, which I recognized from my trip to Peru. Cecilia's was creamy and cheesy in the best way. The tamales were so-so, the corn was a little too thick, but being that I live in Texas, I might just be used to a different style of tamale? The lady serving us was so nice and kind! My guest and I tried Cecilia's today for lunch at their new location. We were truly disappointed. We each ordered a different kind of crepe. Although the ingredients inside the crepe was fresh and tasty, the crepe itself tasted like soft cardboard. It had absolutely no flavor to it. Not sure what other people like about the crepes at this restaurant. There are better crepes to be had at other establishments. My guest and I agreed we would never have it again. The side salad was sufficient and tasty. My guest found a small piece of plastic in her salad. They gave her a dollar off her order. I hope they are more careful next time. Service was extremely slow. People who had come in before us got their orders the same time we got ours. The restaurant was not busy at all. I may give the restaurant a second chance. The dinner menu looked similar but different. So I may try that. But I will never order crepes again from here. read more

First time eating at Cecilia's I got the corn filled empanada and the chicken Tamale. My husband got the Cuban sandwich. The food was delicious and I especially enjoyed the chicken tamale it was tasty and the sauce was perfect. The only downside was the Peruvian coffee had a weird after taste and I was unable to finish it. The guys working were great and very accommodating. The experience begins you open the front door and are greeted by a waft of kitchen warmth and smells that let you know food has been cooking for a long time and that it's time to sit and eat. The small dining room looks into a small kitchen from whence the intoxicatingly comforting smells of Argentinian and French swirl and bathe your olfactory senses in what is sure to be a taste sensation. They offer Empanadas, Tamales and Crepes, trust me, it works . Well. My date ordered The Cuban: an excellent production of tender roasted pork, salty ham, pickles, Swiss cheese and yellow mustard between the halves of a crispy, pressed baguette, served with a spring mix salad dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. I ordered a bowl of Locro: a Argentinian stew of pork and hominy in a warm, salty broth that settles into the neglected crevices of your soul, accompanied by a buckwheat and Parmesan crepe. This is probably the best bowl of soup I have enjoyed in as long as I can remember, an absolutely perfect dish for a cold, rainy day. But I had to delve deeper and ordered two empanadas: Carne de Vaca-ground beef, onions, olives and hard boiled eggs, and the Berenjena-eggplant, tomato, onions and roasted red peppers. I can't emphasize how flaky and tender the empanada pastry crust was, nearly translucent and nearly dissolved in your mouth. But I couldn't stop there, oh no. Dessert: Dulce de Leche crepe. Rich, velvety, complete in its caramelized creaminess, complemented with whipped cream and powdered sugar. Remember, in the movie Trainspotting, when Mark Renton lies back on the floor and sinks into the carpet? This. The server/cook, Mark, was friendly and engaging and clearly invested in our experience. I can't recommend Cecilia's Kitchen enough! Please, please go and enjoy their delicious menu, soak in the warmth and pay homage to the marriage of Argentinian and French cuisine! read more

This is an easy place to miss, but don't make that mistake. I wanted to try at least five different things, and might end up doing so! I ordered La Pestou, a crepe with pesto, tomatoes, and cheese. It was absolutely delicious with great consistency, something I wasn't expecting out of a gluten-free crepe. They have really limited hours, lunch hours Monday through Friday, then 9-3 on Saturday. But it's a small place, so that can only be expected. Parking is tight too, only about 8-10 cars can fit in the lot. Cecilia was really nice and helpful. I will be back for sure! read more

What a gem! We are coming back soon for sure. Four of us went for Sunday brunch and were warmly greeted and seated right away at a table nicely distanced from others. (Outside dining and drive through pickup were also options.) Two of us had omelets, one crepes and one French toast. They have moved Cecilia's Kitchen to a new location on Merrimon Ave. The restaurant and full bar are beautiful. There is also a roomy tent out front. The menu is similar and they have added some great grilled items. The wine list is large and full of French and Argentinian wines. The food was amazing. What a great spot with great food and staff. The empanadas are filled with creativity and not just overwhelmed by greasy meat, as lazy empanadas might be. The house cilantro salsa was fresh and yummy. The house hot sauce was spicy but not overly hot while still having great flavor. And let's talk about the dessert crepes. We had the Buenos Aires dulce de leche crepe. So light and sweet.
