I wrote a Yelp review before about the ray but I honestly cannot get enough of the curry and the service and of course the bread pudding! Ryan was my bartender / server and he was so kind and made a great old fashion! Had dinner and enjoyed the sunset outside! I was so happy to see the rocking booths back, thank you!! 10/10!!! This became a favorite place from the get-go when we moved here about 3 years ago. It's just pub food and a rather limited selection at that but the food has always been good and the brew list is extensive. In a little town where they roll up the sidewalks at 9 p.m., the late hours they keep is appreciated. Keep up the great work and atmosphere, you guys rock! read more

As Chicagoans we can be a bit snobbish about our food, including Irish Pub fare. We're thrilled to say that Celtic Ray did not let us down! Their fish and chips are truly the closest we've tasted to the Duke of Perth on Chicago's north side. Add in the live entertainment and the neighborhood vibe with a little play area for kids, and it was pretty much perfect. We'll definitely be going back again for some cider and ale, and terrific food. read more

When you walk in the door you are transported to Ireland. It truly feels like an authentic Irish pub. The food is AMAZING!!! I had the veggie Pasty and it was delicious puff pastry with a mix of vegetables and Irish curry. My husband had the sausage rolls and it was a 10 out of 10. He was delighted to have a Smithwick's with a Guinness head also know as a special. If you are a Guinness connoisseur you will find a great pint here. This was by far the cleanest bar I have every been to as well. The owner was mingling with the guest and the bartenders were very friendly. I have to say again the food was awesome. Eight of us met in Punta Gorda at the Celtic Ray restaurant. The place was packed. Clearly a lot of local repeat business as evidenced by the multiple Celtic Ray shirts being worn. I'm not sure what the deal is but it's possible that there are either discounted or free drinks if you wear one. We ate in the courtyard outside and it was pretty cold, so dress appropriately. Most of us had the fish and chips and all of us liked the food. One of us had the shepherds pie, and she said it was good. Live music was playing inside. read more

We stopped here after a full afternoon of kayaking. What a gem! Live music was playing from the patio, good vibes and good social distancing. We ordered two pasties, the GBCB and the tandoori. The bartender and server gave us great service. Entrees came out quick and piping hot. Next time I will swap the fries for a side of colcannon, otherwise, everything was delicious. Absolutely love this place! Since moving to the West Coast of Florida, I've been trying to find a cool place with a fun atmosphere, good food, and plenty of beer that stays open late. The Celtic Ray definitely is all of those things. I want to say first off, the food is made to order. I see a lot of negative reviews on here due to the wait times for food. If you don't have time to spare and it's busy in there, you might want to reconsider ordering food as it will take a bit to come out. We went on Christmas Eve and it was slammed, so our food did take a while to appear. When it arrived though, it was hot, fresh, and delicious so I have absolutely no complaints about it. This is definitely one of those places where it is well worth the wait. They have a nice outdoor area as well as upstairs. It's definitely got that Irish pub charm but in a well done modernized way. Very friendly staff. I'll have to come back when they have some live entertainment! read more

We were a group of four looking for something different so the Celtic Ray Irish Pub in Punta Gorda fit the bill. The menu offerings range from salad, soup, to full Irish fare. Our order included the 5 Green Salad with salmon, Leek & Potato Soup, Shepherd's Pie, & Breton Chicken meals. Every item looked & tasted fresh & delicious. Quality and quantity were both excellent and all of us loved our selections. Pub style ordering at the bar was easy and our questions were kindly answered. Food was graciously bought to our table in reasonable time for made to order food. The Irish decor and live music made for a fun evening in addition to a 5 star meal. Went for trivia the other night, beer was a little bit on the pricey side but they are all specialty beers so kinda expected that. I didn't eat but the food looked good and the bartenders were all excellent. Very knowledgeable about their offerings and samples weren't a rarity. We enjoy the live music, friendly atmosphere and good drinks/food. However be warned that you have to place your order at the bar, pick up your drink, if you order foods you need to place order at bar and tell them what table you're at so they deliver that. Because the person taking my order, whom we worked together years "ago" in another restaurant, continues to demonstrate how unable she is to separate her feelings from being a professional. It's on camera. I walked up to the bar, awaiting my turn to order. My turn. Made eye contact. Hi, how are you? I engaged first, but there was no response. Hope you are doing well. i engaged again. Again, there was no response. Happy New Year, i said lastly. What can I get you? That was the best she could've mustered? Her adding facial features were just icing. I am a customer. I came in and spent close to $100. Does my money not matter to your establishment? The food is awesome, and I love the atmosphere. I think you have one of the coolest buildings in town. I would recommend anyone without hesitation. However, the level of disrespect has left me downloading Yelp to leave this review. Your kitchen staff brought my food to the bar under this bartenders name. Her back was turned and in a corner doing busy work. He asked who the food would was for. She would not acknowledge until both other bartenders asked her if it was her order. Still, she would not turn around and offer me my food, even though I was right behind her, and she knew it because I had my Great Dane and he's a crowd getter. I wasn't offered a good night or even a thank you for my business. I did, however, in spite of all of this tip. Should have waited to tip as I would have not left a cent. In fact, it took everything I had not to ask for a manager on the spot. Watch your camera. There's always going to be people we dont like in the world. Shepard's pie was ground meat with mashed on top.....Horrible. No vegetables and a dribble of gravy. Also, did 2 orders of the Scotch eggs. Another poor choice, as they appeared to have prepared the day before. We are local and were entertaining family from out of town on a Sunday evening.
