If Patrick is available you'll be with the best employee they have. They have a huge parking lot and that inside is full of all your gun needs. Friendly knowledgeable staff make it comfortable weather you know nothing or everything about guns. "Knowing nothing about guns, I was gifted my father's favorite hand gun when he passed away knowing that "it needed parts". I was recommended to Center Mass and met Patrick as soon as I walked in. He helped me put the parts we had back together and researched what part was missing. He thoroughly explained how it would still work without it but also the consequences of not getting a new one. Unfortunately, there were no parts available online - anywhere - for such an old German gun but he helped me figure out how I could make one myself. After all that work and effort he put into the gun and me, he didn't charge me a thing. Being clueless about guns, they all made me feel comfortable and treated me well. Here's the good part; Brad (former MI State Police firearms instructor) did a fine job on the CPL class. I know, I used to teach courses and I've taken a bunch over the years. Now for the rest. Don't bother with these jokers for transfers. I did three here. All went the same. Way too long to do the transfer (over an hour), less than pleasant treatment from people who didn't seem to want to be bothered, then wait for the checker person to check all the forms. Then after the checker person 'checked' to make sure EVERYTHING was just right, all three times mind you, a phone call to please come back and correct the mistakes I made(!) and, hey we'll give you a free HALF Hour of range time. How generous of them after making me wait 1-2 hours for a transfer and having a second dolt 'check' to make sure EVERYTHING was just right. I did offer to make the 'correction' requested, if they mailed me a copy of the form and a stamped return envelope. "Oh, we can't do that". Yes you can, it's right there on the instructions on the 4473. Try reading it. My current shop charges twice as much for a transfer, takes half the time, treats me (and everyone else) very well, all the employees are polite and professional, and gets the 4473 right the first time. This facility is no longer tied for my favorite - it IS my favorite!! Staffers are super friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to share their knowledge - clearly this is a passion for them. They were very chatty, maybe because we were there without a crowd. Nevertheless, we felt welcomed. The reload ammo I bought tonight was inexpensive but nice quality. My groups were equivalent to Spear Gold Dot 124 grain which I paid almost three times as much since they were recommended by an experienced LEO for personal protection ammo. Lanes have decent sized double shelves and was really clean. Targets had better lighting than two other places I've been. Classes offered are many. I'll be going back for sure! read more

I can't say enough great things about Center Mass. This was my dad's gun store. My dad recently passed unexpectedly and left behind some firearms that my mom clearly didn't want or could use. This all in the middle of my parents selling their house and a complicated move. Long story short: I was stressed beyond belief and the guns had become a burden on a long list of burdens. I had no idea what to expect, but I was stunned at how welcoming, gracious and accommodating the folks here were to our situation. We didn't have the proper paperwork and they took time to help us navigate that so that we could sell them on consignment. And then, when it came time to consign, a customer stepped up and offered to buy the firearms on the spot. The folks at Center Mass could've balked at the loss of some sales, but instead immediately jumped in to to help facilitate the sale. The woman and gentleman who helped us (I apologize for forgetting your names!) did not have to do this, particularly since this is a busy store. Today I had private instruction with Lt. John Sherman at CMI. Lt. Sherman is a great instructor, patient and thorough in his instruction. He answered questions clearly and concisely. He mentioned at the end that he really likes to teach and his dedication to teaching and his experience show as he instructs you. I told him that I was a novice handgun user and that I was taking private instruction for booth target shooting and home defense. He went through basic handgun safety and then talked about all the fundamental aspects of shooting such as stance, grip, sight alignment and sight picture, natural point of aim, trigger control and follow through. After that, he had me load the handgun and shoot six shots at simple black circles. We started first with primary hand, one hand only and then with primary hand two-handed. After that we switched to a silhouette target and practiced firing center mass, some headshots and finally a cadence of six shots. At no time did I feel rushed. Lt. Sherman kept a good pace and was always watching and correcting as need be. He was also very encouraging and made it fun to shoot. I'd definitely recommend anyone interested call up for an appointment. Some things to note: The handgun (A M&P 22) was provided but you have to pay $75 for the private instruction and for two boxes of ammo. Two boxes of ammo at the time were $3.99 each. They will provide eyes and ears and prefer you to use their ears since they're electronic and amplified. You need to schedule a private session at least one hour in advance and can choose any of their instructors. As stated before, I highly recommend Lt. Sherman. read more

Range is nice but small. Rates are good, and staff is very helpful. Most staff are knowledgeable about the firearms they sell and most of what you come in with. I shoot competitive 3 gun so they are great for coming to test a setup or zero and optic or test a new ammo load. However there are two issues that I saw. First, two of the staff members dress Tacticool. Have to wear duty belt with first aid kit, six magazines, knife, etc, bloused pants. Those that do, their bellies spill over the belt. One in particular, between his belly pushing the front of the belt down, and the extreme cant on his holster, he muzzle sweeps everyone behind him. Second issue, and this is the most annoying. DO NOT use them for out of state FFL transfers. You fill out a form on their website for a transfer; name, type of firearm, address, CPL etc. This should be all they need to get the paperwork done and complete NICS, when I go through my regular FFL this is all done before I'm even called for pickup. It isn't. When your gun arrives to them, they call you the next day. "Your ready for pickup." You have to fill out the federal form when you get there, at least this is on a tablet. This is also when they start NICS. Not when they received your purchase. I was called on a Friday afternoon, went in on Saturday morning to pick up. Stayed there for an hour doing the paperwork and waiting for NICS. Was told NICS is still running and to come back in a few hours. Came back. I'm NICS delayed, can't pick up until the following Thursday now. Two trips up there, 90 minutes waiting in the place, to come out with nothing. Cost me a match on Sunday, and maybe more. read more

My favorite range in the area. They have memberships, which I think are valuable if you're constantly shooting, but very reasonable in price. The range is nice and well kept, it's monitored by video and not a range officer inside but I've never felt unsafe due to negligent shooters. Everyone is always helpful with equipment and advice, the only downside is they are occasionally understaffed for the crowd. In general it's not TOO busy where you're uncomfortable in the range. It's not much of a shop for buying guns but they offer FFL services. In addition they offer a lot of classes from beginners to tactical which is a huge bonus, as well as an armorer for common brands. Last thing without getting too political - there's a diverse crowd at this range which isn't always the case when it comes to firearms. Everyone seems accepted and comfortable. It seems like something that should be a given but it's not in gun culture. Coming from a bi-racial family I appreciate that. read more

Here is the nutshell of my review: This place is unprofessional, unsafe and has absolutely zero customer service. No one should ever go here. The economy is tough - I am sure that there are businesses out there that will fight harder for your dollar. Read on for a more in-depth analysis. To place this review in context, here is a little bit about me as a gun enthusiast: A militia member I am not. Before my visit to Center Mass yesterday, I had never even held or fired a gun. I do not own one, nor do I have any desire to. I purchased two Living Social deals back in December because there were a couple of budding gun ethusiasts on my holiday gift list and I thought that this would be a thoughtful Christmas gift. In order to use the vouchers that I purchased, I placed no less than 10 phone calls to Center Mass to set up a reservation. Why so many phone calls? Because each time I called, I was told that they did not have the .22 ammuntion that was included with the Living Social deal I bought. I thought that was pretty incredible since they themselves had offered a deal that included the aforesaid .22 ammo. I also left a few voicemails and none of my phone calls were ever returned. Instead, I was invited to just call back and call back and call back...Understand that there was some urgency to get this done because the deal I bought had an expiration date that was quickly approaching. In fairness, they did say that they would honor the deal past the expiration date, but I did not trust them to do that. Well, finally, they had the ammo in stock and I went with my group yesterday. Standard procedure is to fill out a waiver before shooting. At the top of the waiver, you are asked to check the box that best decribes your level of gun experience. Everyone in my group checked the "NOVICE" box. The brusk gentleman behind the counter looked them all over, then said, "So, you are all novices. Does anyone have any previous experience with guns?" One member of my group said that he did. The Center Mass employee then said, "Ok, so you can show them what to do." Then, the employee gave us all the instruction that we were going to receive from him when he sternly said, "Safety's huge". We bought an additional box of ammo. That should have been simple, but it was complicated by the fact that Center Mass had the prices displayed incorrectly and then had no change in their register. Really guys? Aren't those two really basic tenets of running a retail business? That is, after all, what half of the building is. Then, to really finely underline how truly unprofessioinal and lazy the range workers were, they asked us to retrieve one of their own people from the range once we were allowed inside. So, I am paying for range time and you are asking me to use some of it to do your job? I did get to shoot. Safety glasses and ear protection were provided. The lanes are cramped like others have noted, but it is indoors, which was a plus. There was an overflowing trash can and no shelf on the back wall for reloading magazines. Thankfully the more experienced novice member of my group was able to show the rest of us how to reload our guns and flip the safety on and off. No one from Center Mass ever came to check on us to see if we were doing ok or if we were obeying the rules stated on the waiver. In closing, I have one word that accurately describes my feeling on my total experience at Center Mass: Really? Your company puts up a deal on Living Social which includes shooting .22 ammo and you don't have any in stock? Really? We tell you that we are all beginners and you provide no instruction, no rules and just bank on the fact that we all carefully read the waiver? I am glad that I got this over with and that I never have to call this place or go there ever again. I did enjoy the experience of shooting, but found the lack of customer service to be inexcusable. read more

I went to Center Mass Inc. with my friends on the Black Friday evening. It was quite late in the evening (close to 8pm) and none of us had any experience in firing, but still the staff were very patient and helpful. We actually ended up coming here because the other places we called up were either about to close or had no instructors. Since we did not have a reservation for a private instruction / lesson, the staff guy (I am sure he is a retired Army man) suggested us what handgun to rent and gave us some of the cheapest options. He walked us into the range and briefed us the safety instructions and how to load, hold, see and fire. Very basic stuff, but it was very helpful. We took two lanes for half an hour and two handguns, one was a basic M&P 22. I forgot what the other one was, but it was quite similar. We initially bought two boxes of Ammo (they were $3.99 each). We got the hang of it, bought 4 more boxes of Ammo and extended the time by another half an hour and progressed quite well. It was so much fun. Overall, CMI is a small but great place for firing; the rentals and ammo are reasonably priced; and the staff is quite experienced and very friendly. I would definitely return to this place, and try other advanced guns and rifles. read more

First time customer. Eight people ahead of me for the range. It look to be groups of 2-3 people. I waited 40 minutes to get to the counter ! Only to be told to me and the three guys ahead of me that we need to fill out waivers. Something that could be announced while we wait for 40 minutes. Then to say theres no Lanes open either. How about making some announcements ?? I literally waited longer than I would of used a lane for. Ridiculous ! Way to slow service. I walked out probably to never return. If you are wanting to do a FFL transfer go someplace else, unless you are retired, lonely, and have nothing better to do than stand around. I had to make 4 trips to CM to get the process started wi an out of state FFL transferee. Then when they do call and tell you it's ready to pickup, figure on it takin 2+ hours before you leave with your gun. read more

One of the better gun ranges around. It's clean, bright, well maintained and functional, and, perhaps most importantly, not creepy. Staff are pros, whether on the sales side or the instructional side. They do sell a number of handguns-- not an extensive selection but definitely ample. I came to class today about the AR done by Ned Christiansen and wow!!! Great facility, Jeff the owner came by several times, the instructor was amazing. This class was a real value. Please offer more of these classes!!!!! We got a ton of things from Ned and Jeff. It felt like I made money going to this class. I learned a ton and I built an AR from scratch. The instructor was very funny and highly knowledgable. I enjoyed being in a class with new B's to police officers to gunsmiths. This course is a must have!!! read more

By far my favorite range, went to check them out before I even had purchased my first gun and CPL class and was greeted with " normal" friendly staff, other ranges in the area did not want to give me the time of day. I shoot there now on a regular basis, they offer punch cards, every 6th visit is free and they also give senior discounts along with ladies day (mondays) who shoot for free with paid range time and (tuesdays) are 2 for 1. Center Mass is fantastic. I was in for some range time over the weekend with a friend of mine. About halfway through my first magazine, the front sight popped off my firearm. Tool-less and bewildered, I asked the gentlemen at the front desk for some help. He immediately hopped up and offered to take a look. After we determined what had happened, he worked with the other employee behind the counter to find the right tool, and reattach the sight. Since we used some Loctite, I would've been unable to continue shooting until things had a chance to "set". Before I even asked, the staff offered to let my firearm dry behind the counter while I finished up my range time with a rental firearm free of charge (the same model as mine). In short, the staff at Center Mass is kind, courteous, and understanding! I will absolutely continue to give this place my business! read more

The lanes I was in were a little cramped. When you share a lane with someone its nice to be able to step back while the other person shoots and reload your mags. A shelf along the back wall would go a long way to accomplish this. read more

Have been to my fair of shooting ranges. Even out of town and out of state. Theirs one thing I look for when I go somewhere and it's that "wow" factor or something different. Even though center mass may not be the state of the art high tech place to shoot, it does have a nice rewards program to keep you coming back and an electronic database to keep record of your time and shooting there. Rented out a G22 Gen4. Ammo was more expensive than the rental. Also went on my birthday and got a free half hour range time which either way comes with one free target. Prices are good. For a Sunday afternoon it was still understaffed. Rated 3 stars for your average place. Even with the rewards program and understaffed rental desk. At least you get your "bang for the buck" lol. read more
