I've been eating here for probably almost 10 or so years. The quality has went down over the years but it's still my go to spot for sushi. Their portions are bigger than other places. I always get anything with unagi sauce and salmon. My usual is Golden Gate which has salmon, eel, and friend tempura shrimp. They have limited seating so I recommend coming early or ordering take out. read more

I have been going to Cha Cha Sushi since we moved here over a decade ago. Place is always bustling with a line of people waiting outside. Food is fresh and large portioned. Known for their excellent rolls! Very crowded inside and loud. Acoustics could be better. Cafeteria style seating. My favorite appetizer is Hiyayakko (cold tofu with ponzu sauce). The restaurant is Very small. the wait is crazy. The sushi is good but not worth the wait.

This is still one of the most recommended sushi restaurants among my friends in San Jose and it still doesn't disappoint. I like how there's a picture of every sushi roll so it's easier to order instead of finding pictures on Yelp! It still gets busy on the weekdays and the longest I've waited at Chacha's was at least 30 minutes, which isn't that bad. The long wait is because how compact the restaurant is and hopefully they move to a bigger and better location! Our food all came out within 15 minutes and the beer is so good with their cold glass cups. Overall, I would come back every week, but it's so far from home. Also, the sushi is great for what you pay for. The sushi rolls I recommend are 49er, Lion King, Salmon Lovers, and Jordan. The only things that need improvement is the interior of the restaurant. Everything still looked the same back when I came here as a kid. What I love about this place is their different influences and styles of their sushi rolls and the names of it! read more

I've been going to Cha Cha for the past 10+ years (back when they used to give complimentary spicy green mussels) and it has always been a go-to sushi spot for me and many others in San Jose. My go-to rolls: -Brandon's roll: 8/10, I love the amount of fish that you get with the Brandon's roll which makes it well worth it for the price. It is also very flavorful which makes it not tiring to eat. -Hamachi lovers: 7.5/10, I LOVE hamachi so this roll was right down my alley! I love how the hamachi inside the roll is spicy, the flavors are light but that makes it a very refreshing roll and allows you to enjoy the fish itself. -Lion king: 8/10, I don't get baked rolls often anymore but I'd say that Cha Cha has the best lion king roll out there! -Red dragon: 7/10, this is a classic red dragon roll although it is not my favorite as I've had more flavorful ones. The service here is fast and the food comes out before you can even blink, which I very much appreciate. Once you are seated, you can be in and out of there in less than 30 minutes! My only complaint is that the fish quality seems to have gone down in the past recent years. I still order my go-to rolls but they just don't hit the same as before. We've been going here for many years and usually order by phone for pickup. They do get really busy, so it's good to allow about 20-30 minutes if you have a larger order. Here are things we recommend: Lion King roll, King Kong roll (this roll is ginormous), cherry blossom roll, and we usually get there bento boxes. Coming from OC to SJ, I appreciated their interesting take on spicy mayo. They incorporated wasabi mayo drizzled on their sushi. Another thing to note, there was a small fly on a dish but they took back the plate, VOIDED the charge AND gave us another plate of sushi. I was not expecting the reimbursement on top of the order being remade. 10/10 service and appreciation to all the workers and staff. You'll be pleased coming here! I tried calling at 8:40 pm Friday night no answer. I called couple times after and no answer. It's only 5 min away for me so I drive down there at 9:50, it's 40% full and they refuse to take any additional orders. All the sushi chefs glance over then just put their heads down. This place was very good! The fish quality and variety of rolls on the menu was very good. Sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef was very friendly and prepared my food fairly quick. Heard good things about this place so I can to check it out with my friend. I ordered the Philadelphia roll, Spider roll, and Unagi roll. My friend got the lunch special with 3 items (tempura roll, chicken katsu, and i forget the last one ). Honest review: The Philadelphia roll and the spider roll were just meh, but the Unagi roll was 10/10 amazing! The wait at this place is usually really bad but we went early at around 5pm on a Wednesday. Last seating is at 8:30pm. But for our visit, no wait and quick to get a table! We ordered 4 rolls for 4 people. Warriors, Splash Brothers, Sparky and Titanic. The Sparky roll is gigantic and not meaning length where you get more rolls, but the size of each piece is huge, just as it says. Perhaps a little too large. I'll say they were all ok and that's about it. I was not as pleased as I was the first time we went here, which was a few years ago. It's getting crazy that rolls are approaching $20 each!! Service was good, the food was just ok. Everything tastes great dipped in Sriracha, soy and wasabi. The food is awesome! It's at a reasonable price point, about 15ish per plate of rolls, but they are pretty giant portions! If you're a big eater, maybe 2 orders for a meal. The inside is a tad bit crowded but not too loud, but they accommodate the best they can! On weekends, it's dinner price all day, so if you're planning on eating some lunch item, keep that in mind. Overall, a chill and affordable sushi place to eat at with a small group of people! A definite go to for my group of buddies. We have gotten take out from here countless of times, and in between make the mistake of trying some other places, and always end up coming back here. I tend to judge a place by its California roll since I always get one wherever I go- and Cha Cha makes the most perfect one- with a perfectly creamy and soft crab filling. We've tried so many of their specialty rolls and never had one that wasn't amazing. The place is pretty small and similar and often has a long wait for dinner, so we've only ever gotten take out even pre-covid. I live super close to Cha Cha Sushi and often pick up takeout here for a quick lunch. The lunch specials are pretty reasonably priced, especially in these expensive times, and you get a lot of food. I mostly get their raw fish (hamachi lovers, nigiris of the day) and always enjoy it. I do feel like it's not the BEST sushi or quality I've had, but it's definitely good for the price and location. Really small sushi spot that packs a big impression when it comes to unique rolls. I have been here a few times now and I absolutely loved it. A bit on the pricey side but if you feel like splurging this is definitely the place to go. This time we got the Brandon Roll and the Lion King. Also tried their Tempura Udon for the First time. Brandon Roll- A fish lovers dream. Talking MOUNTAIN HIGH cuts of assorted raw fish on a roll of assorted maki. Delicious and fresh every time. Lion King- it was good but i had just wished for it be a bit creamier with the sauce compared to other places but it was a good balance having a baked roll Tempura Udon- This I was VERY surprised by! Chockfull of vegetables and you even get a couple slices of Narutomaki. The broth was SUPER rich and was not watery at all. The good: I've been going here for over 10 years now. Ever since they first opened there have been lines that form to get a seat here. I came on a weekday at 2PM and it was still crowded. During my most recent visit, I tried the Jordan and Kim's special roll. I liked how the Jordan had edible lemon slices on top that added a nice and refreshing zest to the roll. They have a lot of specialty rolls with pictures in the menu. The rolls are categorized alphabetically and also have icons to help you navigate the menu. The icons include pictures that indicate if the roll has raw fish, is baked, is large (yes, some of their rolls are larger than normal therefore cost around $18) is vegan, is spicy, etc. It's a super nice and easy to use system. We sat at the bar and were served promptly. The prices are very fair and there's something on the menu for everyone. The rolls aren't overly saucy and the rice isn't hard or packed too thickly. The interior isn't too special or interesting in terms of atmosphere or design elements. The bad: They don't have outdoor seating options. The interior is medium/small size so it isn't ideal for larger groups. The interesting: This is my niece's favorite sushi spot. read more

I've been coming here for a solid decade and have never had a bad experience. I love the variety of rolls and freshness of the ingredients. It's a small restaurant, best to go with a small party, and usually has a long wait at dinner time. They started using Yelp waitlist not too long ago, a game changer! I've ordered online for pickup twice since the pandemic started. It's an easy process, though I don't like how the system requires you to log in to your Facebook or Google account, a big privacy risk. Cha Cha has been doing a good job social distancing inside their store and people have tended to be respectful of the line that grows outside the store. I always get my rolls without cucumbers and Cha Cha always gets my order right. I usually order an assortment of rolls. I've tried a couple appetizers and chicken teriyaki, decent but not nearly as good as their sushi. One of my usual rolls is the Wolf Tail, it's huge with 4 tempura shrimp and salmon on top. The fish here is always fresh and flavorful. Some of my other favorite rolls are the X-Men, Double Decker, and Brandon's. Can't really go wrong, just pick your favorite ingredients! read more

My other half and I love to explore sushi restaurants around the East/ South Bay for our month-versary tradition, and in comparison to the numerous other quality options, Cha Cha was just okay, albeit friendly service staff. We ordered 4 rolls -- 49ers, Titanic, Jayden, and Spicy Tuna; overall, fish quality was ok but the rolls felt very "squishy" vs a fresh bite (maybe the way the rice or the crab is made). I felt a lukewarm vibe both on my palate and around me in the dining space (it is a small establishment and a bit on the older side). A great perk is the house hot sake happy hour though! $5 for a large vs $8. It is applicable everyday from opening until 7 pm, so we enjoyed some of that at least :) read more

Kinda pricey considering I can get a poké bowl for lower than this price. Jayden Roll ($13.95) -- shrimp tempura, cream cheese & cucumber topped with crab meat, spicy mayo & tempura flakes. A pretty good roll. Very tasty! Lion King Roll ($15.95) -- California roll topped with salmon, spicy mayo, unagi sauce, tobiko & green onion. MY FAVE!! I love baked rolls. Sushi Pizza ($15.95) -- salmon, tuna, crab, cucumber & cream cheese topped with mozzarella, tobiko, green onion, spicy mayo & unagi sauce. I was immediately curious on this sushi pizza. Two of my favorite food combined. Didn't taste like pizza tho lol. Just cheese on top of a sushi roll. This place has SO many reviews and I was really curious about the hype. Turns out the sushi is quite good, is at a decent price, and is overall just a fun place to eat at. Is it an absolute must when coming to SJ? Probably not, but I can see myself coming here pretty often if I lived closer to SJ. I've come here on two separate occasions (each time in a party of three ordering four rolls). Both times we were absolutely starving when we arrived and left feeling full but not bloated. I would say if you're not super hungry it's about one roll per person; otherwise, aim for a bit more than that. The menu can be kind of overwhelming because there are so many choices but they do a good job of detailing exactly what is in each roll. We opted to order only the specialty rolls: 1. Cherry Blossom 4.25/5 This is a roll with salmon and avocado on the inside and pieces of tuna on the outside. I am a bigger fan of salmon than tuna and wish I had ordered the "Orange Blossom" instead, which is literally the Cherry Blossom roll but with the salmon and tuna switched interior/exterior. This roll tasted a little bit more bland compared to the other ones since there was no sauce on it. 2. Brandon's 4.5/5 This is basically a mixed fish and avocado roll topped with a bunch of poke on top. There's not a lot of flavor in the poke itself but they drizzle some unagi sauce and spicy mayo with it. The ratio of fish to rice is great for this one! 3. Crab Meets Crab 5/5 Fried California roll with spicy crab on top. Absolutely delicious! It had a great crunch and made us wish we had ordered a few more fried rolls the first time we came here. 4. Rainbow Roll 5/5 California roll with a bunch of different types of fish/shrimp on top. Really yummy and it's almost like you have six different rolls to try! 5. King Kong 4/5 I think this roll had a little bit too much wasabi mayo on top of the roll, which made the roll a little bit too creamy for my liking. Still a great roll though with lots of sashimi like tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. There's a nice crunch from a shrimp tempura inside the roll. 6. Marco 4.25/5 This was a fried roll with soft shell crab on the inside and spicy mayo as well as wasabi mayo on top. Again, I think this roll had a bit too much mayo on top of the roll so that it made the roll too creamy for my liking. 7. Golden Gate 5/5 Soft shell crab in a roll with spicy crab. There was a mix of salmon, eel, and avocado slices on top of the roll. I thought this roll was really delicious with a nice crunch from the soft shell crab! It was a lot smaller than the other rolls though. 8. The Rock 4.5/5 Really delicious roll with tuna, salmon, and crab on the interior of the roll. Again, this roll was smaller than some of the others we ordered! Food comes out super fast, although the fried rolls take a bit longer. I personally really enjoyed the fried rolls (I usually don't). Watch out for the wasabi mayo if you don't like wasabi! read more
