Erm...I guess it depends what you're looking for. If you just want some relief for your muscles or want a to-the-point massage and your goal is not to get lost in relaxation, you might be okay here. Otherwise I'd recommend another place that's more focused on targeting specific muscles and with good ambiance. Pros: It's inexpensive, they weren't busy, the place seemed clean, and the staff was friendly. Cons: Unlike many massage places, Cha Spa has a large room with massage tables separated by curtains, so it's private but not really. You can still hear the people next to you, which is kind of awkward and distracting. The massage itself was...interesting. It was a little rough and fast for my liking, and kind of felt like my masseuse was just trying to get it over-with, although she was perfectly nice. You remain clothed for 98% of the massage. They put a towel over your body and massage on top of it, too, which I'm not used to. Amidst the massage they have some sort of weird technique where they slap you around a little bit. Twice. Not really what I think of when I think of relaxation? And it wasn't just my masseuse....I heard it to my right and to my left. We were all surprised by it. Maybe if you go here just ask them to hold the slaps. At the end they tell you you're done and immediately open the curtains and wait for you to go, so there's no time to really let yourself wake up/readjust before you go. Again, not terrible, but not what I would call a relaxing, therapeutic massage. read more

I had a mani-pedi here yesterday--$35! Not bad at all. They are extremely hygienic...no gross sink chairs here. They literally have sinks and cover each one with its own plastic Baggie every time. Nice! The seating is really conducive to conversations, too, because you're not in the chair where you are so far away from your friend. Definitely a great spot for groups of friends to get nails done! read more

Let me start by saying the place is good and the massage by Peter is out of this world yet a little bit odd since he was pretty liberal with his flatulence. Thinking if I would come back for their reflexology services... There are some clear issues with front person as she is a little too disorganized or perhaps overwhelmed. I made an appt for a massage and a gel mani, when I checked in a said I had an appointment she was a bit spaced out, and was trying to do many things at one time. Once my massage was over and I proceeded to go to the front for my manicure and was greeted with a confused look, I was still a bit spaced out but told her what was next for me, then a lady came and said "mani/pedi" ... Nope just gel mani, I didn't pick a color because I wanted to explain I had a design in mind, which apparently they don't do just plain colors- not even a white/black French (no black color). Unfortunate I had to leave because their service was not what I thought it would be. Again, the massage was well worth it but if you want something out of the norm for your nails, then pick the many other places along Montana including my favorite Olive & June! read more

Gel manicure perfectly done! Space is clean and relaxing. Definite plus compared to some nail salons that get super busy and hectic on weekends. Selection of gel polish is relatively small, but they still had the color I was looking for, and other pretty ones I would like to try for next time. Clean spot for a quick mani/pedi. They are very clear in making sure you get exactly what you want to pay for and very attentive to your needs. One downside is there are not individual chairs, just benches which are not extremely relaxing or comfortable to sit in. I also felt a little skimped on the leg massage portion of the pedicure which is something I really look forward to. I also felt the manicure I received was pretty mediocre - I was left with uneven edges as far as the color goes and quite a few hangnails and cuts in my cuticles that were not there before.. read more

Cha Spa is the best Chinese reflexology spa I've ever been to! It's incredibly clean and the masseuses seem like they actually have professional training and know what they're doing. I've been to Cha Spa a handful of times and every masseuse I've had has been very professional and their hands did not smell like cigarettes which unfortunately is very common at other Chinese spas. I would give them 5 stars except that they are always running late so I end up having to wait 15 minutes outside. The price to quality ratio is unbeatable! read more

We called 2 hours in advance to confirm 2 slots for an hour massage. We show up and the male at the front desk had no recollection of speaking with us, nor did he even put our massages in the schedule. Horrible customer service, rude and unprofessional. Have had two solid experiences here. No uv lights to dry but talented technicians and casual nice place. There are not pedicure machines just tubs without jets and no massage chairs. Nice staff albeit quiet. They do 20 percent off before 3 mon - thurs! And prices start out average. read more

The receptionist was polite. And that's about it. There was a woman walking around in heels.. Could she have worn something less noisy? People actually go to school to learn reflexology. My therapist just put oil and went over the skin... who couldn't do that? He had no idea of points and I kept asking him to push harder because he was so gentle as if he was falling asleep on me. The worst ever. I once had a foot massage in the valley owned by some Thai people and that was just as bad. No more. I didn't want to drive to K town but I should have. You either have to go school to learn or just have natural talent for it. OR have 'street smart'. I showed my therapist where to push. Now, you'd think he would do the same on the other foot, . NO.. It would have been better to use one of those chairs at the airport to get a massage. read more

We were spending the day at my brother's house in SM, and since he offered to take the kids to the movies, my wife and I went for a leisurely stroll down Montana Ave. Good that we were walking, because we probably would have missed noticing Cha Spa if we were in the car just driving past it. The place is quite small, but I think they did a nice job of maximizing space usage without it feeling overly cramped. I liked the way the curtains were used to create a single, side-by-side space for us to get our massages. I know that the curtain did not change the fact that there was another patron right next to us getting a massage, but the "appearance" of having a private side-by-side space was a nice change from the open floor plan experience of most of the foot massage parlors in San Gabriel. The other element in our Cha Spa experience that I liked was that the therapists actually asked us what we wanted beforehand, so I didn't have to make my usual mid-massage request to skip the face massage and spend more time on my neck and shoulders. The attentiveness and customer service level seemed to continue through the massage as well. A few minutes into the massage, my wife's therapist asked her how the pressure level was. She told him that she preferred a stronger massage, and he adjusted/increased the pressure several times until it met her approval. Unfortunately, while I was also asked about the pressure level, my therapist made only a very slight adjustment to what was a weak massage, and did not bother to ask if further adjustment was needed. I let it go, hoping that she would do a lot better with the foot reflexology portion of the massage. Transferring higher expectation to the foot portion of the massage only resulted in a higher level of disappointment. Instead of skilled and effective foot reflexology, what I essentially experienced was lotion being repeatedly rubbed into my feet and calves. There was probably an attempt at foot reflexology, but the pressure level was so light and ineffective that I really couldn't call it foot reflexology at all. I guess a lot of people may find this gentle, rhythmic rubbing soothing and relaxing, but it's not the type of therapeutic Chinese foot massage I've come to expect. By this point, I was frustrated and feeling that I was wasting time that could be better spent outside strolling along Montana Ave., so when we switched to the back massage and the weak massage that my session started with resumed, I quickly asked for a stronger massage. When only the same slight adjustment in pressure was made, I interrupted and asked if the massage to be harder. I'm not sure if my therapist didn't understand me or thought I was joking, but the response was a laugh and continuation with the same pressure level. I was disappointed by the massage I received, but I'm willing to chalk it up to a difference between the soothing experience I assumed my therapist was trying to provide versus my personal preference for a deep and healing type of massage. My wife's massage experience ended up being fairly satisfying for her. She also prefers a strong massage, and was happy with the neck/shoulder and back portions of her massage. She felt that the foot portion of the massage could be better - she thought that the quality of the foot reflexology she received was adequate, but was not as intense or detailed as she prefers. If we get a chance to go to Cha Spa again the next time we spend the day with my brother, I'm 50/50 on whether I'd give it another try. A lot of people seem to really like the massages here, so unless we stumble upon another Chinese foot massage parlor in the area that catches our attention, I'm inclined to give it another shot. If we do go back, however, I would ask for a male therapist (which is what I do when we get foot massages in San Gabriel) so I have a better chance of getting the deeper level of pressure that I need. read more

I bought a voucher for my friend to go to the spa for her birthday and she was very well looked after buy the owner and the staff. Over and above that I just want to mention that the service I received as the paying customer was excellent. I booked the session from New Zealand and they ensured that everything was taken care of, going above and behind to assist me in making sure she got her birthday gift. The management were very customer focussed and their customer service was exemplary - something I have found as a norm to be sadly lacking in today's world. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately my experience was terrible. My therapist was sick (although I didn't know this until it was too late) and they were sneezing and coughing on me. I ended up having a horrible cold for two weeks after. The massage wasn't even good... it was inconsistent at best. I wish I could get those two weeks... and my money back. :((( read more

This place is not a real massage place. It is separated by curtains and the therapists are not qualified in my opinion. You can often hear the other people snoring as there are no rooms. The therapist I got yesterday had a cold and it was so gross. No hygiene. Also used his elbows mainly and started farting. Truly disgusting. It's just a run down and today my back hurts more than it ever did. You pay for what you get. Pay a little more and get an actual massage somewhere else. Still disgusted by my experience. I never asked for a discount. The owner is repeatedly very rude to customers who write the truth on yelp. Look at all her responses. Very unprofessional. Go for your self and you will see how the place runs. I don't need to prove anything. read more

I've been to a lot of chinese spas, including ones in China. I think the Cha Spa on Montana is one of the best I've been to. I now go every week for what's called a foot massage (90min). Actually, it's a really nice head, neck and arm (20min), foot (20min) and back (20min) massage, which pretty much is a full body massage. Paul and Bill are my favorites. They are both deep massagers, but careful not to go too far. I love the atmosphere and music, very relaxing and for me necessary for a balanced week. I bring all my friends here and they love it, too. read more

My mom and I went back, this time to the Santa Monica location, courtesy of the manager. We got the foot massages again. They were about what I'd expect for a $20-25 massage (a bit underwhelming for the listed price of $45). The place was clean and I appreciated the privacy of curtained-off massage tables. The massage itself was decent but I wouldn't go back for it at this price. When we arrived at our appointment time there was nobody at the front desk to greet us. My mom had to walk into the treatment area to find someone. On the plus side, we were taken in immediately. The treatment area was pretty good for places of this caliber-- a long row of curtained off private massage tables. My mom and I both had male masseurs. My mom described her massage as okay. Mine was also okay. I wanted to like it more so I could give a glowing review because I thought it was very good service that they offered to right a bad experience with a free massage. My masseur didn't really communicate with me in the beginning of the massage (ask me if the pressure was good), and during the course of the hour I had to ask him to ease up a couple of times. He was responsive, but I think he could have been a little more solicitous. I got up from the massage table feeling a little muscle soreness, the kind you get after your muscles have been worked, in a good way, but it wasn't especially relaxed and I didn't feel that the technique was particularly refined. Afterward he offered me a couple small bottles of water and hard candy from a bowl, which was a nice touch. Tea would have been nice. I think there was a pot of tea in the front room, but I'm not sure-- no one offered it to us. read more

Had an amazing experience over at Cha-Spa. I've been recommended to many nail salons in LA but none have compared to their service. I've narrowed down my experience to the top 5 reasons why you should go to cha spa. 1. Tea and/or water with your service. Ok I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, but imagine walking in after a long morning, day, week, month and being greeted by a smile and a refreshment. It makes a difference ! 2. Diana (the owner) has an amazing sense of what it means to run a spa. She's welcoming, attentive, and proactive. Her technicians and therapist all are ready to serve. 3. My pedicure lasted about an hour. That means my nail tech Cindy took her time and cleaned my toes to perfection. 4. The quality of products. You smell it in the air, you see it in the results. 5. The massage option in the back! What!!! You mean I can start my pedicure, go for a leg massage in the back for 30 mins, come out refreshed and get my toes painted & out the door. Yea ! I'm coming back. You're paying for quality here and it's not even priced in their favor. It's a steal for any client! Thanks cha spa. I'm a new regular !! read more

I will not ever come back to this place. The only friendly person is the receptionist, besides that the nail ladies rushed though our service and cut 2 people in our group.
