I initially had one star until the Techs (finally arrived) but upped it to 2, given that my fridge is now working ok... The dishwasher I'll document more about below This company is completely unprofessional doesn't follow through on their promises. They don't care at all about their customer's time. If I hadn't left work to come home early, and been on a time crunch given a closing date on a new house (damaged appliance(s) were in the old house) I would have canceled them all together and gone with either Dell's or All Around Town. I only went with them based on a recommendation that they may have lower prices on a new dishwasher. First of all, when I called to scheduled an appointment. Lenny, told me they were available on Wednesday from 12-3. I asked if they were able to come around 3pm and he sad no, no they only do the whole window from 12-3. He was emphatic about the fact that his techs do not start service calls after 3pm because otherwise they wouldn't be home 'in time for dinner'. I told him that would be fine, and I'd figure something out with work. Fast forward to the day of service. I'm at work (because that's where most people are at 9am on a Wednesday) and receive a call/voicemail from Lenny asking me to call him back. He doesn't say the reason for the call. I step out around 10:30 to call back and get a woman in the office on the phone. I wish I got her name because her lack of ability in the customer service department really warrants being called out directly. I'm perfectly polite to her and explain the voicemail from Lenny. She acts like she doesn't know what phones, or calls, or humans, or Lennys are, and says I can only leave a message for him, and that she has no clue what the call was about. She insists she has NO way to contact Lenny or the other service techs. I don't believe her, but I politely leave my contact info. I arrive home around 12:10, of course no one is there. I wait until 3:10. Still no service techs, and no called to give me an estimated time, an apology, nothing. At this point between my conversation with Miss Congeniality earlier and their lateness, I'm pretty frustrated. I call and politely ask if there was an update on the techs. Miss Congeniality again informs me in an annoyed voice that she doesn't have any idea, she only makes appointments. I ask if she has their cell numbers so I can call myself. She says no she doesn't have any contact with them (YEA RIGHT. ) and says I can leave a message with her. I tell her I already did that. ** Silence** then she angrily asks if she should just hang up. I say no, maybe she should get her carrier pigeons out to the techs because apparently that's how they communicate with her and customers (yes, I said pigeons). She basically yells, that she can take a message so I YELL my contact info at her, and tell her THANKS A WHOLE LOT, YOU ARE SO HELPFUL in a sarcastic tone and hang up. Five minutes later Lenny calls back, so those carrier pigeons fly real fast I guess, or maybe Miss Congeniality found her Rolodex in the office. I tell him what happened and he tells me that 12-3 is just a 'window' and that they got 'held up' and I remind him that he told me techs don't come after three. He brushes me off even though I told him just a call to say they'd be late would have been sufficient and that he wasted my time leaving work early. The techs arrive around 3:30 (apparently they're not worried about that dinnertime?), they're only in my house for about 20 minutes They were generally kind and did what they were supposed to.. but it wasn't that great either. The turn on my dishwasher again (causing it to flood on the floor again) then promptly tell me it's broken. Shocking. They then give me an outrageous 525 PLUS 200 dollar install price for a new one (no thanks). They did thaw out my freezer and clear the frozen drain, so at least that was something. It cost 145 for the call, and the fridge repair.. I think pretty comparable, but also still kinda ridiculous given they weren't here more than a half hour. So Cedar Appliance, you guys need to come up with a FAR better communication system and/or decide on your lies ahead of time so they don't contradict each other. Also, it's time to trade out Miss Congeniality for someone that can do more than act like at best an airhead an at worst a jerk. read more

Called them for a front-loading washer with a recurring fault. Two people showed up to examine it without any tools or equipment to actually do so. They then proceeded to list multiple low probability faults that could occur without addressing the one I called them about. At one point, I thought they were going to sell me a bucket and washboard considering how negative they were towards clothes washers in general. Cost me close to $100 to be offered the opportunity to spend three times that should I call them to fix the original issue. read more

I had a really good experience with Lenny and a tech that happened to be in the store. I'm pretty well broke these days and I decided to the repair my fridge myself. I live only a half mile away and they were able to order the parts that I needed quickly and easily. Lenny was really friendly in person and both he and the tech actually helped me to figure out how to test one of the parts I suspected was broken. I was charged less than retail price and was able to get all the parts I needed for about 70% of what it would have cost to order from Maytag. It made me feel good to work with a local company. When I walked into the store with a part the tech said, "Oh you need a new Maytag refrigerator thermostat?" It did give me that happy comfy feeling. read more

They came by looked at our gas cooktop, where the flame keeps blowing out, and said, "You should probably just buy a new one." Then we asked them to fix the dripping ice maker in our freezer. They said they had to order a part, charged us $85 and never came back. Six weeks later I called, they apologized, and said they'd call me the next day. A week later I called again, and they said it would be too much work to pull my refrigerator out unless I pay an add'l $350 to take the door off my fridge. I have been using Cedar appliance for many years. I trust them when it comes to purchasing and repairing my appliances. Over the years they have done repairs on my dryer, washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator, and stove. And I have bought a washing machine and dishwasher through them. This is a a no nonsense, honest company. If it costs more to repair than buy a new appliance, they will tell you that. They will assist you with purchasing a new appliance if needed. We called Cedar Appliance because out fridge went on the fritz--first with a buzzing sound, and a couple days later it wasn't keeping things cold anymore. They gave us a quote on the phone and we set up the appointment. To keep it short, the guys that came gave a heroic effort but couldn't fix the fridge. They spent three hours working (including calling in a third person and going out to buy a replacement part). The guys were very polite and courteous the entire time, and explained what they were going to do and my options. In the end, they did not charge us any more than the original quote, nor did they charge us for the replacement part (they said they could use it for another repair). They spent far longer on it than they needed to for the price. They did warn me there was a change the replacement part wouldn't work as a fix, and I said to go for it--expecting to pay even if it didn't work. So though they couldn't fix my fridge, I'll call them again without hesitation if I need their kind of services. read more

This is the company that saves us when something bad happens to appliances in our building. With that said I must confess that I have no knowledge of their prices. I don't pay for it, my landlord does. I do know that she doesn't mess around so I'm betting they're not crazy. What I can tell you about is the customer service. Which is awesome. I never call them directly, my landlord does but when they call me back they are polite, professional, and work with me to find a time they can come out that works for me. Their hours typically conflict with work but both times that they've come out they quoted me the typical four hour window and showed up within the first hour. These are people that don't creep you out when they enter your house. They're not filthy, and you don't feel like they're going to rob you blind. There's really not enough stars for peace of mind when people are in your home. The first time they came was to replace our old fridge. They managed to remove the old fridge out without scratching the floor or damaging the walls they installed the new one, showed me the warranty information, and made sure it was properly cooling, and called me later to make sure it was ok. That's good in my book. The second time they came out was to fix the igniter on my stove. While I love cooking on a gas stove the thing scares the piss out of me. Anything that can blow up my entire building worries me. Having to hold a match up to that thing to light it doesn't work in my book. Again, they were here in a timely manner and got right to work. Unfortunately it needed parts they didn't have so I had to have them back later. The subsequent visit was again professional and fast. They took my stove apart and reassembled it with working parts quickly. They even cleaned underneath the beast. I haven't even done that (oops). Before leaving they made sure I knew that the stove was too close to the wall and showed me the safe distance it needs to be to not mess up the piping (and blow up the house AAAAGGGHHHH!!! {ok, I added that part}), they even showed me how to take it apart to clean underneath (yeah, right). My dishwasher door was getting stuck on the cabinet because of a mechanism in the door (the hinge was loose). They said they couldn't fix it and that it would require a door replacement. All they could do was suggest that I buy a new door or a new dishwasher and have it properly replaced. They came for about 15 minutes in total to adjust some screws (just moving the dishwasher a quarter of an inch), and they charged me $115...for doing absolutely nothing. I later replaced the hinge myself on the dishwasher which took a while...and it works perfectly now. I would suggest DIY. I thought that by hiring someone to do it for me could save me some time and effort, but these guys just didn't want to do any work. read more

Our fridge conked out while we were out of town for several days. We came home to a warm fridge (but completely cold freezer) and a ton of spoiled food. I called Dell's Appliance, Boston & Cambridge Appliance, Around Town Appliance, At Your Service Appliance, and finally Cedar Appliance. No one else was able to come out the same day (At Your Service doesn't serve Somerville). I called in the morning and their operator said they might have availability later in the day so I left my number. They called back in about half an hour and said someone could come out between 1:30 and 3. The service technician came by around 1:30, diagnosed the problem pretty quickly. A piece of foam from the insulation between the freezer and fridge had broken off and was clogging up the drainage, the water that should have been draining had frozen and the fan between the freezer and fridge was frozen in the solid block of ice. They thawed out the ice, taped up the foam so it wouldn't break up like it had before and gave me some tips in case it happens again. It cost $119 in total, $75 for "Technical Service Time" and $44 for "Basic Charge". That was probably a lot for what turned out to be a simple problem, but that seems to be around, or even lower than, what other companies are charging for a service visit. Plus I didn't know what it might have been and now I know how to fix that problem myself in the future. Their website says they take credit cards, but I just paid with a personal check. In case anyone else is curious about their rates, the operator said they charge $69 for the visit and diagnosis, but if you have them perform the service to fix the appliance, then that just goes toward the final price. read more

I've run out of patience. This little shop CANNOT be so swamped that they don't have time to return *multiple* calls from someone who is trying to be a customer!!! We have a wall AC that's about 20yrs old, insanely loud, and still working but broken in the sense that the temp can no longer be adjusted. Clearly time for a new unit. Two guys from Cedars came out and measured and took pics and proceeded to never contact us again. We called them finally to ask what the deal was and we were told "Len" had info for us. We left a message for Len to call us back. He finally did and left a voicemail. We returned the call maybe 20mins later but he didn't respond. Called again the next day and was told Len was on vacation and apparently NO ONE ELSE could help us. ??? So no one could give us prices on a new wall AC unit? Seriously? I also agree with the other reviewer who called out the clueless secretary who answers phones there. This place is ridiculous - total waste of time. We've now waited about a month and dealt with our broken unit through a humid, week-long heatwave. Thanks for nothing, Cedar Appliance. My dryer just stopped working and originally I called another place from a recommendation from a friend but they did not fix Samsung dryers. I called Cedar and the woman who I spoke to was so sweet and forwarded me to one of the men who I gave some info about my issue. I set up an appointment and they did come on the later side of the window but I'm sure they had clients before. Three men came worked for about an hour and then told me the price for what parts would be and when I agreed they said they just had to drive to Malden and could come back to install. I was very surprised they were able to install that same day! They were gone for twenty minutes came back and fixed it all up! It wasn't nearly as expensive as I thought and all the men were so nice. I definitely would recommend them to anyone who has any appliance issues and I know they will be my go to company. read more

I have used this company 4 times in the past 5 years. Once for my stove, once for a washing machine and twice for a dryer. First, I have to say that they are very responsive-- I have never had to wait days and days for a repair and they show up very close to when they say they will be there. Second, they are trustworthy and honest. When I called for washer service, they advised me that it was time to get a new one and explained why new was better than repair in this instance. They have worked magic with my stove and my dryer both times they have fixed it (unrelated repairs). They are friendly and fast. I would feel comfortable having them in my home if I were unable to be there. I like being able to repair what I have instead of buying new and these guys help me do just that. read more

Cedar Appliance Repair is AWESOME!!! They were at my house today and the repairmen they sent were nice, friendly guys who fixed my dishwasher in a snap. The charge was surprisingly reasonable, actually very reasonable! Also they showed up when they said they would, which is highly unusual (think Comcast) I will definitely be putting Cedar in my speed dial for any future repairs I need. Just a nice, old school business. I went in (after going to two other stores, one was a huge chain the sounded like domehepo) with no luck for a dryer belt. As soon as I walked in Phil came over said hello and asked my name. Then he asked what I was in there for. Told him and he got the owner to help me find the part. Phil was really nice and talked to me about the weather and that sort of chit chat. The owner can back and said he couldn't find the model number I gave him (turns out it was the serial number, ops!) But he found me the most common one and said if I had issues I could bring it back. All in all I was in there for maybe 20min but it was a nice 20min and I felt like they really appreciated my business. I like 'em! read more

I gave them a call and they scheduled an appointment within two days, and gave me an estimate that was completely accurate. When they arrived, the service technicians were courteous and professional, worked effectively in a small space, and quickly identified and replaced the defective part with one they had on hand. read more

Naturally, what follows is reflection on my own experiences, which is to say, conclusions drawn based on personal experiences. This is an update from a 2014 review I wrote. I have been a customer since about 2012, and their approach has shifted in that time from, "Integrity" (which I wrote in 2014), to "an astonishing level of unprofessionalism." This unprofessionalism begins in the office, with Lenny and someone else who answers the phone for him - a female voice whose name I don't know. Lenny doesn't return phone calls, so don't leave a message and expect to hear from him. If you manage to speak with him, he will either be condescending or pandering, and he will also not take any time to listen to the issue, instead preferring to admonish you for errors you may or may not have made in the use of your appliance. If the female voice answers, she will be similarly condescending, and may or may not actually take a message. Don't expect to hear back from Lenny, even if she does take a message. The appliance itself? Well, it worked for 2 years, so if you wish to use your appliance according to manufacturers guidelines after Cedar installs it, and still repair or replace very 2 years, then this is the way to go. As for me, I will never call them again. 1 star because there is a dishwasher repair person who is exceptional at customer service. If he were to go into business for himself, I'd like to know about it. read more

Our 5 year old fridge wasn't keeping things in the freezer, well, frozen. We did all the usual stuff, vacuumed the back and underneath to remove any accumulated dust. turn the fridge & freezer dials up to max..... still no go. Called Cedar and they said they'd be down the next day. An hour or so later they called back and said they had a cancellation and would I be available for them to come down now? Why, yes! Courteous, pleasant and helpful! Went through everything step by step. Replaced a couple of parts and gave me the do's & don'ts of what to watch for. Next day things were better but, ice cream was still soupy. ( Can't have that!!) Called and they made another stop by the next day. Checked everything out, turns out the temp control itself was faulty. Replaced it at no extra cost!!! Who does that???
